I have been a customer here for many years, and a highly satisfied one. Recently I had an issue that I wanted to resolve. I tried a variety of communications methods: emails (multiple), phone calls (multiple, all dealing with a nearly impossible-to-navigate AI answering service), and Facebook Messages from their Facebook account. None have been answered, and it's been a month. It is incredibly frustrating to be ignored after over a decade of customer loyalty. My impression now is that this is a great place for eye exams but not for doing any other sort of business. read more

I received my annual eye exam at West County Optometry, and my experience was extremely disappointing. The first issue occurred when I was billed for a test that I never received. Although the office eventually refunded the charge, no apology was offered. After the exam, I used the prescription provided by West County Optometry to order two pairs of glasses from another optical provider: progressive sunglasses and protective sports glasses for pickleball and biking. I went elsewhere because West County Optometry did not carry the protective eyewear I needed. When I picked up my glasses, the optical provider discovered that the prescription from West County Optometry contained a significant error. The optometrist had entered the wrong sign on the prescription, making both pairs of lenses unusable. As a result, the lenses had to be remade at a cost of $558. Because this mistake caused me to lose confidence in the accuracy of the original exam, I paid for a second eye exam with the optometrist at the optical provider. That exam cost an additional $95. Despite the prescription error, West County Optometry has refused to reimburse me for the expenses I incurred as a direct result of their mistake. What concerned me even more was a manager's statement that it is "not uncommon" for an eye exam prescription to be incorrect. I am now pursuing reimbursement through small claims court. Based on my experience, I would not recommend West County Optometry. read more

Lady who answer the phone has no customer service ethics, i tried to book an appointment and even spell all my information so it would be easy for her to understand when i am trying to explain the problem she yell on the phone and became aggressive. I end up cancelling and don't want to get service in this facility. First impression matters , that lady need a phone etiquette and get a course for customer service esp if she answer the phone. Overall everything can improve here. I went in for a routine checkup and I seen a rather new doctor which was pretty amazing. After receiving my exam I was prescribed a prescription. Waited about 5 weeks to receive my prescription only to find out that the prescription was not correct. My glasses were sent back for corrections only to find out for the second time my prescription wasn't correct again! My glasses was sent in for the third time only to find out that the third time the glasses prescription wasn't correct for the third time. At this point I'm frustrated and I need to get out of this place because somebody doesn't know what they're doing clearly so when I called my insurance company they told me to find a different to find a different eye doctor and they will reimburse me so that's what I did and I have finally found a amazing eye doctor that gave me the right prescription the first time. I will not ever return back to this location because clearly someone doesn't know what they're doing. read more

I have been going to west county optometry for over 15 years and have never had any problems until now when they changed owners. The front staff is unwelcoming and basically unfriendly. I have left several messages and they do not either check their messages or they just don't return calls. I tried calling during business hours and they they still don't answers. This will be my last year going there. The only best people left there are the two fantastic guys who sells the glasses. Carla, no I will not be calling again! If the front desk is not capable and listen to my 3 messages detailing what I am requesting than there is no reason to call and a yelp review should not prompt them to do their job. The customer service is terrible. I don't think I will return. I stopped by to ask for a copy of my eyeglass prescription, and they told me I could just log in online to download it. However, there is absolutely nowhere on the website that allows you to do this. When you call them to request a copy of your prescription, the automated message tells you to "simply stop by the office." At my last appointment, I told them I wanted to order a full year's supply of contacts, and when I came to pick up I discovered they only ordered me 1 box of contacts for each eye. I had to put in a totally separate order to get an entire year's supply. There's just zero attention or care given during the multiple times I came into the office. read more

I have been coming to this optometry practice for a couple years now and have always had a positive experience here. The doctors here have addressed my concerns regarding my vision and eye care and the staff have all been very helpful. Check-in: The check-in process has been a good one for me, time and time again. The receptionist in the front (especially the older lady) is very nice and friendly. Their customer service is great. Sean: who works in the glasses section is so warm and welcoming. He adds so much positivity to this establishment and is such a gift to the customers. Making them feel comfortable as they choose their glasses and the style that best suits them. Doctors: I believe there are about 2 or 3 doctors here, I am not 100% sure. My parents see a different doctor than I do and they really like the one that they see. I always see different Optometrists because their schedules are so busy and I just book the soonest appointment available but I do like the optometrist that I have seen here. Bought glasses here and paint off of D&G frames are chipping. Called and talked to Kevin, took forever to deal with on the phone. He first told me it's based off of time, I told him can you check how long it's been because I don't mind driving in from far, but I don't want to waste my time if I'm not eligible (as far as time). When I first moved down to the area, I was still driving all the way back to San Mateo, to my old optometrist, to get my annual checkup. I decided this year that it was silly of me to continue doing so, therefore finally hopped onto Yelp to find a good optometrist nearby. I saw that West County Optometry had pretty good reviews, and was not too far of a drive from me, so I decided to give them a try. Their website was down (and still apparently is now) when I checked, so I had to call in to make my appointment. After taking my information and booking my appointment, I received text reminders shortly before the day of, reminding me of the appointment and confirming if I was still going. The check-in process was pretty smooth, as they handed me some forms to fill out, while I waited in the back for the optometrist. While the office itself is definitely older, they have quite a few sophisticated machines to perform a variety of exams necessary for your appointment. The optometrist was pretty friendly, and the entire exam didn't require too much waiting at all. At the front of the store, the salesperson helping me select out new frames was very friendly and patient. And was always willing to take out any frames I wanted to try on or take a closer look at. The entire experience was very casual, and I did not feel rushed or pressured to make a decision. I'm glad I found a new optometrist, and look forward to coming back here for my annual checkups well into the foreseeable future! read more

Sorry to be writing this. Been going here for a few years. I received multiple texts from West County Optometry telling me it was time for my eye exam and I assumed, like the last two years, that it meant my insurance coverage was in effect for this. So blame it on trust, I made an appointment,went down, had the eye exam, faced a long wait for frames, and since I needed to get back to work I told them I'd return for the frames. That was a 3 hour day with them with all of the waiting. Returned, (30 minute drive) checked in, and the receptionist, thanking her so much, advised me I was not covered for frames for another year! Average frame cost is $275 so I told her I was leaving. Once home, realized I'd spent 4 hours, they got an insurance payment for an eye exam, and I got absolutely nothing while losing 4 hours of the week, 2 of them driving. Feel a bit burned. Im writing this while sitting in the office waiting for my long awaited eyeglasses. My eye appt was March 26th I am just now picking up my glasses April 24! The appt for the exam was cool and faster than usual since I usually go to an Ophthalmology clinic. I have never waited longer than about two weeks for an eyeglass RX. The rating is based on the lack of service. It is not a rating of the Optometrists. I did an eye exam at El Cerrito Optometry a few weeks before they closed. Then I received a letter in the mail saying that all patient files were transferred to West County Optometry. I called this office so many times to try to get a copy of my prescription. They only answered once and the person who answered told me that another person is responsible for the transferred files and they are not available at the moment and that I should call again later. I tried several times later and no one answered. I tried calling again a few months later (when I actually ran out of contact lenses and needed the prescription and no one answered). I couldn't order contacts through my insurance all year because of this. My expectations: 1- I shouldn't have to call multiple times just to get a hold of someone. 2- The person who answered the phone that one time should have taken down my name and my contact information and offered to call me back when they have the information I needed or once that person responsible became available. read more

They without informing me ordered "replacement frames" without my permission or approval. Three months later I still don't have my new frames with my new lens prescription. Despite regular calls for a response to a serious need this company refused to call back for days. When they called back, they took no responsibility for the prescription given by our previous optometrist whose practice they had purchased. They literally told us that they were not interested in helping us with our medical needs. If you have absolutely any other options for an optometrist, I highly recommend choosing someone else. I have never been to a crappier office. Dr. Keswani was just rude. Super offstandish. Which is fine, not everyone is a ray of sunshine. Or maybe he was having an off day. Then he started telling me I could ONLY get contact lenses here. Like I have no choice of receiving a copy of my prescription unless I bought contacts here from his office. VERY MUCH A RED FLAG! My teen son had got a contact lens fitting and I have VSP. This costs me $130.00. Ive never in my entire life of myself wearing contacts for 20 years have been charged this much. The man who helped with the contact lens trying - he was amazing. I forgot his name. He was the ONLY helpful and friendly person in this place. LOL. Everyone in the front office is also rude. What a surprise! I actually never even came back to have my son continue with contact lens trying. He struggled and I opted to find a diff office bc this place seems like a money grab. If I'm going to spend money, at least smile at me. LOL. I have since found an office locally that's AMAZING! Thank goodness. I've scheduled online appointment for an eye exam on 12/12/24 and completed the online form before appointment. When I walked into the store today, the receptions took care and I provided all the information so everything is confirmed. They even took me in the doctor's office and told me wait for the doctor comes. However, the office manager lady came to me in surprise and said I was not on the appointment list, with horrible attitude! She kept mentioning the appointment spot I booked was actually for someone else, the appointment I booked online was not valid! I was shocked and my boyfriend suggested they should upgrade their website to avoid this kind of confusion. The office manager lady said it's not their fault and throwing the ball to their marketing team! She told me I should received a call from them earlier today for cancellation. But I NEVER received it. This is ridiculous, I even put aside my entire schedule today to make that appointment. All I got today was super rude attitude from that lady, not even an apology. Don't go here. If I could leave 0 stars I would. It has taken 3 months to try to get a contact lens prescription from here and has been the most frustrating experience. I still do not have my prescription because of their archaic process. Plus it seems they have a poor supplier for trials (it takes weeks to get new trials when the doctor tries to update the prescription). And it's not just me- my partner had almost the same experience. Please go somewhere else. Biggest waste of time. (Also, the doctors here are deep man-splainers- you will spend 30 minutes waiting for your appointment to start and another 30 with them lecturing you). Don't go here. read more

There is nobody at West County Optometry answering the phone, in a timely way. I had an urgent question which nobody responded to for over a week, and then the person who did was.... just so rude and delighted in making the process longer. Then... it turned out she had "decided not to call me back about an error in my perscription. " So when you see this thread of Jolene asking you to call in, to make things right, please know that none of us can even get through to a person at the other end, and that there is at least one person on the other end who sometimes decides not to answer calls at all. I've been a longtime patient of Dr. Keswani's and West County Optometry. Dr. Keswani is friendly and professional and the staff are also always welcoming and nice. Most of the staff have been there for years which I think speaks highly of how Dr. Keswani and the other optometrists run the practice. They have a great selection of eyewear and often have great sales and discounts. They've replaced the nose pads on my glasses and adjusted the fit for free - weeks after I had initially bought them. My glasses/contacts orders almost always come quicker than expected. Great location - walkable to Bart and free parking. I highly recommend them! read more

I have been going to West County Optometry on and off for the past twelve years, depending on if I had vision care provided by VSP, and I have never been disappointed with their professionalism and overall service. For this adventure, I returned after a six year absence, and making an appointment was super easy and fast. I had to login into VSP's website to make sure that they took my insurance at West County Optometry and they were taking new clients, which thankfully, most optometrists do, and sure enough they were. Then a phone call later, it was an easy appointment to make, in fact all they had to do was ask my name, and they knew my history and they automatically knew my new employer. How's that for efficient? Upon entry, they greet you immediately. The wait was not too interminable as they have you fill out their regular forms in their doctor's waiting area. They run the gamut of tests at West County Optometry, especially useful if you haven't been in a while, to ensure you are disease free and your eyes and surrounding areas are healthy, some of which is not covered by insurance and will require an additional cost. That takes about fifteen to twenty minutes, and then in a flash you are meeting with your certified optometrist. Dr. Keswani saw me for the first time in years and his professionalism knows no bounds. He was quick and easy going, nothing to stressful or intense, since I have seen him many times. Luckily this time, I didn't need any upgrades in prescription so I could not only stay with the same glasses I had, but with insurance I could order an additional pair. You return to their frames department and look through your options, of which there are plenty. If you don't want to spend too much additional money on your glasses, my best advice is to ask the eye care specialist who is assisting you to bring out everything that insurance will cover the costs. I did just that, and they gave me five frame options and I picked form that group. There was no pressure at all to get anything outside my plan. And Dr. Keswani was nice enough to give me my glasses prescription on paper, but an additional contact lens prescription on paper, so I could take it to an outside vendor to reduce costs because contacts can be so expensive. After two weeks, they called to tell me my glasses were in and I was ready to pick them up on a Friday afternoon. They adjusted the nosepads in no time, and even replaced the old nosepads on my older glasses when they saw they were dirty and they knew you can't clean them anymore at no additional cost. West County is so convenient and filled with so many long serving employees that you know they must be doing something right after all these years being in the Del Norte Marketplace right next to BART. They've become an El Cerrito institution you might even say! read more

Pretty much the only optometry I go to. I love this place and they always are very attentive with me. The staff are always willing to look up any product I want to see if they carry it and if they don't, they will take the time to look up different options for me. They also let you order multiple frames without trying them and buying to see if you like them when they come in. Very content with their service. read more

Highly recommend West County Optometry mainly based on how excellent the staff is. My friend and I came in to have one of her eyeglass nose pads replaced. What surprised us was how quickly the staff handled the replacement but went above and beyond what was needed. They replaced my friend's nose pad and the other one to match, cleaned the glasses, retightened the frame joint, and even threw in a microfiber wipe. My friend and I were so surprised at how promptly they resolved the issue and performed all the extra services without us asking. Just by this incident alone tells me that West County Optometry will go the extra mile to ensure that their customers are taken care of. read more
