This review is specifically to highlight how helpful Marcie was. I was trying to figure out a solution for getting my contact prescription from the Lakewood Costco, and the whole process was incredibly frustrating. Apparently they don't accept digital copies of prescriptions, and they also don't have your prescription on file between locations. Costco Optical might genuinely be one of the most frustrating technology experiences I've dealt with. Thankfully, Marcie took the time to actually help me figure out a solution. Norwalk happens to be closer to me anyway, and she made what had been a frustrating situation much easier. I really appreciate when someone is genuinely helpful and actually tries to solve the customer's problem instead of just saying, "Sorry, we can't do that." Thank you, Marcie. You did a great job and I really appreciate your help. I can finally have contacts to drive home at night. read more

I went Costco Lakewood, CA to purchase 2 pairs of glasses - clear for in the house & sunglasses for the car. The salesperson recommended transition lenses for the car, so I could go from sun to indoors, such as going into the store. She showed me a demonstration pair, which changed from clear to sunglasses. When I got them, I wore them into Home Depot, but they never changed to clear, only staying as sunglasses. I took them back to Costco, where they said it was probably too bright in Home Depot to change. After continued problems, I took them back today, where they told me they were only intended for driving and going from lighter sunglasses to a darker sunglasses. This is definitely not what I was told or shown. I spent substantially extra for these, for no reason. read more

I needed adjustments on 3 glasses which I thought would be annoying for the coworkers but Gerald was knowledgeable and very helpful to my needs and on hearing me out about each pair. I really appreciate his attention to detail and ensuring I left with each pair fitting comfortably. They also have a new check in system that is easy to work and get in line for help on a busy day. read more

The best prices on glasses. This is a place to go to get frames, progressive, blue light, transition tinted glasses at the lowest price. Plus you'll get them within a week. You will save at least $250 going here rather than an eyeglass doctor. I thought I would save with Kaiser insurance. The glasses at Kaiser were $590 versus $220 for the same exact thing at Costco. read more

I am very impressed with Lamecca at the Norwalk Costco optometrist site. She has taken care of me and my daughter many times. She is very polite, professional and super fast with the customer service and calling our number out rapidly. She is always paying attention and I always feel very well taken care of by her excellent customer service and smile. She is super friendly, helpful and always had the info immediately that we needed for out orders. We really appreciate Lamecca, thank you for making us feel important. read more

Just wanted to to share my experience at Costco Optometry in Norwalk. Went in for an eye exam and new prescription. I was seen right away. Everything went smooth. Staff was courteous and friendly. When it was time to choose my frame, I approached Lamecca and she was eager to help choose the right lens for me. She just striked me as a Woman with good taste and felt comfortable and she was very knowledgeable as to which frame would suit me best. We had settled on a particular frame, but as we were proceeding with the paperwork, she stopped and wanted to find me a different pair and oh boy, I'm so happy she did. They were even better than the one's I had previously chosen and decided on those! I was so happy. Not to mention, my current pair of glasses, I was always adjusting them because they didn't sit right on my face. I couldn't stand it! Major pet peeve. She immediately noticed that they needed adjustment! OMG... day and night difference! Now, I can wear them without fiddling with them. Bottom line. She made my day! Thank you! read more

Seen 430pm 10/25/22. For some reason the staff up front performed the "air puff" test repeatedly on my right eye (she puffed my eye 6-8 times)! I've had the test in the past, one puff of air seemed to suffice. Anyways got home at 6pm w sore feeling bruised right eye. By 8pm I had a lump in lower lid close to tear duct. See photo. Additionally, when trying to contact the same staff, they don't answer their phone and didn't return my call. Going to urgent care today and taking my receipt to this office staff to pay. Their lack on knowledge and or cleanliness causes this. I have never in my life ever had this issue. If you have insurance and can go anywhere else. Don't go here. Especially don't get the glaucoma puff air test here the staff up front who performs pre work is inept. read more

The worst!!!! They didn't want to fill our prescription with our frames, that we bought from them a year ago because they said we need to buy new ones from them! This is ridiculous. The girl was extremely rude. read more

De Pearl does great work here. I've been to other optometrist and they usually mess up my prescription but he knows what he's doing.

Came last year b4 covid became a pandemic and didn't come back till now afraid of the virus and now that numbers are low I decide to come and get contacts and the prescription was for a year only which sucks because most of the time they were closed, the prescription should overlap another year because we were in quarantine and its really unfair for the consumer when they just steal ur money and not take in consideration the pandemic this whole world was and is experiencing, mayb with this review they will reconsider and I can get my contacts, sucks hiw they just shine u away when ur not offering them money smh read more

I like that I can count on them to give me a yearly updated eye prescription, nothing more nothing less. I've never had a problem with insurance and they don't ever try to pull money out of me by having me get eye tests that I probably don't need. The eye doctors rotate. I've had different eye doctors examine my eyes for my yearly checkup but they're all nice anyways. Waiting times range from 5 minutes to 30 minutes which isn't too bad. read more

This was a first-time visit, so I initially spent about 10 minutes filling out the usual paperwork you get with any medical provider. Afterwards, one of the doctor's assistants sat me down at each of the three instruments that a) measure your corrective vision prescription, b) scan the eyeball interior, and c) take a detailed photo of the interior of the eyeball. Shortly thereafter, I was shown into the examination room, where I met Dr. Tyler McDowell O.D., a third-generation optometrist. Dr. McDowell performed some additional tests and examinations using more traditional equipment, then spent approximately 20-30 minutes providing an in-depth explanation of the results, reviewing the individual eye scans, and going over each photograph of the eyeball interior - it was as fascinating as it was informative. Afterwards, he performed a visual acuity test using the pre-determined corrective optical prescription, adjusting it ever so slightly for optimal vision. Having competed all of the testing and having accurately determined the optical correction I required, Dr. McDowell then asked me how I would like to proceed with regard to prescription eyeglasses. We discussed the type of work I do, my reading habits, etc. and in the end, he provided me with two prescriptions, for 1) custom reading glasses that also correct for astigmatism, and 2) a general-purpose pair of eyeglasses with progressive lenses. I had Lasik surgery performed 12 months earlier, so the required adjustments were minimal and I could actually see 20/20 with no correction whatsoever. Dr. McDowell also discussed with me the possibility of follow-up Lasik surgery to fine-tune the original procedure as this is something that is already covered as part of the Lasik surgery I had performed at NVision in Fullerton, California. Having completed my exam and received my prescription, I paid a quite-reasonable $79 exam fee and stepped outside the office into Costco's Optician operation, where I could purchase the eyeglasses in my choice from many, many frames available. I should note that the sale of eyeglasses is through Costco, which is NOT affiliated with the doctor's independent practice; i.e., the optometrist derives no economical incentive to sell either eyeglasses or contact lenses. This is perhaps the single largest discriminator between Costco's independent contractor approach and virtually every other optometrist/optician I had ever before visited - Dr. McDowell was fully vested in the best interests of the patient... not the sale of eyeglasses. read more

Costco Optical - Utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to scan for potential problems and derive an accurate optical prescription. Quick, effective - Eyewear & Opticians Near Me - Norwalk, California

I went for an eye examination this June, and the Dr. Au was very kind, professional, and through. However, the Costco eyeglasses manufacturing was not good at all. Even with the correct prescription, the glasses came out wrongly made. I could not see clearly, the lights looked double, and I had to look almost through the top of the glasses to see clearly at a distance. Dr. Au rechecked my prescription and it was correct, so I had them remade, but they still came wrongly made. The images still were blurry at a distance and looked double at night, especially the lights. To their credit, Costco Optical did refund my money. I took my prescription to Kaiser, where the Zeiss GT2 eyeglasses are available. These glasses took 3 weeks to make but what a difference! These glasses are worth the almost 500 dollars I paid for them. The vision is absolutely clear and the quality is superb. No more double images, no more blurry vision. Zeiss is indeed pricey but the vision quality is superb-the best eyeglasses I have ever had. read more

It's an hour after my scheduled appointment and I am still waiting. I would not recommend this optical center.

I gave this office 1 star because the doctors are very nice and friendly but their staff are opposite, rude! Dr Greg has another office inside costco Lakewood and they are nicer than these front staff. First, they are young about btw 20-30 but they are rude and unfriendly, look tired or being force to work. They did not even say Hi or look at the customers. Dr, please check their eyes because they don't even wanna make eye contact with their customers, even when they apologize. They may have a special certificate to work in a doctor office, but it is still considered as service. So, please work on their attitude!!!Hello, customers are bringing money to the office. Front staffs are also important to keep customers coming back besides a good doctor. Second, this office expects customers to commit to the appointment but they do not respect our appointments and our time. Hello, time is money. This office sent 3 different messages asking me to confirm my appointment and i responded to all. They told me it just took 10-20mins wait time for non appointment customers. I had an appointment, and it took me 35 mins to see the doctor + only 10 mins with the doctor + 5 mins to pay, not include 15 mins I came early. I hope they improve their service and do not overbook. We respect you by showing up on time. So please respect us back. read more

*There are two yelp review pages for this optometrist so i'll post this one here too. This review is for the front desk workers only. The doctors are very nice, but the front desk is so un-professional. I had been going to this doctor for a few years, but this time I had a new insurance. I called and told the girl on the phone, she ignored me when I said that I had a new insurance I paid myself. She told me that my social should be enough, so I gave it to her. My insurance info didn't come up and I told her that I had a member number if she wanted to use it. She said no, and that she would have to call the insurance. Did she? No because I called about an hour later and she said she hadn't been able to call. Ok I get it, they get busy I made my appointment and went. When I got there, it was horrible. The tech was rude, impatient, and didn't even give a friendly smile. I continued to ignore all this because I liked my doctor. I went ahead and finished my appointment and got in line to pay. A man walked right in front of me in line, and the same tech took him without asking who was next. I ignored it again, and asked the girl that helped me what the problem was with my insurance, and that's when the tech butted in and started arguing with me. I told her that I was trying to help her over the phone but she wouldn't have it. She continued arguing with me to the point that I just asked for her name and left. I called a few days later to talk to the manager of the area and complain but for some reason, she was on her side saying things like "She's my best worker" uh really? Then why is she rude, why isn't she friendly, why can't she even smile? Horrible service and I let them know I wouldn't be returning but of course, the manager didn't care. I suggest looking up Optometrists out of Costco's because the Costco one's are small and un-organized making it a recipe for disaster. read more

After much searching for a place that takes my insurance and does good work with making prescription glasses, I settled with Costco Optical. They don't take my insurance, but I only paid $185 for lenses and new frames, as opposed to almost $500 out-of-pocket, after insurance, at LensCrafters for just the lenses alone. The service was a bit "who's next" in feeling, but that's ok because my lenses were spot on and they were ready for pick up in four days. read more

Very rude. I was there on Saturday with my parents to check prices and hopefully setup an appointment for a later date. My dad walked up to the receptionist to ask how much an exam cost and she very rudely answered that it was too late for an exam and continued to do what she was doing. We understand that it was late and we didn't expect to be seen that day. The doctor might be great but we will never know since the receptionist was rude and we don't plan on ever going there. read more

I made an appointment for 4pm on a Thursday and schedule time off of work in order to get my eyes checked. I arrived and the girl at the front desk informed me I was scheduled for Saturday. Dr. Greg Pearl was great and informative.Very clear at explaining. The front staff was nice too. Quick and good service!

I highly recommend Dr. Greg Pearl in the Optical Dept. to check your eyes. He takes great care of his patients. Dr. Pearl has been there for many years, and whether you have eye insurance or not, he is worth the price of an office visit. Afterwards, take your glasses prescription over to get glasses. I have gone to Dr. Pearl for years. He was a lifesaver when I was diagnosed with diabetes, which terribly effected my eyes. He also helped me with one of my students. Though I have eye insurance through my medical insurance I still prefer to go to Dr. Pearl as do my husband and daughter. Thank you, Dr. Pearl! read more

I have been a long time member of costco. I enjoyed shopping throughout the warehouse and being a patient with their optical department. Until this past Friday! It was a absolute disgrace to the Norwalk Costco location as a whole because of the poor customer service given by Assistant Manager Jennifer. I don't know what her problem was but the unprofessional and lack of common sense she displayed was hands down the worst experience!! This Assistant Manager jennifer told me on three separate occasions my insurance showed in her system I was ineligible for my next eye exam. I asked jennifer if she could call my insurance company because I was sure I should be eligible. She brushed me off and said "I'm looking at the screen and it says you are ineligible " Finally I had an opportunity to call my insurance company for the second time because I do have to work and I was hoping Jennifer could call for me since she's already at work. I guess it wasn't worth her time. The representative from my insurance company told me she didn't understand what jennifer was looking at because I was in fact eligible. Guess what!! The exact Same day the representative called Costco Optical department to see if she could figure out what was going on and surely she did! The representative of my insurance company informed me there was a message on the screen that alerted Jennifer, the Assistant Manager there was limitations regarding authorization and to please call the insurance company for further instructions. So it NEVER said I was ineligible! In fact the system gave instructions for her!!! Once I got an accurate understanding of what happened I called Jennifer back to request to speak with the manager. Jennifer asked me if I wanted to set an appointment because my insurance company called her and there was a glitch in the insurance comany system. Lol! I couldn't believe she was on a roll with lies. I told jennifer I need to speak with her manager and she told me Bristol was out of the office. She said Bristol is the manager over the lakewood location too so I could leave a message. I left a message for the manager Bristol to call me at the Norwalk location and the Lakewood location so I could inform her of this horrible experience I received. I didn't get an opportunity to hear from Bristol until Wednesday. And this was AFTER several attempts to reach her since early Friday afternoon. I followed up Tuesday to call and see if Bristol received any of my messages at either location and her staff told me she's been in meetings. I finally heard from Bristol Wednesday and explained to her the poor customer service I received from her Assistant manager. Like usual the conversation did not seem like she cared at all about my side. The usual comeback was I apologize you felt that way and I don't think Jennifer lied I think she just overlooked something and I will definitely get with her. How do you overlook a lie??? She said she read on the screen I was ineligible!!! I'm so happy for yelp. This really gives customers a voice when people at these organizations want to ignore. read more

Very great and professional doctor, but very rude receptionist. Hope to bypass the receptionist if possible.

Last YEAR I had the contacts exam done and paid for the initial contacts, they never came in and staff had me come back 4 times to try and pick them up..but supposedly they never arrived, the last time I went to check there was a different receptionist, this time around I went only for glasses prescription and the relief DR. Noticed I had a contact exam the previous year and therefore asked if I didnt like my contacts, I told her what happened and she claimed I could pay for just the lenses exam since I never recieved my contacts. When checking out the (new) receptionist told me that I had to pay everything all at once and she couldnt find my order slip from the year prior but her system said I never recieved last year's order. Whatever. When ordering 2 pairs of glasses I was ignored by staff and was skipped I had number 168 and was upset when they ignored me but we're able to call all customer's until number 189 !!!! A woman named Vicky begrudgingly offered to help me and when I asked for frames to try on she walked away and took her break!!! Then I was ignored AGAIN until number 199 was called!!! I had to ask another employee to help me and she had Meggan help me, and I asked Meggan "is she ok? Or did she not want to help me ?" To which she replied that "oh she was helping two others shes on break now" as soon as Vicky saw I was being helped she got off the phone and called a different customer. When paying for my frames she took over the cash register I was being processed on..and had Meggan use the register 1ft away. I made up my mind and after I recieve all my items I will never come back to this location. read more

This was the first time using Costco for my Exam and new glasses after years of going to Dr. Cattel and Dr. Tran literally right up the street. I liked Dr Cattel and Dr. Tran a great deal, and the only reason I tried Costco was because I no longer had Vision insurance and wanted to save some $$. Well I could not be happier. The staff was superb and very helpful. I called and got an appointment the same day. Dr. Katzaroff was super nice and pleasant, very knowledgeable, thorough, and took the time to explain everything he was doing. Afterwards I went to pick out frames, and while the selection of designer frames is very very small I was able to find frames that I was happy with. My new glasses arrived in less than a week and when I went to pick them up the staff again was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. My total bill was far less even without Vision insurance. I highly recommend Costco for all your vision needs. read more
