With the reality that I've probably spent half my life earnings at this Costco aside, I was very disappointed with a recent purchase and how the customer service interaction was handled. My wife recently tried to exchange or get credit for a LENOVO laptop that conveniently broke just after the 2 year warranty expired. (I did not get the warranty because I never do, and expecting it to last longer than that is not unreasonable in my opinion). *'my iPhone has survived like 8 years and pretty sure got run over, too* The sole reason we bought this laptop from costco like so many other items in our home is because their business motto has always been, "buy with confidence". Instead of the usual "thank you valued customer, of course we can help", we received a brochure for tech support. We called the number and followed all the trouble shooting (hardline issue; broken keyboard) to no avail. The end result: "sorry nothing we can do". I will absolutely get a warranty next time... except, it will be from Best Buy from now on. I advise caution on all Costco electronic purchases and am pretty disappointed as a faithful customer. read more

My fiancé and I where there on Sunday getting frames for my glasses. And our service was absolutely horrible. Now this is a 4 star review because Costco as a whole is wonderful. You keep the store clean, baggers and checkers are helpful and quick and I feel like you always have every item stocked, and plenty of staff around to help. However. Mindy was working the optometry center with another gentleman. I understand understaffing is stressful but all mindy was doing was complaining about being understaffed and she seemed overwhelmed. When it was our turn to be helped I simply wanted to just buy the frames and not get my lenses filled at Costco. She threw attitude left and right to me and my fiancé because we weren't getting the frames filled. She was answering our questions very indirectly and I feel like she wasn't actually listening to either me or my fiancé. She kept telling me how I'm doing it wrong and that I'm not able to get them filled at my doctors because I bought them through Costco ? I'm not sure if she was just in a horrible mood or she is just misinformed. We have all worked in understaffed places. But not once have I ever let it effect my customer service. Customer service is friendly, but when I tried to return my under warranty laptop. The staff was kind of clueless. I decided to return the next day to sort everything out and I was successful. Just keep in mind it can be frustrating. The food court is a great buy and the pizza is to die for. Drinks for $1? That's very good considering how prices are rising nowadays. Costco is usually very crowded and I can tell why. I don't recommend purchasing a pc, however, because it could cause a headache of paperwork if it breaks. Costco hires the most friendly workers and it's always a plus to see people smiling all the time. Costco is a great place to buy churros, I usually stop at Costco to purchase a few items, and at the end, I buy a churro and a drink and this small package is only like $2. Costco is a must-go place for many items. I highly recommend going here. read more

A pretty standard Costco, nothing sets this one apart from any other one I've been to in other cities. They have pretty neat rotation of local food items for sale and keep the middle section season-appropriate. Nothing too horrible or that amazing going on here. A few minor complaints that don't necessarily keep me from coming back: - They have discontinued several food items AFTER I've bought it for several months and my family has fallen in love with it, this is frustrating as it's happened quite a lot. Perhaps this can't be helped. - I despise it when they move one of my regular grocery items, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack and sometimes I assume they've quit selling it and discover it weeks later in a different spot. I have asked floor workers before and they honestly seem as clueless as I am as to where stuff is located. - The checkout workers here are, well....... snotty(?) I couldn't tell you why but they don't smile and seem zombie-like even when you attempt to chat with them. I may have encountered a couple that were pleasant over the few years I've shopped here but mostly a pretty weird vibe going on in the checkout area. Even the store manager walks around and doesn't smile, or engage with the customers that I've ever seen. I don't need two giant bottles of ketchup or gallon jars of pickles. I don't care about free samples or cheap hot dogs. I'd rather shop where I have choices of products and sizes. I'd rather shop where the aisles have signs so I can find what I need. I'd rather shop where the checkout line doesn't resemble a passport check station. And I certainly don't want to pay a membership fee to shop in a place where they stop you and sort of check your basket when you leave. Who else does that? And why? I just went into Chico Costco and like every time I go most of the employees are arrogant and rude. I always put the things left in my cart with the bar code up. I even turned my Tide detergent upside down so the cashier can just bleep bleep bleep and keep moving. Today I walked up and said "hey how are you?" To the guy at the checkout and he absolutely said NOTHING. I realize these people see thousands of customers a day and maybe opening your mouth and speaking is not what they get paid for, I also know Costco could have monkeys and alligators working for them and probably still have net sales over One hundred BILLION dollars so they probably could care less that their employees are rude. But in case anyone is listening, I'm going to Cash and Carry next time. Who knows maybe if Costco spent a little time training their employees to be kind even if it's fake maybe they could hit $160 BILLION in sales for 2016. Walked in the exit to grab lunch and had my backpack searched on the way out. While I understand the reasoning (Chico has a theft issue) it was shocking to be stopped and put a damper on my day. Came in today to use the pharmacy and the guy that waited on us was very nice and went the extra mile to help. As an up date, came in today and was looking at computers. Although there are many things to love about Costco, and this is not about the staff, I am constantly frustrated at the quality of several foods I have bought. No avocado I've ever bought from Costco has ripened properly it goes from hard to rotten -- if they ever do ripen! . I just opened a big bag expensive macadamia nuts and they absolutely taste stale, the oil tastes off - how can macadamia nuts go bad , I had to return off the vine tomatoes because they were so ripe they were almost tomato sauce, and a big bag of Vidalia onion that when I cut had brown I spoiled lines through the middle onion and traces of mold at the bases of several onions. I've gotten tortilla soup that somehow exploded in the container all over my fridge before I opened it.I feel that this Costco sells food that you wouldn't see in the San Francisco Bay Area. I feel like were the 'last resort' Costco that gets the food that didn't pass muster somewhere else. I've just had so many frustrating experiences. I've got great bag salad and the cabbage and broccoli were in it was like chewy cardboard, I've got the boxed salads and it's already going moldy. I don't know what's going on with this Costco I'm not going to buy produce there anymore oh I'm leaving out all the times I've got watermelons, mini watermelons, cantaloupes,and they're inedible ! read more

Tire shop review: I have nothing but good things to say about my experiences with Pete and his shop employees. Last week, we bought a battery and Pete was incredibly knowledgeable. He gave us maintenance advice and was forthcoming about the pros and cons of each battery and the price point. We were not oversold. This week I came in because my tire pressure light came on. I think Scott helped me (I don't know if I am remembering that right, I do know that his uniform said supervisor). He was great too. They were busy, It was right before lunch, but he said he would happily pause and check my tire pressure. He removed his work gloves when accessing the spare tire inside my car since I have light tan carpet and upholstery. In less than 10 minutes, I was back on my way and my sensor light turned off almost immediately. read more

I've consistently have had problems with that pharmacy actually filling my prescriptions in a timely manner. I just got home earlier from almost a week in Reno and I'm moving out of town Wednesday. This script was too early to be filled before I left so I was told to come back today. Monday. I practically broke the sound barrier to pick it up before they closed and it isn't filled! Why? No reason. It was nice to get a call about the script after I had left at 8:35pm....to tell me they're low and won't be able to fill it until Wednesday. When I'll be in Vallejo unloading the truck containing my life. Why was there no note instructing it be filled later? No damned idea. If Costco wasn't the only place in town that called this particular medication I'd sooner switch but the fact I gave them over a week to fill it and now it's been delayed is not acceptable to me. They filled other scripts before mine. Good thing I'm leaving Chico. read more

Costco members: I highly recommend booking an appointment for tires. The staff did a great job this evening and fixed, repaired, balanced, rotated, the whole 9 yards. At the end, they tried calling my cell but my phone was pairing with a new set of AirPods. Steven saw me outside and yelled my name to let me know the car was ready. Solid! Was forced into buying a membership card by the card checker Carolyn. I told her specifically that I was there only to purchase hot foods. She told me I could not enter the store without a membership card. Talked to the return agent at the counter and he stated the same thing. When I told him that I've been to numerous Costco in which they never required me to buy a card to purchase hot food. He told me he could make it a one time exception. read more

As a Chico native, I've been going to this wholesale store ever since I was a young boy. I remember going here on the weekends with my parents and I'd often indulge on all the free samples that were given. Now I'm an adult, but I still live in Chico and go to the local Costco whenever I can. The store has so many things to choose from - it's so easy to get lost in it all and end up buying what you didn't even plan on buying prior to the visit. It's like being inside a big gigantic grey treasure chest. I discover something new every time I step foot in the store and that's worth the visit alone. Prices are good here. It's for people who like to buy in bulk and save, so that's always nice. The store is very clean, well lit and easy to navigate through. Always nice to grab a free samples while passing through the aisles (which is one of my favorite things to do). The people who work here are friendly and will help you if you just approach them as ask. There's a food court and all the food is unbelievably cheap. I'll occasionally grab a slice of pizza or a deliciously sweet churro after paying for my items. There's not really anything I don't like about our Costco, other than the fact that the lines at the registers can get painfully long at times. If you want to avoid this, I suggest never going on the weekends after noon. You'll be glad you didn't. read more

My daughter went to get food at the food court. She asked the attendant at the door if she needed her card to go to the food court (she just moved and couldn't find her card). Attendant said no and to "go for it." As my daughter and her friend were walking OUT with the food purchase, all of a sudden a guy named Jonathon ran after my daughter and friend. He demanded to see her card. She told him what the door attendant said, he still demanded it and waited for her to prove she had a membership card! I tried calling the manager. Went here for the first time by myself and with my young son... worst experience. First off,it was pouring outside,and all I needed to get was diapers(because Kirkland diapers are awesome). I was able to sign up for membership easy enough, and then decided to make a quick run through the store. I put the box of diapers in the cart, as well as a container of blueberries... that was all. Went up to the cashier,checked out as one would..then accidentally threw my receipt away because I hate receipts and forgot that they're needed here to get out of the building(with your items you clearly just purchased) Let the worker at the door know I had accidentally thrown away my receipt and that this was my first time shopping here on my own. He doesn't seem to care. Rudely tells me to go find a supervisor and points towards the checkout area. "How am I supposed to know who's a supervisor??", I said. I then go up to some random other young cashier, and she acts like i've disturbed her by asking her a question..at her place of employment...okay. She tells me the same thing, to let a supervisor know,and merely points in the same direction. So I walk up to this computer in the middle of the wall, and wait as several Cosco employees walk by me, completely ignoring me. After standing there with my shopping cart, and 1.5 yr old son who was starting to cry, someone FINALLY asks me if I've been helped yet. I explain to him what happened, and he printed me out a new receipt(he was the only one with any sort of customer service skills here) Honesty such a terrible experience(as if carrying my heavy son,plus a large box of diapers by myself in the pouring rain isn't bad enough). Sad to leave a negative review, but the behavior of several Costco employees warrants commentary. First and foremost, understand that if you come here, you should plan on handling your groceries yourself, even if you are asked whether you want a box. No matter how many times I confirm I want all of my items boxed, they will often box up only some of my groceries, rather than all. Or, even worse, attempt to put them all in one box, which is too heavy for me to carry. If I could carry that many groceries in a single box, I probably wouldn't need a cart! It's gotten to the point where I pick up boxes around the store to make sure I'm not dealing with either situation when I get to the register. Also, in recent months, customer service has taken a serious nose dive. I'm not talking about cashiers engaging in small talk with me, or that they are coming on too strong with the suggested upsell of end of transaction impulses, like food court items. I mean just in dealing with customers, the store associates seem particularly rude. Yesterday, I observed a greeter getting rude with a woman and her service dog, and she actually sneered at the woman's attempt to explain her dog was a service animal, even though it didn't have a vest. Newsflash, Costco: those vests don't mean anything! You can buy them at Amazon for $5. Educate yourselves. When I got to check out, the cashier said, "Don't you see we are changing drawers here?" Well friend, if I had known what the hell you were doing, it would likely be because I've worked at Costco before. Having never worked at Costco before, I didn't actually know what you were doing, fiddling around in the drawer. And all of that aside, Costco lets their employees talk to customers like that? I didn't even say anything, I just got into the line behind someone else. Having worked retail before, I get that catering to people kind of sucks, and Costco is great in a lot of ways. I support Costco because they provide a pretty fair wage (considering how unfair the system is) and it is, based on what I have heard, a decent place to work. I don't need people at the store to act like they are the luckiest people in the world just to deal with my consumer self. But do I think that there needs to be an emphasis on customer service, such as informing the forming customer line, "Hi folks, we need just a few minutes to do a cash drop/drawer pull/whatever terminology" or actually providing the customer with enough boxes to safely pack their groceries? This is a warning to all users of the Costco food court. Never buy beef brisket sandwich. Despite claiming it comes with BBQ sauce, it does not. When I asked if BBQ sauce was available I was told they didn't have any at all. The sandwich itself was soaking in grease. I do a lot of my major shopping here. Some of my favorite things have come and gone, other new things always coming in. I am impressed with the increasing stocks of organic foods and ingredients, and hope to see the trend continue. When the "Lean Finely Textured Beef" revelations occurred(AKA "Pink Slime" to those that pay attention) Costco's response was short and to the point. Their meats did not have it because they did not know how they could justify it to their customers. As one who has opted to organics to try and avoid as much GMO foods as possible, their trends are impressive. Their business model seems to have evolved to include a conscience, and over all I remain a fan. They do not always have what I need, but it is a great place to try first. The down side of course.. bring extra money because you are going to buy more than you came in for. read more

First time I've ever got less than stellar service from Costco, but had a bad experience. I needed a couple of Extra pizza boxes to divide 2-pizzas going to different location and food court refused. Spoke to Debra at customer service and she said that was wrong- go back and get boxes. Original employee called food court supervisor about issue, who told me that"these things cost money" and went down to service desk to chastise Debra. Two cardboard boxes for a guy that has a business Amex card and spends $20K+ per year...ludicrous. Hopefully REI and Nordstrom's don't follow suit, as I spend a HUGE Amt of money with all of them. Costco, realize that you need to continue exemplary customer service or I'll drop my membership. Matter or principal, as they get quite a bit cash from my Using the Costco credit card, and my shopping there consistently. I've been going to Costco for about ten years now. We've been to Costco's in Minnesota and we've shopped at Costco's in San Diego. This Costco in Chico is the worst we've been to. In fact, if this were my first and only experience with Costco I probably wouldn't renew my membership. I haven't taken pictures but every single time I've been there, no matter what time of year, the produce is moldy and rotting right there for everyone to see. I even went so far as to ask the produce guy that I always see what's up with all of the rotten food and he said "we're just too far up north. The food rots on the way. It's not my fault, nothing I can do". Too far up north? Nothing he can do? My husband worked as a produce guy at the Costco in Minnesota. He showed up at 4 every morning with the rest of the morning crew and went through the produce and threw away what was rotten so that customers wouldn't have to throw away half of their bag of potatoes or case of apples! This is how Costco learns which vendors to buy through. If their produce department is constantly having to toss half of a shipment then obviously Costco is loosing money and can't pass any savings onto the customer. Other than the huge issue with their produce department we've gotten food poisoning from their chicken pot pies in the deli. That wasn't fun with a two and five year old. Also they hire a lot of college students, nothing wrong with that. But their employees have been extremely rude and unprofessional. There are a good handful of faces that I've come to recognize over the three years I've been here and they're good. But when you see young employees riding the cardboard trolly down a busy path not minding the small children and elderly, you have to wonder read more

I have to say that I am really impressed with Costco's customer service. I made an online request for Just Egg (it's carried at some other Costco's). Not only did the store manager follow up the next day, the buyer emailed me today with a possible date that they might carry it. My suggestion for improvement is the check out lines. I really like all costco stores in general but after reading negative reviews about customer service I had to write about my family's experience. My mom went shopping here some time ago and hD a cart full of groceries enough to feed five adults and a child (lots of groceries!) when she got to the checkout line, she realized she left her wallet at home in paradise. They said they could put the groceries in the walk in and she could go to paradise and come back with the money. She was willing to do that but a neighboring clerk didn't want her to have to drive all he way there and back. She offered to pay for all of my moms groceries on my moms promise that she would bring her money the next day on her way to work. It was over $400 in groceries that this clerk paid for for us. It was one of the kindest most trusting things I've ever seen, especially from a complete stranger. Needless to say, we brought her money back - and then some. Her name is Ludmilla (spelling?) and I think she still works there. Maybe the customer services issues people are complaining about are more of "customer issues" than "customer service issues" read more

Have always loved Costco. That is why I am so disappointed in my most recent experience. I bought a Silverton model Traeger during the roadshow at the Costco in Chico. Having been wanting to buy a Traeger for quite a while, I was informed that the Silverton was an especially great value at $699. About one week later I saw a larger model, the Elite 34 for $599. This model had been marked up at $799 during the roadshow. I felt there was a clear bait and switch at work. I brought this to the attention of the manager on duty, Mike, who essentially called me a liar and that the model was always $599. The problem with his claim, they had not had a Traeger for sale since I arrived in town (since September). Returning a Traeger grill is not so easy a task, especially in the rainy winter and living 35-40 minutes away. But the rhetoric from Mike was bring it back. He was unwilling to help explain the corruption at work with their pricing scheme and claimed I was too upset to help. I never raised my voice, nor used any foul language. I pointed out the pricing and asked for an explanation. Mike chose to blame Traeger, and then blame me, the customer. Mike then claimed to be the Store Manager. My advise to Costco, get a Store Manager who is interested in helping customers. Mike doesn't seem too interested in that. I try to be very fair with Yelp reviews. I am open to changing my perspective and experience with more information. With this being the only Costco in the area, should things not improve we'll be cancelling our membership. Update: Waited on hold with Traeger for 3 minutes and they were able to explain the differences between the two models. They also apologized for the misrepresentation, which was neither their fault nor intended but certainly appreciated. The Silverton is a newer model and the Elite Texas 34 is discontinued. Shame on Costco for selling a discontinued model. I bumped my review to 3 stars as every other interaction with employees and service here has been top notch. I maintain knocking two stars off for a pretty awful manager in Mike, especially not knowing the products. read more

They not only have the majority of staples for my household on the cheap -- piles of veggies, pounds of chicken, loads of eggs -- but lots of miscellaneous items I've wanted but could not justify spending the money on at other stores. Organic coconut oil? Check. Medjool dates? Check. Sweet potatoes? Check. Items that disappear after you've come to rely on Costco for them because they're literally 200-400% more expensive at other stores or even on Amazon? Yep, lots of those, too. The Costco giveth and the Costco taketh. I'm ok with this, though, because it means they're constantly making room for other interesting items. Employees here are generally courteous and helpful, parking spaces are plentiful and generous, customer service has never given me any guff about returns, and since I have the executive Costco membership with the American Express card I actually got over $500 in rewards this year as I use it for most of my expenses then pay it off weekly. Being a Costco member has been a really good deal for me, even with the occasional WTF IS THIS I HAVE TO TRY IT completely unnecessary impulse purchases. Also free samples. YES. read more

GAWD there are a TON of people and this place has EVERYthing. Except an adding machine. They didn't have one those. I went in and looked for an adding machine ... a glorified calculator.... cost me $700 dollars. I spent that much money looking for a 10 key calculator!!!!! I walked out with EVERYthing BUT a calculator. I'm never shopping for one of those again at Costco ;-) This place is the go to place for anything you need. Look them up on line too. We've gotten lots of things that way. And sometimes, the prices are better online that in-store. read more

This Costco have literally everything!!! First thing first, it's member only. They have different level of membership and price is between $55-$100idh. They save you a lot of money. Gas station and lowest price than other regular gas station out there. Staff at gas station is friendly and helpful when you need them, they are there. Warehouse is so huge! They have food court where you can stop by on your way in or out. Pizza, hotdogs, drinks and etc. We ordered several pizzas from there and every time it's so yummy! Best deal is get one whole pizza because you end up with leftover and you save $. Their clothes quality is very good. Not like Walmart quality. They are reasonable price as well. My husband brought Khombu boots there and it's sturdy quality. We plan get some good clothes there someday. They had those thick flannel sweatshirt. It amazed me how thick they are and truly going to keep you warm through winter! They sell organic foods and drink there. They sell many bulk food for great deal. Absolutely amazing deal because it will last you longer if you are only a married couple. It's indeed great for big family, big party or even huge event. They sell household supplies that will guarantee last you long time unless you have big family. Pet needs, kitchen needs and all that. It's all there.
