Alright you frat boys. This is where the hot chicks are. Seriously. This is where you can find baby chickens. They have all kinds of feed for pets and livestock and when you walk in it has that ...feed store / tack room smell of molasses and hay. My family has been going here for years and unfortunately, today will be my last purchase here. I have been taking my lab here since she was a puppy and was told she no longer allowed in the store. I told him since the new store policy No Dogs I will buy my dog food elsewhere for now on. He refused to sell me a bag of dog food. I will buy my seed and orchard supplies elsewhere. I feel that C bar D is the best out of all of Chico's local feed stores. The other guys are okay, but I often drive out of my way (from my home in south-east Chico) just to shop here. The owner is really really nice, as are his strapping young employees. Aside from all the feed store-standard merchandise, they have the best organic chicken feed selection in the area, and often have really nice vegetable starts. Oh, and their "taste of the wild" brand cat food is the only thing I've found that will keep my cat from blarfing hair balls every other day. I almost took off one star because they can be a bit expensive--I'll admit I sometimes cheat and buy organic chicken feed from costco--but I'd really rather shop locally. And they offer soy-free chicken feed here, haven't found that elsewhere.. read more

I've been going here for years and I love this place. I now buy Taste of the Wild for my cat but I started with the brand for my 2 dogs. I found their price for this was less than any other place I'd found it. I haven't checked other prices lately though. Also, they have some seeds in bulk at a very reasonable price and you get SO much more than in a tiny seed packet from a big box store. I can't remember if they are all flower seeds, but I have a nice mixture of sweet peas and poppies along my front fence. I purchase hooves for the dogs to chew and niger seed in bulk for the finches. Lastly, they don't ask, they just pick up heavy items and take them out to the car. I find them helpful and cheerful. read more

Came on a sun morning. Most other feed stores were closed. Wonderful customer service. They were so nice to me. All I needed was a little hay for my rabbit and they told me I can help myself to the loose hay in the back. Grab only what I needed and then we were off. I'm so touched on how little I needed and how they took the time to help me. Thanks guys! I highly recommend this place!! read more

C Bar D is my go-to place for animal supplies. I like the fact that they are open on Sundays and I especially like their no-dog policy because dogs do not belong in stores unless they are genuine, trained service dogs. I have no issues with any of the staff because they have always been kind and helpful to me. read more

I have known Colin and his workers at the store for years. They are always very kind and courteous to me and my wife when we come in. They are respectful and helpful; I have very much appreciated their help over the years we have been going there for seeds, plants, chicks and feed. Respect begets respect - they respect me as a customer, so long as I respect them as employees and the owner of the business. Businesses and employees are struggling so much right now, I am surprised that anyone would write a negative review of this great business, it's wonderful owner, and it's competent and dedicated employees. read more

I've been coming to this place for awhile. The owner of the place with the long white hair is very unfriendly. They don't allow dogs to come inside their building and he is very argumentative. I had purchased chick starter from them and they did not tell me it was medicated. I was told my a silkie breeder not to feed the chicks medicated feed. When I called the c bar d to ask if they had given me medicated food, they said it was (even though they didn't write it on the bag or tell me) and they would not return it. It upsets me that he wouldn't return and refund a small bag of feed when they didn't tell me the food was medicated. I was really polite to the owner but he tries to argue with me saying I should feed it anyways and he wouldn't return it. I've been coming here for years for horse feed but will never return unless the owner treats his customers better and does the right thing. This wasn't the only situation where I've encountered negative interactions with the owner as well. Would not recommend. read more

I went to C Bar D to look for a dog collar, didn't know what size to get so I brought in my pup. The guy behind the counter ran up screaming at me to get my dog out of the store "because dogs piss all over everything and make a mess". He got his wish, I got back in my truck and took all the money I spend on dog and horse supplies with me, I'll support someone who enjoys the work they do. read more

My family lives 13 miles from C Bar D. We happily drive there, past every feed store in Chico, with 3 children under 4yrs old, to do business with Colin. Lately, we have been buying many of his chickens. My children love walking up to all the different cages looking at all the different chicken breeds. I love seeing that the workers are well informed on the chicks and that the chickens themselves are well taken care of and in good condition. This store has the reasonable prices, customer service, knowledge, and friendliness to keep me and my family coming back time and time again. The place to go for organic and soy free feed options. The staff is great, helpful and informative. I was asked to pick up my dog (dachshund) due to the pee concerns, which as a dog owner, I'm quite familiar with! I respect Colin's desire to keep a clean store, and was not offended in the slightest by his request. Granted, he asked nicely, so maybe that older review was helpful. read more
