I called around to a few places to ask some questions and check availability for our 6mo old puppy's first grooming. They were very communicative about how they take care in making sure the dogs are comfortable and not being pushed too far during their first few grooming appointments, and were able to him in 1 week from my phone call. The groomer made sure he knew what kind of haircut we wanted for Buckley, and when we picked him up he also made sure to ask if we were happy with how his haircut looked. Buckley is scared of water so we were expecting him to be difficult to groom, but they were able to get him washed and brushed through and got all the hygiene stuff & nails done. He looks adorable and left the appointment happy & tail wagging. We'll be back! read more

Before the last groom I got at Coature I would have recommended this place. The prices are amazing and my Maltese poodle always came back smelling and looking amazing. I also really appreciated that she wasn't sitting in a kennel in the back waiting for hours. I had been taking her there for over a year before I couldn't justify the mistakes any longer. 1. I went to pick her up and one of the employees tried to hand me someone else's dog...no biggie, mistakes happen, you're busy, I let it slide. 2. I get a call to come pick her up and I get there only to be told that they called about the wrong dog and mine wasn't ready yet. They offered a discount and we left it at that. No great shakes. 3. Third and final - my dad gets a call (my parents pick her up and drop her off sometimes while I'm at work) to come pick her up immediately and that they were closing in 30 minutes. They said they had tried to call my mom and I multiple times (bold faced lie, I had no missed calls and my mom had 1). My dad rushes over to get her to find her STILL ON THE GROOMING TABLE and uncomfortably standing there WHILE THEY CLEANED. I found out about it when I got home from work and I would have called but they were closed. NOT OKAY, I'm clearly still very upset about it and it's been months. My dog is my baby and at almost 12 years old she has had NUMEROUS grooming experiences but none quite like this. I'm sure my mom has had more issues with them than just these 3 I've listed. Everything started out great and slowly went downhill. I would never recommend them to anyone at this point. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about James and his staff at Coature Spa. My mom has been taking her fur baby here for years. I needed to get my puppy Max groomed and I called James on Tuesday and he was able to get me in the next day on Wednesday. Even with it being a holiday week he was so accommodating and said come by. Max is just a puppy and the last groomer I took him was terrible. I explained that situation and James said he should be fine. He was there for a little over 3 hours. Max looked wonderful when I picked him up. James gave me a full report on Max. James and his staff took amazing care of my fur baby and were so friendly. If you live in the Chico area I highly recommend Coature Spa. You can rest assured they will take amazing care of your fur babies. Owner is a veteran, so big ups to that. Our dog is a senior, so we've had her nails trimmed many, many, times at many different places. I've also grown up participating in dog shows with my family and I can honestly say that the only time I've ever seen a large dog picked up off the ground to have its nails trimmed was if it was being completely unruly. Despite my telling the groomers that my dog is old and really does better on a grooming table (they did have an open table), one groomer picked her up and held in the air while the owner clipped her nails right there in the lobby. He was so brisk I had to check her quicks when we got home to make sure they weren't bleeding (they weren't, thankfully). Just an off-vibe in there towards my pup and me. Unfortunately won't return :( read more

Took my dog here months ago, the girl was nice and informed me that my little puppy must have been quicked by another groomer, because he was terrified--peed and bit..I apologized and she told me it's ok she was able to calm him down and that I should keep taking him to the same groomer so he's used to them and let them know that he's been quicked and is traumatized by it. I tried to take him back there, telling the man that answered the phone what his employee had told me--he refused to take my 10 lb dachshund pup because he said "some of the worst bites I've had are from dachshunds" and when I suggested he muzzle him if he's that concerned about it, he said "I'd prefer not to have him here, it's nothing personal" Conflicting messages and bad business. If you can't handle trimming the nails of a scared 10 lb weinerdog, maybe don't be a dog groomer... Also stated I would have to leave him there for more than 2 hours for a nail trim.. Wouldn't recommend. read more

I have been going here for years and really appreciated the kindness of the workers. I always felt sense of hostility from the business owner but always felt relaxed because of the kindness of his workers. However last time I went I got a full clean on my dog and he didn't clean his anal glands all the way which was obviously very irritating for my dog and when I returned to tell him they didn't properly get rid of it, he told me that it wasn't poop, but a freckle. I had to stick my fingernail in my dogs butt to figure out that it was his poop and he didn't want to acknowledge or fix the problem they created.
