This place is great. I live in a small apartment so I didn't know if I could handle this place...but turns out it works for me despite me not having 5 mouths to feed. Credit card wise, they only take American Express. You can apply for one with them if you don't have one. Membership is $55 and they've way more than you'd imagine. I bought gas there! And it was much cheaper than anywhere else in central Chicago - thats for sure. If you drive a big car, the gas savings alone should attract you. I don't so I was sold by all the other stuff. They have fresh produce. If I could knock off 1/2 a star for their lack of organic produce I would. They have some (broccoli, apples, and salad/spinach) but not nearly enough - of particular concern to me are foods on the "dirty dozen" like berries and celery - they have both but all conventional. Boo. But I did get 4lbs of grapes for a little over $8. 1.5 gallons of 1% organic milk for $11. They have cage free organic eggs for a reasonable price - good to avoid those PCBs! Big meat/poultry/fish section which was great. Other stuff is great too. Tons of "microwave and serve" stuff that's also healthy for people on the go. Free samples...every day it seems. I went on a Sunday and a Thursday - plenty of samples to try. Wide aisles so you don't get trapped by other people's shopping carts. Tents, tvs, kitchen appliances, they have an optical center that I haven't had the pleasure of checking out yet. Like 5lbs of honey for $12 or so. Customer service is great. Not ONE person working there was rude to me - not one. And I had questions about where things were, etc etc and people were helpful all around. As I get older, I am realizing how important customer service is. Costco gets it. No bicycle racks - I get it, whose going to ride their bike to Costco - but people have trailers and in Chicago, there are definitely people who'd utilize that bike lane on Roosevelt to get some shopping done. Add bike racks Costco! And lastly, they pay their workers a fair wage and give them health care - thereby not forcing tax payers to subsidize their business by paying their workers so little that they qualify for food stamps/other government aid - unlike some other big box places. I've been a member of Costco since 2002. I would trek from the south side all the way to Lincoln Park to access all the amazing goods that the store provided. The LP store is an amazing place with great product and most of all great customer service. Once, an assistant manager lent me her truck so I could transport a piece of furniture that would not fit in my car! When Costco opened up the Ashland store, it was much welcome since I would not have to make the epic travel to the north once a week. At first, the store was great. There was barely any traffic there. I don't think the surrounding communities were aware or prepared for this type of store and shopping experience. Unfortunately, this store has turned out to be a disappointment. I carries a fraction of product that the Lincoln Park store has. It lacks in wine selection, produce, baked goods and many other items. The store is dirty and unkempt - the carts are not cleaned out and usually have all types of debris left in them. The parking lot is crowded and people are very rude not having any sort of driving or parking etiquette. The food court is chaotic - many times food is not prepared or the staff is rude. Finally, the cashiers are not as friendly or helpful as the cashiers in other stores. I only go to this store if I absolutely have to. The trek up north is definitely worth the exchange for a well run, well stocked store. read more

What makes this Costco different? It has kimchi, dried seaweed, Chinese sausage, and other asian-friendly items. There's a Korean pork jerky (bbq style) near the front that you absolutely must try. If that hasn't drawn you in, then you have to become a member just for the cheap gas. read more

There is now a Costco in the South Loop! This place just opened on Thursday 6/28/12, so they are still working out a few kinks. But they were running well on Saturday! The staff seem so excited to be at a new store, and most of them were really friendly and helpful. This store has mostly the same things as any other Costco: gas station, 1 hour photo, pharmacy, bakery, etc. They had some really nice products on display that I haven't seen at the Lincoln Park Costco (coach and other fancy purses, Clinique make up, some other make up I don't remember, some nice clothes and shoes, etc). I'm between 4-5 stars as there still some kinks, but my sister said 5 stars and she doesn't say that often so 5 stars it is. Already a plus since it's closer. Parking was easy. They have a gas station. Love the samples. Staff seems friendly (let's see how long that lasts.) An employee helped us unload our cart (that was a first). They put the empty boxes under by the cashier area. I didn't see another area since I like the bigger boxes. Not much of a toys selection. Saw a few stuffed animals, Angry Bird items and maybe a pool. Hope they are just waiting on shipment. Went by the customer service desk and people were all lined up around the desk and people standing around. There was no indication of where the line starts so you just stand and wait wherever and hope to be called. Where else can you get a lunch to fill up 2 adults and a toddler for under $5. Here! First time coming here. This place is an absolute mad house full of people when we got here. Then again, it was a bears game in town. I was already having a bad day prior but I needed to get stuff for home which I found absolutely no problem. Got some stuff on sale too. I had yet to visit a Costco that was not packed with people--until I came here!! What a wonderful experience it was coming here on a Friday morning. Their parking lot is huge but because of the lack of shoppers, we were able to get one close to the doors. I used to be a Costco shopper, but buying in bulk really did not work out for me price-wise. However, I got an invitation in the mail offering me a free shopping experience without having to be a Costco member. So, I decided to take the opportunity to shop here! A wonderful addition to the south loop-ish area!!! The people here were really nice from the food service to the check out service. Like Costco's nationwide, this store had it all. They had a lot of food tastings/samplings and a variety of food. I wish they had a bigger frozen burrito selection though. I miss the chimichangas. This Costco also has an auto area for service and tires, as well as a gas station. Unfortunately, the food at the food area where they sell the pizzas/hot dogs/drinks was only okay. I got a chicken bake that looked good from the top, but the bottom was burnt. I didnt realize this until I was already home and ready to eat it. The frozen blended mocha coffee drink was also not very good. I'm hoping to have another free weekend for non-members so I can come here again to shop! read more

I bought a membership mainly for access to their premium gas since fueling BMWs is expensive. However, I love shopping their seafoods, meats, chocolates, desserts, fruits, vegetables and wines. I also bought appliances including the awesome "Ninja" blender which was discontinued and various items such as fireproof safe, Mobil engine oil, food storage containers and the excellent blue denim premium car cover by Covercraft. This is my neighborhood Costco. Every month I go to the pharmacy. The pharmacist and her staff provide excellent service. I highly recommend the pharmacy. The produce department has a wide variety of food, with some organic offerings. The bakery bakes every day. The bisconi are delicious. I especially like the cranberry orange. The layered bars are lovely. You can order custom cakes in advance of the day you need them and they taste very good. I do not care for the Costco pie crust so I can't recommend their pies. read more

This review is for the pharmacy! I got my COVID vaccines here and, a couple minutes after my second dose, felt dizzy and sort of passed out. The whole team was so kind and attentive. They quickly took action and did everything they could to make me feel better (took my blood pressure and got my legs above my head and got me an ice pack and water). Obviously fainting wasn't fun but it was so nice to get such quality care. Thank you Costco pharmacy vaccine staff! I highly recommend coming to this pharmacy. I like this Costco it has several days of the week in which it isn't too busy. Sunday evenings and Weekday afternoons. They are pretty clean. Although their strawberries tend to have at least one with mold on it which I don't like but I guess it's hard to keep strawberries from molding. Although I do believe in keeping strawberries refrigerated instead of keeping them outside in a warmer temperature. But that's just me. I like their customer service and it is pretty organized. It is the Costco closest to where we live so we go there a lot simply because it's closer than other Costcos. The one on Clybourn never has anything I am looking for so I'm glad the Ashland location is beter stocked. read more

I heart Costco. Back when it used to be called Price Club, I was already a fan. (Yup, I'm takin' it back to the ole skewl). The gas is cheap (score!), there are usually free samples of food handed out, and best of all...you can get a hot dog and fountain drink for only $1.50. That price has not changed since I can remember. I mean...who does that??!!~ COSTCO! That's who!!! Costco is consistent with the high quality of their products. If I see something on sale, or if I see a product from a brand I've never seen...I'm still confident that if I purchase it and try it out, it will be a great buy. Not only do we save money by shopping here, but it's such a great bargain for great quality products. When in doubt, just buy the Kirkland brand if there's a choice between that or another more well-known brand name. You really can't go wrong with it. read more

I enjoy coming to this Costco as the employee here are pretty great. The greeters are polite and seem to actual want to be there. When checking out, people are very understanding and cheery. It is also great when people help you box your grocery or your items in a neat package. They can play Tetris well if I do say so myself. They do mlmtake into consideration to not crush your food. They did change their food court a bit. It has their own kiosk to order your food there versus having to wait in line to have a worker take it. This would allow more workers to help get food ready versus them having to take it. I think this is very efficient. It would be unfortunately for people who have food allergies as I am not sure if the kiosk say any food allergies. read more

This is like my love-hate relationship with Target, you can't leave without blowing at least $100 on a few items and you're always grabbing unnecessary things on your way to check out! But hey I can grab a half sheet of cake for under $20 bucks, buy lunch for under $10, pick up groceries, appliances, clothes, & of course great booze! Have been Costco member for 10 years. On Nov 2022, did returning items to this Warehouse. General return is fine and just a slow service most of time. I have two on-line purchased items two weeks ago that have Holiday sale price with some $off now, They could not do the price off credit it at the Warehouse and the employee has bad service attitudes about this ! Talked to Manager and one Supervisor, They do not know that the price adjustment request can be done on-line at Costco.com. They like me to return and rebuy it. Therefore, What an Ironic unprofessional service at this Warehouse Customer Service ! Are they really like to server Costco Member nicely? This place gets packed on the weekend (so I've been told) so it's best to try to get here during the week. I've been here a few times with friends on weeknights (as I don't have a Costco card of my own) and it has all the regular things to expect from Costco. I've gotten everything from some nice rubber mats for the car to chocolate covered strawberries and moscato for a girls' night. Food is good, everything is cheap, and they seriously have nearly everything. In all earnestness, this is where you should block yourself in if there were ever to be a zombie uprising. My friend suggests always getting a cart, as even if you only get 2 items both of your arms are going to be full already and you won't be able to take advantage of any of their other bulk deals. read more

We love this costco. We always been a member if costco. And since we live close to this location, it's like we automatically in love with this location. The parking is huge. Other cost of have huge parking, but for me, in this location, it's just easier to get parking near the entrance. (Trust me! 3 kids and only by myself, parking near entrance is just like I win a jackpot! ) The cashiers, the greeters and the people who check go the stuff are super nice to me and my 3 kids. My kids are actually feel like costco is their second home. I normally have great experiences at this Costco. I have been a member for two years now and always was in awe at how much more organized this store was compared to another "club" I belong to. That all changed on Sunday. This was initially like any other trip to Costco, I put way more in my cart than I intended to, but cest la vie! Then I got to the checkout...and got Tina as my cashier. as is often my practice when checking out, larger items are left in the cart and I turn the UPC code upright so they can be easily scanned. As I step up to hand Tina my card, she looks at my cart, then back to me... Tina: "Is this your cart?" Me: "Yes" Tina: *sighs, rolls eyes* Begins to grab items out of cart and put on conveyor belt in the most aggressive manner Me: Oh, you can't use the scanning gun? Tina: *Ignores me* Me: "Do you not have a scanning gun?" Tina: *continues to ignore me* Me: "Excuse me. I left them in there because I thought you could use the scanning gun" Tina: "That doesn't matter" *in an irritated tone. Me: "Uh...OK, I normally do that so...I didn't know it was an issue" Tina: "Anything under 15lbs goes on the belt!" *rolls eyes* At this point she rings me up but doesn't put my items in my cart, like EVERY OTHER CASHIER DOES WHENEVER I HAVE SHOPPED HERE. So in addition to her horrible disposition, I have to now place my items in the cart, and try not to hold up the line...but it gets better. I have croissants and hot dog buns in my cart...she sets a box on my bread! When I say I was pissed...it's an understatement. I get that we all have bad days, but her behavior was beyond and unnecessary. There were so many opportunities for her to do better and she chose not to. If I had not just renewed my membership, I probably would not have, based on this trip. If I were a rude or impatient customer, then maybe I could see the attitude, but I was none of those things...she was just a horrible cashier that day and apparently left her customer service hat at home. Not very pleased with the structure of such a large corporation but what can you do? They have a great selection of almost everything your don't need, but will still but. Great business model, eh? After an afternoon of shopping and a couple hundred dollars later, we were eager to leave but the line to leave was even longer than the checkout line. It stretched all the way back to the checkout line and there was only ONE person checking receipts to check out. They don't even really look at the receipt to cross reference what you bought, but that's just corporate for you. This is for the Tire Center. I went in at 10am to buy a new set of tires. The place was empty, not a single customer at 10:15 am. The gentleman at the tire desk took my membership card and looked at my tires and said that a new set of Bridgestone Tires would be $490 (on sale) installed. Michelin had a sale that ended 6/13/21 so he recommended the comparable set of Bridgestone. He printed me a quote and said would I like to make an appointment or wait an hour or two to have them installed. I said I would wait to have them installed. At that point, he said sorry the sale will not start for the Bridgestone until next week, if you want them installed now it will be $600. I told him I didn't want to pay an extra $110, and he said sorry I will get a manager to void the sale and you can come back next week. I went off and got online and confirmed that the Bridgestone tires were indeed on sale today (6/14/21) and the price installed would be $490. I called the store and spoke with a manager, named "Amanda". I told her what happened and she said I will go talk to the tire department. Amanda did not ask my name or membership number and just said sorry. I took this to mean she was either not a real manager or did not want to provide anything like good customer service. I went to a local tire shop and for the same money got helped right away. My wife called back and spoke with another manager (who was respectful and apologized) who said the price issue was a glitch in the system, the quote doesn't look like a system glitch to me. read more

If I can give negative stars, I will but unfortunately I can't. Me and my family have been a loyal Costco for a looong time. But my visit to the south loop Costco location was a huge disappointment, not because of the quality of the stuff they sell. It's the racism I've encounter when we walked out of the Costco with a cart of things. The guy who was checking the receipt and shopping cart literally stopped every single Asian/Hispanic customer and checked the item number. And the worst part was he stopped the customer and said " hold on , let me check your cart and see your receipt ..." but all the other Caucasian customers were let go without being checked. Yes, he's doing his job , but only targeting Asian/ Hispanic. If this is not racism, what would you call this? read more
