Low rating is due to the treatment of the employees and the customers at the check out lines. Some form of this is standard, but this past weekend really topped it off - Whilst in the checkout line, there was a woman simply pacing back and forth shouting endlessly to no one in particular, "Let's go! Move! Hurry up! Keep it moving people!" Etc. How is this meant to be helpful? Not helpful to staff who is doing the best they can. Certainly not helpful to customers who are already scrambling to have their ID cards ready to go before they get reprimanded at checkout. I've considered cancelling my membership just because the "shopping experience" here is such trash. read more

Costco is simply intuitively amazing. Period. Of all the stores I've either worked in or have shopped in over the course of my nearly sixty years of existence, Costco continually amazes me with their friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff, their wide and yet at the same time, precise range of goods offered for sale daily which I believe are highly comparable to similarly branded items sold by Costco's well known competitors. Costco offers honest value for your hard earned dollars. Rarely have issues with finding parking and just never seems to be overly crowded compared to Costco's I went to growing up in California. This location does have a gas station which is nice as it's cheaper to fill up than other locations nearby. More recently they've added self checkout lines here which are nice if you just have a couple of items and feel that you could check yourself out fast than standing in a line to have someone check you out. read more

I like buying in bulk. It saves so much time and money. This place works really hard to get customers out the doors. Usually ample registers open. I've become hip to the food service offered. I got my first smoothie for $2.99 today. It was okay - since I hadn't eagerness much it did the job. I now understand why my brother loves their $1.50 hot dog special. There's a $1.99 pizza slice special. And people enjoy their frozen yogurt all times of year. Becoming a member was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Despite signs posted all over the place, workers don't always tell customers to keep their masks on. They simply walk passed them. A little girl walked up to the pizza with her mask off breathing on it. Her dad says nothing as well as the worker behind the counter. The dad wears his mask as a chin guard. By customer service counter, there was a dad who's walking around with his mask as a chin guard while the rest of his family has their masks on completely. Again, the workers at the counter don't say anything about it. As you leave, the gentleman by the exit has mask on that doesn't cover his nose. You're supposed to cover your nose and mouth. It's like walking around wearing your underwear with only your balls covered. You look ridiculous old man! Not sure what kind of training the workers got but they aren't very good at their job when it comes to ensuring customer safety via enforcing the masks and social distancing. The signs don't mean squat if you don't verbally tell them to the customers face. They need things spelled out to them. read more

I have to admit I was like a kid in a Candy Store. Costco has everything from Clothes to Furniture, Tires to Flowers, Food to Jewelry, Tv's to medicine, books to computers and wines to kitchen appliances. I was very impressed and it made me want my own Costco card. If you didn't know you can't buy anything without being a member and right now it's $60 dollar for a Regular membership which you have 1 other person in your family as authorized buyer. They also have the Executive membership which is $120 which gives your more perks than the Regular membership. From my understanding you can start with the Regular membership and Upgrade to the Executive membership. They had a lot of free samples around the store but there was one woman who was there that kept us laughing. She was so nice and although we didn't get the sausage links while we were at this visit we are definitely going to look for them on the next visit. You can get lost in this Warehouse but that's a good thing because in every aisle it is something new. They also have a Restaurant inside the store that sells hot dogs for only $1.50 and they were pretty tasty. As always folks... Enjoy!!! read more

A Costco is a Costco, right? Large items, low prices, not too much to really complain about, but still a good place to get some grocery shopping done. All Costcos are set up to be pretty similar, and this one in the south is no exception. Expect a bit of craziness on Sundays, decent booze selection, and cheap hot dogs. I was surprised on my most recent trip to find that they've installed the self-service food registers here, along with adding acai bowls and chili to the menu (RIP bratwursts). For all the similarities, I do feel like I find a better selection out in the burbs. I never see a person serving up bulk seafood here, and I rarely see some of the hard to find beef cuts here. Though I will say, again on my most recent trip I was surprised to find the prime rib eye cap for purchase. Had to pick that up! The location's a bit out of the way, but not too far from the pink line (or an Uber of course). The only issues we really run into with this Costco are the somewhat early closing hours, but again this is on par with other locations. If you can justify the cost to your household, this is a fine place to stock up for the week...or month...or longer... read more

Today is opening day and I am so happy it is here! Although quite full, it is so big that you do not bump into anyone. Very neatly done and so bright. The parking lot is beyond huge and I am sure it could accommodate a few hundred easily. What I did like about this Costco is the location. Right in the middle of the city off of Ashland and so convenient from every part of the city. Of course, I went to the Food counter, where I bought the famous hot dogs (foot longs?) for $1.50 including a drink from the soda fountain. This is definitely a really fast and cheap lunch. Although they do not use Vienna as in other Costco's, it still did the trick. The store boast some of the best items in bulk that you are able to find. And I am glad that they had the samples of foods today because I ended up buying more items, wait, that may have not been a good idea after all. They have an awesome tire department, pharmacy, deli, bakery. The usual departments as in most Costco's. Definitely a plus and I will be coming by more often I am sure. read more

Bought a new computer and used their trade-in service for the previous model that was in like new condition. Received quote on-line. $735. Sent in computer. Inspection returned a revised quote $150 less than was quoted. $585. Rejected that. Computer sent back in nice box, however Costco kept my original power supply ($50) and the hard cover I had shipped with it. So, all-in-all, trading with Costco cost me $75. Review on the prepared pizza: We have ordered the Costco pizza at several locations and are generally satisfied with taste, etc. For $10, the large pizza is generally a steal compared to local Chicago pizza places. However, at this location they consistently undercook the pizza which leaves the under crust slightly inedible, and everything on top not quite ready for consumption. The system must move the pizza through the conveyor belt quicker at this location or the oven temperature is lower. In any case, the pizza is consistently undercooked. A typical Costco is 4-stars and up. Gas station at this location which is always convenient. read more

Also, their chicken noodle soup from the deli is cheap as heck for 4 lbs at $10 a package, made from their in house rotisserie chicken. My girlfriend went to the tire center at this location this last Sunday at 1030 am. Shortly after, she paid for 4 michelin tires and was told to wait. 5 hours later she called me in tears, no updates or anything from the staff there. I called and spoke to the store manager who was very nice and understanding. He went and spoke with her, and after another hour the car was finally done. As she was driving home the low pressure light came on, she parked and what do you think...one of the tires was low on air and appeared partially flat. She drove back the next day after work, spent another hour waiting. They topped off the tire with air...and amazingly the low pressure light went off!! . I would definitely think twice about going to the Ashland Costco tire center. What a terrible experience there!! read more

The location is the same as any other Costco except the manager is a dick. My fiancé got her car towed from their parking lot while we were shopping. The reason being we stopped across the street for 5 minutes(literal 5 minutes) before going into Costco to pick up what we forgot on our trip 2 days prior. Even though it doesn't say on any sign that you can't step off the property even if you're shopping at Costco or you'll get towed, I get why it happened. The issue was that the manager Kenny was just being a hugely unhelpful, confrontational dick about it when we were asking for help. I'm sitting there holding my purchase, asking if there's anything he can do to help, and he's acting like he couldn't care less. Everyone else(from the guy collecting the carts, security, and the guy that told us our car was towed) was at least nice about it. Kenny seemed to be getting half a chub telling me I was shit out of luck. This was confirmed as we were waiting for our Uber, when Kenny came out to have a laugh and talk shit about us to the guys outside, not knowing we were seated 15 feet away? Really Kenny? Did sticking it to a customer get you off so much you couldn't wait to talk shit about us in the back room? Yes, we're "stuck here now", congrats! Give yourself a raise. Costco's products and prices are still unmatched, but this was just an extremely shitty customer experience. I worked in retail for 5 years and people who get off on sticking it to the customer shouldn't be in positions of power. Probably my preferred Costco location in Chicago solely on the size of the parking lot. I've never had to worry about looking for a spot when coming to this location. Aside from that, this is your typical wholesale Costco where you can grab just about anything from electronics, tvs, clothing, appliances, grocery shopping in bulk, stock up on household goods, etc etc. This location does have a Costco Gas Station as well which is convenient as well and the usual Costco food court inside as well serving all of your favorites from pizza by the slice to hot dogs and chicken bakes. I think the only thing that annoyed me was how chaotic and understaffed the food court was. Definitely they were struggling to keep up with supply and demand. Anyways, that's all I got on this one. The items selected are usually of very good quality. This store is average in terms of time selection. Some Costco stores in richer areas have more nicer items. This one is moderate in terms of item quality. While the immediate area is lower ses, I'm surprised as it draws from all over Chicago. The gas is always of good quality and inexpensive. The instructions for finding tires appropriate to my car were easy to follow, and deals and stock were clearly marked. After purchasing, I was able to schedule an appointment for installation. This is a review of Costco bakery cakes. I ordered two cakes for my recent 20th anniversary/wedding celebration. One was chocolate with chocolate frosting and flowers. The other was white cake with filling and buttercream. I got a ton of compliments on the food that day but especially the cakes. People kept asking where they came from and I was happy to say Costco. My only issue is that to order cakes you have to go into the store and fill out an order form. They have cakes available on hand for those who don't have an opportunity to order, but it would be really nice if one could order them online. read more

I bought a membership for the gasoline and the store. I went yesterday, and as expected, waited 18 minutes to get gasoline. It's up to you if your life is worth 18 each time to get gasoline, I'm guessing this was what the 70's gasoline crisis was like. Anyway, there were two issues, besides the wait because that was expected. First I'm not going to waste 18 minutes of gasoline so I shut my car off and waited. Obviously you can't run someone over to use the pump. The employee comes over and says that I'm holding up the line while the pumps are currently in use. Is there an open pump that is hidden? No --- Second, the guy in front of me was not a Costco member. The Costco employee walks past and the driver of the other car made no attempt to go for his wallet to show his ID so that the worker can look up if he is a real member. He just said "let me use your card," and the same worker did so. This was basically the same thing that happens at the Jewel checkout. Alright then why did I buy a membership? Stay away! This is the worst Costco ever! I have had customer service issues with this place for a while. For example last month I returned a MacBook. This returned took forever. The customer service representative for some reason assumed I that was trying to defraud the company. I had to call costco.com for assistance. They end up calling the store to sort everything out. This review is ONLY for Envision Eye Care @Costco on 1430 S Ashland Ave. Due to pandemic, by appointments only. Over the phone, I am told that they accept our VSP insurance. Scheduled 3 appointments back to back for my family. After my son and husband's eye exams, I made it in for my appointment. I was curious and asked how much our copay would be while waiting for my turn. Then, I was told we are out of network which now my husband and son have to pay a combined $118 for their eye exams. I asked her why she didn't tell my husband before providing service. Her lame answer was because she didn't check his insurance until he was here. Mind you, she wasn't going to tell me anything either until I ask. So I canceled my appointment, pay the $118 and left unhappy. No practice should do business this way. Shame on them! read more

Not my first time here and will keep coming back, the store is usually crowded on the weekend, that's why I try to stop by during the week but sometimes I just can't help it and stop by on the weekend. On this last visit I got what I wanted and found new products of my interest. The parking lot is big so plenty of parking for everyone. I like that they do have a a gas station there as well. I do not have any complaints about the place, overall is a good place to stop by. On this last visit I talked to Paul in the electronics area and he was nice and courteous to let me know about the TV's and the difference between them. Also the warranty they offer and how it works. We save a lot of money for our back and front yard. There is a lot of soil and mud all around our place and we want to plant some grass on it. So I decided to come here and bought a sack of seeds. I came here yesterday since I have no work and that is the day that I'm free and not busy. I came with Adam, our worker and helper, to help me in buying the materials. He also grabbed one cart and we went to the section. We bought 4 sacks of grass seed. It was heavy and we put it in one cart. Aside from that we also bought tools and fertilizer and put it in another cart. We bought everything we needed thanks to this grocery store. I highly recommend this place. read more

This is our go-to Costco location, we've never had a bad experience here. We usually go on Sundays. It can get very crowded and have long lines in the afternoon on Sundays, but it's still fine to get your shopping done for the fortnight. The cashiers are friendly, they are quick and prompt so that's definitely a plus. I'm very happy that this Costco started to carry some new items, such as Chinese sausage and kombucha. Being able to get a 6 pack of Devita Pineapple Peach kombucha for $11.99 is a steal! I recently got a PM from someone questioning how I can have so many check-ins here, and if I worked at Costco and checking in at work isn't fair. Well I don't work here, maybe I should, do these folks get a discount. Well if you do the math, my check-ins to date put me at 5.25 visits per month since they opened. Yup, I'm missing some check ins because many time I'm here at least 3 times a week. I like to check in just to keep track of how much money I have to be spending here. I didn't think anyone would even notice. Why am I here so much, well Costco rocks, I also happen to be a business owner, so in addition to my personal shopping I buy for business. We're a retail shop, so there's staff and customer's, talk about toilet paper, coffee, creamer, coffee cups, and cleaning supplies, these items get purchased several times a month. Then personally, I run in and out for stuff, last week a ceaser salad, and some Fage yogurt, then another day some decongestant for my husband. The great thing about this location is that it's not as crowded as the one on Clybourn, so you don't need to come here to do a big list, I stop in for a few items too, because why pay 7$ for one decongestant at Walgreen's while you can get three of them for just under 9$, so making it over to Costco is worth it. Plus everything is bigger too. I have one trip scheduled for this week, maybe tomorrow as I was going to go over the weekend and didn't make it, then maybe again later this week for dinner stuff. GHOSTCO TOWN! I really should not be telling you this but this Costco is empty and I love it. That Clybourn location is so crowded it is enough to drive you batty! Here at Ghostco Town no one is trying to climb over you for samples. In fact, the workers come up to your cart with the samples on a tray. I love it but I also know not to get use to it. I am sure my review is going to send my Yelping Sample Seeking Bulk Buying Friends in bus loads here. Why am I sharing all of this great information? I do not know. I must be crazy. This location has everything you would come to expect from a Costco. If you're a member you already know about the fantastic savings by buying in bulk. Everyone needs 10 pounds of shredded cheese, 5 pounds of bacon and 7.5 dozen eggs. What if your old college buddies show up for the weekend? You will have them covered. Also make sure you buy some alcohol too. Your college buddies are going to probably start drinking all your good liquor. Buy them a couple of bottles of the Kirkland Vodka and Tequila. It's much better then that plastic bottle stuff they drank during the undergrad years. They might even be surprised at how good it is. Now that your college buddies are taken care of it is time to check out those TVs. Wow have they gotten big and cheap! There is a 65 inch for only $1600. Are you kidding me? My Sony Bravia cost me way more about 4 years ago. It's time for an upgrade for me! They also have gas here too. No not that kind of gas. The gasoline for your car. The prices are some of the best in the city. Plus use your Costco American Express card and get 3% back. It's like there giving it to me for free. Okay not really but every little bit helps. Please don't come here. I like it being empty. I can get my photos and ink cartridge filled before I'm even done shopping. I just felt like sharing.
