I went in to get some fresh produce and one of the male employees was coughing all over the leafy greens, so I skipped those, kept my distance and went to the apples. While choosing a fruit he came up right beside me and starting coughing so much I thought he was going to puke. Now, two days later I am coughing. Great job spreading illness everyone! read more

Despite carrying a lot of great merchandise, including hard to find stuff, two major and consistent problems with the store keep me from going back. First is the staff: I've been charged the full price on sale items a number of times, and despite my knowing the price, a manager slow walks to the aisle to check, stink eye at me until I've left the store. I'm always right-- I remember numbers-- but it's the store's job to keep track of all their merchandise and prices. Even though they'll correct the prices for me, everybody else is being overcharged. Second is their stocking methods: half the time, many of the aisles are packed with merchandise waiting to be shelved. It's annoying and dangerous, not to mention damaging to the frozen foods thawing on the floor. I've tripped on their piles of boxes more than once. Tl;dr: overcharges fixed begrudgingly, stock on the floors all over. read more

On my recent trip to Chicago in July, I stayed at a hotel downtown. After 3 days and 8 restaurants, I needed to get back on track with my diet. Along that vein, I found organic, fresh fruit, yogurt, raisins, nuts, fresh salads, homemade sandwiches & more at Fresh Thyme supermarket. Man, was I impressed! First, I loved the layout - with one 360-degree glance, you can see everything around you. Fresh Thyme did a great job on its store layout. It's open and you don't feel like the aisles are closing in on you. The best part is that the chill drink I need as a daily fix - Kickback pure fruit juices with CBD - was at the front of the store, waiting for me! Thanks, Fresh Thyme. I have been wanting to try Fresh Thyme for a million years, mainly because my buddy Maronda posted a photo of their honey stix! They looked so magical in a million flavors, plus the shop isn't far from my house. I finally got my booty there to give them a go last night. I'm not too sure what I went in expecting but was surprised it was a bit more pricey than I expected. It's more akin to a Whole Foods-esque market than something with more big box, cheap prices. The store is incredibly clean and well organized, not very large in size. Despite slightly higher prices, the items they carried were quality. All of the produce & veggies looked fresh, including the bits I bought. They had interesting selections I hadn't seen before and I was impressed that a store not very big in size had a nice array of Asian items for sale. I'm happy to report the main thing that drew me in - honey stix - were the bomb! They had a whole station of a million different flavors to pick from. I'm currently sipping on some tea with a chocolate honey stick. Mmm hmm! I also bought caramel, clover blossom, root beer, cinnamon, sour strawberry and blackberry. 4 for $1 ftw! Plus you can fill in your own honey, too. The station was a bit sticky but very cool. Due to the prices, unfortunately Fresh Thyme hasn't shot up to being my favorite market - I'm a bargain gal! Pre-COVID, I would've given this place 4-4.5 stars. I went pretty regularly and was pleased with their selection of store brand and bulk items. The produce and deli selections weren't my favorite, but serviceable. In the heart of COVID, this place stresses me out. Today was the second and probably last time I will shop here for a long time. Both times, the store felt overcrowded with bottlenecks everywhere and people not respecting distancing at all. On my first visit, there was a note that they were limiting shoppers; it's unclear how exactly they are doing that since there's no one counting capacity. The store isn't huge, which isn't their fault, but it does mean the aisles aren't very wide, compounding the problem. Line management is non-existent; there are markings on the floor so people don't get too close yet the line was trailing down a single aisle, again causing confusion and bottlenecks. They do have wipes for carts, but they're almost hidden away at the entrance; I didn't even see them until I left the first time. Bottom line, I really like the products they stock, but it's not worth the anxiety I feel shopping here these days. I'm averaging it out to 3 stars, but in the current environment, it's more like a 2-star shopping experience for me. read more

I was treated horribly by the lady in health and wellness yesterday, November 3rd. She was rude, short, wouldn't make eye contact and waved me over to where, I may find things. She kept stocking, instead of helping me. At one point, in kid question, She walked away, She came back with another male employee to gossip loudly in the isle about another employee. Unbelievable. This is my 2nd bad experience at the Elston location. I complained both times. I also let the manager know, I was not going to purchase those items in my cart. I've been shopping at F&T on Elston for 2 years. I spend alot of money, especially in health and wellness. No one should have items tossed at them when checking out, or made to feel like a problem, when needing help. I'd rather spend the $200 where my business is appreciated. read more

This will now be one of my places to come and grocery shop. Yesterday was my first time shopping here. This place is set up so nice.. The staff is friendly and attentive. The music that is played through the store is amazing. There were customer singing and dancing to the beat of the music. What a way to grocery shop? LOL. There are barriers around the store with candy and other items where you can walk around and get taste sample of each item for free. The produce section looks so fresh. When you walk in there is a sushi chef, salad bar, soup bar, deli all types of goodies to catch your eye. The prices are not that bad either for organic and regular items. They even have a section that has different flavors of honey sticks. I don't even like honey but honey let me tell you the sour watermelon and sour apple are the bomb. You can buy 4 for $1.00. Word is that Wednesday's are Double Ad day where you can save anymore by combining 2 Wednesday's sale with the other one. I will be back to see if they can maintain the 4 Star Rating. Every time I come here they have what i need and the staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are right. And they have plenty of organic products. I've also tried their juices that actually made in store and they are good. Green juice or the beet juice.. They also have a kitchen where you can buy food that is ready to be eaten so feel free to grab some food and eat it right outside the cahiers area. Will keep coming back. Plenty of parking and you have go around in your cart and your little one can also go around in their smaller shopping carts. read more

I've been wanting to check out this place and finally made it. They are small like a Trader Joe's. Their meat, deli and seafood counter are small with not a lot of offerings compared to the larger grocery stores. As other yelpers stated some of the items are a bit higher. But what they offer and the friendly staff makes up for that. They have a natural oven roasted turkey that tastes just like a turkey breast served at Thanksgiving. Over all I would shop again but only when in the area. read more

I love this place so much that I haven't even left the parking lot to write this review! Everything is so neat, clean and the employees are so friendly. I love that they have a wide variety of items and clearly marked whether it is gluten free. Additionally, their dried fruit, nuts, granola, coffee bar area is INSANE. I thought I was impressed with Pete's Fresh market on Western but this place takes the cake. I mean where else can you find key lime yogurt covered pretzels?! I was walking around for over an hour. The first employee I met was stocking ice cream. An hour later, I sheepishly walked past him to get more yogurt and he recognized me. Yep, I'm still here! Aside from free samples throughout the store, they begged for me to take more free granola bars when I was done checking out. UH, you want me to take more free samples?! Don't need to ask me twice! "Fresh Thyme Farmers Market" is a Midwestern regional supermarket chain, with this one being the only location within the Chicago city limits. While it has a large parking lot for customers, one can access via CTA #50 (Damen), #74 (Fullerton), or #76 (Diversey) busses since Elston is designed to be a biker-friendly road and no bus is running on it. Perhaps I went during the off-peak hours, the store was free from all the hustle and bustle. I immediately spotted the "olive bar." OMG! Why am I a sucker for olives? I'm SO coming back for these olives, even if they aren't that cheap ($6.99/lb.). They have a nice selection of prepared foods, and there's an indoor dining room and an outdoor patio available for patrons. Personally I wouldn't utilize this place as my "go-to" for fruit and vegetables. Such categories in most Hispanic supermarkets in the city are offered at much lower prices. However, fresh produces on sale featuring in their weekly ad are worth to take a peek. Their seafood department appeared sanitary and the quality seemed to be decent. Shopping at Fresh Thyme today was a pleasant, relaxing experience for me. I will be stop by and grab some groceries on the way home if I ever pass through this part of town. read more

Fresh Thyme Farmers Market is found in Central US (in states that include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Ohio, Nebraska, etc), so this place is new to me (as I am from California). My husband and I came by this market this early evening looking for a salad and a few other snacks during our visit to Chicago. As we had driven pass this market earlier today, it automatically reminded me of the market I shop at by my home, Sprouts. So when we came in today, it confirmed that guess. The layout of the store seems to be the same and the type of food items seem to also be similar as well. But I felt that some of the departments were lacking, that included the frozen dessert section and snack sections (cookies, crackers, etc). Prices were pretty high, even the sales items as well (yes, even pricier than my familiar market back at home). But I do like this market and thought the sales prices on the berries were pretty affordable and would probably shop here often if I lived out here. The employee who rang us up was friendly. I also liked that there is a monitor that shows the items that is rang up (with price). Often times I have been overcharged for an item or an item was rang up twice without my knowledge until after I get back home and unpack my groceries. I wished all markets would have this computer monitor at the check out. I also appreciate that my groceries were double bagged as well (I hate it when a full bag starts to rip as I am walking to my car). By the way, there is a large parking lot, so parking shouldn't be a problem. read more

I shop at Fresh Thyme at least once a week. The stores are limited in size for easy shopping and the selection and quality is excellent. A word of caution! Check your receipt for over-charges. Quite often sale items are charged at the regular price and BOGOs do not ring up correctly. If it were not for the pricing mistakes I would have given 4 maybe 5 stars. read more

I stopped in on my way out of Michael's next door, and was pleasantly surprised by the produce selection. I continued browsing the store, and found their meat/deli departments to be subpar. The steaks and fish looked old after careful observation, and the colors looked worse. To the contrary, the produce and bread departments were attractive. I always appreciate a fresh loaf of bread, and picked up Fresh Thyme Bakery's "Olive Bread" and "Walnut and raison bread". Both were EXCELLENT. Wow! This is the market I wish all markets would be like. Very laid back unpretentious down to earth vibe. Prices were very reasonable even for organic produce. There are juice samples and a good salad bar. I think there are special sales on Wednesdays. Good service. There's a great bulk section. The fresh juices are so refreshing. They have free fruit and organic goodies for kids. Please open more Fresh Thyme markets in other states! You can take the bus and walk. Used to be my go-to store the first few years the market opened but after having not been there for 2 years I was shocked to find the store in utter disarray. It was crammed to the gills with so much stuff it was hard to focus. The narrow aisles didn't help as it's hard to go down it with a cart while the shelves were being restocked. I had been going there but last week I had it. I am disgusted with the lack of help and nasty customer service in the deli. I waited over 6 minutes to be waited on while the two women working there were chit chatting. This is an ongoing problem. Then the waited on someone who came after me. I went to the seafood department on the day of the new circular and the sold cart fulls of the sale shrimp and scallops to restaurants leaving none for the customers. They blamed the customers for complaining about the limits they used to use. What a joke the guy knew exactly what restaurants bought them all. This Fresh Thyme used to be our go-to but it has recently gone downhill for whatever reason. The attendants at the butcher counter are not friendly and I recently got fresh shrimp that had a dead fly in it! I am not sure what is going on but I hope it gets better as we are limited with grocery stores in Logan. read more

We've repeatedly had issues with not so fresh products from here. Deli items and produce has tasted off or gone bad within 24 hours of bringing it home. I've brought back spoiled food with my receipt on serveral ocassions and I've also shown the produce person while shopping in store rotten lemons that were wet and slimey from being spoiled, piles of potatoes that were all green from being old, and bags of veggies/salads that were past their expiration date and visibly looked way past their prime. I took time out to call the manager after our last trip there with another batch of spoiled food and wasted money. He said he's never heard of these issues before and this has never happened before and everyone else thinks their food is really fresh. That's annoying because I sure have mentioned it to other managers/store clerks on many occasions and I know other neighbors and friends have had the same issues. So either you aren't getting customer concerns within your own store (because I know I've personally mentioned it on several occasions over the course of a few months) or you're just not that interested in fixing a huge problem within your produce and deli section. It's a more expensive store and I expect the food to be pristine for the extra money. It's not always "Fresh" as their name implies. read more

Just be careful here in general, fyi, as their bulk bins have grain moths. Those little fluttery things you see limping around in the air? Yeah, grain moths. And damn those buggers are a Pain in the Rear End (and expensive in the amount of food you have to toss) to get rid of once they get into your pantry and spread into all of your stuff. And spread they do. And if you think you're safe by avoiding the bulk bins, you're sorely mistaken. These idiots lay their eggs on anything. If grocery shopping was an olympic sport, I'd certainly qualify for a gold medal. While others may consider it a chore, I consider it a form of relaxation. I love to plan meals and shop for ingredients, and as much as possible I like to incorporate seasonal items. I typically grocery shop at least two or three times a week, mostly because I can only plan meals for that many days at a time. There's no way I would know on Sunday what I want to eat on Friday, so that means I'm always shopping for only a few meals at a time. And other times, I have no plan in mind and I come to the grocery store for inspiration. Things I really like about Fresh Thyme: Bulk foods - huge variety of nuts, seeds, candies, grains, oats, spices, etc. You can buy just what you need. I love that I can buy just enough pine nuts for pesto without buying an entire bag. Produce - nice variety, and the sales are good. They always seem to have ripe avocados (and they're cheap to boot), so I can make guacamole at a moment's notice. Freshly ground peanut butter--actually they have almost any nut butter you could want. I'm allergic to all nuts (but not peanuts) and theirs is delicious. It's nice to eat a peanut butter that doesn't have any sugar like supermarket brands. Olive oil / Vinegar - you can fill bottles from their tap. It didn't look to be the highest quality olive oil, but maybe I'm just an olive oil snob. Friendly staff - they always ask if I need help finding anything, and they all seem to like working here. (We'll see if that changes once they've been open awhile.) I can't do all of my grocery shopping here, but Fresh Thyme is a great place to incorporate into my rotation, especially for certain specialty items. Those are worth going here to get. read more

Mostly good. Always have good produce. Love their chicken sausages and fjord trout. Unfortunately the employees aren't big on mask compliance. Only real complaint is that one of the butchers always has his mask under his chin, both in the back butchering and up front serving. Usually texting at the same time. Each time I try to mention that the butcher isn't wearing his mask and then the next time I return he's still there without the mask on. Butcher items spoil crazy fast, too. Everyone else-no complaints. And the guy doesn't need to get in trouble-just make him wear the freaking mask. read more

This could become my new go to supermarket. We entered to find out it was Customer Appreciation Day - yay! Free coffee and solid food samplings throughout the store. Large space with no crowding. Excellent bulk section and tons of vegetarian options especially in their frozen food section. Good sales on already reasonably priced produce section. A head of cauliflower was 99 cents - what a deal! We spent a lot of time perusing the aisles and found a wide selection of items including brand favorites like Boulder chips, Local Foods mustard, and Jeni's ice cream. I would agree with other assessments of a cheaper Whole Foods. read more

I came here to do my weekly grocery shopping as I was out with a friend who had to take care of some business elsewhere and they were kind enough to drive me home during our artic chill. As Colleen C. commented, Fresh Thyme is like a combo Whole Foods/Mariano's of which I am a fan of the former, but not the latter. I thought this was a good store. Some of the pricing was better than their competitors and some was comparable. The employees were nice and helpful. However, there are two issues that keep me from awarding the 5th star: I noticed that some pre-bagged apples had some that had already started showing the signs of going bad and some loose vine ripened tomatoes were showing the same. Update: The bag of organic oranges I bought for $5.99 had an orange that was starting to mildew. Inspect the produce very carefully here because it is very clear to me that those working with the produce do not. The store manager really needs to have a sit down with the Produce Manager and the staff. While looking at the Greek yogurts I noticed that the sell by/expiration dates were a week and a half away. Normally I would find yogurt dates to be in the 3 to 4 week range. Fine if you eat one every day, but if you are like me I buy several and expect to be able to use the over a longer period of time. Other than those issues it is a good place. However, as mentioned above, the Produce Manager really needs to have the staff weed out the unappealing produce. If I find myself back in this area and needing to grocery shop I would return, however this store is not in any way shape or form remotely convenient for me, but for those who live close by this is a good alternative to the nearby Jewel. read more

This grocery store has positive and negative aspects in regards to the products, service, and atmosphere. Positives: -The size of the store is very manageable. They fit quite a bit of food items into a medium sized grocery store -There is plenty of parking spots if you are driving to the store -They have olive oil, and some other oils on tap which is neat -I feel like the prices on almost everything is in line with most grocery stores in the area - Decent selection of organic and non organic produce is available - The staff is always willing to help, and the check out process goes fast -The grocery store offers pre cooked options you can take home to eat Negatives: -I've had two bad experiences with their meat and fish. The first time, I bought a big piece of fresh cod and the next evening when I was going to cook it, it smelled horrible and was slimy. I know it's more ideal to cook fresh fish the same day as it is purchased, but it has never been an issue with fresh fish from other stores. I had to throw out the piece of cod. -I bought one of their stuffed chicken breasts and before I cooked it, it smelled ok. When my boyfriend and I ate our pieces, it tasted sour and we threw most of it away. Overall take: This grocery store is a safe place to buy most items, but the meat/seafood is "questionable". I prefer to purchase all of my groceries at one place, and I've had to stop shopping here due to the freshness/taste of their meat and seafood. read more

I usually instacart from here when I want to get crablegs bc their prices are reasonable ~$22/lb but they don't always have them in stock so its best to call if your planning a specific meal. Its a small store so the selection and stock can be limited (last time I ordered, I had to get replacements for a ton of stuff). I actually went in this weekend bc we were hosting a going away dinner and I wanted to do a nice sit down meal. I specifically came here bc they had sushi-grade ahi tuna at $14.99/lb which is a fantastic price and it was a beautiful pink-red color without many white lines/tendons. I also got cod filets for 8 ppl and I think that was $7.99/lb. We got a bunch of other stuff and it was still under $100 which surprised me. So basically their seafood counter is 5 stars but the fact that we usually have to go to Jewel or Marianos to get whatever we couldn't get there adds an inconvenience factor but the prices are hard to beat so we'll def keep it in the rotation. read more

This is the greatest grocery store in the world. The staff is amazing, the selection is top notch, and it's always clean and well arranged. We've moved farther away and we still drive almost 30 mins to get here. It's worth a commute. I also love that the staff here is so great and personal---they were excited throughout my entire pregnancy (one day the cashier said "only 12 days left until you're due, right?") and they always say "hi" to my daughter by name.
