I have only been inside Aldi once since I have lived in Chicago. I'd never heard of them before since they aren't on the west coast, but I know they're popular here and in Europe... but I could never get into them. I was also put off by the deposit required for carts, since I don't usually carry cash and stuff. It didn't help that the one I went to was kinda dirty and gross. Anyway, this store has been here for what, a decade? Something close at least since I remember when it was under construction. Today I went in because a friend tipped me off to one of their special Aldi deals that she thought my little one would like. They didn't have the item (though she schooled me in the Aldi ways and customs, so now I know I actually have to go tomorrow to see if they have the dress-up princess shoes I'm looking to buy and put away for a few years. The store was really clean and modern-looking, unlike the one that I went to many years ago. It looked bougie, even. I didn't have much of a chance to look around because I was on my lunch break and was lugging around a sleeping baby in a car seat, but I would be interested in taking a look around sometime. Or possibly more accurately, using their app because they do curbside pickup. That surprised me; I'm used to budget grocery stores (my mom has worked at Grocery Outlet for more than 20 years) and since these type of stores have rotating merchandise, they're not always keen to do something like curbside with items so in flux. But Aldi's going to save me a few bucks AND not make me actually go in and grocery shop, one of my least favorite activities? Ok, you've gained a customer.

Great options are always available. They have the best prices on what I call staples... aluminum foil, kitchen garbage bags, canned tomatoes, dish soap, paper plates, kleenex, etc.  Super low prices on baking ingredients... chopped walnuts, butter, chocolate chips, oatmeal, flour and sugar. Most of their products are Aldi private label, and the quality is always good. They have some national brands, usually cheaper than anywhere else. Some organic fruit, vegetables and meat. Great selection of cheese and humus. Gluten-free bakery goods. And lots of frozen food. Of course there's a downside, and that's a limited selection. Aldi doesn't carry ten brands of chicken broth and 25 flavors of ice cream. But if you're on a budget, or just don't like to overpay for groceries, you could probably buy almost everything you need right here. My cashier today was super friendly! He was just putting everyone in a great mood. Thank you! I knew what I was getting before going in, and was out of there in 12 minutes. Pretty good for being on lunch, still had time to get food across the street.

This is going to be short and sit. This store was recently renovated and they did an amazing job. It has an upscale feel to it....sort of like the baby brother of Marino's. The aisles are nice and wide to get the ginormous carts through. They had a nice selection of organic produce if you are into that. As a chemist, everything is organic since it is carbon-hydrogen based :-) This location also has alcohol. There was some 312 Goose Island there and they also have a nice DOC prosecco that I like for $8.99. Good selection of fresh produce and meats. Aldi's is definitely stepping up its game at this location. In general this has always been a go to store for me, especially for parties, as a dollar goes a long way. People always look at me like I am crazy for shopping here because it is supposed to be a "poor" person's store. Don't buy into the hype. Aldi's has some great cheeses, pate, sausages, etc. to rock your world.

boneless, skinless chicken breasts are only $2.49 per lb.

Need a shopping cart for some weekend festivities? See my guy, Omar, at register 1. He'll hook you up.

It is within walking distance, which is a plus, though I do watch the prices and go to Mariano's or Jewel when they offer more for less. EVERYONE at the meat/cheese counter is great, and friendly. They really do know their stuff, though at times, I wish they had a ticketed numbered system. It would prevent me from going off on some of the older Eastern Euro clientele when they try to butt in line. NOT happening! The cashiers are efficient, though there is a tall male one that is new to me. Feels like his name should be Draco. Would almost pass for AI, due to his height an personality, though AI can be programmed to be charming and efficient. He literally saw me put down items on the belt and looked like he was confused as to what his role was, then asked me if I wanted a bag for all my purchases, despite it being obvious that I had none with me. I had to get snippy, because, well, I had to get snippy. Oprah did mention them in one of her shows, so they got "trendy" afterwards, but as other reviewers have said, they do carry items that you would find more at a Treasure Island than a Jewel, Aldi, or Mariano's. They are good for that. Now, if they would only work on their AI cashiers and make them more personable, then I would give them a five star rating. Especially since peeps in the hood voted down Amazon from taking over and planting seeds on the corner of Western and Lawrence, to take over the grocery store market.

It's a pretty standard small grocery store, with a few things that may be hard to find elsewhere. They have some international brands, although the Mexican grocery store farther west on Lawrence (Lindo Michigan) is a better bet for Central American things. They sell some local brands, including freshly-roasted coffee from Brü Coffeeworks, also on Lawrence. Prices are a smidge higher than you might find elsewhere, but at least they're consistent and don't require you to download an app or join a frequent shopper club or whatever. I do wish they would stay open a little later. The staff are helpful, and they have a good selection of spices and seasonings. I wasn't able to find caraway seed elsewhere, for some reason, but when I asked a staff member if they had any, he immediately took me to the exact spot on the shelf where they had it in two different container sizes.

Jerry's is still a gem of a produce store. They still maintain overall the cheapest produce you can find anywhere, and carry some unique produce you might not be able to find at other grocery stores. They also carry a decent variety of breads and pitas, desserts, and canned goods. The good value does come with a price though, as most of the time you'll be battling crowds of people while inside the store. Over the last decade I've definitely learned the times to avoid: Weekends and Wednesdays. Wednesdays I think they might have some sort of senior discount but it's also when they rotate their produce deals and the new weekly specials start. Though they have ample parking in the lots north and south of the store and along Milwaukee, during peak times it will be PACKED. I say avoid by going when they open or even after dinner as they're open pretty late. I find Mondays and Tuesdays to be a little less packed usually. Also, usually they have an entrance facing both North and South but the past few years during the winter time they've only had the South entrance open, I imagine to protect from the cold.

The wife says we came here once before many years ago but I don't remember it.  They've been at it here for 53 years since 1972. Normally, we avoid it due to the madhouse scene that is usually here (like when traffic can't even enter the parking lot from busy Milwaukee Ave because the parking lot is overflowing lol).  Well, it was -3F on a frigid Friday night and we were across Milwaukee Ave at the Jewel, and it was eerily quiet in Jewel, and we thought it was as good a time as any to also visit Jerry's lol. Well, it was relatively calm, and we found a close by parking spot, but there were still plenty of shoppers in Jerry's.  Their inventory is huge and truly impressive as are their prices.  No wonder this place is so super popular.  We picked up some cherries for $2.49 per lb and strawberries at a promo price of $0.79 per 1 lb container.  I would say 4.5 stars for our visit tonight, but really on their normal super-crowded shopping basis, I would still say 3 stars overall.  I don't personally think the hassle factor of shopping here for fruits and vegetables is worth it for the savings and the variety of offerings, thus the 2 star deduct.  But you have to decide for yourself, and apparently for many others, Jerry's is well worth the trip, and kudos to Jerry's for that and continued good luck and success to them.

The manager here wanted to save what $15 so another staff member could be stocking a shelf? Crazy. Absolutely insane. This store is pretty decent overall, but the levels of disrespect this shows for your own staff and your community is just unreal. Whoever staffed the store that night should be deeply ashamed of themselves. The stockholders are gonna be ok. Put a working staff member on registers at all times period. What if someone got injured? The self checkout here has a TINY spot to put your bag. Move the bag a bit and the scale freaks out. I can think of endless reasons for a cashier to be working at all times. Think of members of your community who need help if you run a FOOD STORE. Think of ways to improve your business rather than screwing customers. What about people who are neurodivergent and have disabilities? All to save like $100 a week. I bet they pull cashiers every night that last hour. What an F you to the people you sell to. TLDR: 9:30pm and NO cashier working a register.
