One star only because the first shift AM cashiers are uniformly cheerful and pleasant. Not so much for later in the day. This store has removed its self-checkout option, and it's not worth my time to shop here UNLESS I come at the moment when the store opens, quickly gather my handful of items, and make my way to the cash register without delay. The coolers which run the entire length of the east side of the store (which hold kombucha, hummus, cheeses, lunch meats, etc) are unlit so you should plan to bring a flashlight. The store is kind of a dump, TBH. Pro tip: ALDI on Oakton in Skokie still has self-checkout AND is adjacent to the bike trail (Sauganash/Lincolnwood Valley Line/Skokie Valley) and across Oakton Street from CTA's Yellow Line Station. I'm a cyclist so I try to head up there when I need an ALDI refresh. But I avoid the Montrose store. read more

Weekly Aldi run done at different store. I knew that they were going to have an item this week that I wanted. The cooler basket makes my grocery shopping so easy. These are seasonal items and don't come every year. I already had two baskets but three would be even better. Was able to grab a new green cooler basket to add to my avocado and black baskets. Overall this was a good Aldi. I liked the self-checkout option. The Aldi finds aisle was plentiful. The produce was good. I found the meat section to be lacking. No shrimp, not a lot of chicken or salmon options. I don't usually come to this store but I had an errand in the area. The parking lot was nice. Tip: bring your quarter for a cart read more

Love this Aldi! A parking lot is always appreciated in the city, and this one is no exception. Everything is always orderly thanks to the quarter/cart set up. The prices at Aldi are just too good! Some of my favorites things to grab are the take and bake breads, baby food pouches, fresh cheeses for charcuterie, and produce. We even got a pop up tent here so we have a shady spot to hangout with the baby down by the lake, which has been great! The only reason I'm knocking this Aldi's a star is because the middle aisles can get a little random/cluttered with weird stuff with no real rhyme or reason to the organization. But overall, this is a great spot and we make a point to come here a few times a month to stock up on staples at a great price. read more

I have only been inside Aldi once since I have lived in Chicago. I'd never heard of them before since they aren't on the west coast, but I know they're popular here and in Europe... but I could never get into them. I was also put off by the deposit required for carts, since I don't usually carry cash and stuff. It didn't help that the one I went to was kinda dirty and gross. Anyway, this store has been here for what, a decade? Something close at least since I remember when it was under construction. Today I went in because a friend tipped me off to one of their special Aldi deals that she thought my little one would like. They didn't have the item (though she schooled me in the Aldi ways and customs, so now I know I actually have to go tomorrow to see if they have the dress-up princess shoes I'm looking to buy and put away for a few years. The store was really clean and modern-looking, unlike the one that I went to many years ago. It looked bougie, even. I didn't have much of a chance to look around because I was on my lunch break and was lugging around a sleeping baby in a car seat, but I would be interested in taking a look around sometime. Or possibly more accurately, using their app because they do curbside pickup. That surprised me; I'm used to budget grocery stores (my mom has worked at Grocery Outlet for more than 20 years) and since these type of stores have rotating merchandise, they're not always keen to do something like curbside with items so in flux. But Aldi's going to save me a few bucks AND not make me actually go in and grocery shop, one of my least favorite activities? Ok, you've gained a customer. read more

Sometimes I get stressed because people are so excited to shop here. Fun fact: in the 1980's and 90's they were cash only! And ALWAYS closed on Sunday. I'm still on that schedule! Since the remodeling a few years back it's become a shopping Meccal!!I'm a supporter of groceries of Latin Amercan and Eastern European ownership , nearby, but not self check.But I do love how they customize the stock to local tastes( Lincoln Square has a lot of German fun stuff), I assume they do the same in other Aldis.and great deals on electronics ! read more

Great options are always available.They have the best prices on what I call staples... aluminum foil, kitchen garbage bags, canned tomatoes, dish soap, paper plates, kleenex, etc.  Super low prices on baking ingredients... chopped walnuts, butter, chocolate chips, oatmeal, flour and sugar. Most of their products are Aldi private label, and the quality is always good. They have some national brands, usually cheaper than anywhere else. Some organic fruit, vegetables and meat. Great selection of cheese and humus. Gluten-free bakery goods. And lots of frozen food. Of course there's a downside, and that's a limited selection. Aldi doesn't carry ten brands of chicken broth and 25 flavors of ice cream. But if you're on a budget, or just don't like to overpay for groceries, you could probably buy almost everything you need right here. My cashier today was super friendly! He was just putting everyone in a great mood. Thank you! I knew what I was getting before going in, and was out of there in 12 minutes. This is going to be short and sit. This store was recently renovated and they did an amazing job. It has an upscale feel to it....sort of like the baby brother of Marino's. The aisles are nice and wide to get the ginormous carts through. They had a nice selection of organic produce if you are into that. As a chemist, everything is organic since it is carbon-hydrogen based :-) This location also has alcohol. There was some 312 Goose Island there and they also have a nice DOC prosecco that I like for $8.99. Good selection of fresh produce and meats. Aldi's is definitely stepping up its game at this location. In general this has always been a go to store for me, especially for parties, as a dollar goes a long way. People always look at me like I am crazy for shopping here because it is supposed to be a "poor" person's store. Don't buy into the hype. Aldi's has some great cheeses, pate, sausages, etc. to rock your world. read more

I considered this the best Aldi in the city. I have been coming here since 2015. I always thought it is well managed and well staffed. People are always friendly here. In recent years, I started noticing they run out of stuff often most likely because they are always busy but never the less, not great when you can't find cucumber or salmon ... or even chicken thighs. Taking a star for that. Also taking star because they allow people with big non-service dog inside. Just gross to see dogs sniffing food and licking the edge of fridges. Y'all that is not sanitary and I don't care for dogs free of charge parasites. Just follow the health department direction and keep non-service dogs outside the store. read more

Shoutout to the cashier earlier, who tried telling me that the 8 cent "B-tax" the machine kept adding to my drink was the sales tax and not the bag tax. I couldn't get the self service machine to stop adding a bag tax, despite the fact I was just buying one drink with no bag. I mentioned it to the only employee in sight, who proceeded to tell me it was the sales tax, and then ignore me like I'm too stupid for my own good. Couldn't get help from the employees, so I just went to her register, and "coincidentally " didn't get charged any B-tax. Refusing to help a customer who's getting overcharged, even if it's only 8 cents, is a bad policy guys..... read more

I'm giving this five stars not because Aldi, in general, is a five star kind of place, but because this particular Aldi does not make me want to puke on my shoes. Seriously, the previous incarnation of this location was bad, even for an Aldi, and Aldi locations can be pretty bad. This is better. I know it's part of a chain-wide effort to class up the joint, and I know that each classed-up joint will soon fall apart, as these things always do. However for now, it's not at all nasty. They have the usual store brands masquerading as fancy brands, a few trendy items (including organic, gluten-free, and flavor-of-the-moment stuff), some brand names that are probably overstocks from other chains, and the usual hodge-podge of non-perishables, as well as some cheap wine. The produce area is much cleaner and nicer than most Aldis I've seen. As with all Aldi stores, BYO bags, or grab some cardboard boxes from the shelves. read more

I used to go grocery shopping here with my parents when I was a kid and really hated it. They didn't have hardly any of the popular brands. As a kid, brand recognition is everything especially amongst peers. I really never considered the value you get for the food. Flash forward 25 years and now I'm shopping there. Let me tell you, with the way food prices have gone up at the local grocery stores (Dominicks and Jewel) I'm SO thankful to have Aldi around. The quality of food they have there is exceptional. They do have some brands you would recognize but for the most part, they are generic Aldi brands. One thing to note, they do not accept credit cards. You have to either pay by cash or debit. You also have to pay for your own bags. read more

Where else can you get 4 pounds of assorted meat, 3 bags of frozen veggies, a dozen eggs, kleenex and dish soap for under $30? Not one single place. At least, nowhere else that I would want to go. The shelves are always a little messy and the check out line can be somewhat of a joke. Otherwise, I would 5 star the shit out of Aldi. ***Cash only. Bring your own bags. Shopping carts require you to leave a quarter deposit that you get back when you return your cart. This insures that all customers return their carts, as opposed to leaving them stranded in the parking lot. This location was recently remodeled but it still looks kind of small to me but you can find lots of neat stuff. I picked up some pie crusts and baked a couple apple pies and everyone kept asking me if I made the pie from scratch. Yes, I said, I scratched off the plastic wrap off the Aldi pie crust and then filled it with Aldi purchased Granny Smith apples. Just try Aldi out if you haven't already. Walk around. See what you can find that is worth the trip and how you can trick others into believing some treat is homemade when it isn't. read more

We love this Aldi. It's is one of the newer ones and is always clean and looks nice. The produce is great, affordable and lots of organic options! It is a busy store but parking or waiting in line is never an issue. We buy all our dairy, much of our meat, and we love the seasonal aisle with random rugs, mops, pans, and fun times! ALDI IS GETTING EXPENSIVE... I was shocked that an 18oz jar of peanut butter (theri brand) cost 1.99, a canister of raisins (their brand), which was 2.89ish now was 3.29 and a bag of 16 oz walnuts I had paid about $5 was now 6.29 - hey, what happened? Why the increases across the board? Are we paying for the remodeing? I used to go in and was assured that the prices were affordable and low - now, I am not at all sure that is the case! I am sure that many people feel that way - will they take a moment, like I did to cross check this, or will they ride their shopping spree on the memory of what once was? The people who work at Aldi - all of them - are superstars - Aldi is very-very lucky to have them. Cashiers, employees on the floor are all brilliant - they impress me every time. A quarter to borrow a shopping cart. All good as long as I get my quarter back! Though that day, I only had a plastic card to my name and no quarter, I opted to use the blue portable shopping basket. Sometimes I'm too lazy or cheap to fish out a quarter and later regret carrying what seems like 10 lbs of items all squeezed in a tiny shopping basket towards the check out line! --I know I'm not the only one who's done this! Across the street from Nick's Pizza and Pub, this grocery chain was renovated. Looks clean and very bright! Because of the wide aisles, I felt like the items were all crammed into the shelves and was harder for me to locate. Prices are visibly seen; I just have to remember to look up or down or to the sides of the item I was viewing. Aside from purchasing food, there's also a seasonal, home, small appliances, kids' items to buy! This location is the 2nd closest to where I live, so could be why I feel disoriented coming to this one! Cheap prices and good quality! read more

There's just something about Aldi that no other chain grocery store can compare to and has made me a true ALDIct... Is it that they don't ruin the planet by giving out countless plastic bags and advertise reusing shipping boxes or your own fabric bags? Is it the super duper reasonable prices? Is it that you don't have to dodge shopping carts in the parking lot because everyone wants their quarter back? Or that the customers actually have to talk to each other when exchanging a cart for a quarter? Is it that the store is always clean and organized? Heck I still can't figure out which one of these has the strongest contribution to Aldi's awesomeness...but look at some of these prices: -Tilapia White Fish 8-pack: $4.99 -Berry Oat Cereal: $2.39 (What?! Cereal under $3?!) -Pure Olive Oil: $3.69 (A bargain!) -Arizona Tea Cans: $.89 cents (Not even $.99 cents like the can advertises!) -Baby Carrots: $.99 cents a baggie (That's right...It feels great like in the old days when you could still buy something for a quarter.) Now for my biggest complaint. Some items are imported from China (Go figure!). It irks me a bit to eat my tilapia fillets because this is the country that uses toxic lead paint in infant toys, have extreme issues of chemical/antibiotic/disinfectant contamination, and still have sweat shops. Ah life goes on. Oh and Aldi always only has one employee at the cash register at any given time!! Arg! Yep, I'm reviewing another Aldi. Same awesome, inexpensive food as the others. But... this Aldi seems to get new products before a lot of the other locations. They had a TON of Fit 'N Active products at this location long before other locations had the same items, so I often make a trek here to find out what's new. The Fit 'N Active line is definitely awesome and really falls in line with a lot of other stores. Aldi is staring to carry a lot of reduced fat, fat-free, light, etc. items that attract people to stores like Jewel, but at a much lower price. This Aldi also seems to have a really nice selection of seasonal items that hasn't been picked through like other locations. Maybe I'm just always here near a delivery day or something, but I definitely find their selection to be a bit more robust than other stores. Nice, tidy store with friendly employees, too. You can't really beat that + awesomely low prices. Some tips: debit/Link card only and bring your own bags (or prepare to buy some!). read more

Honestly I'm tired of all the Whole Foods snobs looking down on Aldi's. Yes, Aldi's, I'm from Chicago. Aldi's, the Aldizzle, whatever, has been moving on up these past years. The introduction of their Light and Fit line sealed the deal for me in terms of using them as a grocery staple. A bag of frozen chicken breasts for about $6, salad dressings for under $2, olive oil is also a steal. I just bought a little carton of mushrooms for 49 CENTS on Monday. Seriously people, get on it! Their produce is pretty fresh. I wish they'd sell onions individually but that's more of a "me" problem as I live alone and could never finish the whole bag. No frills, no pretentious atmosphere, just awesomeness! read more

I visited the new, improved Aldi four days after opening -- NOT on the Grand Opening day. I'm not sure what Aldi wants to be -- a grocery store? Target? Wal-Mart? Or some combination of those? For me, at least, Aldi is nothing more than Okay. I fail to see why other people are so rapturous about this store. I want a grocery store. Aldi only partially meets my grocery needs. So far at least, the store is very clean and bright. Everything is organized and neat. No problems there. I visited on a weekday morning, so there were few people shopping, and hardly any cars in the parking lot. I keep to a vegan diet. You'd think that was no problem, right? You'd be wrong. Aldi is probably just fine for anyone who eats the Standard American Diet (SAD) of meat, cheese, dairy, snack food and carbonated beverages. What about Aldi's push for organics, you ask? That's nice, I say. But so much of the fruit and vegetable is packaged, so that you have to buy multiples. You can buy green peppers 3 to a package; that's it. There are two bunches of green onions in a package; you can't buy one bunch or three. Three jalapeno peppers only to a package; not one, or five. I find that frustrating. The store was only open a few days, but the bananas looked terrible. I liked that avocados cost $1.29 for each, and were displayed so you could buy one, three, or ten. They were a good size, too. Anywhere else, I see avocados starting at $1.50. My landlord, who's in his 80's, was complaining that Aldi used to sell avocados for $.49 each; well, I was 25 years old once, but we're not going to see that again either. I bought two pounds of dry pasta recently at the Edgewater Aldi's for $1.29 and thought that was a good deal. At this Aldi's, one pound of pasta was $1.00. I had to go to Mariano's afterwards for all the things Aldi didn't carry, and Mariano's was selling one pound of dry pasta for $.75. As a vegan, I do buy meat substitutes and fake cheese. I don't expect every store to have a big selection, other than Whole Foods, but Aldi had none. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Maybe that's because an entire aisle was devoted to non-grocery items. A bosu ball. A set of screws. Shower curtains. What the heck?? This is why I wonder, what kind of store does Aldi want to be? How about removing this stuff and adding more food items? Then you'd have room, Aldi, to carry common items available in every other grocery store in Chicago. The freezer case carries frozen meals imported from Germany. My landlord bought one. He was eating it when I visited. He said, it was dry, but he had it, so he was eating it. He didn't plan to buy another one of those entrees in the future. Bottom line: I'm unimpressed. All those who eat the SAD diet will probably love the meat and cheese selections. I won't go to Aldi again unless I need mass quantities of each single kind of vegetable or fruit. Or to stock up on avocadoes. I do like avocadoes. Even if they cost more than $.49 per pound. read more

Aldi's is well known for cheap prices on, primarily, their own in house brands. It's not your fine foods grocery store, but... A few years ago they introduced "Fit & Active" brand healthy foods. Aldi's would have been last on my list of places to find healthy foods, but recently finding out that it's not a bad place for it now. Some items in their "Fit & Active" line include yogurt, froozen berries, jelly, chips, snacks, treats, egg beaters, cereal, salad dressing, meats, etc... Surprisingly, it's not bad and I have yet to notice HFCS in these products. I won't put the quality test up against Whole Foods, but it is still substantially cheaper. With the rising prices of everything in Jewel, Dominics and Whole Food and such, it's worth going to see how much money you will actually save. I really like this Aldi. I was skeptical because in my experience, Aldi tends to be dusty and sketchy but this one is super clean and nice. They have a great produce section and frozen foods too. You can get brand name products here as well as some weird off brands you've probably never heard of (unless you frequent Aldi). The off brands are kind of hit or miss but honestly when you're spending 2.88 on a 20 pack of 16oz water bottles it's not really gonna break you if you hate them. They actually have a pretty good selection of organic and health conscious products as well which I was surprised to see. Over all, it's a great place to stock up on groceries but it's rare for me to be able to get 100% of my list here. I can usually knock off most of the list and get a hand full of things at jewel on my way home. read more

Yay for Aldi's! This is THE place to go for staples. Things like canned vegetables and beans and frozen stuff of all kinds can be had here for much less than you would spend at Jewel, especially cereal! Get cornflakes here for a buck! It's no frills, you put in a deposit for your cart, pay for the bags you put your groceries in. I do like that they seem to care about their employees. I'm happy they have chairs for their cashiers to sit on. This Aldi's is like other Aldi's and they all tend to carry the same merchandise. If you're still continuing to turn your nose up at Aldi's just go in, give it a chance, your pocketbook will than you! read more

I love Aldi's and have been shopping here forever (since Aldi came to US). I know a lot of "brand snobs" think Aldi is only generic and possible "unsafe food", but what is hilarious is most of the items are made by Kraft, Marie Callendar, Del Monte, etc. but just sold under a different Private Label name. It's the same stuff, but they don't have to pay for the brand name so the prices are way cheaper. I work in food marketing - it's true - i promise. The frozen wings and Jambalya mixes are great. The produce section can be iffy, but you can definately find some good stuff if you look. read more

Great, underrated grocery store featuring fresh meat and produce and also beer and wine. Lots of your friends will bag on you for going to Aldi but let them keep spending out the wazoo for groceries at Jewels or Dominickses while you get just-as-good stuff at Aldi's. The only Aldi product I would not recommend is the Northstar and Northstar Light beer. Winking Owl Wine on the other hand (Merlot and Chardonnay only, avoid the Cab) is great stuff. Hash brown patties are wonderful to have around as is the bratwurst and precooked breakfast sausage--well I could go on and on. Don't let your prejudices dissuade you from checking this store out--your wallet and palate will both be glad you did. read more

I actually really enjoy shopping here. The store is always clean and the staff is always friendly. My only complaints are that someone seems to get to the stuffed broccoli chicken breasts before I do every time and takes every single last one of them. Arrrrggghhh! Oh, and it would be nice if they carried skim milk. However, I love shopping here because I can always afford to eat for a week on $20. What's so great about Lincoln Square is that despite the gentrification there's still an Aldi within walking distance. This is one of the best stores. It's so affordable. Pretty much everything is less than $2. You can buy fresh flowers, produce, cheese, meats and other fresh items. They also have a lot of private label brands, kind of like Trader Joe's. And special treasure hunt items like Costco. Each week they have a different theme ranging from back to school, fitness, kids items. I always pick up the flyer to see what's going to be the next week. They're also fantastic for shelf staples such as rice or canned tomatoes. They save you money by doing things smart. Charging for bags. Being green isn't just for trendy Whole Foods. Renting carts so that they employees don't have to corral them back. Putting items still in the boxes on the shelves. What's the use in someone unpacking them anyway? Even nicer than the savings they provide you is how they treat their employees. Cashiers get to sit in chairs while they ring you up. Save yourself lots of money and visit Aldi. read more

I am not one to remember the price of anything but I do have a prejudice about paying more than $3 for a box of cereal. They have great cereal, nicely under $3 and not entirely unhealthy, and some other good staples, all with obscure brand names. I don't think this should be your only source of food but good if your feeling a little frugal. read more

Who knew? Aldi is awesome. A nice variety of staples at ridiculously low prices and the quality is there! First we tried the cheeses and yogurt. Great! Moved on to much more from tortilla chips to wine...uh, yeah, wine, and beer. Great! I have been to a few Aldis at this point and always find the staff very friendly and the stores clean. That is particularly true of this Aldi, which is right down the block from me. They all close at 8 pm so no late night runs. read more

Aldi is cheaper than pretty much anywhere but places like Sam's, but at Aldi you can get a jar of pickles in a size smaller than 17 pounds. Anyway, I love this place. There seems to be more troublemakers in front of this store lately, but they're relatively pleasant. Check out this store. The hilarious brand names you've never heard of ("Pleasant Farms", "Joyous Hills", etc) make it worth the trip. read more

I love Aldi. I love the cheap produce (as good as or better than Jewel or Dominick's, although they don't have organic or anything too fancy). I love the fun special items they have - I once got Wholly Guacamole for $1.99! I can't complete my entire grocery list here, but I always visit Aldi before I go to the Jewel down the road, just to make sure I am getting the best deal. Great deals: Cereal (Honey Crunch N Oats with Almonds is my favorite!) Produce, especially broccoli, bananas, zucchini, and pears Bagged salad (only $1 compared to $2.50 or more at Jewel!) Fit & Active Cherry jubilee Yogurt Creamy havarti cheese Popsicles Fit & Active cheddar cheese rice cakes (they sound bad, but OMG, delicious). Cheap wine Waffernusse! I love the renovations, they are so nice! However, a woman with red glasses working the cash register tonight was so rude. If you had an issue that I left my few canned goods in the box, you could have just asked me to take them out. I didn't do it on purpose, I just wasn't paying attention. She took every can I had and threw it in the box-literally. She slammed those cans so hard it made no sense. She then took my receipt and threw it at me and it landed in the shopping cart. I said thank you and she said nothing. I walked away because I didn't want to let my anger get ahold of me and cause me to make a scene. You don't have to treat people like that. It was unacceptable. I'd rather go elsewhere than put up with that. Her attitude was so uncalled for, all she had to do was ask me to take them out of the box, throwing things is vey immature. I won't be back. read more
