This place is my go to for Christmas gifts. Plenty of stockings stuffers here. Great selection of hard to find and unique food and booze items too. We usually get things here to make a gift basket for the in-laws. We end up buying more stuff for us. Bathroom was out of order. Looks like it has been due to the barricade and caution tape. Most of the time I go in and shop. Other times I do pickup if I'm short on time and need to pick up specific things. This last time, there were 2 items out of stock. Outside of product availability, I can mostly find what I am looking for and the store is usually neat and organized. Horrible service experience with multiple online orders. There is no customer service phone lines so you have an issue it's by email and at some point they just stopped replying. Really how can you go wrong here? There are no essentials of life purchases here, such as food, clothing, medicine and shelter. What's in here is nourishment for your soul. Like what you ask? Well here they have candles, kitchen accessories(the cute kind), throw pillows, patio furniture etc. But that's not what draws me in. It's their selection of specialty foods and alcohol that keeps me coming back. I'm not a sommelier. Thus, I pick my spirits on how gorgeous the bottle is or if chocolate is involved or if it's from Provence. As I said, how could you go wrong? This is my absolute favorite store. I shop here every holiday, every dinner party, every time I need a good shopping experience. They have one of everything, unique and inspiring stuff. My favorite go-to gift is the Sackcloth & Ashes blanket. It's well made and benefits charity, and I can also get snacks from around the world. It's like target, I'm in there and I want to buy everything! And I usually walk out with quite a haul, prices are reasonable considering how much likely went into curating, getting them here, and stocking the shelves! There's so much to choose from! read more

I almost want to buy everything and anything in this shop. I was in the hunt for a sizeable collander so we were told this shop might have it. Either this or "scarget". We have plenty of scarget in Detroit, but this is my first ever encounter with this shop. Everything here is just nice. It's like a posh version a Dig Lots. Everything they sell here is really nice and top knotch quality items. They even sell wine, and soju, and sake even. It's crazy... plus they have groceries, like things you can eat. Then their kitchen department is really nice as well. I did manage to find a colander, but it wasn't the size I needed. So, I ended up just browsing around. Sitting on the couch, wandering into the cosmetics area where I sampled there awesome selection of posh handcreams. The prices were pretty good. Not too bad considering the location and the motiff of the store. None the less, I enjoyed my shopping experience here. After many times passing this store, I finally stopped in on Friday 5/5/23. Wow, what a nice find and store. Reminded me of Pier 1 Imports, but with a much more varied assortment of goods. Bath, dec pillows, furniture, light fixtures, decorative accents and a market and wine selection to name some. Got great assistance from the check out person in "D". I like this place, it has some really quirky collection of all sorts of things - spices, utensils, china, stationery, lights, yarns, slaps & shampoo, furniture. But everything is so expensive here. While I am happy with my bright colored dinner set purchase, the wok that I bought from here is not of good quality and eroded in 3 months of use(despite following all wok care). Paid a big price for it. I'd only go back if I was feeling super generous with my wallet and I have an urge to redecorate with fancy stuff. read more

I had walked to this store and had seen some items of interest that I wanted to buy. However, i could not carry these items on my 5 mile walk home. I went to their online store and bought the items. I then got an email that they cancelled some of the items of my order. I asked them to cancel the entire order then. They refused. Then sent me emails with fake Fedex tracking for the remaining items. They now expect me to take the time to return the items, which will be an inconvenience to me when all they had to do was cancel the order. I am displeased with this experience and will not be returning to the store or their website. I can now see I am not the only one...based on all the recent bad reviews. read more

My roommate and I arrived 45 mins before closing on a Tuesday with one goal in mind: find the rug that we need for our house-warming party. We visited Target. We checked Amazon. We browsed RugsDirect. No dice. The World Market on North was our last hope. The ladies at the front welcomed us warmly and pointed us directly to the clearance rug section. We were hopeful. We browsed. We perused. We found THE rug that matches our living room vibe. However, it didn't have a tag - so we asked the friendly manager Harry how much it was. "Full price." We were dismayed. Apparently we missed the clearance sale by less than 24 hours. Major bummer. But we did one last sweep and found a clearance tag that had fallen off a rug...OUR RUG. *ding ding ding* We chat with Harry. He smiles. And then says, "Ok I'll honor it, just for you guys." We fist bump with excitement. We head up front to check out. It was a great deal. He even took his time to thoughtfully train a new hire, graciously take a phone call, and ring us up as the store was closing. If this isn't a win-win of a shopping experience at World Market, I'm not sure what is. We'll be back. read more

I received a gift from a friend from world market. Two lamp shades that are way too big for my lamps. I called WM and asked for a free return shipping label. Wait to pay. I've always had to wait to pay at this store. There were two cashiers closing out customers. I was the only person in line. After one of the cashiers finished with her customer, she went to lunch; manager standing right behind me acknowledged her lunch break with a nod. I've been a long time fan of Cost plus world market and like trekking the city to see what offerings differ between their locations. Had the occasion to stop in the other evening. I needed a good housewarming present as well as a few miscellaneous items as well. I was already late for a gathering and whilst I thought I'd be quickly in and out, ended up spending longer than I should've. Too much good shit, all in one place and for a decent price. Pricing is far better than CB2 or Crate and barrel which I mention only because of proximity to their stores. Shopping for housewares, serve-ware, gifts, food and more is just, plain, exciting and they would often have specials, sales or clearance available. My only gripe with this location is the unavailability of their associates which mainly hang around the registers or hide in one of their many departments. Not the most lively bunch. Join the loyalty program and get something like, $10 dollars for every hundred spent and or coupons sent to your home. read more

I'm part of the World Market Explorer Member's program, and I'm constantly getting coupons to my e-mail. I went today because I received a 15% off coupon yesterday and wanted to get some ramen and udon, like I always do. However, the ramen and udon merchandize wasn't really in stock at all. I was quite disappointed. Since I was already there, I needed to come out with Plan B. I picked out couple cans of Thai iced tea and three (2) rolls of flavored salami, since they were on sale. The check-out line was long, but there was an additional cashier coming in to rescue the primary cashier. It was a good call. I just wish that they had the Japanese-style ramen and udon like they normally would in this store. I purchased 8 of your Sonia chairs and a dining room table two years ago from your stores on Clinton and Clybourn in Chicago. All of a sudden four of the chairs have the "leather" coatings peeling off. I took these pictures to your Clybourn Ave store in Chicago. I was told by the manager, he can only give me $25 dollars off purchasing new chairs which cost $159 each. Are these chairs supposed to be disposable after two years? I would hope not. This color of the chairs is discontinued. The chairs themselves are very sturdy but the coating on them is a joke. Personally I cannot afford to replace chairs every couple of years. My friend and I visited this store yesterday and, unfortunately, we had a negative customer experience. We wanted to buy a little live-edge table that was on display so we picked it up and headed to the register. On the way an employee told us we couldn't buy the display. We said ok, but could we look at the table you have in stock to make sure it looked like this one. He opened the box (with not the greatest attitude) and come to find the the table they have in stock didn't look like the display. The live-edge piece of wood was different and we specifically liked the shape of the one on display. He said he could sell us the display then for a $30.00 additional charge since they then needed to put a new one together. We paid the fee, but I think it was not handled properly. We have no problem buying a stock item if it's the same as what is on display - and it wasn't. The employee was being very dramatic about it, and couldn't see it from our perspective. Good customer service is sometimes admitting that store policy doesn't always fit in-line with every possible situation. read more

They sell cute stuff but it's low quality and not very durable. They also place excessive and unnecessary scrutiny on returns of defective merchandise. I purchased six teal and six beige throw pillows to place on a brand new $2800 light colored sofa. The teal pillows bled onto the beige pillows and also bled to make unremovable spots on my sofa. I was given a hard time by the cashier Lana because I had purchased the items on sale and then again by the assistant Kenia who insisted that two of my pillows were dirty and could not be returned. What about compensating me for the damage to my sofa? They don't understand product liability and they don't understand customer service. I don't think I want to step inside the store that treats me like this when a couple hundred feet away you can find a Crate and Barrel, a West Elm, and a number of other places that sell higher quality and treat their customers right. read more

Interesting store. I was on a special mission to find some glass bottles of root beer for a nephew's birthday gift. Toured through the wine and beer section until I came upon sodas, but no root beer? Asked the gal who was stocking if that had more soda and she walked me over to a stand I had not seen with a bunch of exactly what I was looking for. Walked out with six different bottles (plus a few differnt ones for me!) of root beer that are going to make the little guy's day. Cashier (Lana) was super helpful helping me get packaged up. One odd thing, the entrance door is on the parking lot side of the building. Strange but not a big deal. read more

It is my favorite place to find things when I want to re-do a room, buy unusual, sturdy but inexpensive furniture, find a gift, wrap said gift, get Xmas decorations, discover a new bottle of wine, find exotic party snacks, dress a table or a window, fill my home with candle light and exotic scents. My favorite accessories have come from here. All of the "ooohhh! Where'd you get THAT!" little details have come from here. It's the place that gets my environment-making creative juices flowing. I can spend HOURS in this place thinking up new ways to remake a room here...and have. And it's CHEAP. Perhaps this is what you get when you exploit the crafty talents of the poorest of 3rd-world countries. They carry my Bavarian sweet mustard. That alone gets them five stars. But everything else there gets them five stars as well. When I moved to Chicago this past year, I didn't bring any furniture with me. Enter World Market--affordable pieces that are well-made and solid quality. Yes, you have to put together, but the quality is leaps and bounds above IKEA. A couple end tables, a TV stand, a desk, and the most comfortable papasan chair ever only set me back $500-600. Of course, there are the food and drink treasures as well--Spotted Dick pudding, Haribo gummies, and an incredible wine selection. But I love this location because of the outstanding customer service I have received there. For instance, when I bought my papasan, I wasn't sure if I could fit it in my car, but I thought I'd be ok. After hauling it out, I realized my little Ford Focus just wasn't having it. Sadly, I brought it back to return it for the time being. An employee asks: "What kind of car do you have?" I told him. His reply "Oh, I can make that fit." Sure enough, he came out with me to my car and did some presto-magico to wedge the papasan up over the front seats into the back. I will start out by staying that I was impressed with the selection at this particular location. It is much bigger than most, so on that end, 5 stars. I am giving this store 1 star for their customer service. I was interested in purchasing the floor model of a back ordered couch. Talked to an employee who told me that they do not sell floor models and that she could place an order for me online, however, due to the nature of this sofa the expected delivery time could be up to a few months or may even end up being cancelled and refunded. Based on this information, I decided to call the other World Market locations and see if they would be willing to sell their floor models and what do you know, 5 of the other location have already sold theirs since this item is so delayed. Called Lincoln Park back and spoke to a manger this time. Told her the other locations, including some out of state, have all sold their floor models and asked again if there was anyway they would part with there's. Mind you, I am not asking for any discount on this item. Got the same answer...no. Decided to try and place an order for this couch online, made it through check out, got a confirmation email, and then no more than 20 mins later got a delayed item email. This is exactly what the other locations told me would happen and that was their reasons for selling their floor models. I have to shout out the Evanston and Kildeer locations, specifically their managers, for being very helpful and full of suggestions on obtaining this specific couch. I work retail as well and know how inconsistent vendors can be and how easily expected shipments can change from day to day. And yes, I understand that stores have policy's in place for a reason, but when it comes down to a situation like this, isn't making the customer happy more important? Especially when other locations have strived to do so and exceeded at it. read more

If you don't know this chain store it has colorful home decor stuff from around the globe, with often reasonable pricing. They also have OK frames if you don't feel like going all the way out to Ikea. Also I've gotten some very nice double mats to fit the frames just by buying posters there that come pre-matted (and then removing the poster). I used to go here a ton, years ago. I still have a large heavy wood coffee table and matching end table I got here at least six years ago, and it still looks great. Actually I still have a carved wood screen that's 6' tall that I got from here years ago too. It still looks great despite the fact that my cats climb it like Mt. Everest every now and then. Today I got a set of thin 'gold' bangles from here for $10, and a few very pretty fabric place mats I needed. I feel it's generally cheaper than Pier 1. They have an eclectic, colorful inventory. If I am feeling more PC and generally wealthier, I trek up to the fair trade Evanston store "Ten Thousand Villages" which has some similar global home decor/jewelry merchandise plus at times better quality. Ten Thousand Villages definitely has more expensive pricing, but with the good karma benefits of being fair trade. Check my reviews for them too. By the way for this store, it's best to turn in from North Ave as if you are going to the Container Store because the parking lot for Cost Plus is attached to the Container Store lot, just a little to the north. I am absolutely in love with this store. I love all the products they carry, and the people that work there. I was just in there buying a new dining room table set and poor Sean was the only person there doing furniture checks; running around grabbing big in-stock items to bring up front and/or out to cars. I was waiting for someone to help me see if the table set I wanted was in stock and he stopped to help me even though he was in the middle of helping multiple people. He came back within 5 minutes to tell me what was and wasn't in stock, and offered to call the Broadway location to have them hold anything I needed. On top of that, I had my 6 month old with me and he was playing around with him every time he came by to help. He was just SO nice and helpful for someone that was covered in sweat from running around so much. Then as I was checking out, the cashier noticed something was missing from the order. Before I said anything, she ran back herself to try to find it, then called the Broadway location to have them put it on hold for me. She, along with Sean, continued to play around with my little man the entire time. Sean helped carry everything out to my car, and even the security guard jumped in to help AND (along with everyone else) played along with my son as well. The people that work there are just as nice as can be and beyond helpful every time I've been there. I will go out of my way to shop there to give them my business, which isn't hard since they carry EVERYTHING, from furniture, to decor, food, kitchen appliances, wine, etc. I had the same experience at the Broadway location, although I will say the layout is easier to navigate here. read more

When its a few days before Christmas and you've just finished with finals only to find out that you weren't as finished with shopping as you thought you were....World Market is the best place to venture to. They have such a wide selection of different products that it's the easiest place to get something for everyone. Their food section is pretty fantastic, they have a bunch of different sauces and marinades. And their beer/wine selection is great. They have a whole row of different little musical instruments which were fun to play with. They have lots of scarves and bath items which make great stocking stuffers. What a great experience here!! I went into the store to use a coupon, but found that they only had one of the item I wanted to purchase in store, and it had some slight damage. I was directed to speak with Gloria, a wonderful employee, who proceeded to go above and beyond to help me get my item and get the discount. She spent time on the phone with customer service on my behalf, figuring out how I could purchase a replacement item through the website while still having my in-store coupon honored and eventually was able to help me got an even better deal than I anticipated. She did all of this on an extremely busy day in the middle of the holiday season, and meanwhile her co-workers around her we're handing out truffles to the people who were waiting in line to check out. I have lived by World Markets before and love them intensely for their food, decor, and wine section. The dishes I currently use are from here, and they're simple but I really like them and they haven't shown any dishwasher wear yet. However, this was the place where I finally found a workable reasonably priced sofa and chair. The people at the store were incredibly helpful with the purchase and offered to investigate the box size situation since I was half-considering taking the furniture in my car piece by piece. ALSO, since I had recently joined their World Market Explorer Club I was able to use my 1st purchase 10% off coupon on my furniture. I'd recommend checking out their coupons online before visiting as they seem to have quite a few sales/discounts. I ended up using the moving company that they recommended. Annoyingly, the company charged me $90 extra to have my furniture delivered after 5 p.m. on a weekday, ugh to you, dudes. However, the furniture arrived on-time without incident. Hooray! As far as assembly, the couch and chair were in 5 pieces each, but my friend and I were able to put them together while drinking beer, and we're women who don't assemble things for a living, so this means it wasn't that hard. (It does make you consider purchasing a drill that has an Allen wrench bit... I'm sure they make those, right?) read more

We just recently purchased a media center for our television and couldn't be happier. Definitely worth it to join their World Market Explorer's Club. The discounts are significant, and I don't mind saying I love seeing those coupons arrive in my inbox. World Market is kinda like a Pier 1 on steroids. At least that's how I view it. The store has that same raw and rustic feel with its exposed wood walls and shelving. Plenty of things to look at and I'm confident it would take no time at all fill up a cart. Picture frames, curtains, kitchen stuffs, baskets, stationary, pillows, furniture, and WINE! How about that? You can pick up throw pillows for your living room and wine in the same trip. That is fantastic. read more
