Very disappointing customer service with Crate & Barrel overall. My husband gifted me the Range dinnerware set from here, and within 2 months one dish spontaneously cracked and another few had gray scratches in them with regular fork and butterknife use. Terrible quality dinnerware, especially considering my last set lasted me 20 years because I know how to take care of things. C&B did absolutely nothing to rectify the issue, despite calling multiple times and speaking with supervisor after supervisor over the course of 2 weeks. They have a terribly restrictive 30-day return policy and can make no exceptions (although I was asking at 60 days), even when the quality of their materials suck. Buyer beware! Don't buy dishes unless you want to continually replace them every 2 months. I will never buy houseware from here again. read more

A long-term Crate & Barrel customer, but the store and its service has noticeably declined in recent years. My most recent misadventure began with an online order: a three-part ceramic snowman. It was poorly packaged for shipping and arrived shattered. When I went to the North and Clybourn store to exchange/return, I was first assisted by a young associate who was quite flustered. She informed me that no replacement inventory was available and as a "final sale" was not eligible for a refund. To resolve the issue, I waited for an older associate, Lindsey, to finish a phone call and assist. While she processed the return, she told me she could not refund my credit card due to the "final sale" status. Instead, she insisted that store credit was the only option. When I expressed frustration -- after all, the problem began with C&B's inadequate packaging -- Lindsey doubled down. She dismissed my concerns, stating the packing was 'just fine' and that there was nothing more she could do. The irony, of course, was hard to ignore: if the packaging had been fine, I wouldn't have been standing there. Indeed, I had purchased the ceramic snowman late on Christmas Day, fully aware it was a final-sale item. But "final sale" should not mean customers are left to deal with broken goods. Avoid this Crate & Barrel location in particular due to bad management -- the high number of bad reviews they're receiving here is NOT a coincidence. After picking up an online order here and finding it to be faulty, I attempted to return/exchange it back at the same location. The store manager refused to accept it, stating that she is only interested in accepting returns or exchanges that she can resell immediately to other customers (which clearly wasn't the case for a defective item) and referred me to contact the manufacturer for warranty. A quick call to corporate Crate & Barrel customer service later cleared this up quite nicely -- not only did they make it abundantly clear that it was extremely inappropriate for this store manager to refuse to accept the return/exchange (and that she was lying when she blamed Crate & Barrel policy for the rejection), but the Crate & Barrel online customer service representative quickly and easily escalated the issue and subsequently resolved my issue to satisfaction. So make no mistake -- this is not a case of an entitled customer with unreasonable expectations leaving a negative review unfairly -- this is an honest and measured review warning others to steer clear of this location if possible, to avoid any unnecessary headaches caused by bad management who cares far more about their own convenience and profit over the satisfaction of their customers (and evidently clearly below the corporate standards of Crate & Barrel when contrasted with their online customer service representatives). Perhaps even steer clear from Crate & Barrel altogether until they figure out how to mitigate the damage done (to both their customers and their brand) by bad store managers like the one at this location. read more

Very nice Crate & Barrel store over on Halstead and North Avenues. They have not changed their merchandising profile much over the years ... basically kitchen items, plates, serving ware, and all sorts of household goods. They even have sort of a bespoke furniture section on the upper floors. While many of the prices have risen, some of the quality has dropped on select items ... but if you shop around you can still find nice merchandise and reasonable prices. On the day we were there we were looking for glassware, of which they have a large selection. We found a nice set of Impressions Double Old Fashioned glasses ($1.95 each) and Aspen Martini glasses ($5.95 each). Very happy with our selections, just make sure you check each glass before you buy. All in all a good visit and we'll be back. Great location for a three-story Crate & Barrel. Staff was perky (greeted us as we came in the door) and friendly. read more

Our wait at the checkout was very minimal, however, if you prefer to skip the line, they also offer curbside pick up for your convenience. My experiences at this location have been nothing short of exceptional. When you enter the location immediately find Jason as he is my go to for anything home design. Typically he is located on the second floor. Standing well over six feet tall and approximately 13 stone he exudes an aura of confidence and sensuality that I require in my home furnishing expert. From tables and chairs to couches and rugs, Jason knows exactly what your room needs and will provide honest feedback. You never get the sensation that he's agreeing with you solely to make the sale. Firstly, I do want to say that the customer service here is excellent, all except one, you know who you are, lady who keeps lying. here's my experience with this location. They don't manufacture their own products, they are basically wayfair except more expensive because they stamp their logo on everything. Many of you probably know this but, I didn't know until I received a sectional completely different from the one I experienced in store. But because it took a year to actually have my piece delivered, during the time, they've taken it down their site so there's nowhere for me to go to find reference for the original specs. After discussing it with their manager, initially we agreed to have a replacement. Which took another year. And when it's finally time to schedule delivery, the store would call to schedule and the warehouse would call to cancel on the day of because they don't have the full thing. And this just repeats even after I asks the lady who called from the store to schedule the delivery to double check with warehouse which she refused and later lied to me saying she did. So after I cleared out my living room for again, the dispatchers just stops calling me and just shows up. Then left telling me they don't have the whole thing and they are going to call and ask what happened. Which I never foundout. after such a frustrating cycle of having to deal with the games they play, they finally agreed to a refund and have the couch stored at my apartment picked up. when the movers came, they had nothing to protect the couch with and just rolled it down the stairs. while getting it out of the apartment they also pushed it through the living room floor. then they started circling whatever excuses they could saying "oh there's A LOT of hair on the back of the couch". yeah because you pushed it through the hair that's on the floor. how else can there be hair on the couch. If you buy anything thing big, make sure you don't see it anywhere else online because it's the same just more expensive. If you do go through with purchasing, take photos, screenshots, asks for written documentations for everything, and I mean everything. hopefully my case was just due to covid and all the resource shortage and what not. But oh man, it's like watching living through a scam furniture shop 101. I would have not expected a $4k couch to become a 2 year problem but it did. Thankfully it's out of my apartment now. Hopefully the refund doesn't become a dreadful game as well. read more

Sophia took me to the area where the merchandise had been moved and showed me the different styles and options. I loved the Blue Tint! Plus the Plain-as she said-"Really they look like real glass!" It IS TRUE! Better acrylic in the summer! Outside! Anyway, Sophia also got me a basket and since it was my birthday weekend I also purchased two bowls with chopsticks. Crate and Barrel is known, at least in my opinion, as a decent place to buy some inexpensive or reasonably priced kitchen items. However, over the years, they have expanded to selling decent quality small appliances and furniture. I'm not a huge fan of their style. I typically opt for stores such as West Elm. However this review is not really about their style as taste in furniture varies widely from person to person and is often without logic. What this review is about is the helpfulness of the employees and general costumer service of this store. On the first floor of this store is mainly kitchen gadgets, small kitchen applies and flatware with some dinning room tables and chairs mixed in. The service on this floor just ok. There are plenty of employees, but they often seem too busy or too disinterested to help. On a recent trip to purchase four dinning room table chairs I had a mixed experience. I found four chairs that I liked and felt they were priced well. I was direct by the staff on the first floor to arrange purchase on the second floor. I took the info from chairs and to register on the second floor. There was a group about four men starting around and behind the counter. At the time, they were all talking to each other and my approach seem to bother them. After I got their attention, they attempted to assist me with my purchase. After several failed attempts to find the correct chairs and sign me for a Crate and Barrel credit card I finally was able to purchase the chairs. Throughout the process I feel that they more concerned about gossiping almost themselves that helping me. read more

Only wish they had more of their online store available in person, but somehow we convinced ourselves to purchase a couch without ever seeing it in person. Talk about risky. Anyways couldn't be more happy with our new leather Chloe couch and delivery to our place was a breeze as they brought it up the stairs and took all the wrapping and packaging with them. Anyhow, compared to other locations I've been to in the past, this one seems to have more on display. In terms of quality, I've never been disappointed with the Crate & Barrel items I've purchased in the past. Their customer service is pretty good. One of the bar stools we had ordered recently came damaged, and there was no issue getting another one ordered and delivered. Additionally, they were nice enough to price match went the same bar stools went on sale a few weeks later after we had purchased. Some final things to note here... the store itself is doggo friendly, so feel free to bring along the furry friend while you shop. Their credit card is quite the deal if you plan on purchasing big items. The cash back is totally worth it. I have ordered furniture and rugs four times in the last 2 years and every single time they publish an estimated ship date that is maybe 30 days out ... shortly before the delivery date they extend it another 2 weeks and keep doing that so the actual delivery is at least 60-90 days overdue, all the while charging my credit card the day it is ordered . How can they be so off so often with the anticipated shipments of their products? read more

I was looking at our wedding registry & saw that one of the only things I wanted "Black silicone utensils w/ acacia handles were no longer available. I called the Lincoln Park store to see if they had & I spoke w Sherolyn, who went above & beyond to help me find the item. The set was no longer available but she searched for the pieces individually. This took some effort & time as this line was being discontinued. So she said she'd call me back. She did after awhile & told me she found 3 of the 6 piece set in the store & 1 piece in the warehouse. I was elated!! Then she gave me the number to another store where they had the other 2 pieces that she didn't!! Also, all the pieces were on sale so I got it cheaper than buying it as a set! But she was soooo great & genuinely really into helping me get this set that I really wanted! I know it might not seem like a big deal but it meant a lot to me. I purchased a sofa and was encouraged to open a store credit card to take advantage of a promotion whereby I would receive a gift card for a percentage of the sale. The gift card arrived in the mail and I put it in a safe place until I was ready to order more. There was an item I wanted, but it was on back order so I figured I would just wait. I went to use the $360 reward today and it was not going through. When I put on my reading glasses and looked closely at the very faint size 3 font small print at the bottom, I realized it expired! I didn't even have it for 6 months! What a scam! $360 is a lot of money this credit should either NOT expire or at least give the client 12 months OR print the expiration date in a font size the average person can SEE!!! read more

Easy parking and a good selection. However within being inside for 5 minutes, you WILL have at least 5 associates come ask what you're looking for. I have been going to C&B for years for everything from small household items all the way up to bedroom furniture. First layout... Well done. Starting on the top floor you can make a circle a get passed right back to the escalator. Nice the way they have all the furniture with accessories to give you ideas. First floor is full of the basics as well as some nicer pieces for all parts of the home. Staff... Always found them to be quite helpful and quick with a recommendation when looking around upstairs. Other stuff... Return policy is solid. Received a coffee maker as a gift that had an issue, they happily exchanged it no questions asked. Having a parking lot is an added bonus for sure. Excellent store and displays! This Crate & Barrel is located between major thoroughfares and the expressway. The store is clean and well organized. Floor staff is friendly and happy to help if you have questions or need additional information about products, deliveries, or suggestions for matching items, should they not be included in their display sets. Two staffers helped us and both of them were great! In being fair, giving a holistic review, the reason I took off two stars is that while they do offer parking, which in the city is awesome, this part was uncomfortable. You're heavily watched, physically monitored with their eyes and feet as if you might potentially be doing something illegal, including while you're in the store. Yes, security is vital in today's world, but it doesn't have to feel unwelcoming too. Although I'm sure this is based on very real past issues, and likely a necessary evil, it nonetheless gives this presence of being watched, but not in the hovering for commissions kind way: "May I help you?"...if you know what I mean. No, security is actually watching and following you! That said, if you're okay with their over-the-top, city style precautions (to protect themselves), then you'll see their pricing is fair; it's still a normal Crate and Barrel comparable to most other stores in the area, and it's a nice place. They offer quality products and for those staffers who helped us, they were great. We found this store to be easy to navigate and convenient. Everyone has been very accommodating at this location as we have been buying furniture for a new home and getting married in the same year. Unfortunately we had an unpleasant experience with one of the workers Ali. We bought a couch in December and it was backordered until mid March which was fine. We got it and wanted to add one more piece to the couch since it was smaller than we expected. She gave us a very hard time about getting the discount again for new buyers even though we had no control over the delivery date. So I was on the hunt for a indoor plant pot that had a saucer for a gift. It seems that either nobody cares about draining their indoor plants or likes moldy swamp pots in their home. I can't believe how many stores I visited before I found a decent (not super attractive but at this point I stopped being picky). pot with a saucer. Why was I obsessed with this... I am giving a Peace Lily as a gift. It is known for cleaning the air which is why I wanted a matching saucer. I called to cancel an order I recently placed that was waiting for me to pick up in store - not only did it take over 10 minutes to get someone on the phone to help me, they were not professional in terms of displaying friendly customer service. Sure, the job was done that I requested, but because it was not as pleasant of an experience as it possibly could have been (she even hung up on me after asking if "that's it" without saying have a great day or goodbye or anything)...I felt the need to call this out. Because people who shop here pay good money for a good experience, regardless of the reason for the experience, even if it's a return. If management reads this review they can note this was written at the day and time of the experience to find out which employee in customer service it was that needs to be flagged. read more

Earlier this afternoon I was shopping at this location (for the first time, buying things for my daughter's apartment) and witnessed an extremely disturbing encounter. A sales representative continually harassed two young people of color as they attempted to shop for wine glasses. She approached them multiple times and at one point said she would need to "wipe down the glasses" because they had touched them, and bothered them continually as they tried to shop. I was horrified by this unprofessional and discriminatory behavior, and I suggest everyone, regardless of race, think twice about making purchases from this branch. I hope the manager addresses this issue, and I will certainly not be returning! I'd like to add that almost a year later I have received no comment or response to my feedback. I would not advice working with this store - they trick you with good customer service while they're helping you put your order together but once they have your money that all changes. They show no willingness to help with getting your furniture delivered and any issues that arise from the delivery process (for example the delivery team showed up with only 1 item out of 5 from my scheduled delivery) they blame on the warehouse and say it's not part of Crate and Barrel so they aren't responsible for that element of service. Crate and Barrel chooses who they do business with and should show some level of responsibility for their business relationships. read more

Went to the store last Friday and purchased a coverlet and two pillow shams, neither in the store and had to be ordered. I worked with Jan C., who was very nice. While placing my order, I believed the items would be shipped to my home since we joked about the multiple addresses for me in their system. Yesterday I received a text telling me the pillow shams arrived at the store and to arrange pick up within 7 days. Tonight I drive to the store and the woman working the online pickup desk around 6 p.m. 'assisted' me with the shams. I told her I was surprised the shams were sent to the store and not my home and asked if she could confirm if the coverlet, which is on back order until February, was being delivered to the store or my home. I had to ask this 3 times because she was multitasking and not listening at all. I told her I can't come to the store in February as I won't be in Chicago. She then tells me to go home and call customer service. I thought 'what?!' I bought the items in the store and no one can tell me / confirm where the coverlet would be sent? She then called for a manager. I explained this all to him. He was able to look up my order and confirmed the coverlet would be sent to the store in February. I told him that is not what I intended, this was not my mistake, and told him Jan C. and I even talked about the addresses. He said I would have to cancel the order and reorder everything to include shipping. So no accommodation to try and correct this that doesn't further inconvenience me. I don't even live close to the store. It was very surprising to me. The girl/woman at the counter who I had to explain to 3 times because she kept doing other things, and then tells me to go home and call customer service, after I drove 45 minutes to get there, should be fired. Terrible attitude. I waited my turn in line, she should have listened to the very simple issue of 'where will this item be shipped to, my home or this store?' instead of making me repeat this 3 times before telling me to go home and call customer service. I know customers aren't always right and some are rude but I was polite to her. I hope she gets fired now. read more

Did not have a good experience here today. I went to see a sectional that was in a promotion that was emailed to me. Very disappointed to find out this item was not available to see on the floor. Why email me if I can't see it in person? Additionally, my "salesperson" (intentionally put into quotes since this person did not try to provide any information that would lead me to buy), was not very attentive. I realize that in today's COVID environment, rules are changing. But seriously, if you are helping me and then abandon me to help someone else that's not right. The reason I was give was that the other party was ready to "buy now". So that's the criteria? Good to know, C&B. When my "salesperson" was able to give me his attention again, he did not try to give me any information. He gave me the price on an alternate sectional I asked about but did not let me know when I could get pricing on the piece I actually came in to see. And, I was not offered any paper copies of prices / quotes on anything. Nor was I given any contact information from him. Seriously? I'm looking to spend somewhere between 5K and 8K. Went two times to pick up the rest of my order, once they took over 20 minutes to find my remaining dinnerwear in the back and the second time they lost my order completely even though earlier in the day they swore it was put to the side. I've always been loyal to the C&B at Woodfield since I've always known my way around it, but now that they've shuttered it and moved it down the street, this may be my go-to C&B. It's clean, the employees are welcoming but unobtrusive. Kitchen gadgets, pots, pans, cooking implements, linens, bathroom, bedroom, living room, patio... C&B has everything. Everything. The stock rotates enough that you may find something you love one moment and when you go back to buy another, won't find it. Heads up.
