My first mistake was shopping at a neighborhood furniture store. My second mistake was spending the amount of money that I spent on 4 items, that was not worth it. I called the store on 4/6/16, because of my concern regarding 1 of the items I bought. The floor lamp which was originally $99.99, had completely fell apart in large crumbles, underneath the base of the lamp. When I contacted the store, I did not contact the store for a warranty issue. I contacted the store because this item appeared to be defective in some sort, and I was totally taken back at how a lamp can just fall apart, and I had it less than 2 years. I was told to bring the product in with all the broken pieces.
First off ,the guy who I spoke to over the phone was very rude and defensive. The next day I arrived close to closing time, and as I approached the entry door to store it was open. As I entered, the guy must have realized I was the individual he spoke with over the phone prior. The guy immediately stated the store was closed and was very unkind with helping me resolve my issue. As a consumer, I don't expect to replace lamps every 2 years. I have a small table lamp that I brought from Home Depot more than 5 years ago, which cost $19.99 and still is in great condition. My experience dealing with this guy was the worst. He didn't let me express my concern about the product, nor was he concerned about the cheap product he sold to me. After showing my invoice all this guy could say was "I didn't sell it to you". He was more concerned about his reputation more than anything. Not knowing that he ruined his reputation as well as the stores reputation, from the first phone conversation. If it wasn't for consumers buying these products from this company, then it would be hard for them to keep their doors open. After all the bull crap this guy had to say out his mouth, he offered to sell me another lamp for half off, and I would then be offered a new warranty.
He also mentioned the lamp was still in good condition, and that he would try to find a replacement for the glass portion that shattered, when it feel to the floor in my apartment. Why would I want to keep a lamp that is unstable. Once you put a replacement glass piece on the top of it, it will fall immediately to the floor, because there is not enough weight holding it at the button. To make matters worse he only mentioned "trying to find me another replacement piece", after I clearly pointed at the item and mentioned," how could I have been responsible for this damage like you accused me of in the beginning?". I guess he then realized,ok the customer is right at this point. The guy sounded more stupid as he talked. It only made me think he really needs business, since his store is not doing that well. Lastly, the table & bar chairs, along with the book case I purchased are not all stable. The legs on 2 of the bar stools are shorter than the others, causing the stools to wobble. I have to place a small object under the book case to keep it stable as well. Now when I originally purchased these items I spent close to $500.00 dollars. I felt very disrespected when the guy I was dealing with in the store, claimed I was trying to tell him a false story about how the lamp got damaged, just so I can "get over on him". This is not the type of individual let alone a sales rep that you would ever want to deal with.
I wasn't looking to have the lamp replaced by the company. I'm just a consumer who was concerned about a product I purchased, and how this item could just fall apart in this manner. One more thing, the guy claimed the base had to be unscrewed from the bottom, which was untrue. This was the whole reason I came into the store.I brought the item, so this guy can see the damage in person. I wanted him to also see he was incorrect about the product he was trying to stand behind and defend. If you notice I keep referring to him as the "guy" simply because he is not a sales representative. These people are very kind when you spend your money. As soon as you complain about the product, you are treated rudely and as if you are lying about their cheap products. For any one interested in visiting this store, it is not worth it. All along Ashland ave near 47th street, you can find stores that sell reasonable furniture. You might as well buy from these stores versus buying from this unworthy store, if you going to end up with cheap products anyway. This business owner appears to hide behind the name of this community, to make it seems as if it a great store to buy from. When in all actuality this store sales cheap products for high prices.
