Since being acquired by "Bed, Bath & Beyond", this store has lost its focus. They got rid of their gift wrap & bags section. The entire section is gone! No special boxes or any boxes like they used to carry. I don't know why this place is consistently a terrible store to shop. I placed an order, went to pick it up with curbside pickup. I called them because when I checked in it said "delayed", but I didn't know if that was what their system was saying because two of the items I ordered apparently weren't in stock. The guy on the phone said that he just saw someone go back so they'd be out shortly. Seven minutes later, they did bring out a curbside order for the car that had come since I was sitting there. At this point I'd been waiting at least 20 minutes so I called back and cancelled the entire order. It was my own naïveté and hope that visiting the most convenient store (since we were in the Loop) might be ok this time. If you have to order from here just do it online. read more

am writing to file a formal complaint regarding an incident that occurred at The Container Store located at 940 W North Ave, Chicago, Illinois. During my visit, I attempted to return a package that was damaged. The store manager, Jeffery Brown, handled the situation in a very unprofessional and disrespectful manner. Instead of assisting me with the return process, he declined my package and accused me of lying about the damage. I found his behavior extremely inappropriate and unacceptable for someone in a management position. The way he spoke to me was disrespectful, and I felt that I was treated unfairly and in a discriminatory manner. As a customer, I expect to be treated with professionalism, respect, and fairness. Being called a liar while simply trying to return a damaged package was humiliating and upsetting. I respectfully request that this situation be investigated and addressed by corporate management. "The Container Store" is an organization freak's paradise! After I was done pregnant with my son, I have been doing my motherly duties, plus clearing the junk, cleaning, and reworking the house as my way of exercise. I have to admit that I'm just little bit OCD and this store hits the spot. One of the reasons why I don't visit the store as often as I want to is the price: stuff is generally on an expensive side. However, the quality of most items is solid and the presentation is quite nice. In other words, the entire venue is pretty fun to browse. I would say it's more helpful to know what needs to be done with your organization project, with a feasible plan and clear vision, so that when you are in the store you aren't going to over-spend on things you don't actually need. I like their Lego storage collection. My partner was intrigued by it and tempted to purchase some of the organization items for the Lego pieces. Once again, this organization project can be executed later as the kid grows older and is able to play the toys. Yes, the entire store can be overwhelming to some people. One useful tip is to browse other competition's websites and develop a game plan so that you can budget accordingly. If you are a visual person, I think making your way to a brick-and-mortar location makes everything easier. Like I mentioned previously, you can empty your wallet quickly in the store if you are not careful. You can sign up for their digital coupons that they send out every once in awhile. I have a few gadgets that are on my wishlist. I will come back here when I get a chance. By the way, free parking is available in their own lot. Okay this is my first time here. Any container store. I usually stick to the Asian ones cus let's get real way cheaper and more functional. However during pandemic that's not an option since shipping is ridiculous. Anyways we wanted a storage caddie of sorts for baby stuff (diapers, wipes, toys, etc), and a toy box with function. We were amazed at the amounts of organization. Like girls who go to target for fun better not realize this place exists cus omg amazing lol. But we found an awesome rolling 3 tier metal shelf that can be further customized with wood covers/desk, organizers and more. We also found online (they only had black in store) a toy box or organizer box/bench that is soft to touch (nice for baby not to hit head and die) and supposedly withstands over 200lbs. It comes in blush pink, light gray (we got), charcoal gray, and black and was on sale too. Cannot wait to come back. Already planning some new stuff all over the house. read more

If you havent been to this shop, you should be ashamed of yourself. This is my fiance's all time favorite shop in the world. We dont have these in Michigan, but everytime we go places and we find out theres one around. We just go ape manure for The Container Store. This store is pretty much laid out and carries the same exact stuff as any Container Store in the country. When you come in, make sure you grab a cart. Cause you're gonna find something that you wanna buy. Trust me on this. You'll be making excuses to buy an item here. I for one love their kitchen item department. I usually love everything they have to sell here. That and their travel department. That's a must for me. Specially their liquid containers. They're the best ones out there and the ones I've bought before still hasn't broke. So yea, that's my seal of approval. Make sure you sign up for their Pop membership. Their parking lot security guard will scream at customers coming in to the store that you're not allowed to park in the parking lot, which serves multiple businesses in the area. Birthday Surprise! Using my discount in one of my favorite organization stores that has terrible service in tandem, I wanted a collapsible laundry hamper, they don't have any. This info took forever to get because they are far too busy attending one person! So I check out, deliberating either or hampers ( neither collapsible) & the check out person squeals ooooh 15% birthday discount‼ I was charged for both hampers, one I didn't buy. I understand cashiers gets confused, but ... When I pointed it out to her, she asked me nonchalantly if I wanted it off the bill? DO I WANT IT OFF THE BILL? I had the BEST customer service from the Thursday team at the Container Store on North Ave. I walked in at 39 weeks pregnant and in the midst of last minute home repairs due to a plumbing-related flooding issue. I was in a tricky spot and needed a custom closet that I could get quickly enough to install before the baby came. I wasn't optimistic. Debbie, Chad, and Joe went well above and beyond WITHOUT ME EVEN HAVING TO ASK to make it happen. They were truly a blessing during a very stressful time. Container Store and their customers are lucky to have them. Icing on the cake was that the Elfa system was so easy to install I could even do it myself, and it looks and works great! We set up a wedding registry at the Container Store. You can't do it in-store anymore, just online. The website is pretty user friendly for the registry. I did not love it for checking what was gifted; you kind of just have to scroll through the list as far as I could tell. I did appreciate how easy it was to return one of our gifts (though it was broken... which was the reason for the return). We decided to take the return as a gift card and are looking forward to purchasing more items for organizing our home! read more

My fetus already has more clothes than I do. I tried fitting them all in her dresser and hanging them in her closet, but when I was finished it was a bit of a disaster. A trip to the Container Store was very necessary! If you need help getting organized this is the place. Need shelves- they've got it! Need drawers- they've got it! Shoe racks- yep, that too! Getting organized can get a bit expensive and some of their stuff isn't made well (I recently purchased a shoe rack that fell apart after a day..sigh). However, they have a pretty generous return policy...even after you've set something up. And if you're short on time (story of my life) and know exactly what you want their "click and pick up" option works nicely. That's exactly what we did for 2 sets of elfa drawers that now have a happy hope in the closet of our new nursery. We ordered it online, pulled up to the curb, and a helpful employee brought it outside and even took the time to answer our questions about how to set it up. Putting things together is always a bit complicated for me, but fortunately I have a handy husband...and Container Store has some great videos of how to set this stuff up as well. And most importantly now I can continue to shop for the baby since I've got somewhere to put all her clothes, shoes and dozens of headbands. :) read more

You know the person at work whose desk looks like a bomb went off; it's always a shock the few times a year they clean their desk that you actually wonder if they've quit their job. The person who has more pairs of shoes in their living room, kitchen and hallway than their closet. The person who puts away their remaining clean laundry only because they need to use the basket to wash some more clothes; usually because they've run out of underwear. Yes, guilty as charged, that person is me. This should be one of those stores a person like me hates, but I can't help loving it! I've been a fan since the stores opened up in the Chicagoland area and can't get enough of this store. They have everything - bottles, hangers, boxes, drawer organizers, gigantic gift wrap bags, toiletry bottles and more; you name it, they've got it. Not only do they have it, but it's usually cute and inventive too. I guess that's why I spend so much money in this store. I subconsciously hope that if I buy enough of the stuff that somehow, miraculously, I'll turn into one of those people where everything is in its place; instead of one where everything is every place. Sure, you can sometimes find their stuff other places a few dollars cheaper, but why run all over town when you can get it in one place without hassle or headache? As an added bonus the staff here is always nice, knowledgeable, and friendly. I don't think I've ever had a bad service-related experience here, maybe because it's frequently ranked as one of the best places to work. Or, maybe they just enjoy helping hopeless cases like me, who dreams that someday her laundry will put itself away because she's finally bought the right kind of hangers and closet organizers. My mother loves this store. If I can stomach a trip to the Container Store to make Mom happy, so be it. On the one hand, this store depresses me when I contemplate how obsessed our culture is with packaging and how much waste is produced. On the other hand, there is some really handy shit in here. Some of this stuff has no business even existing. For example, I saw a dual-compartment hard plastic contraption for taking cereal and milk "on the go." Really? How desperate are you to have a bowl of cereal during a car trip? A locking plastic bowl and lid in which to shake and eat salad? Ever heard of two forks? Some of their travel gadgets are hopelessly twee. Do you really need a specific carrying case for every single thing that you could possibly pack for a trip? Of course not. And certainly not at $8 or $10 a pop. (That's another thing: their prices are wildly inflated across all departments.) Little shoe bags? Fancy luggage tags? A digital luggage scale??? But I come here when I need a specific-sized gift box, like those flat white ones that come in fifteen different sizes. Those are useful and don't cause me too much environmentalist guilt. I came here last year when I needed a small file cabinet, and departed with a $99 Bisley five-drawer in lovely midnight blue. I thought that $99 was a bit steep for something which seemed somewhat flimsy, but unless it gets crushed by falling earthquake debris, I will probably still be using it a few decades from now. This last time I almost bought a $3.99 box of cedar balls for my dresser drawers. I love the smell of cedar, but the package noted that the wood was grown in the U.S. and processed in China. I just wanted to share a great experience I had at the Container Store on North. I am from out of town, and was under some pressure trying to meet some movers on time at my son's apartment. My phone died right when I was trying to call Lyft. An employee at the store offered to charge it for me on her personal charger. I was able to call my Lyft and make it back in time. All this may seem a minor inconvenience but it really could have ruined my day if it were not for her kindness and help. Thank you so much! read more

Every time I shop this store I have a bad experience. I picked up a utility closet system I ordered online. They pulled the pieces and shrink wrapped it for me. When I picked it up I ended up waiting 20 minutes for an order that was ready. I get half way home in the Uber and realize one of the 4 shelves is super damaged. This is something the person picking the order couldn't have missed. So 1 hour of my day today is spent taking an Uber back to this store to exchange it - with attitude. Last week all the racks I picked up had the pick up stickers attached to the metal posts. Couldn't get the glue from the labels off the posts. Looks like crap. Nice job. It's sloppy lazy job performance like this that loses customers. read more

My best friends know this to be true and accept it, because they too were molded from the same Type A matter. :) They have practically everything here to help you get your life in order. Well, at least your physical junk. With my recent move into my first home, this was the first stop on my journey towards organized bliss. Shower caddy, bins, etc. I could go crazy in this store! The Container Store is also a great place to help take travel to the next level. Check out the Eagle Creek suitcase module bags. I don't know if that's what they are called, but they are basically like pouches to put your clothes, underwear, socks, shoes, and toiletries for space efficiency. It's like fitting together pieces of a puzzle. The added bonus is that you actually can find your stuff without messing up your suitcase! LOVE IT! Items are somewhat pricey here, but they seem to last a long time. I have not had to replace any of my higher ticket items yet. I love my fellow Yelpers, but my brutally honest mouth can't stay shut about a couple reviews that totally diss the very concept of what the store is. When I've scheduled "Da Fellas" to come move my apartment, the last thing I'm concerned with is the recyclable factor of what I need to ensure my stuff doesn't get dinged, scratched or lost. I want things cheap, available and sturdy. "Freecycle"? Give me a break. eBay, darlings. Get some cash for your stuff and save the enviro talk for your friends with way too much time on their hands. OK...I'll stop preaching. The Container Store has a lot of crap I will never buy: gift wrapping accessories or pricey shelving systems being a couple departments I overlook. This store is terrific--plenty of parking for Clybourn corridor residents to park their gas guzzler, and the location is a block away from the CTA red line stop. They'll take phone orders and have things ready for pickup. They have late hours. The best part: a visit to the Container Store isn't complete without a stop to the World Market next door! read more

Rude staff. I was uncomfortable even approaching to ask a question. I was having trouble finding an item that said it was in stock. After finding a staff member, he stated "I've worked here many years and have never seen that" and promptly walked away. 15 minutes later, I found the item I was looking for! They have decent stuff to put your stuff in, it's good stuff. Beyond that, great place for hangers (wood, NO WIRE), I love their expandable garment shelves that you hand from the closet bar (great space saver) and the plastic bins are great for storage. Not high end stuff but not crappy quality, I think reasonable prices. Nice service where you can order everything online and they have it ready for you at the door, to minimize lines in this crazy shopping area. read more

This store is kind of ridiculous. I went with my friend to return some wrong sized containers. We walked in and looked at each other and almost walked out. Why? There was a line that went all the way to the back of the store. I felt like I was at Disney World looking at the signs that say from here you are 45 minutes to the front of line. It was insane. And for what? Containers you can buy at Target for half the price! This was not an isolated incident. Good selection. I prefer to come here for organizational ideas then buy the goods online or at a cheaper retail place...most of the time I end up saying "screw it. I'm already here" and drop the coin. However, I wouldn't DREAM of doing that for any major or quantity purchases...this place is WAY EXPENSIVE. And the Elfa sale right after the holidays? NIGHTMARE! If you're not there to actually buy Elfa, don't bother...it's a total clusterfuck. The entire center of the store - for almost the full length - is cordoned-off for all the Elfa pieces. If you want to get from one side of the place to the other you have to go either ALL the way to front or back. It's a big place so that's kind of a pain. If you ever hope to walk confidently among them, you'll need to ignore the pang of shame you feel as you remember the hodgepodge of hangers in your closet. The cardboard box housing your seasonal decorations. The fact that your femcare products abut the Windex under your bathroom sink. Your utensil drawer, its disarray and lack of sleek metal measuring spoons. If you store your cereals, condiments and spices in their original packaging, now is not the time to admit it. This is the store that shows you how your home would look if you found yourself in the video-world of Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" where everything is squared off and things fit together like Tetris. This idea is at once unnatural and somehow comforting. I guess it's that inner conflict that draws me to, and repels me from, The Container Store. Undoubtedly, I have organizational needs. I have much to contain. In every direction, for every room and every situation, there is a product. But do I trust myself to use, and not abuse, the containers? If I start, can I stop? There are seemingly infinite "solutions." At what point does a desire for order and stackables become obsessive? This time, they had the wrapping paper storage box I sought, and I survived with only one impulse buy (toothpaste squeezer). But next time? I leave you with two final thoughts: The web site has a category called, simply, "Inspirational Spaces." The average person will word-associate "container" to "anal retentive" in less than two jumps. Whenever I walk into this massive place, a feeling of general calmness engulfs me and I think to myself, "Everything will be fine now" right! Seriously. While the neatness of my work space may fool you, when it comes to my home, I am actually the messiest, most disorganized person EVER. I think of it more as "oranganized chaos" You should see my couch. Oh wait, you can't, because I'm sitting on the only part that isn't buried in my screenplays and various film reels. The container store presents itself as the solution to my problem. They have containers for everything! You can get a shelving unit, a hidden safe that looks like a can of roach spray, a dispenser for your laundry quarters, a laptop bag, some pump bottles for your bathroom, perfectly shaped plastic containers for hot dogs (!) and cupcakes (!!), and a chair (to "contain" the junk in your trunk) all in one visit. When I go to the Container Store I like to imagine what a compartmentalized, labeled life might be like. Life with pairs of socks neatly folded together in a sock drawer. Closets that you can open without something stabbing you in the eye. People who live like this must also get excited by cute and stylish cleaning products, because they have those in abundance. I hate cleaning, so no degree of cuteness is going to make those chores ok. Now if I were only able to keep these containers contained in their own container so they don't end up mixed up with the rest of my stuff.... read more
