Costa's is my GO TO restaurant with family and friends from out of town. This was my first time going for dinner service and it did NOT disappoint. The server was very kind and came over for our orders right away. I've been here for breakfast before and it was a lot faster service for dinner too. I love the ambiance of Costa's because it feels like such a family cozy restaurant. I think that is something pretty rare in U District. As for the food, I enjoyed it. I got the smoked salmon pasta and it was super creamy and indulgent. I do think it was a bit on the salty side, so there's a warning. I brought home leftovers because the portion was so big. I also got the Lentil Soup as my side for the Pasta and it's vegan and shockingly amazing! The soup was so hearty and everything you want on a winters day. I repeat DO NOT sleep on the lentil soup, SO yummy!!! Finally, I got my favorite thing from costa's, the hot chocolate. It came out 2 minutes after ordering and had a mountain of whipped cream, just how I like it. I really wanted to like this place. We came for lunch and I definitely would come back to try their breakfast to see if that's any different. We ordered the mozzarella sticks, mousaka that came with a soup, and a burger. The mozzarella sticks were delicious, and cooked perfectly to the crisp. The sauce was delicious and creamy. The soup that came with the mousaka was really cold and clumpy. For the mousaka dish, the vegetables were overcooked, the potatoes were undercooked and the mousaka itself tasted as if it was microwaved. The burger was good. The patty is on the thicker side but still overall delicious. The fries were a hit or miss. Some were cooked perfectly crispy while others tasted cold and raw in the inside. The staff were really nice and friendly, and I think that was the highlight of the experience. The inside was great- you're surrounded by green plants, and overall it feels like a relaxed place to bring your family. I think there was just too many options and quality over quantity would be a better way to go here. read more

Pretty good brunch place in U District! I went here with some friends who were visiting from outside of Seattle and we had a hearty breakfast! This is one of the prettiest places on the ave! It's a great date (or solo date!) spot for breakfast and lunch. I had the souvlaki plate and I was impressed! The meat was very well seasoned and they give you pita, tzatziki, salad and rice on the side! The food comes out quickly, the staff is very attentive, and the portions are HUGE. Our bottomless mimosas were refilled multiple times and topped off without us having to ask. I absolutely loved the Greek vegetarian scramble - loaded with veggies and olives!! I could only finish half at the restaurant but ate the rest as soon as I got home. Obviously a solid place if you're at UW. The one downside, just to get that out of the way is the service - they're definitely under-staffed, but it's probably not their fault. The service is pretty slow, but if you go with a fun group and entertain yourselves, it should be okay. Food is honestly solid for the prices! The pancakes of course are a hit, and if you go before 10am, you can get the early bird special - pancakes and eggs for $4.95. I've always walked past Costa's and brushed it off because the exterior is underwhelming, but once I entered I was pretty shocked at the interior being spacious, plant-filled, and cozy. Really great spot to catch up with friends. Needless to say, I was very impressed with Costa's and sad I hadn't discovered this spot earlier in my college experience. Portions are large, costs are fairly low for the sizes, and food is tasty. For starters, I was overwhelmed by the menu. I wanted breakfast (country fried steak) yet Italian is always amazing. Then there were burgers and sandwiches which also sounded solid for the day. I ended up opting to try a Quesadilla and the Chicken Pesto while my friend got the Souvlaki. Quesadilla - as an appetizer, I did not expect much but was then surprised with 8 slices of a chicken quesadilla. This alone would've been a great meal for one. The edges weren't filled the best, but the rest of the quesadilla was packed with chicken, cheese, and assorted vegetables. The emptier edges were fantastic with pasta sauce though. Chicken Pesto - I'm not sure what this was called exactly on the menu, but I suppose it's fairly new as I couldn't find it on past pictures. I believe it was simply Chicken Pesto though. All the pasta dishes come with two pieces of garlic bread that are best used to soak up the sauce. Pesto and garlic bread was a really fantastic combination. Not to mention the fettucine being so creamy with tender chicken pieces. I absolutely loved this. Souvlaki - now this is a healthier choice very well rounded with a Greek salad, rice, pita bread, and meat. Would have loved some more saucy contents for the pita bread, it paired decently with the Greek salad. Then the skewer had tender meat that paired well with the rice. My last meal in Seattle was at Costa's Restaurant, a family owned Greek restaurant on "The Avenue," an urban row of businesses, vendors, and restaurants in the University District of Seattle immediately next to University of Washington. It was easily within walking/wheeling distance of my hotel and I spent quite a bit of time here over my six days in Seattle. This is a historic district with older buildings. My understanding is that this area was hit pretty hard during the George Floyd protests in 2020 and there's quite a bit of graffiti in the area. However, I was here both early morning and later and always felt safe. Costa's sits on a corner. It's a great spot. The front entrance is fairly accessible and the single-door entry was easy to maneuver in my wheelchair. You immediately arrive at a hosting counter. The dining room is to the right. I learned while in Seattle that a lot of places don't have air conditioning given the typical weather in Seattle, though on this particular weekend Seattle was having its highest temps in a long time (one day saw the highest temp ever). Some of the windows were open - I felt comfortable. The dining room is warm and inviting. It's definitely a bit worn, but it's decorated like an older home and has quite a bit of greenery in it. I really, really liked the decor. The hostess and server was warm and friendly. I never got her name, but she was very inviting. She was attentive throughout. She brought a glass of water up front. The menu was a combo of Greek, Mediterranean, some Italian, and some American. I was actually craving a burger and ordered a Hamburger with fries and my usual unsweetened iced tea. The food was very good. One minor faux pas as they had a little cheese on the burger - they charged me correctly, but cheese actually doesn't agree with me and this tainted the meal just a bit. However, the burger was a generous size and quite good. The fries were nicely seasoned and also a nice serving size. I got my always desired refill on iced tea. I never felt rushed, though admittedly business was fairly slow. It was still nice to be able to relax, enjoy my meal, and just soak in the atmosphere. This was a great way to close out my time in Seattle. I appreciated the atmosphere, the meal, and the employees. The customers I did meet were friendly. If there's one thing I really experienced in Seattle, it was super friendly people for the most part. I would definitely return here if/when I return to Seattle. While this meal was fairly basic, it was good and fairly priced with even better service. I'd definitely give a thumbs up to Costa's, though I will be more careful about the cheese as that led to an upset stomach later in the evening. Otherwise, a top-notch experience here. read more

the service at costa's has always been excellent ! the staff are very kind and welcoming. i do think they may be understaffed, so if you are visiting on a weekend morning service can be a little slower and less attentive. the decor feels fitting. i love the variety of plants, the exposed brick, and many windows for natural light. unfortunately the down side to costa's is how unpredictable the food is. i have only tried items on the breakfast menu, therefore i have no saying on how dinner items taste but every time i have gotten the eggs benedict my yoke has been overcooked. this time around i tried one of their scrambles. it was pretty good. the dish didn't fulfill my eggs benedict craving but at least it was less of a gamble. my friend had gotten their swedish pancakes with a lingonberry sauce that tasted quite good! i love that they serve all day breakfast and the bottomless mimosas are splendid! sadly costa's just needs to work on perfecting their eggs and not serving improper dishes read more

The server seemed quite harried even before we asked if she thought we would be served in time to make it to the show. She served us promptly, and we had no problem with time. That's the good part. The staffing seemed inadequate, and The restaurant didn't feel clean. Our main complaint, however, was with the food. We ordered the Olympic plate to share (Moussaka, dolmas, lamb souvlaki, spanakopita). The souvlaki was overcooked and too tough for either of us to eat, and flavors were bland throughout. Really enjoyed our meal here. on the fly choice before the movies. not busy at all, just two other parties. interior felt homey, if maybe a bit aged. brick walls, stylish fixtures, and lots of plants. seated promptly and personably. wide-ranging menu of Greek specialties, pastas, and sandwiches/burgers. two interesting menu notes. they serve breakfast all day, a nice touch and they serve all you can drink mimosas all day every day. our server couldn't have been nicer, giving us attention around the large, distracting party across the way. she made a couple of recommendations and let us peruse the choices. my wife wasn't too hungry tonight so she chose to do a cup of the Avgolemono soup and a single skewer of the Souvlaki chicken. the soup was delicious, rich and seemingly simmered for hours to bring out the lemony flavor. the chicken was fresh grilled and has a wonderfully seasoned flavor. oregano, rosemary, and a bit of paprika create the distinctive taste. served with a side of house made Tzatziki. she loved both and when she expressed her enjoyment of the soup was offered the chef's recipe. i chose a pasta-the pesto pasta with grilled chicken. this came with an option of soup, moist and delicious chicken in a commendable quantity on top of wide noodle pasta with a totally fresh tasting pesto cream sauce. the portion was quite large and i wasn't sure i'd finish it. until i took the first bite. it all came together so deliciously i didn't leave any for later. served with choice of salad or soup and small pieces of garlic bread. i chose the salad which was the only miss of the night with rusty lettuce and a few small pieces of cucumber. didn't really detract from the experience. we will definitely be looking to visit here again when we are in the area for any events in the future. recommended. read more
