ALTERATIONS REVIEW - Extremely Disappointed with Service I'm very disappointed with how I was treated here and feel compelled to share my experience. The first time I came in, the owner helped me because the seamstress wasn't available. That experience was perfectly fine--she rushed my alterations and had the dress ready in a few days. I appreciated the efficiency and professionalism. However, my second visit was a completely different story. I brought in two dresses and met with the seamstress this time. She was cold, dismissive, and made it very clear she didn't want to be there. Almost like I was disrupting her work. When I asked if the bust on one of the dresses could be taken in to minimize cleavage, her response was a flat-out "no". As I was leaving, she asked when I needed the dresses and snapped, "I'M BUSY!" As if my business was an inconvenience to her. It was honestly shocking. When I picked up the dresses and tried them on at home, I was unhappy with one of the alterations. The dress didn't lay right and looked better before the changes. I returned to have the stitches removed, and once again, the seamstress made it clear she wasn't happy to see me. She pouted, made exaggerated expressions, and acted like fixing it was a huge burden. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I am a paying customer, and I expected to be treated with basic courtesy and professionalism. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. I won't be returning and will be taking my alterations elsewhere. read more

Normally good but my last experience was unacceptable. I dropped off my husbands $500 suit on 11/6/23, that he has worn 3-4 times (which they have dry cleaned every time). A few days later my husband got several voicemails that were difficult to understand as it kept going in and out. I went in and they let me know they ripped my husbands pants while dry cleaning them, which they proceeded to blame on us, even though the suit is basically brand new, has only been dry cleaned by them AND they weren't ripped when we brought them in. The woman behind the counter who claimed to be the manager let me know to come back after Thanksgiving and that she would repair the pants at no cost and that I would not need to pay for the dry cleaning. Fair. Things happen, I will move forward. I returned today, 11/29/23 and it was a different woman behind the counter. I explained the situation and she said she would have to call her boss to confirm, totally fine. I could hear it was a man on the phone who I have never met before, she handed me the phone and he told me I had to pay. I explained everything again and he asked me to come back later so he can talk to me in person to better understand the situation and we could work something out. I told him I couldn't come back later and that I needed my suit back and should be honored what I was told. After I told him that, he "suddenly" remembered the situation and that I needed to pay even though I was told otherwise. We went back and forth and he just kept demanding I pay. I wanted to get out of there and knew I wouldn't be back. I paid for my overpriced dry cleaning ($27.15) and let him know I would just write a review. It's disappointing as they have been great in the past and are close to where I live. The ladies behind the counter are great but it was the hostile man on the phone that ruined the experience. Had they simply honored what they told me they would do, I would be coming back and not writing this review. SIDE NOTE: While looking at the pants there seem to be stains that 1) weren't there when we dropped them off 2) don't seem to have been treated. Incredibly frustrating. No. Unacceptable. I dropped off my clothes. When I returned to pick them up they were gone. No clothes to pick up! They made me so upset. I saw the owner walking out of the store at closing taking clothes to her personal vehicle. No good. They didn't offer to reimburse me for the value of my suits and dresses. They told me I should have come back for my clothes sooner. They produced a receipt for me of some unknown person picking up my clothes. The FBI needs to shut them down. I never saw my clothes again. Customer service is dead, and this dry cleaner is a perfect representation. Terrible customer service. And an absolute absence of any care for quality cleaning. If they perform a service wrong, eg fail to dry clean or press correctly., fail to sew buttons effectively, or fail to provide a requested service (hemming etc), they'll insist on payment and will fight tooth and nail against recompense. Find another dry cleaner--any other dry cleaner--and stay away from this one. read more

ZERO Integrity & Over-Priced They received a one-star review since Zero Star is not an option .... I had four pairs of pants hemmed for $168!! Two of the four were fine... the other two were too short. I brought them back a week later and told them they were too short and needed to be an inch longer. The woman behind the counter told me had to pay again have them altered. I explained I just picked them up last week and have not worn them yet, and I already paid you and they still do not fit. She proceeds to tell me I must have changed my shoes and now I wanted them longer and this is my fault! I told her they measured all four pants with the same dress shoes and got 2 out of the 4 correct. She proceeds to say I had to come back with my dress shoe before they would alter...... We stopped using Cosmo Cleaners after nearly 20 years of giving them our business. Their fees (for example, laundering for $4.50 per shirt) have become too steep, when I can get same level of service for much less. The level of care has dropped over the years. When there is an issue, it seems I misunderstand everything or I'm always wrong. Sorry to have to take our business outside our neighborhood. read more

Nuts & Bolts: From my experience, their dry cleaning service is on par with any other shop. I use their services once or twice a month for years since I live nearby. Yes, they are friendly, especially with their more frequent customers. I've used their whole range of services, dry cleaning, hemming pants, & tailoring fine dress shirts. Fine Details: I recently had an experience I'd like to right about. Two months ago, I had them take in the sleeves & bottom hem of a "barong," a formal dress shirt. I was charged me $25, the fit & finish was great. Having had that experience, I took two similar shirts to get the same service, taking in the sleeves & bottom hem. For those two shirts I was charged $100, a 100% percent increase in service charge. Not sure what warranted the additional charge. I assumed that I was asking for the same service that I would be charged the same price, just weeks prior. Be forewarned, that is not the case. Buyer beware. read more

I had a review posted here for about 2 years and it has been removed. I will recap that review and I would like to think that it won't be removed as well. In short, I had a few negative experiences including damaged shirts and clothes that were returned dirty and pressed. I asked about the clothes not appearing to be cleaned and was told that they did not have time, as I requested next day service. Yet they tried to deceive me by pressing the shirts and taking my money. I noticed this before on many occasions but would always forget to ask. This particular time, the shirts were really dirty and I easily noticed them not being cleaned properly. No refund offered and no offer to clean the shirts properly. I did inquire for an estimate to clean my wedding dress and they mention it would be at least $200. The prices are pretty on par with other shops around the area. It's very convenient to drop-off/pick-up our dry cleaning while shopping at Giant since they're in the same shopping center. read more

As soon as you enter, they greet with ma'am or sir and always very polite to say thank you & have a nice day! I have been going here for a long time and I always save the hangers to take back. Cosmo Cleaners tailoring skills are fantastic. My daughter is getting married in a few weeks and she ordered her dress from Etsy. We took it to Cosmo for the fitting and while it just needed some minor work from the waist up (adding a hook above the zipper, repairing the sticky zipper) the train needed to be redone considerably. In addition to not having any bustles to put the train up so the Bride could walk around post ceremony, it was too wide. While the tailoring was not inexpensive, it was very skillfully done and we knew we were in good hands. We picked the dress up this evening and it is now PERFECT. I've used Cosmo for my (rather meager) dry cleaning needs over the years and have always been pleased with the service. This year I've had several formal wear occasions and post event cleaning was always well done. They also hemmed my own gown for the wedding and minimized the train on that dress as well. I think their rates are fair for the work involved. It's not easy finding good tailoring nowadays. I wouldn't trust anyone else. read more

Cosmo may not be the cheapest cleaners around but they are pretty good. There are no specials, deals or discounts (as far as I can tell) so there's no reason to wait to take things in. They do offer "In by 9, ready by 5" service but that's at a premium cost. Most often, regular drop off can be ready next day by closing. They also have an on site tailor that does really good work and listens to your needs. Again, not the cheapest but better than buying all new clothes. Personally, I've never had an issue with them or their services. read more

I've used this cleaners off and on for the past 5 years, mainly because it's close to home. But they are expensive compared to other cleaners and not really worth the price. Today, I went in for alterations and waited for a while for someone from the back to even wait on me. When someone came up to the front and I told her that I was there for alterations, she indicated that I needed to come back later. What kind of way is that to run a business? I took time out of my day to run an errand and she wants me to come back later? Final words of advice: For a while, they had a sign posted by the cash register that offered a discount for positive Yelp reviews so I wouldn't entirely trust the positive reviews seen here. read more

Pretty good cleaners. They were very friendly toward Deaf/Hard of Hearing. They immediately recognized that I couldn't speak or hear, they then grabbed paper and pen and communicated with me. They were also pretty good with quick service. In today and out tomorrow. That's what impressed me. Better than the one down the road near my home. Cosmo has been the most reliable and customer service friendly cleaners that I've ever dealt with. The facility is nice and accommodating. as noted in the title, this is not a dry cleaners. Of course they can renovate they have 75% of the business in this expensive west springfield area. I am not however flush with cash and cannot afford to have my few items I dry clean come out greyish and discolored due to the wet process they use. They will not reimburse for damage - I saw a woman haggling with the owner for well over 15 minutes about the same issue. read more

I've used Cosmo Cleaners to do alterations on formal gowns in the past for me. The first time they did a pretty good job. Two weeks ago I took in a red gown where she specifically told me that she would "let out in the back" because the gown was a bit too snug across my chest. She charged me $35 for the alterations. In the meantime I took in another gown (a black one with sequins) for the same thing. This time she charged me $45. I asked why the difference in the price and she said that she would have to "stretch" the gown along with "letting out". Upon getting my gowns, I requested to try on the black one because I wanted to make sure that the sequins were still in tack. Once I got the gown on, I realized that it was still tight, as if there was never any alterations done to it! I told the seamstress that it appeared that there was nothing done to the dress. She called one of the girls from the back and started speaking in her language. I told both of them that I was not going to pay $45 for a dress that appeared to have no alterations done to it. They told me that I could not get my money back, at which point I told them that I had not paid yet. I guess they forgot that I had not paid. I paid them $35 for the red gown took my gowns and left. Once home, I tried on the red gown and was appalled to see that she never did "let out in the back." Instead it appears she ripped the stitching in the zipper area. If I wear the dress, eventually the stitching will completely come apart. If I could give no stars, I would. Giving them one star is one star to many. I will never return to this establishment ever again. They are not consistent with their pricing, and I feel that they are completely dishonest with their customers by ripping them off. read more

I have mixed feelings about Cosmos. I came here based on the good reviews and in an attempt to avoid the exorbitant prices of Crest Cleaners. I have used them for three things: Shirt laundering, dry cleaning, and alterations. The laundering service is good and the price generally is as well. Six shirts run about $11. They will press the sleeves for no extra price. I've never had them fail to get a stain out. That said, I had a comforter laundered once at the steep price of almost $40 (twin size). Dry cleaning is ok but more pricey. I have lost buttons, but no more so then any other dry cleaner. That said, the price is less than others, about 15-20% less. Alterations, on the other hand, are poor and extremely pricey. I have never had an alteration that didn't have a mistake, a failure (buttons falling off, etc.), or lurch at the price. I understand this is DC but I haven't paid this much anywhere else. And given the poor quality, I won't be using that service anymore. read more

I have had more than a few bad experiences with the service from this cleaners. I tried to use this cleaners for a while out of convenience and they are open for pickup on Sunday. They are also fairly nice people. However, my clothes have been lost, and returned dirty a few times. I have brought this to their attention, but I just receive a polite "sorry sir". The last straw was picking up dirty clothes on a Sunday and being told that they don't have enough time to get them cleaned properly when using their next day pick up. Why offer this as an option if it cannot be done properly? I was still charged and offered a poor excuse. No refund or credit. read more

Really bizarre customer service. I brought a coat in to get dry-cleaned. The woman said "down coat" (apparently, they charge more for down), and I said, "no, it's actually not down" and showed her the materials listed on the tag. She then argued with me, and I said I was just going to go to a different dry-cleaner if she was going to charge me unnecessarily, and she said "ok" and I left. They are not very customer service oriented and the final straw was when I had a pair of expensive dress slacks dry cleaned there were several dark red stains down each pant leg. I talked to the management and they refused to acknowledge it could have been cleaner or chemical or something and their only suggestion was that it was blood. Was better under previous owner who cared about quality service and their customers! We have been coming here for over 20 years and always had good service but in the past year, since the new owners took over, it has all gone downhill. Always had husbands dress shirts cleaned and boxed and they came out of the box with one or two fold marks, but nothing that you couldn't shake out. Now, under new owners, the bottoms of the shirts are bunched up and totally wrinkled along with the sleeves being bunched up and wrinkled as well! Not just one or two shirts and not just a couple of times -- every boxed shirt, every time they have done them. Most recently, I took in 4 dress shirts to be cleaned and pressed and on hangers -- normal cost is around $1.85 a shirt. All four shirts are exactly the same cotton blend and style, just two solid colors and two stripe colors -- that's it, even the same maker for all four shirts! They charged me $1.85 each for two shirts that they listed as shirts and then $5.50 each for the other two that they listed as blouses! WTF?! When I asked the woman behind the counter why the different charges, she tried to tell me it was because there is more pressing to two of the shirts. I showed her that all four are the same, so how is there more pressing to two of them and not the others?! Total rip off and trying to charge more for a woman's shirt (calling it a blouse) than a regular shirt!!! This is enough for us to NEVER go there again, no matter how close to home it is. After over 20 years they have lost our business -- and my son's too since he was taking his work uniforms there weekly. read more

Their customer service has improved, they have attractively renovated, and their prices are competitive compared to comparable cleaners in Springfield and Burke. Keep an eye out for the Money Mailer coupons, which significantly reduce the fee, especially if you have a volume of dress shirts to be laundered. read more
