Dinner at the bar last night and had great service! For apps - had the burrata, arancini and oysters. All 3 were good but the burrata was amazing and the clear star!!! Next we had a pizza and the shrimp cannelloni. Had to fight my boyfriend for the last bites of the cannelloni - we will definitely be back for it. Finished with the sfinci - yum!! Only heads up - finding it and parking is a bit tricky - and getting through the parking garage out is a tight squeeze with valet double parking the corners and exit ramps. read more

I've had this restaurant bookmarked for a while now and used our anniversary as an excuse to try it out. We took advantage of the complimentary valet and was seated a few minutes ahead of our reservation time. Our server, Will, was fantastic. He was very enthusiastic of every menu item we ordered, reassuring we made the right picks! We opted out of getting entrees and instead ordered a few small plates. We got the Fritto Misto, Pizza Semplice, gnocchi al forno, and polpette (meatballs). The Fritto Misto was lightly fried and came with a yummy spicy marinara. The gnocchi felt like we were eating fluffy potato pillows and the garlic cream sauce was *chefs kiss*. The meatballs were very tender and served with a homemade marinara sauce. Finally, the pizza. I love wood fired pizza and this pizza had the right amount of crisp and the sauce was very fresh. For dessert, we ordered the sfinci (Sicilian donuts) and torta al cioccolato (chocolate cake). The donuts were brought out in a brown bag and Will shook the bag prior to pouring the donuts in a basket. They were warm and perfectly coated with cinnamon sugar. The chocolate cake was rich but not in the way where it was too sweet to hurt your teeth. It was just sweet enough. The worst dining experience I had so far! They have a very unprofessional and rude waitress, she used to run into our table and take our plates away, without asking anything, despite there were still foods inside. She who spilled the leftover soup all over my coat at the first time she came and took plate back rudely, and she kept laughing all the time after spilled the soup. No serious apologize was received from her. When I was taking a break from my desserts, a large portion was still left in the plate.The same waitress just came and took my spoon and plate without asking anything. We came with a large group of eight on the first night of Baltimore restaurant week. Luckily, it was easy to get a reservation despite it being a Friday night. The ambience at this place is great, it's tucked down an alleyway and an old brick building that makes you feel like you're somewhere in Europe, not 10 minutes from downtown Baltimore. Since it was restaurant week, we all dined with a $45 fixed price three course menu. The menu looked fabulous, but the food didn't quite reflect what we thought we were getting. To start with, the bread we received was fantastic. Next, for appetizers, the Caprese salad looked a little underwhelming and like something I could've made at home. The vegetable soup was also extremely salty. The three people at our table who got the soup were unable to have more than a few sips of it because of how abnormally salty it was. For main course, we got a few different things, the best of which was probably the bavette steak and chicken. The chicken was especially moist, and the mashed potatoes were rustic. To finish, our dessert standouts included the flourless chocolate cake, which was topped with a delicious cappuccino cream, and a pistachio cake with the loveliest orange glaze on the side. Overall, this was a charming dinner experience that was fun for a large group. However, if the restaurant week menu and food quality is indicative of their normal offerings, then I would likely not be returning to pay the full price for the dishes we received. read more

I had been to Cosima a few years ago and I had been itching to come back given that I had such a nice experience. However, my more recent trip really missed the mark for me. We unwittingly came on the first day of restaurant week and were sad to see that there was no option to order off the regular menu. Understandable, but a little sad given we really wanted to try their pastas. We ended up ordering off the restaurant week menu and the food was fine. I got the burrata which was served alongside very anemic / pale looking tomatoes (expected given we were squarely outside of tomato season). I also got the salmon which felt really charred / burned on the outside. Perhaps good for others, but just not for me. The Tiramisu was unremarkable. Overall, the ambiance of this place is quite nice. We were seated downstairs which is definitely popping albeit a little cold depending on where you sit. Our server was ok, but somewhat ill-informed (e.g., first telling us we could make substitutions, then telling us we could not, and then coming back multiple times to tell us something was unavailable to order). I will chalk that up to it being the first day of restaurant week. I absolutely loved Cosima the first time we went a few years ago, so perhaps may go back and give it another chance. I definitely think it is a no-brainer to come here for a drink / app to enjoy the vibe. Proceed with caution otherwise! read more

We had a lovely time at Cosima. The valet was a nice touch, but when we went to leave the valet drivers were just missing and we had to go into the garage to get our cars ourselves. Not a big deal but a little weird. The atmosphere was delightfully rustic with exposed brick and minimal holiday decor. Classic and classy. We got the burrata appetizer which was amazing. We also tried to order the gnocchi Al porcini with a mushroom ragu, but they were out and so we substituted for another pasta alla Norma with eggplant ragu which was very fresh and tasted wonderful. They also apologized and gave us a free dessert as a sorry, which was appreciated. We would definitely come back and would recommend to anyone looking for a elegant dining experience. We came for dinner a few days ago. A little difficult to find the restaurant, but once you do it has such a nice rustic charm to it inside and outside. The service was great and the wine list was solid too. There is complimentary valet parking and a lot up the hill from the restaurant. We as a group sampled the calamari, roasted Brussels, and burrata with pesto. The burrata was our favorite! So soft and flavorful and the pesto was fresh. The calamari was a little softer and chewier than what we prefer usually. For dinner, my husband and I split the casarecce pasta and the margarita pizza. That particular pasta was was light / not heavy and the sausage and broccoli rabe were cooked well. Several friends in our group got the pasta and loved it. One friend got the pork dish which seemed quite size-able. The pizza was also a nice accompaniment for the dish and was a personal pie size. Would definitely come back! read more

I simply would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Food: One of our guests asked the waiter if the mushrooms could be separated from the gnocchi plate. The waiter communicated that the plate only had mushroom powder, and that there would be no actual mushrooms in the dish. Because of this information, this dish was ordered and once it came out, the majority of the plate had mushrooms in the dish. The waiter did not seem to warn us about this. The branzino fish was not properly cooked, as it still had red blood within the fish once opened, had to be sent back to have it cooked more. Service: After we had paid for our bill, the waiter came over to communicate to us that she had actually given us the wrong check that we had already paid for. Parking: we parked our car through the free valet system. Once we got home, we realized that our car had had several things missing. I contacted the restaurant for weeks to get camera footage and after 3 weeks of persistent emails and calls, I got a very monotone email with very little sympathy or solution. read more

Overall we had a great experience in a beautiful space but the food was a bit inconsistent. Made reservations through Resy for a Friday night for a group of 5. Our server, Mark, was informative and friendly. The menu was a QR code that comes up on your phone, which, for a nice restaurant, I really don't appreciate. I like to see the whole menu at once without scrolling up and down to review things. I'd recommend bringing back hard copy menus as a default or at least offering them to customers. We ordered cocktails which took a little bit of time but they were made with care and all were pretty good! I got the Citta Vuota, which was a sparkling gin cocktail. It was different and light, with herbal and sweet flavors. I would recommend it for my gin lovers! We got a bunch of appetizers for the table - the meatballs, the calamari, and the Brussels sprouts. All were good, I think the Brussels were the standout. The calamari actually came with fried shrimp which was nice but only 2 shrimp. For entrees, most people got the special which was a beef short rib. The main issue here is that the dishes were widely inconsistent. Some short ribs were very fatty and others very meaty. Needless to say, my friend who got he fattier one was a bit disappointed. That said they were still delicious and they came with a creamed butternut squash and smashed fried rosemary potatoes, which were great. I got the Pasta Primavera. It was ok, a little tasteless. I needed to add salt! I think the dish needed a bit of lemon juice and salt to add some flavoring. For a $30 pasta entree, I was disappointed. The biggest disappointment were the cannolis for dessert - for an Italian restaurant, these were not good. Cannolis are my absolute favorite dessert, so this was tough for me! Filling was pretty much like whipped cream, way too light and fluffy. Despite some food quality issues, we had a great time, the cocktails were tasty and some of the food was good. For the price point, I'm not running back but at some point I'd give it another shot. read more

Only tacking off points because I made a reservation ahead of time, and the host said our table wasn't ready. That understandably happens sometimes, but only for a couple minutes. We ended up waiting a half hour after our reservation time to be seated, and the entire time there were multiple tables open. This happened to other groups as well. A bit odd. read more

We went to Cosima for Baltimore restaurant week which had a prix fixe meal of 3 courses for 45 per person. We sat in their balcony/patio area and it was a very pleasant summer night to be dining outdoors. For apps we both got the chilled honey melon soup which had a bit of a kick from some Calabrian chilli oil or something. It was very refreshing. I was very happy with my entree of salmon atop a bed of chickpeas with tomatoes, olives and onions. But my boyfriend was very disappointed with his pasta pomodoro. The bucatini was definitely overcooked, almost mushy and the pomodoro sauce wasn't seasoned well. I tried it for myself and I agreed, it was a let down for an entree course. The dessert was a lovely Panna cotta which we both enjoyed especially with the berry sauce. Service was 11/10. All in all I would recommend Cosima but I hope in the future they make sure that they aren't overcooking their pasta and working a bit harder on their seasoning for the pomodoro. read more

I was really looking forward to Cosima becoming a new date night spot with the beautiful outdoor views and seating but unfortunately had a bad experience. This was my second time coming to Cosima, the first being for a graduation dinner which was ok/not memorable. There is complimentary valet and we got drinks at the bar while waiting for our table. Drinks were good and we sat outside by the water but didn't have a view of it- we came for restaurant week which is $45pp plus automatic 20% gratuity for 3 courses. They do not offer their regular menu during restaurant week. I ordered the burrata which was an additional $5 for some reason... The appetizers took about an hour to come out and out food came out 5 minutes later due to weird timing of the kitchen. The burrata was good, can't really mess that one up. My partner got the meatballs which came out on a "hot" skillet that was actually cold and the meatballs were underwhelming and dry. We were pretty hungry so we continued on. For entrees we got the salmon and couscous, we ended up sending the salmon back for lack of flavor, when we told the waitress she said "i know, it needs salt" and we noticed people around us also sending their food back. Even the green sauce didn't taste like anything. The couscous was good, because we were hungry but overall would never spend over $100 for such a disappointing meal. The seafood didn't taste fresh and the sauce felt out of a jar. We asked for our dessert to go and they took $20 off the bill. The waitress was great, attentive, but the kitchen was upsetting. While it may be a bit hard to find for those who don't know the area well, the decor is beautiful and the ambience is wonderful. The service is very friendly and top notch. I was a bit underwhelmed by the food, especially given the fact this restaurant is not priced modestly. We started with Brussels sprouts and a fondue dip. The fondue was delicious - really filling. The tasty melted cheeses combined with the spinach and artichoke really tasted great. The Brussels sprouts weren't my favorite - overcooked - too charred. They didn't really have a crisp bite to them; rather, they fell apart due to being overcooked/fried/baked or however they were prepared. While the pork chop was nice, the part closest to the bone was not even close to being cooked. Felt uneasy eating it. Taste was good overall though. The accompaniment - the couscous - was extremely dry and lackluster. No taste. Really bland. Not good with the pork chop. Would've tasted way better with a light risotto or an orzo pasta accompaniment. My wife felt the polpo nero was way too smoky - overwhelmed the dish. At $36, it was a gamble and it didn't live up to the anticipation. We were excited to try the donuts. They ended up being brought to the table in a paper bag that contained cinnamon and sugar, shaken up and dumped out into a dish in front of us. Interesting presentation, except none of the cinnamon or sugar stuck to the donuts. Instead we had a pile of cinnamon and sugar in which we had to dip our donuts, which were just small balls of almost tasteless fried dough. Underwhelming to say the least. Went to Cosima spur of the moment on a Friday night. Place was packed and bubbling with people! Our server was very kind and made several lovely recommendations. We had the burrata with extra crostini for sharing, mussels, and meatballs. We tried the pasta alla Norma and loved the flavors but would have liked more pasta as the portion was skimpy. Loved the pistachio ice cream (made in house!) and got the donuts. At the end we waited for our complimentary valet in front of their toasty bonfire! It was a perfect night! read more

We went during restaurant week and found a nice selection of options for each of the three courses, along with a la crate pizza pies. The appetizers were delicious, along with most of the components of our mains. Service was a little scattered, but that may have been due to busy RW peak dinner hour. The desserts were well prepared, including a very well set panna cotta with luscious silky texture. So, Cosima is hard to find. It's entrance is at the bottom of a sharply declining driveway. There is no sign that readily identifies the location, but there should be. Ladies, beware, the drive/path to Cosima is not only a steep hill, it's paved with bricks, making the trek in heels perilous! My suggestion, if one takes a Lyft or Uber, is to be dropped off at the small lot down from the restaurant driveway and take the stairs, traveling around the back of the building on much safer pavement. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Rustic, but with very modern decor and service areas. The lighting was low lit and flattering, except when taking pics of anything but food, definitely go outside to the patio for that. The patio is very nice too, though the scenery is kinda garbage. The view is the back of a depressing building and a stream. If you keep your eyes on the patio itself, you're golden. Overall appearance is perfect date material. The service...well, I was there for Night Brunch, so getting the bartender to notice me, then take my order was a feat. The wait for a table seemed forever, but that's my fault for getting there so late. The service at the table was iffy. Sometimes the waiter just magically appeared, other times I had to flag him down. On to the food and drink. I had the rosé, 3 glasses in fact. It was decent. My friend and I split an entree of chicken and waffles and pizza semplice (which was a fancy way to say basic pizza). 1/2 a waffle and 3 chicken tenders for $18...it was delicious but I wish there was more of it! The pizza was indeed basic, but a much better value at $14. That was how I pulled off getting full. Consumers beware, Cosima has red pepper flakes but no hot sauce! I feel my reviews of venues I've gone to for Night Brunch are a bit unfair. Service is usually bad because of the large NB crowd and the restaurants offer a special menu for NB that may not represent the best they have to offer. What a perfect restaurant for a birthday celebration. When you enter the building you are surrounded by the aromas of wood fire. The bar area is attractive and inviting - with a hip vibe. The place has a spot to suit everyone- from a couple of small nooks to indoor seating that can feel intimate - or create a sense of community- whatever you are in the mood for. The outdoor patio overlooks the Jones Falls. I would choose to sit there next time. The service was attentive without being intrusive. We had very good wood-fired asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and the salami pizza, which was one of the best pizzas I have eaten. The pasta dishes were amazing. I loved my pasta with eggplant, olives, and golden raisins. Husband ate pasta primavera. Lovely, light lemon cream sauce and lots of perfectly cooked asparagus. There was enough of each dish to take home for another meal. Yet, we had more! Lamb shank with risotto and shrimp on polenta. I recommend both of those entrees. I came here for Night Brunch, so the menu is probably different than a typical day. Free valet parking! The valets parked my car in the garage right by the restaurant. The turn to get down the ramp to the restaurant is REALLY sharp--keep that in mind when driving. Cosima is an upscale Mediterranean/Italian restaurant in a charming, rustic mill house. Steak and eggs: was juicy and I loved the unique tangy/sweet/spicyness of the sauce. It was called "cherry bomb pepper agro dolce." It tasted great both on the steak and with the potatoes, which were well seasoned. The Fettucine primavera was good: the cream sauce was delicious but didn't feel too fatty or heavy. It had more vegetables than pancetta, but I would have liked it reversed. Chicken and waffles: DELICIOUS! The bourbon caramel syrup was unique and sweet but not overly so. The maple whipped butter was the perfect pairing, and it also tasted great with the bread from the basket. I couldn't detect much garlic on the chicken, but I liked that it was boneless and very crispy. The waffle itself was a bit too hard, but I would rather have it too crispy than soggy. Complimentary bread basket: usually I don't mention it but other reviews mentioned a lack of bread. Our basket was brought out after the first dish (it would've been nice if it came out earlier). It was an airy bread with a fruity, nutty note. I looked like raisins (or some other dried fruit) is baked into it. Service was incredibly polite and decently attentive. Water vases are left on the table to pour as needed (I always love this at restaurants because I drink a lot of H2O.) Pricy, but good quality food and service. I popped into Cosima during Restaurant week for a pre birthday celebration and was pleasantly surprised at the food and slightly annoyed at the service. Parking is a little odd.. you have to drive down a steep narrow alley with a valet at the bottom, and valet is the only option. Good thing is complimentary. The night started with a few drinks at the bar. The bartender (whose name I don't remember, sorry) was decent. I think the amount of people overwhelmed him a bit because he forgot a few drinks in our party. But when he did make the drinks they were great! He was great at explaining them and making them all sound delicious. Then we moved over to the table service left a lot to be desired. I had the meatballs as an appetizer. They were good, nothing super exciting but I would eat them again. The Porchetta was amazing! The serving size was huge, the meat was cooked perfectly and the gravy was seasoned to perfection! I was a little annoyed that they charged me for extra gravy but fine.. for desert I had the chocolate cake that was pretty bland. I ate part of it out of obligation and the rest I left at the table. I never had another drink at the table one because the bar drinks were pretty strong, and two I don't remember the waiter ever asking me. When desserts rolled around half the table had to re order because they were out but they had us select them at the beginning of the meal.. the service mishaps we had were mostly due to mis organization but overall my experience was great. This review is for the cooking class offered at Cosima. I signed up for the Handmade Pasta and Sauces class that took place earlier this week, and I'm so glad that I did! The class was led by Donna, who is the Concept Director at Cosima, and she is Cosima's very own granddaughter. That alone gave the class an extra personal touch and it was clear that she is very passionate about her craft. There were about 25 people in the class, so it was quite a large group. I was concerned the class would be more of a cooking demonstration because of the group size and how the room was set up, but that wasn't the case at all! We were able to take part in the pre for each dish that we had. We started out by making cavatelli pasta at our tables, and the class progressed into more difficult pastas such as fettuccini and ravioli. We were able to be as hands-on or hands-off as we liked throughout the class, so if you're shy or mostly interested in eating, you can still enjoy this class. Now keep in mind this is a restaurant and not a cooking school, so their goal is mostly for the food you eat to be delicious and up to their standards. As a result, we weren't as involved in the sauce making or preparation of the sides that accompanied the pasta. A lot of things were prepped in advance to help speed the class along, so guests mostly helped with creation of the pasta. Even so, I enjoyed the experience very much and felt like I learned a lot. Donna was very thorough and knowledgeable, and she answered all questions that were asked of her. She was also very accommodating of vegetarians in the group, making sure they had meal options like everyone else. Our class even ran a bit long, and she packed to-go containers for a few couples that had to leave to put their kids to bed. So sweet! Overall, the class was lots of fun and a great value for the amount of food, wine, and learning that you get. Not to mention that the restaurant space is beautiful and the food was delicious. It was such a treat to come here. Came for Friday dinner. Lovely ambience. First off, I could tell that the food was made with care and made fresh. I went with a group so we were able to try a lot of things: - Bread: excellent (seems like a small detail but it really was very good) - Of the appetizers/small plates we tried, the burrata stood out! Fresh, crisp flavors. The brussels sprouts were quite... toasted... but was saved by the vinaigrette. Would not be my strongest recommendation unless you want to be reminded of the times you overcooked your brussels sprouts. We also tried the meatballs (good) and the calamari. I think I was expecting a bit more out of the calamari but it was still good. - Got the bronzino as my main, as recommended by our waitress and also because it looked good on the menu. It was the size of a whale (exaggerating) which was a plus, but the charred-ness overwhelmed the taste so I couldn't quite appreciate the other flavors. The fish itself was still quite tender. The salad that came with the fish was very nice. - Finished off with tiramisu, which is a strong choice Other notes: - The outdoor heating could have been a little stronger but it still was not too bad to sit outside. - Service was excellent. - I had never been here before, so with the road closures and the darkness and my second guessing myself, I found it very difficult to find the parking garage on their website. It is very nice though that they do have designated spots for the restaurant. Overall, I would come back again for another special occasion (given the price point).
