My family decided to make this place a pit stop on the way home (albeit a bit out of the way) from visiting Mt. St. Helens in Wa. The waitress was a bit flighty, but nice and had reasonable timing. Half the tables were dirty, but I can't speak to the number of waiters/waitresses staffed. I think there were two and we saw three other people in the restaurant when we came in. However, within twenty minutes, another seven to nine arrived. My husband and I ordered the burger. My children ordered the double hotdog meal. A word to the naïve: the hot dogs are huge! My kids both said they would have ordered a single hot dog meal had they known and they are eaters. Our burgers were disappointing. They patties are straight from the mass production freezer junk. The only thing that made them appetizing was the grill cooking method lending them some flavor. My meat patty had a large unappetizing chunk of gristle in it. Yuck! My onion was red onion and very fresh and delicious. The pickles were a bit vinegary. The tomato was your typical under-ripe tomato. Honestly, with a mom and pop local joint, I was really hoping for local sourced food and unique flavor. It didn't have to be fancy, just fresh. The season waffle fries were delicious! I definitely recommend them over the regular fries. Another nuisance was the potato salad. My dh got the fries and half his plate was covered. I got the potato salad and it was literally an old time small ice cream scoop size if that; two, maybe three bites! I don't eat much, but after leaving part of my burger due to gristle gross out and then that tiny smidge of potato salad, I left hungry. As others have said, this is food you could make for a lot less with cheap mass produced stuff from any grocery store for less than a quarter the price. The service was nice with free angled parking out front and the ambience of the location was charming. Unless they change things up, we won't be back. read more

Love stopping in at Corner stone, great food friendly service! Staff always seems happy to be working with each other. The only recommendation I would have is maybe find a way to bus tables a little faster, we always feel bad sitting at a dirty table while waiting for it to be cleaned, but I guess that just means their busy. read more

Had lunch here yesterday. Bacon burger- didn't impress me because the hamburger patty just tasted like fried hamburger without any seasoning. French fries- the only good food-- crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Coffee- bitter & burnt tasting; quite gross. Was never asked for a refill which I would have refused. Service- quite inferior. We weren't acknowledged when we entered, we sat at the table for more than 15 minutes per my watch: waiting for menus and for someone to ask if we wanted anything to drink. When a server finally did come over for our drink order, she went somewhere only to never be seen again at our table (there were six of us) but she was waiting on other tables just not ours. Then another server came over to us and asked what we wanted to eat, well we still never received our coffees, waters and sodas, so she did go back to the kitchen to get the drinks and waters! Was that first server having a bad day? But after the second server came back with our drinks, she took our order which arrived at a descent time- we didn't have to wait until Christmas for our food. This was my first trip to Oregon and I was hopeful the food would be good in this small town. I ended up here after I decided I would rather not eat at all if I had to eat in Longview. I loved that they had a mysterious curtain that cloaked a seedy gambling room which I had to partake in before leaving. Food was really good! My first visit was this past Sunday-late morning. I drove from Tualatin, OR and my girlfriend from Olympia, WA--discovered it was a convenient 'meet in the middle' location for us. Very cute, love the décor. A table was available upon arrival. We were ready to order for quite some time before our order was taken. Both of us ordered Soup (broccoli) and Salad. The Soup was tasty and the Salad was made with fresh ingredients. Our meals were prepared and brought to us in timely manner. Coffee and Water were frequently refilled. We both ordered pie, Lemon Meringue for my friend and I ordered Peanut-Butter. The Peanut Butter Pie was by far the BEST I've ever had!! We will be back....!!! read more

Waited 10 minutes at a table before we were even acknowledged. I watched another couple come in and sit at a dirty table for also about 10 minutes, the server was too busy chatting with someone at the counter to bother cleaning tables or get drink orders. When we finally got coffee, there were no refills, however,the server put her fingers in a dirty glass of water as she was cleaning a table and then grabbed the top rim of the coffee pot, so I guess no refills were a good thing. Also her hair was down and she seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. The food was good. But after watching the waitresses, I wonder how clean things are. I thought that I would update my review. I have been coming here for about 2 years now and still love it. I love the breakfast here. It is always fresh and flavorfull and usually more than I can eat. They have no issues with special requests, changes and/or substitutions. They also have a great special all the time. The staff is always amiable and quite enjoyable and will chat with anyone and about anything. It is just an enjoyable place to go. No, there is no air conditioning. Well, so what. That rules out coming here one or two days a year. I am not retired but love to talk to the other regulars that are. If you fish or would like to, there is always on old seasoned fish-veteran that can point you to hot spots. Nothing wrong with that. If Vickie is there, she will usually make it around to see how you are and remembers faces well. She and the other staff are upbeat and friendly and that makes for a nice visit as well. I have never had any issues with food here and know for a fact that others have had easy fixes to stuff that was an issue. They seem to care and want your experience to be good. read more

On a roadtrip, desperately hungry, I searched Yelp and found this place. The other reviewers are a little too positive about the food compared to what I experienced. Ever seen Kitchen Nightmares? Well, this place could be on that show. It's small-town cute walking in: there's a big community board and tons of shabby chic junk on the walls with inspirational sayings. The waitresses were extremely cheerful and friendly people, really, they could not have been sweeter, but the food is just the opposite. It's edible, but left my stomach aching to throw up the grease bomb within it on the ride home. I ordered a plain burger that dripped grease when I bit into it. I ate less than half my portion of fries, which are reheated from frozen, like much of the menu. Maybe they are trying to save money, but the result is food that has no love in it. I should have held out for the Burgerville in St Helens where their menu holds some hopeful buzzwords like "local" and "fresh". And please, rip out your super-stained blackened carpet. Great stop off the highway with a nice selection of homemade items. Servers working hard with a smile. I had the hot roast beef sandwich and it was fantastic and comforting. Nice selection on the menu. My kids started with cheese sticks and used the yelp check in award. They were cooked perfectly. Stop in and enjoy a family owned Classic American restaurant. We've eaten here a couple times, definitely a "locals place" The pancakes are really good, and the bacon eggs breakfast is average. The decor is very nice. the service however is not great if you aren't recognized by staff. Staff seems to be more attentive to regulars which is a mistake. As out of towners will recommend a friendlier spot. read more

We were looking for a local eating spot on our way back from Mount St. Helens and found this one yelp. The places is incredibly homey and the local conversations really showed this was a local favorite. Our server was very nice and our food was out quick. Oh, and it was amazing! My girlfriend got the Hawaiian chicken sandwich that was juicy and full of flavor. I got a roast beef melt and it had melt-in-your-mouth beef roast piled into it and grilled to perfection. It offers a view of the river and all the port activity as well. Definitely stop in! read more

My husband and I ate here a few weeks ago. I ordered a sandwich and when it arrived the bread was burnt black. We didn't see the waitress for a good 10-15 minutes so I just scraped as much of the burnt bread off as I could and ate what was left. When the waitress finally came back she noticed a pile of ashes on the table and said "oh that sandwich was a little burnt huh?" Thankfully we had a coupon so it wasn't a huge waste of money. Cornerstone Cafe is on our list of restaurants to revisit, and we have, over and over and over. From the casual ambiance to the staff that treats you like family, Cornerstone Cafe is a great place to eat. Offering wi-fi, it's a great place to have coffee (and pie?), chill out and linger for a whole. They never make you feel like you're a bother. Burgers are great, and one of my fav's, the Southwestern Chicken Salad is huge and delicious. They have take out too, and saved us when we first moved here by cooking us breakfast to go.
