Had lunch with my mom here today. We had the Monte Cristo sandwiches with fries and onion rings. Everything was amazingly delicious! I've been craving a good Monte Cristo and it's difficult to find any place that makes them. This sandwich was the best Monte Cristo ever! I will definitely come back for another and also check out other items on the menu. Additionally, the decor was so cute and had a comfy feeling. Service was excellent as well. September 2024, and it is open. Very small, but cute restaurant..maybe 6 tables? Should take out benches and put the tables against the wall so the waiters can get through the narrow passageway. To start, my service dog was refused entry, which is against Americans with Disabilities Act. I found this off putting as it seems this RV park is home to many retirees, which may likely have service companions. Masks required. Social distancing was being practiced, tables were spaced accordingly. Our table had a direct view of the kitchen. The cook wasn't wearing a mask. On top of that she was also not wearing a hair net nor was it pulled back. As she was cooking our food she kept running her hand through her hair and repeatedly pinning it behind her ears. read more

We stopped here at 2:30 on our way home from Oregon because the hours are posted that they are open until 3. I walked in to ask about lunch. Since No one was up front I walked around the corner where I was informed by the employee that they were basically closed. I said your sign is on and your hours are posted open until 3. She said "we want to be out of here at 3 but maybe I can make you a sandwich or something." No thanks, but maybe shut off the sign and post your hours correctly. I've been here before for lunch and it was good. it's been about 2 years now and we came back for breakfast on our way up north. we ended up sitting down in their outside enclosed patio section. because it was warmer out there than inside. it was very, very dirty. we ordered 2 orders of biscuits and gravy, and 1 side of bacon. the biscuits are dense and tasteless and the gravy is bland. the combo makes for not a very good meal. the bacon is a cheap brand, and was undercooked. all in all not a good experience, besides the waitress being very nice and helpful. I will not return, and won't recommend this place anymore read more

Stopped here with my husband on our drive between Portland and Seattle - we are always looking for a hearty breakfast and Fireside Cafe delivered. Who needs IHOP!!! My parents and I ate here for a morning breakfast and it was absolutely delicious and satisfying. The Denver Omelet is packed with all the fixings. No skimping! The Virginia biscuits and gravy with real sausage and an egg over easy tucked under the gravy was amazing! I'm a fan of well seasoned baby red potatoes, and these hit the spot just right! The man in the kitchen the day of our visit, Dan, takes pride in his foodie creations and reaches out to each of his patrons to thank them for coming in. We start off by asking for a gluten-free option for one of our friends who's legit allergic, only to find out that neither the waitress nor chef have any idea what gluten is. We decide to take our chances and stay. The waitress comes back with our water and apologizes for the noises coming from the "pets" in the chimney, she explains that her guess is that it's either birds or bats. The food was mediocre at best but so was the price which makes it kind of okay. One good thing: they did have healthy ketchup with natural ingredients and without high fructose corn syrup.... Unfortunately the deep fryer was broken so we didn't get fries to enjoy it with. read more

Fireside Cafe is the kind of restaurant you see in shows like Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. The food is from scratch, the portions are big enough for any appetite, and the service is friendly and glad to help you if you're (likely) having a hard time picking from all of the delicious choices. We ordered cinnamon rolls (2 - one for each end of our large party's table) and 2 monster rolls came out. They were fresh, delicious, and undoubtedly the best I've ever had. Every food item that was ordered: Shortstacks, omelets [Taco, Hawaiian], biscuits and gravy, eggs and bacon, and a waffle were enjoyed fully and lots of, "You have to try a bite of this," type chatter started the meal and then everyone set into the silence of happy eaters that comes with every delicious meal. read more

The hard tack (or ships biscuit) like "biscuit" was almost 'eat with a knife hard' and tasted like it came from the Mayflour (get it FLOUR.. ) anyway you could have killed a charging Gazelle with one after it was soaked. You know how it is... you're driving down an Interstate, hungry, and desperately wondering whether you can find somewhere that a) isn't a McDonalds, b) isn't several miles from the highway, and c) isn't a McDonalds. You see a sign saying something like "Mom's Kitchen" and, encouraged by the name, decide to take the exit, only to find - after you've located it 20 minutes later between a nail salon and a Chinese laundry in a strip mall ten minutes from the interstate - that it's a big chain restaurant specializing in three-day-old meatloaf. I will confess to harboring such cynical thoughts when I saw the Fireside Cafe sign on I-5 at Kalama in southern Washington, but my wife and I decided to check it out anyway. What a delightful surprise. Not only is it 60 seconds' drive from the off ramp, but it's a lovely little cafe which features very friendly service and good, cheap food. No, it's not gourmet (hello, it's a roadside joint), but much of what they serve is made from home-grown ingredients, and the food is hearty, satisfying and better than you'll find at 99% of places within spitting distance of an interstate. For which reason, we award it five stars: not because it can compete with fancy restaurants serving the latest yuppie unpronounceable dish du jour, but because it's a fine, unpretentious little place run by nice people who serve cheap, tasty food that'll refresh you and keep you going for the next couple'a hundred miles. read more
