I got a BLT- was the best BLT I've had in a long time. Lettuce was fresh, tomato's were crunchy, bacon was cooked perfect and the Texas toast was toasted perfect, not overly toasted where it hurt the roof of my mouth! My boyfriend got the chicken strips, fries with bbq sauce. They were hot and crispy/crunchy. Staff were friendly and patient as it was our first time here. Place appeared to be clean and well lit. If it means anything- we ate in silence that's how good it was! We will definitely be coming back here! read more

Exceptional. Extra helpful counter-person, and food was prepared with care. Very delicious!

We visited because we want to support local businesses but am wondering why? The food was okay. $40 for two bacon cheeseburgers, an order of onion rings, a drink and a milkshake. Not sure it's worth the support. read more

Always great burgers and service. I want to try the halibut next time. Only weird thing is , the hamburgers taste exactly like the burger joint in cascade locks. Not that that's a bad thing. But you'd swear one person cooked at both places read more

Ordering was very easy with the best customer service I had in a very long time. Prices are a little more than usual but makes up with the quality of the food! The best French fries! Very crispy and you feel the crunch right down to the last bite! The Chocolate Malt was absolutely delicious! And they had a little beeper to take to the table which beeps when food is ready to serve, letting the server know exactly where it goes. I've never had a better experience at any burger place no matter the place. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I've driven by The Burger Bar in Kalama countless times over the years, and finally decided to stop in on my way home from Mount Hood. Sadly, I left disappointed. The burger patties were thin, gray, and completely unseasoned, like they forgot flavor was part of the recipe. I paid $9 for a basic cheeseburger that didn't even come with fries. At that price point, I could've gotten a full 3-piece chicken strip basket with fries somewhere else. It makes no sense to charge $8-$9 for a "quarter pound deluxe" when the patty is barely there, bland, and honestly felt like an afterthought. This was one of those meals where you eat it and immediately wish you'd gone somewhere else. The staff was nice, they could probably clean the tables in the dining room, a little bit better but other than that.. I'm all for supporting local spots, but the quality has to match the price. Unfortunately, this didn't come close. read more

Dont be fooled by the charming appearance. Not only did we wait at the drive through box for 20 minutes before someone remembered we were there, but we also got sick from the food later. Really bummed, we wanted to like this place. read more

My 6 piece Jalapeño Poppers cost $9, they were served by an old grumpy guy, they were very burnt and no side of sauce was given. Also, the taste was GROSS! I've had much better poppers at the bowling alley for half the cost. The ice cream is decent though. read more

I wish I could say I loved this place because I live in Kalama. I've always been let down. Never make my order correctly. The burger has come out a weird gray color twice. We haven't had a good burger in a while! We were driving from Federal Way, Washington and the wife had to use the bathroom. So I stopped at a gas station, but noticed this burger spot as I passed it. Chris hadn't eaten yet, so I figured we'd try their burgers. The place was full as well as the parking lot. I parked on the street. All we wanted was a cheeseburger each. We ordered their Classic Deluxe Cheeseburgers with crinkle fries. The cheeseburgers were excellent. The flavor reminded me of old school burgers from my youth. They had great flavor! The fries were kind of limp and needed to fry longer. I like my fries crispy. I almost docked them for that, but my review are on their burgers. There is a reason this place is packed with customers. If you're in the area passing through and are a bit hungry, this place is worth a pit stop! read more

Ridiculous prices for a bunch of frozen food. I paid for a bacon cheese burger and fries - it cost $16.20. For reference, you can go to Applebees or Red Robin and get a burger, fries AND a soft drink for $10. I've eaten here dozens of times, but it seems to have recently come under new management or somesuch, and they jacked up the prices something fierce. Will never come here again Edit: To respond to the owner, thank you for taking the time to read my review. I did find a photograph online of the menu prices exactly three years ago, so prior to your price change, (https://img.restaurantguru.com/r30c-Kalama-Burger-Bar-menu.jpg) when a deluxe burger + fries + soft drink cost $9.85 - and as a reminder, this was in 2022-23, so well after the Pandemic caused lots of things to increase in price already. If you were to get on the Burger Bar's own website today (https://theburgerbar-kalama.com/), you have to get those items ala carte (maybe that's not the case in person, but online, you must order ala carte; combo meals are not an option) and that brings the total to $16.20. 'Rising food and labor costs' do not amount to an 80% price increase in three years (9.85 to 16.20) read more

We have driven past the Burger Bar numerous times, heading to and from Portland, for years, all the time saying "We really want to try this place one day". Well. One day came along! After dropping our daughter off at PDX, my husband and I agreed that a burger and fries sounded like a nice meal to get before the final 1.5 hour drive home. We swung into the Burger Bar and were struck by how decent the prices were. We both opted for the 1/4 lb burger, mine with onion rings and husband with fries. He also ordered a chocolate milkshake. The waitstaff was friendly and hustling! It was busy and those kids kept up, all with smiles on their faces. The dining area is seat yourself with wide chairs and tables. It's not huge, but a decent size and we didn't have any trouble finding a table. Our food was delivered to the table quickly. Hot and yummy! The onion rings were excellent. Crispy and golden. The burger was tasty. The meat was a thin patty, and didn't look hand patted, more like a thin, frozen pre-made patty. That kind of disappointed me, but, to their credit, it was tasty. Honestly, a very respectable greasy spoon kind of burger. Exactly what we were in the mood for! The crinkle cut fries were fried to a perfect golden crisp as well. And, the chocolate shake rounded the meal off nicely! The menu is large with some great options to try, so my husband and I agreed we'll definitely be back to do just that! Next time you're driving past Kalama, consider swinging into the Burger Bar and giving them a try! read more

Kalama Burger Bar was awesome! When I saw how inexpensive it was, I got a little nervous. I shouldn't have been. The service was great. They got the order right and they got it cooked fast. The burgers were fantastic! I had an extra patty on mine and two patties was the perfect sized meal for me. The burger was juicy and seasoned well. The bun was soft and fresh. The French fries were next level! Meaty and cooked to an ideal golden brown. Great location, great service, great food! read more

Did Burger Bar change hands? I ordered a cheese burger, it came w/o cheese. When I went back to the counter I told them what happened but still wanted to charge me for more cheese. Was here just yesterday. 10/09/25 Had the Cod fish and chips- except we chose potato puffs. Exceptional. They took our order pretty quickly and delivered our food to the table quickly as well. We ordered Teriyaki Burger Fish & Chips Calamari Platter with Onion Rings & Coleslaw Kids Hamburger 2 Fries 1 Small Milkshake 1 Medium Coke In total we paid $66 before tipping. Typically, I love to support small local businesses, but my experience with customer service tonight was very disappointing. I arrived just before the dinner rush - the parking lot was almost deserted and no one was in the drive thru. I went through the drive thru and, as is the routine, was given my ice cream and asked to drive around to the front to wait for my food. They even had numbers to give out this time, which was new. I waited about 20 minutes and watched someone who went through the drive through after me get food. I decided to call and was told that my food would be out in 1 minute. I waited another 5 minutes before I started getting my kids out of their car seats. Just as I got my kids out and was about to head in, someone brought my food out to me - roughly 27 minutes after I ordered. When I asked why my food took so long I was told "we are just so busy and backed up." When I brought up that someone else, who came through the drive thru after me, had their food minutes ago the staff member looked at me like a deer in headlights. I asked to talk to a manager. When I went in and asked the manager why my food took so long I was told they had given my food to the wrong car (cause apparently the numbers are just to look pretty) and they had to remake my food. I told him that they should have been honest with me when I called and not fed me some line about my food being out in 1 minute. I explained that I had ice cream melting in the car and it was unacceptable to treat a paying customer this way. The manager stared at me, not even offering to replace the ice cream. Normally when we get home the food is still piping hot since we don't live far. Upon arriving home the food was tepid and had to be warmed in the microwave. The fries were practically uncooked and not at all crispy. Honestly, based on my experience today I won't return. read more

My husband and I always stop here when passing through. The burgers are really good...love their house sauce! They're kind of old fashioned...big and thin. If you're looking for a thick burger, get the double. We always get the bacon cheeseburgers and share a large fry. They only have the old school crinkle cut fries here. We sometimes share a milkshake too...they're good and very thick! Not many fresh options though...they use syrups to flavor their shakes. The customer service is hit and miss. We've had both friendly and crabby service. Would recommend if you're in the area. They have a drive-thru and private parking lot available. read more

The Burger Bar - Interior (order counter) - Burgers Near Me - Kalama, Washington

This used to be the place to go to get a great burger. I hear they changed ownership recently. Since then, it's gone way downhill. I understand raising the prices on the menu...inflation and all that. I ordered the Captain's Plate. This is something that I've ordered from this place regularly. Now you get 1 very small piece of cod that is cooked horribly. Seriously, I went to pick it up to take a bit and the breading split in half and fell off and the fish inside was mush. The shrimp and scallops were cooked until they were the consistency of rubber bands. You get 3 tiny bay scallops and 3 butterflied shrimp. These aren't even big enough to be considered prawns. You get a helping of stale fries underneath this mess. You don't even get a lemon wedge for it. The coleslaw tastes like the top fell off the pepper shaker. It's completely inedible. The kicker to all this? This place charges $14 for all this mess. This is completely frigging gross and not even close to being in the ballpark of edible. Save yourself some money and just go buy some gas station food. It's exponentially better cooked than this glop. read more

The Burger Bar - This is the Captain's Plate. Save yourself $14. It's not worth it. That's not even halibut. It's very poorly cooked cod. - Burgers Near Me - Kalama, Washington

We were in Kalama for gas and saw the Burger Bar. We had stopped a quite some time ago but couldn't remember if it was a great place or what. Through the drive-through line that moved a little slow. You order when you get to the window. We weren't too pleased that we had to go park in the lot after we ordereded. However, the wait was really worth it. The hamburgers were excellent and the fries were hot and delicious. It's a great place and definitely worth moving through the line and parking. read more

We've passed this place a million times and I was always curious to try it. Definitely a small town burger joint type of feel. Seemed the Decor on the walls was a bit dusty and could use a hood cleaning/update. But the food was good. I liked the burger and the sauce was reminiscent of Big Mac sauce meets BV special sauce. I enjoyed it! The onion rings weren't great, a lot of beading very little onion. But over all, not a bad pit stop for a quick bite on a road trip. Reasonably priced and friendly service. read more

Very expensive for a little hometown burger place. Nothing special about the burgers they could be way better the fries are good . The milk shakes are fresh and good but the ice cream cones are way over priced for what you get. Seems like the owner needs to spend more time there as there are only kids working there whenever we go there. The dining room has been freshened up and it is clean just wish they added their own spin on the menu since there are new owners there now. Have been wanting to try this place for a while, and finally had a chance to drop in on a recent motorcycle trip. Right off of I-5, Burger Bar is a convenient pit stop on your north-south road trip through southern washington. The restaurant is clean, bright, and welcoming with great parking and a drive-thru (I ate in). I ordered the 1/4lb deluxe with American cheese, crinkle cut fries and a chocolate milkshake. $20.70 total. Food arrived at my table in a few minutes and it looked great. Fries: perfectly cooked and seasoned - crispy and flavorful. Fry sauce was ok - a bit mustardy for my taste but remedied with some extra ketchup. Burger: perfect bun! These are hard to find. It was fresh-baked and soft and just the right texture. Ingredients on the burger - lettuce, tomato, onion, and house sauce were all fresh and flavorful. Chocolate shake was rich and chocolatey (can't tell if it's real ice cream or not, but great nonetheless). Overall very happy and will be back on my next trip through the ar read more

We went through the drive-thru and then ate at a picnic table out front. The kids working were friendly. They did bring us our food after pulling around front, but we didn't mind that and it wasn't a long wait. The burgers were super thin, but the lettuce, tomatoes, and buns were fresh. Overall, pretty tasty. I liked the fries, even if they are frozen crinkle fries, because they were a nice balance of thick and crispy, and they weren't greasy. Food & service was probably 4 stars based on this experience, for what it is. The problem: We went inside to use the bathroom after eating, and it was the dirtiest eating establishment I've ever been in. The bathrooms were gross, but even the entryway had dirty floor and walls. If I had gone in first, I wouldn't have eaten there. (And not effecting my stars, but a note: they had a snarky sign about the mask mandate. Agree or disagree, there's no point in being bratty about it.) read more
