And they had a little beeper to take to the table which beeps when food is ready to serve, letting the server know exactly where it goes. I got a BLT- was the best BLT I've had in a long time. Lettuce was fresh, tomato's were crunchy, bacon was cooked perfect and the Texas toast was toasted perfect, not overly toasted where it hurt the roof of my mouth! I really wanted to like this place. I've driven by The Burger Bar in Kalama countless times over the years, and finally decided to stop in on my way home from Mount Hood. Sadly, I left disappointed. The burger patties were thin, gray, and completely unseasoned, like they forgot flavor was part of the recipe. I paid $9 for a basic cheeseburger that didn't even come with fries. At that price point, I could've gotten a full 3-piece chicken strip basket with fries somewhere else. It makes no sense to charge $8-$9 for a "quarter pound deluxe" when the patty is barely there, bland, and honestly felt like an afterthought. This was one of those meals where you eat it and immediately wish you'd gone somewhere else. The staff was nice, they could probably clean the tables in the dining room, a little bit better but other than that.. I'm all for supporting local spots, but the quality has to match the price. After dropping our daughter off at PDX, my husband and I agreed that a burger and fries sounded like a nice meal to get before the final 1.5 hour drive home. We swung into the Burger Bar and were struck by how decent the prices were. We both opted for the 1/4 lb burger, mine with onion rings and husband with fries. He also ordered a chocolate milkshake. The waitstaff was friendly and hustling! It was busy and those kids kept up, all with smiles on their faces. The dining area is seat yourself with wide chairs and tables. It's not huge, but a decent size and we didn't have any trouble finding a table. Our food was delivered to the table quickly. Hot and yummy! The onion rings were excellent. Crispy and golden. The burger was tasty. The meat was a thin patty, and didn't look hand patted, more like a thin, frozen pre-made patty. That kind of disappointed me, but, to their credit, it was tasty. Honestly, a very respectable greasy spoon kind of burger. Exactly what we were in the mood for! The crinkle cut fries were fried to a perfect golden crisp as well. And, the chocolate shake rounded the meal off nicely! The menu is large with some great options to try, so my husband and I agreed we'll definitely be back to do just that! We haven't had a good burger in a while! We were driving from Federal Way, Washington and the wife had to use the bathroom. So I stopped at a gas station, but noticed this burger spot as I passed it. Chris hadn't eaten yet, so I figured we'd try their burgers. The place was full as well as the parking lot. I parked on the street. All we wanted was a cheeseburger each. We ordered their Classic Deluxe Cheeseburgers with crinkle fries. The cheeseburgers were excellent. The flavor reminded me of old school burgers from my youth. They had great flavor! The fries were kind of limp and needed to fry longer. I like my fries crispy. I almost docked them for that, but my review are on their burgers. There is a reason this place is packed with customers. Typically, I love to support small local businesses, but my experience with customer service tonight was very disappointing. I arrived just before the dinner rush - the parking lot was almost deserted and no one was in the drive thru. I went through the drive thru and, as is the routine, was given my ice cream and asked to drive around to the front to wait for my food. They even had numbers to give out this time, which was new. I waited about 20 minutes and watched someone who went through the drive through after me get food. I decided to call and was told that my food would be out in 1 minute. I waited another 5 minutes before I started getting my kids out of their car seats. Just as I got my kids out and was about to head in, someone brought my food out to me - roughly 27 minutes after I ordered. When I asked why my food took so long I was told "we are just so busy and backed up." When I brought up that someone else, who came through the drive thru after me, had their food minutes ago the staff member looked at me like a deer in headlights. I asked to talk to a manager. When I went in and asked the manager why my food took so long I was told they had given my food to the wrong car (cause apparently the numbers are just to look pretty) and they had to remake my food. I told him that they should have been honest with me when I called and not fed me some line about my food being out in 1 minute. I explained that I had ice cream melting in the car and it was unacceptable to treat a paying customer this way. The manager stared at me, not even offering to replace the ice cream. Normally when we get home the food is still piping hot since we don't live far. Upon arriving home the food was tepid and had to be warmed in the microwave. My husband and I always stop here when passing through. The burgers are really good...love their house sauce! They're kind of old fashioned...big and thin. If you're looking for a thick burger, get the double. We always get the bacon cheeseburgers and share a large fry. They only have the old school crinkle cut fries here. Now you get 1 very small piece of cod that is cooked horribly. Seriously, I went to pick it up to take a bit and the breading split in half and fell off and the fish inside was mush. The shrimp and scallops were cooked until they were the consistency of rubber bands. You get 3 tiny bay scallops and 3 butterflied shrimp. These aren't even big enough to be considered prawns. You get a helping of stale fries underneath this mess. You don't even get a lemon wedge for it. The coleslaw tastes like the top fell off the pepper shaker. It's completely inedible. The kicker to all this? This place charges $14 for all this mess. This is completely frigging gross and not even close to being in the ballpark of edible. Save yourself some money and just go buy some gas station food. It's exponentially better cooked than this glop. read more

Right off of I-5, Burger Bar is a convenient pit stop on your north-south road trip through southern washington. The restaurant is clean, bright, and welcoming with great parking and a drive-thru (I ate in). I ordered the 1/4lb deluxe with American cheese, crinkle cut fries and a chocolate milkshake. $20.70 total. Food arrived at my table in a few minutes and it looked great. Fries: perfectly cooked and seasoned - crispy and flavorful. Fry sauce was ok - a bit mustardy for my taste but remedied with some extra ketchup. Burger: perfect bun! These are hard to find. It was fresh-baked and soft and just the right texture. Ingredients on the burger - lettuce, tomato, onion, and house sauce were all fresh and flavorful. We've passed this place a million times and I was always curious to try it. Definitely a small town burger joint type of feel. Seemed the Decor on the walls was a bit dusty and could use a hood cleaning/update. But the food was good. I liked the burger and the sauce was reminiscent of Big Mac sauce meets BV special sauce. Very expensive for a little hometown burger place. Nothing special about the burgers they could be way better the fries are good . The milk shakes are fresh and good but the ice cream cones are way over priced for what you get. Seems like the owner needs to spend more time there as there are only kids working there whenever we go there. The dining room has been freshened up and it is clean just wish they added their own spin on the menu since there are new owners there now. They did bring us our food after pulling around front, but we didn't mind that and it wasn't a long wait. The burgers were super thin, but the lettuce, tomatoes, and buns were fresh. Overall, pretty tasty. I liked the fries, even if they are frozen crinkle fries, because they were a nice balance of thick and crispy, and they weren't greasy. Food & service was probably 4 stars based on this experience, for what it is. The problem: We went inside to use the bathroom after eating, and it was the dirtiest eating establishment I've ever been in. The bathrooms were gross, but even the entryway had dirty floor and walls. If I had gone in first, I wouldn't have eaten there.
