Oh Cornerstone, you have definitely disappointed me.
When my family was in town to celebrate my sister's bridal shower, we thought it would be great to go to Cornerstone for dinner that night. My sister and I joined my dad and stepmom (who were intoxicated at the time) at a table outside, and we each ordered a glass of prosecco. The waitress checked our IDs, put the order in, and then came back to take our food order, during which time we ordered an appetizer and a pizza. About 15-20 mins later, the appetizer came out, but no prosecco. When we asked where our drinks were, the waitress responded "I decided I will not be serving you alcohol." We asked to speak to the manager, and he responded that Maine state law indicates that if a waitress does not feel comfortable serving an individual(s) alcohol, they are not required to. We responded that we understood, but that we would like to cancel our pizza order and go to another establishment, where we would be served. The manager refused to cancel our order, and when he delivered the pizza to our table, I told him we did not want it, and do not wish to be charged for something that 1) We asked to cancel, and 2) We did not consume. The manager responded by boxing up the pizza, slamming the pizza box on our table, and charging us for the full amount. To top it off, the manager then CALLED THE COPS because he did not think we were going to pay our bill. It was rather entertaining to see 4 cops show up to our table asking about paying the bill, when it had already been paid in full. Great use of our taxpayers dollars. The manager claims in his response that he called the cops because he was concerned about us "stealing" and not signing the bill. Well, when I disputed the charge with my credit card company, I immediately won the dispute. Again, it was not about the $17 pizza. It was the principal of the matter, in which the manager would not let us cancel our order, and when we said we don't want it, he boxed it up on our table to essentially force us to take it.
Now, not being served alcohol was not the problem in this situation. The problem was how the waitress and manager handled it. It should have been clearly communicated to us BEFORE we put in our food order that we would not be served, because at that point we would not have even stayed. And the unprofessionalism and immaturity of the manager to slam a pizza box on our table after we told him we did not want it, well, that was the icing on the cake.
I will also let it be known that we went to three different establishments after that incident, and had absolutely no problem being served, so I still am not quite sure what the issue was. But I do know that I will never be back to Cornerstone, because I have never, EVER, been treated that poorly in my life.
In response to Mike C:
1. I didn't realize that my dad having a cut on his face would justify the service that my sister and I received. But thank you for confirming what we already thought - that you were judging us based on what he looked like. Also, why would the waitress check our IDs as soon as we sat down, if we didn't order drinks until after the order came out? The only reason you "calmly" boxed up the pizza was because you insisted on charging us for something that we tried to cancel and did not consume.
2. It's funny that when the police showed up they did not seem to find any issue with our table. It's even better that when I disputed the charge on my credit card, it was immediately resolved in my favor. Oh, but my apologies for typing "four" instead of "two" cops. Have I mentioned how well you respond to customers? Your people skills are impeccable.
3. If we didn't order any prosecco, why would the waitress check our IDs when we first sat down, and then later when we asked where our drinks were, respond "I decided not to serve you." If you had such mixed messages, wouldn't the waitress just explain that she didn't know we wished to order drinks? But nice try trying to spin the story to make it seem as if my sister and I were drunk and can't remember the chain of events. Again, if we were that drunk, why would three other establishments in OGT have no issue serving us after we left?
Also, Yelp's review guidelines state that colorful language is fine, but there's no need for threats. Goes to show, again, how professional the owner of Cornerstone is, because he threatened to call the cops on me if I ever went back.... read more
