Talked to Sharla and Alex about an occasional funny sound coming from my old 113k mile 2003 Ford Expedition to see if they could find out the cause. They not only knew what it was already because they have experience with it, they taught me how to reproduce it and proved that my theory (catalytic converter) was wrong (it was 4 wheel drive hub actuators). They also explained a bunch of other items in their inspection that I always had wondered about (so THAT'S what that was, cool). I own ten cars, a lift, and can do anything from suspension to engine builds by myself. I didn't tell them that at the beginning, just to see how this turned out. Every word they said was dead on professional, fair, complete, thorough, and honest. We even talked about a little rust starting and the fix v. sell decision. No one ever WANTS to go to the mechanic, and when my car died on the side of the road on my way to work, the first thing I thought about after panicking about my lack of sub plans for the day was how badly I was going to get taken advantage of by an unfamiliar mechanic about an hour from home. (And how much is that Uber to Boulder?) I had my car towed here because it was close and the reviews were good. They did not disappoint! Sharla and Joe were both incredibly warm and personable. Within minutes they'd diagnosed the problem, gave me an estimate and had the part delivered in half an hour. Maybe they took pity on me because of the car seats in my car, but my car was repaired within hours (enough time to hang out in downtown Golden and chat with the folks at the Visitor Center, who also praised Corner Mechanic for their work in the past). While I was waiting on my car, another customer came in and asked for an estimate, and after receiving it, he was encouraged to shop around to compare prices. I went in for a small oil leak. I was very shortly diagnosed with a major repair that I had to replace my head gasket. This was a job totaling $2500!!! The lady there was very dramatic stating she could hear the knocking in the engine and did I want to look at it? Well I wouldn't know what I was looking at but people told me that oil does not leak visibly from the head gasket. I took my car to another shop, with a well known good reputation, for a second opinion. Turns out that the leak was not oil at all, but power steering fluid. I had my power steering pump replaced for $437!! It fixed the problem. I don't know if this was a big mistake on the part of Corner Mechanic, or they were just trying to scam me. I tend to lean toward scam. I suggest you don't take the chance. I have heard they used to have a great reputation but these owners are fairly new. read more

Joe took the time to go through the price quote, check out my vechicle, run some tests, and we discovered that the other shop was lying and Joe showed me the proof. I cringe every time I think of this place. I've never felt so victimized. I took my 2008 Envoy (less than 100k miles) here in January. We had to junk the vehicle based on their workmanship (they broke 9 bolts on the cylinder head - that's BAD, like "now you should just get a new engine" bad) & misdiagnosis. We went into Jefferson County mediation to try and resolve rather than going to small claims court. We reached a mutual agreement with the help of the mediators... but within a few days, the owner called to say he wouldn't comply with the mediation agreement that he had signed! $8,000 blue book value down the tubes. Save yourself a major upset and go somewhere else. If they mention anything about your cylinder head/head gasket, have them stop work and run!! read more

I took my car to the Corner Mechanic for an oil change and tire balance. They didn't change the oil and the engine seized. When I called them they said they had no record of my having scheduled an oil change, and since they didn't do the work they weren't responsible for the car breaking down. read more

Joe at Corner Mechanic called me a horrible customer. I have worked in customer service since I was old enough to work, and I have seen some horrible customers. I've been cussed out and stiffed and insulted. But no matter how horrible they were, I never insulted them back. And what did I do to deserve being told I am a horrible customer? I asked questions and brought my own parts. He told me that the carburetor now worked "alright" but he couldn't adjust it right, but he still expected $456 dollars for "overhauling" the carburetor. When I questioned having to pay for repairs that were incomplete he said he wouldn't work on my van anymore. He kept cutting me off when I said I didn't want to pay for the repairs if the van still wasn't fixed, and he threatened to scrap my van. I told him he was providing horrible customer service, and he responded that I was a horrible customer, and something along the lines of "I don't need this." I gave it a week before I posted any reviews so I could have a clear head when relating my story. I have put a lot into the van but now I have no more money, as I was forced to pay for the repairs, and so I will scrap the van myself. I was my own bad luck I got a lemon, but when the van was dropped off we asked if we could bring our own parts and we assured that was fine, and we also told them that we had a budget and needed to know if total repairs would exceed a certain amount. Then I got yelled at for bringing my own parts and a van I could drive before I took it to them runs worse than it did before I took it in and won't start. The remains of the carb-rebuild kit he gave me with my invoice includes a bunch of unused parts that would be in the carb if they had actually rebuilt it comprehensively. If I had been horrible and cursed him, I could understand his reaction. But the bottom line is: He didn't fix my van, he charged me full price to not fix my van, he clearly didn't know what he was getting himself into if he didn't realize what needed to be done to the carb, and he insulted me when I was upset about the above information. I didn't curse or yell or anything, I just asked too many questions. Yup, ol' Joe may have worked on my van for four or so hours, but he didn't fix it. But it's fair that he gets paid for that work. You should know though, all he wants is his money, and he certainly isn't there to help you. read more

I live near these guys, and they very kindly brought a jump box to my house today when I found myself with a dead battery. Friendly prompt service, and they did me this favor free of charge. For other services (rear brake replacement) their quote was over $100 lower than Goodyear, although I haven't bitten the bullet to get the brakes replaced yet. read more

I have really enjoyed working with Corner Mechanic. They are friendly and often find ways to lower the cost of things. They called me this morning and quoted me a price and after I told them that it was too expensive for our family he went back out and looked over the whole project again and discovered that there was another way to fix the issue that was almost half the cost. they are honest and friendly and I whole heartedly recommend them! read more

I was on a business trip when my vehicle began overheating. I was in need of immediate help. Joe (the owner) took it upon him own self to look into my problem and had us back on the road in an hour and a half. Something in my engine was squealing, and I wanted it fixed. I also needed some power steering fluid and a wiper motor fixed. I went to this place knowing that they weren't going to be cheap, but wanting to have the job done right. Paid 650 dollars, and to their credit, they got the power steering fluid in there and replaced the wiper motor, also replaced a bunch of belts to make the squeal go away, but the squeal came back after a day. Got louder and louder, and when I brought the car back in they decided that the squeal was being caused by a bad water pump, and wanted to charge me an additional 200 and some odd dollars to fix that, in spite of the fact that whatever they "fixed" with all those belts they swapped out didn't "fix" my car. I took the car to a different mechanic, and they quickly discovered that the water pump had nothing to do with it, it was a problem with the tensioner. Corner Mechanic would've drained me for about 900 dollars and STILL not have fixed my primary problem. It's too bad, since they came highly recommended from a personal friend, but they blew it with me. I won't be recommending them to any friends with car troubles, unless those friends want to spend a lot of money and still have car troubles, that is. read more
