I brought my Lexus in for a CV boot repair. They ended up rebuilding the axle and replacing the boot -- not replacing the entire axle -- for a whopping $1,100. Even with OEM parts, this is far above the norm. For reference, an OEM CV boot repair with axle work on a Lexus typically runs $700-$1000 at reputable shops in Colorado, depending on whether it's a full replacement or a partial rebuild. The initial agreement was for them to inspect the vehicle first and then call me to discuss next steps before doing any work. Instead, they never called. After four hours of silence, I called to check in -- only to find they had already started the work without my approval. The shop seems to rely on verbal approval rather than written confirmation, which is not only unprofessional but also risky for their own protection as it can easy lead to misunderstandings. To make matters worse, my car now has a slight shake at speeds over 70 mph, which it didn't have before this repair. This raises concerns about the quality of the work. Communication was poor throughout. I was told I'd receive a follow-up call on Monday to discuss the situation, but it's now been 4-5 days and I've heard nothing. The staff member also couldn't spell my name correctly, even after I corrected him three separate times. Based on my experience, I would not recommend bringing a Lexus or Acura here for suspension or axle work. Overpriced service, lack of communication, and questionable workmanship -- I won't be returning. read more

I was referred by my neighbor to take my car to this shop. After researching reviews on different platforms on this shop, I knew my little car would be in good hands. After taking her (my little car) there, I have all good things to say about the team at Japanese Automotive Service in Wheat Ridge, with their 40 years in business. Matt, with his stellar customer service skills, JT the sound whisperer, Doc the calming guru, Chris with his talented repair skills, and Ross the confident owner. The work I had done on my little 2005 Toyota Corolla was as follows, right and left ball joints, struts, camber kit, caliper, alignment, drive belt, brakes bled and fluid replaced, and an oil change. What I liked best is that you get before and after photos of the work done and they check other things that may need work down the road and will advise you. She, my little car, is running like a top thanks to the team at Japanese Auto, they are skilled beyond words! Also, ask about their Technet card to use for major repairs. I have taken my 200k+ mile Land Cruiser in twice now for 30,000 mile servicing and both times have been very happy with the work. Matt and Doc were quick to respond on the phone and via their web service page, upfront estimates were reasonable (and final cost was actually less), and the work was done on time. Mine has been mostly routine service work but they were also able to fix a fan issue that was buried in the dash and way above my ability to fix, really thankful they were able to fix it so I didn't have to take it to a dealer! Overall the work and communication have been great, they did what they said they would do, pricing was fair, and they have not tried to upsell anything so that adds up to 5 stars for me, highly recommend! read more

Very disappointed in Japanese Auto Service. My daughter took her 2006 Corolla in for a brake noise. They charged $567 to diagnose an unrelated non-urgent issue and recommended a $1500 repair. I WOULD NOT use them again. read more

My Subie Outback windshield washer stopped working during my last trip to A-basin. Not a good situation for driving the mountain passes. I called the afternoon I returned and they were able to schedule me the next day. The problem was fixed in less than a half day at a very reasonable price. So during our Denver vacation, the day after Christmas.. our car's brakes went bad on us. Went to Honda dealership ... only to be turned down. No availability. They advised us to go to Justbrakes or Midas. Being a good Yelper, I just Yelped this place. Decided to trust Yelp's reviews. They are located in area which has many auto service centers.. a good sign. In a few hours they identified the problem and the next day on Dec 27 we got our car back. Really appreciate it. The bill also came back reasonably priced. It's not our first time dealing with bad brakes so we kinda know the average price for fixing brakes. read more

After struggling with car service with my dealership, I'm glad I found this place on Nextdoor. Drop off was easy. They got the work done quickly, no hassles. They even fixed my oil pan, which was all jacked up. The waiting area was nice. Another good thing is that this location is close to the potential, future, maybe G Line train. If it ever opens, it will be so easy to drop off my car, take the train to Union Station, get some work done, and come back. No hassling with Uber/Lyft, coordinating a pick up, or hanging in the waiting area. A girl can dream, right? read more

They quoted me 150$ less to replace my pads and rotors, not shave them. I came to your shop for an oil change and a brake check a couple of weeks ago, and I was charged $250. Today I feel incredibly accomplished. After getting a $1,700.00 quote for a portion of the the work needed on my Honda (speedometer not working) from this business, I did some research. I did 30 minutes of total work (takeout and install), 5 screws, a trip to UPS, a 5 day wait, and about $200, I had my original, fully functioning speedo and gauge cluster ready for another 20 years. I could see a $400 or even $500 dollar quote, and I would have paid it. It's as if they did not want to do it. Don't get me wrong, the work I did pay for was quality, if not a little over priced. This is by far the best place to get your car serviced. I've been bringing my Honda CRV here for the past 4 years, since I drove it off the lot. They are honest here, no crazy up sell, and they only recommend what you need. During these hard Corona virus times, the guys are wearing gloves, they sanitize your car when they finish and offer you hand sanitizer on the way out. That is above and beyond! Our family, now four different households, has depended on Japanese Auto to keep many cars maintained and repaired as needed, for over a decade. They have met and exceeded our expectations in both regular maintenance and in a few out of the ordinary cases of damage. They are very busy, usually 10-14 days out for regular maintenance, but have got our vehicles in for repair quickly in a couple of emergency situations. Took my 2001 Toyota Sienna with 220,000 miles in last Friday. I received a tune up, timing belt change, and they replaced a solenoid that was making the car run rough. I first just took it in at 8:30 in the morning for a tune up, thinking that would fix the car's rough idling, It didn't. So they thought that either the timing belt had skipped a gear or two accounting for the rough idle or it could be a faulty solenoid. I was going to have the timing belt replaced the next week anyway, however since it could have been a timing belt issue I decided to have it done that day. It is a big job, and their team was able to fit me in that day! They had a loner car for me to use so I would not be stuck there all day! The manager even replaced the solenoid which turned out to be the problem with free labor! I spent over $1,200 in all but now my Sienna runs just as good as when I bought it (well worth it!). I change my own oil and replace whatever lights that go out. I have never taken my Sienna in to a mechanic since I bought it used over 5 years ago with 120,000 miles! $1,200 is not bad considering this fact! This garage is not the cheapest in town, but the prices they charge reflect their quality, hard work, knowledge, and honesty! Plus they are way more reasonable than any Toyota dealership out there! read more

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. We've been going to Japanese Auto Service for 22 years, ever since I took my Camry there and Steve said I needed a rebuilt engine but I could get it for much cheaper from the dealer. He was right about that and was saving me money instead of making some for himself, even though I was just a walk-in and not a long time customer. That gesture sold us on the place and we have never taken my cars anywhere else. And since then, I have countless stories of Steve providing us with advice on the most economical way to get our cars fixed. We live 45 minutes away from Japanese Auto Service but we still take our cars down there, even for easy oil changes. They look out for us and tell us when something should be repaired, either now or "eventually." No risk here of the mechanic changing your oil and coming up with a laundry lists of vital repairs that need to be done. They only want to repair what has to be repaired. Steve is a big fan of "letting it ripen up" if it is not a safety concern and it is hard to get him to fix something that doesn't need to be fixed. In old cars, he has even been known to point out that you don't really need second gear if the repair is over $1000 and the car is barely worth that much. You gotta love that. They are patient with their customers and answer all your questions, even the stupid ones, without making you feel ignorant. If they don't see the problem you report with the car, they work with you until they find it and then they fix it, but only if it needs fixing. And when they fix it, it stays fixed. Now we only buy Japanese cars because that is the kind Steve and his guys work on. And before we buy a new car, we ask them their opinion on the model (or the actual car if it's used) so we don't end up with a lemon. It has worked for us! read more

The only reason I am giving this shop a low score is because my simple oil change was $101. I've never in my life been charged that much for an oil change. I won't be going back simply for the reason that they charge way too much. Nice guys at the shop - but make sure you compare their prices to other places. read more

I called to get a quote about some work I needed to get done on my 1989 Nissan 300ZX. I assumed that a company who's name sake is Japanese autos would be able to at least give me a price on trouble shooting my problems. The man on the phone wouldn't even give me a round-a-bout figure. When reading this you may ask your self, what kind of sorcery is wrong with this guys car, well I'll tell you. My passenger seatbelt won't work. I know... it's one of those problems that stump the best of the JDM mechanics. The man told me he would have to call Nissan to even begin to tell me a price. Then I asked if he could tell me a price to trouble shoot a fuel leak. I was dreaming. I was told it could take minutes or several hours to figure out where the fuel leak was. At that point I was nervous that this guy was new or just trying to get me off the phone. I inquired about the labor rate... this was the only thing this guy could answer. $112.50 an hour. I felt like he was leaving everything so open ended that if I brought my car in I would end up with a lot of extra cost on my bill. I don't trust any mechanic that won't give you a straight answer or agree on a price. I didn't give a one star because I'm sure they can do oil changes and the basic mechanic stuff. Just make sure you know exactly what you are getting yourself into if you chose to go to these JDM gems. read more

I just had my first experience with these guys working to get some issues fixed with my highly-customized 4x4, and it was a great experience. My customer service agent, Doc, communicated clearly and frequently such that I always knew when my truck would be complete and how much it was going to cost to do the fix; he's also just a great guy in general. The work itself was highly custom in nature beyond what a typical auto shop can do competently (installing high-end custom parts, welding, etc.), and the mechanic that worked on my car, Joe, did a fantastic job (also a great guy who is highly experienced with Toyota 4x4's). Don't hesitate to bring your Japanese vehicle hear....they'll get the work done right and for a fair price. read more

I had an alternator repair which included the belt tensioner. Very soon after repair, there was a noise from the engine which I ignored but after about 3 weeks, my wife brought it back. Like the pros they are, they diagnosed it and then replaced the tensioner (no change in noise) and then the alternator (the original one they put in turned out to be defective). The noise totally disappeared. All of this was done cheerfully under warranty. Anyone can have a problem if a new part is defective but It is nice to find a place with integrity that stands behind their work. read more
