This is the overall best Subaru mechanic I have ever encountered. Uber competent, highly ethical and fair repair costs.

My family and I have been going to Buddy ever since he was at the old Leo Payne Subaru dealership off of Wadsworth Blvd in 1976. Most reliable and trustworthy mechanic Colorado has ever known. He treats everyone with respect and even when he is busy he still finds time to test drive or do a quick diagnostic. If he didn't work on a particular part of the car i.e transmission repairs he would send you to a reputable garage. Today I was told the shop was being cleared out and no is there. I don't what happened, but it was sudden. He never mentioned retirement when we saw him a couple weeks ago. read more

He doesn't rip people off, he knows EVERY year, make, and model made by Subaru, where they go wrong, what's worth fixing, what's not, which years are better than others and why, etc... I've been taking my Subarus here for almost ten years and have always had very good experiences. Buddy really knows Subarus. I'll call him and tell him what's going on with my car. He will know exactly what the problem is. Twice I've had problems and been charged less than $100. Once my battery lead cables needed to be changed. The other time a hose for my clutch was leaking and needed replacement. In these situations, a mechanic could have told me you need a new alternator or you need a new clutch and I would have believed them. I don't know much about cars and both repairs would have seemed in line with the problems I was having. Buddy only fixed what needed to be fixed so I will continue going back. Turn around times are reasonable considering how busy they seem to be all the time. These guys are Subaru experts and honest businessmen. read more

I have owned Subaru's for some time and ever since finding Buddy I have only used Mobile Mechanic services. The guys do a great job working on cars and do it at an affordable price. Recently I was in the market to buy a car but I had a smaller budget and still wanted a decent Subaru that was mechanically sound. I brought over three different cars for Buddy and his son to look over in total and they graciously looked them over. Mobile Mechanics does not charge to look over potential purchase subaru vehicles, my guess is with the idea that you will have it serviced with them in the future. They helped me navigate the difficult and sometimes frustrating process of getting a new-to-me subaru and I know I can trust that it will be a good car for the years to come. We've been bringing our Subarus to Buddy for more than 20 years, and my in-laws have been taking theirs to him for even longer, and he has always been fair, honest and reasonably priced. We trust his judgement completely. We tend to keep our cars for 20+ years and use them up, and he's kept them going for as long as possible, while keeping things safe, and isn't afraid to tell you when it's time to 'let them go' and get a newer vehicle rather than sink more money into a losing situation. Having received good service from Buddy previously I took my vehicle in for a timing belt replacement and was given a quote of $650. The final bill was more than $150 higher and was over $800. Needless to say I was not happy with the increase in price and thought maybe he found something else that he repaired when working on my car, however I didn't receive a call about the price increase or to inform me that there was some other problem he found. I picked up my car after hours so didn't get to talk to Buddy about what the increase was due to. When I looked at the bill I was surprised to see the parts for the timing belt replacement cost a whopping $490 and it looked like just the standard parts one would expect for a timing belt replacement job. He charged $150 for the cambelt, $165 for idlers, and $145 for the tensioner. I'm not a mechanic, but this seems really high for those parts. When I called to inquire about the price increase from the original quote I was given he told me the tensioner was not included in the original quote. I was kind of surprised at this response as it seems to me it should be included in a standard timing belt replacement, if you go to the labor expense of replacing the timing belt it would be prudent to replace the tensioner at the same the time. I was disappointed in the increase in price and the overall price for the job in particular the parts seemed to be excessively high. Also I would expect a price increase of over $150 which represents 25% more than the original quote would be discussed with the customer and to have been informed before the repair that the tensioner was not included and would add another $150 to the price. I didn't have the original quote in writing it was just a verbal quote since I trusted him and didn't expect something like this to happen. Overall disappointed by this experience. read more

A friend recommended this place years ago. They only do Subaru's, and they are incredibly honest, thorough, and efficient. B/c they only do Subaru's, they know exactly what things cost when you call about it, and they are half of what the dealer (2 blocks away) costs. I even called Buddy when I was going to buy a used Subaru for my sister, and he told me what models and years to avoid b/c of mechanical problems. Last week, I got an oil change at a local Subaru dealer near my office. They gave me a list of things wrong w the car- totaling $3500 in repairs! I asked Buddy to look at it, and he did- for free- and told me NOTHING the dealer told me was wrong needed to be fixed. NOTHING, vs $3500!! (he told me another lady had something very similar happen to her from the dealer across the street, as well, with nothing wrong). I will always use this company, and send as many friends as I can to him. He does warranty work, as well! read more

Buddy and family are great! I used to take my car to AutoNation for general maintenance until a friend turned me onto Mobile Mechanics. He said they only work on Subarus, and they are honest and do good work. They were right! I have always been so impressed with the way Buddy runs his business. They offer very fair prices, sure to be lower than the dealership prices. They are also fast. If you make an appointment for an oil change, they'll have you back on the road within 30 minutes. I own an older Subaru Outback that i thought was in need of brakes and always smells like fuel. Took it to Mobile Mechanics based on yelpers reviews and had a great experience! Buddy informed me that my brakes were still good and have some life left. He also tightened the fuel lines for me and did an overall visual inspection on the car. Wife and then teenage kiddo has had a 1996 Sub Outback and Buddy has been keeping this thing running for years. We have felt he has never charged us for extra work and worked with us to just keep it running for the kid. He has told us about needing valve/ring job due to burning oil and then finally needing a new clutch. He has worked with us to work either around those issues we don't want to pay for (ring issue) or like the clutch has continued to adjust it until this year when it finally went out. Buddy has been honest at every stage and has worked with us due to limited finances. After clutch went out, we went out and got a Honda Civic for the kid (friends had a cheap car). But we have another newer Outback and when/if it starts having problems, Mobile Mechanics will be our first and only choice for service. read more

I've had 2 experiences here and they were both fantastic. First time I was sent over from an oil change after the mechanic servicing my car said a belt was loose in the engine. Buddy diagnosed and fixed this within minutes and I was on my way. Fit me right in. In my recent experience we were hearing from another shop that something pretty major was wrong in my rear differential. We were nervous it would be pretty pricey. Bring it do Buddy, who seemed pretty darn busy, and he took my car for a spin and diagnosed it immediately. Ridiculous (and embarrassing) enough, it was loose lug nuts and one was even missing. They tightened and replaced them right away and I was on my way. Love this place! read more

I own a newer Subaru Legacy and replacing the low beam headlight on this car couldn't be more difficult. I stopped by mobile mechanics to just ask advise and he said, "pull it around and I'll do it real quick!" What a nice guy! I have been meaning to write this review for quite awhile...and remembered this morning when I realized my suby needs some expert attention. I have been to Buddy twice and I cannot say enough to support his business. His is the kind of place you might not think still exists- honest, upfront- no B.S. He knows his Suburus and isn't in it to take advantage of people- something that happens all too often in this industry. An example: 8 and a half months pregnant and my Outback started making a rattling noise. Unable to get under the car safely let alone do anything about it if I could; I decided to take it to an in and out lube place, as it needed a change and I was hoping if I could look under the car with someone else I might at least find the problem. They did not come get me when the car was up, but one of the guys said he checked it out and offered his services (at his home shop) for $150 to patch some holes in the exhaust . "Not a big deal" he said, "it's just loud, not dangerous, but I can take care of it for you no problem". I let it go for awhile until 3 months or so later the noise suddenly became embarrassingly obnoxious. Finally mobile enough to jack the car up; I found the source of the exhaust leak: loose bolts. 5 minutes later they were tightened and the noise went away. No holes! I went to Mobile Mechanics while I was pregnant too, for a fuel smell, and my experience was quite different. Buddy came out to the car, popped the hood, then went for a socket wrench to tighten the fuel lines. No charge. I felt rather dumb (I blame it on the horomones) but extraordinarily grateful. He could have taken the car in and charged me who knows how much. It is a good feeling to know people like this are still in business. He will continue to get mine. read more

Unfortunately I trusted unreliable Yelp for advice, which was a big mistake. After much research, I have come to realize Yelp is well known as a big scam (see http://theyelpscam.com/, yelplawsuit.com, yelp-sucks.com etc.). At any rate, Buddy told me he doesn't work on engines AFTER he diagnosed our Subaru engine was fine and that the rough idle is normal.... Don't work on engines? Are you kidding me? I honestly don't know of a Subaru "Mechanic" tht doesn't work on engines but whatever. I asked Buddy if the engine was okay since it idled so rough and that I didn't want to have anything else fixed if it was a lost cause... To make a long story short, we put money in getting the axle replaced, then the transmission and the rough idle kept getting worse each day. We took it to a Subaru mechanic in Aurora and found out that the #3 cylinder had no compression. Now after all the other repairs, the engine needs another $1,700 in repairs. Of course the vehicle was not worth all the money spent on repairing it. Such is life but I'm sorry Buddy but you're a nice guy but no longer my mechanic! read more

After getting disgusted with the Subaru dealership up the street from Mobile Mechanics who were always trying to sell me on something I didn't need, I started asking my friends who have Subarus where they take their cars, and everyone recommended Buddy at Mobile Mechanics. In fact, he seems to be a living legend in the west suburbs! My car needed its 30,000 mi. maintenance, and the Subaru dealership wanted over $600. Buddy did it for $324. The waiting room at Mobile Mechanics is bare bones. There is no air conditioning, free coffee and doughnuts, fruit tray, TV, library, huge aquarium, or shuttle service like at the Subaru dealership up the street. Plus, I had to wait two weeks for an appointment! But if you want to save money and not get ripped off, try Buddy, an honest guy with over 30 years experience working on Subarus, I'm sure glad I found him. read more

Buddy is the Subaru whisperer of the Front Range. I'm not kidding. He listens to you, then just takes your car for a drive and comes back with a diagnosis. It's rather movie-esque. The first time I took my Legacy in, he did all of the above, came back into the office and wrote down what was wrong with the car on a piece of paper. Then he told me exactly which part of the warranty covered each of these repairs and that I should take the car across the street and make the dealership fix all of them, which I did. This is the best place to take your Subaru in the whole metro Denver area. Buddy only recommends what is needed and is an expert at diagnosing and fixing problems. He usually diagnoses the exact problem within 10 seconds of describing the symptoms. Yesterday after having him do 120,000 mile service he said a recommendation I got from another shop, to replace all 4 struts and a bushing for $1450 was completely bogus. Struts were all fine and overall suspension for a Subaru with this mileage was well above average. I've have/had three Subaru's I bring here and i could tell 10 stories just like this. My daughter's 2013 Subaru with over 150k miles was driving "funny" and making all sorts of weird noises.
