Refused to give service. I found this shop on yelp and I had read good reviews. When I first brought my car in for a diagnostic (I thought that there was something wrong with my clutch and some other things) and an oil change, Greg was very nice and agreed to help me figure out what was wrong. 20 minutes later he called me back and said that he refused to work on my car saying that it was in 'too bad of shape' however he also told me that it is safe to drive. His final statement was good luck finding a mechanic who is willing to work on that. 2 weeks later my clutch went out and thankfully I took it to the Nissan dealership who was able to help me immediately with all of my problems. 1000% do not recommend this shop to anyone. Overall he did not listen to what I told him was wrong and he tried to make me feel stupid instead of listening, however I knew that something was wrong with my car. read more

Just spoke with Mike over the phone and he was extremely rude and demeaning. All I asked was a rough estimation of what it could cost to replace my rear brakes and he said he needs VIN number, year and model number, and when I said I could provide that he then switched his story saying he needed the vehicle there in person, and that it would cost 89.99 just to look at it. He said he'd only roll the price back into the cost of repair, if I did the work there. When I said I just need to know if the cost would be between $400-500 he said oh okay you're just price shopping I think our conversation is over. I hung up the phone. Not sure what kind of place has customer service like this. A shame cuz I love Greg, he's done amazing work in the past but this was an absolutely ridiculous interaction. read more

My friend and I (two young women) drop my forester off for an oil change and all around vehicle inspection. An hour later I get a run down of the $2,200 list of extensive things wrong with my car. Including timing belt, brake system, spark plugs, and air filters. Going back through my car facts and maintenance performed since I bought the car only 2 years ago, almost all of these services and replacements were done on my car- including the most expensive, the timing belt. I'm shocked to see the "taking advantage" review. I've been a customer of Greg's at Advanced Automotive for more than 10 years. I've always found his ethics and standards to be the highest. He takes the time to really explain what he's "recommending" and why and I never have felt forced to do anything or as if I was getting a line of bull. In fact for the last 4 years, I have had a service contract with Ford on my truck and Lakewood Ford was doing the service every 3k. That contract just expired, so I decided that the dealer had not really given me the exceptional service I was use to with Greg, so back I went. I just took him my truck and had to have my rotors replaced rather than just turned because the dealer hadn't told me they were already worn 3000 miles ago. He found that all the fluids looked great and recently replaced EXCEPT the transfer case - seems Ford never checked or changed that and it was black. My wife's Ford Escape was recently in there too and he found that Ford had removed a filter between the engine bay and passenger compartment, but failed to replace it. He use to be a mechanic on the Honda race team, then was the lead tech for Honda's corporate tech hotline (where they call when they can't figure something out at the shops), and then started his own business. Greg's prices aren't any cheaper than a dealer, but I trust him completely. He keeps his shop immaculately clean, he thoroughly goes over ever car he services, and tells you what he recommends and why in great detail. I was extremely pleased with the pre-purchase inspection that Greg and his team completed on a Toyota Prius I wanted to buy. They were able to get me in the same day I called. The inspection report and the advice Greg gave me helped me get a $375 front brakes repair job included in the purchase price of the car. I took my 2014 Subaru to Advanced to have it looked at before taking a long trip. Greg was very nice initially and he seemed to know what he was talking about. He suggested quite a bit of work, and I had him do it. The morning of the trip I noticed fluid dripping from the engine. I called Greg asking him to take a look at my car that morning. He got upset - kept repeating that everyone makes mistakes - and he wouldn't look at the car!? Weird interaction. I had to take my car to a different mechanic who found the mistake and fixed it easily. Based on the other reviews and my experience, if you're looking for a professional who stands behind their work, Advanced is not a great choice. read more

Honestly if it wasn't for the experience today I would give them 4 stars. Sad to report a pretty terrible experience following up a simple repair on my 4runner - oil change, cabin air filter, and diff fluid. The next day I turn on the car and run the HVAC and a rattle/vibration occurs. I had to fly away on business but the issue persisted when I got back. I let the owner, Greg, know that this problem was happening. He said I could drop by and take a look..... When I got there he informed me that if they take it apart and it wasn't there fault then I would owe them another 50 dollars. He later back pedaled on this statement and said he would inspect the car, but said a lot of unprofessional things first. After they spent 5 minutes removing the cabin air filter he came by and told me "I found some leaves in the air box proving it isn't my fault!" Wow... He found old leaves past the air box? To me this sounds like the leaves were resting on the other side of the old cabin air filter. Bottom line they did a bad job taking it out and cleaning around it. And even though the replaced the filter leaves were already past it in the HVAC system. He then went off to lecture me that I was wasting his time, when in reality I think he did a bad job - I spent 120 dollars to have a cabin air-filter changed that took them 5 minutes and he can't even stand by his work to fix it without being rude and unprofessional. Now I am considering taking the car to the dealership or another mechanic to clean up this mess. Try someone else, this guy is rude and doesn't stand behind his work. read more

Still the best and most fair mechanic around. I bought a new car and the dealer gave me 5 free oil changes. I didn't visit Advanced Automotive for a while. When that year+ was up, I went back. Not only was Greg happy to see me, he told me of some things that the dealer should have done but didn't (such as using the highest grade recommended synthetic oil - 5 months or 5000 miles between changes instead of 3/3000 - and retorquing the 20 or so undercarriage bolts). Greg did all that, and also reset the computer. If I would ever get a new car again, I'd say 'no thanks' to the dealer and go directly to Advanced Automotive. Why go anywhere else? read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! Greg took advantage of me and my situation as my RV started miss firing on my road trip. He knew I had no choice but to get it fixed. Not only did he sell me parts and services I didn't need he over charged me by $300! The nerve of this guy is unbelievable! If you think he's being weirdly and overly nice it's because he is! I had to stop payment and despute the payment through my credit card company. He is not a honest mechanic! He will take advantage of you every chance he gets! Today 8-12-18 I spoke to the Credit Card customer service that's been helping me with my dispute with Greg. I was informed that even though I have proof that Greg over charged me by $318.00 they are unable to do anything about it it's out of their scope of practice. It would be a legal issue. They said they reached out to Greg and confronted him on the over charge and Greg refused to make things right. They suggested I contact the BBB. read more

Let's admit it car repairs hurt and most of what is out there today it's all corporate take you in for the money and send you out. Greg and his team are a group of hard working guys. I was treated with respect which when it comes to mechanical work women usually get the short end of the stick I hate to admit it but it's true. Greg kept me up to date on what was going on with my car and was accurate with his timing for when I could except everything to be done. The waiting area is set up with women and children in mind his magazine selection is actually worth looking through and has books, games, and, toy cars that kids can touch and play with. If you like long waits, poor customer service (from the owner) and being hung up on, then this is the place for you! We had our vehicle serviced here a couple of times for oil changes and had been somewhat happy with the results. During our second visit we were told that we would need breaks the next time we brought the vehicle in for an oil change. I called in for a price quote (after being told that someone would call me with the price at our last visit) about a month before I was due for another service. During that call the owner (Greg) very graciously went over the pricing options depending on what type of break job might be needed. He was not able to give me an actual quote because there were no notes on our file as to what the technician did during our previous visits. The day I actually called to schedule the appointments I spoke, once again, with Greg. Only this time he would not review any of the prices that had been previously discussed but said I would need to bring the car in so they could measure the rotors.?.? I asked why I couldn't just give him the make and model of my car and they could look it up. He curtly responded that they don't do that and that they NEVER quote prices over the phone. When I said that they have in the past and that he had actually given me prices previously he denied that being the case. In response, I said that was fine I would take the vehicle else where to get the breaks done. Greg said "that's fine I actually don't want to work with people like you" and hung up. While I am happy to hear other people have had a great experience and long term relationship with this company that has not been the case for me. They may be fine for oil changes (even that was hit and miss for me) I would never recommend this company. read more

We have used Advanced Automotive for about 3 years now. I am a very happy customer! They are very honest and ethical. What you need to expect and know, is that these guys are very thorough! If something needs to be fixed then they are going to tell you. So if you go to a mechanic that just does the work you tell him and he doesn't keep tabs on your vehicle, then this place will be different for you. They are all about preventive maintenance. They tell you to fix it before it breaks and ruins lots of other parts of the car. Of course, it is still my choice whether to actually do what is recommended. I have never felt pressured. I can't thank Collin enough for his assistance with my flat tire yesterday morning. The tire was rusted on and we couldn't get it to budge. Fortunately I walked into Advanced Automotive for help where Collin immediately came to my rescue. He left the shop to go with me to my vehicle where he removed the tire, took it back to the shop where he repaired it and then left with me a second time to replace it. My car had a check engine light on, and after taking it to a Mazda dealership, they changed the spark plugs. After I drove it home, the check engine light was back on. I took it back to the dealership and they told me I needed a new engine on my 2011 Mazda. I took it to Advanced Automotive and explained my situation and told them what the dealership had told me. They thought that was ridiculous, and immediately knew what the problem most likely was. They fixed the light, gave me an oil change and full inspection, finding multiple things the dealership had missed. The staff is so friendly and helpful and you really feel like you are important to them. I would recommend this shop to anyone. The owner Greg really knows his stuff and holds his staff to the same high standard of service. read more

I recently took my girlfriends Honda to get a brake job and both of our schedules are hectic, so dropping off and picking up within the shops hours of business is a little tricky. Greg was extremely accommodating to our time limitations, probably a little bit more than necessary. I used to take my Acura's to him when I was in high school and he was always extremely honest with me about the fixes that were necessary. Sure his prices are average, or maybe even a little bit above average, but I would pay a little more money for an honest mechanic any day of the year, and you should too!! For those of you who have had a bad experience with him, "you catch more bee's with honey!" Never call a mechanics shop and pretend you know more than the mechanics working on your car, because you don't, that's why you took it there. Listen up, no other mechanic in this universe will embrace your presence in his work shop and let you watch the work that's taking place, teach you things about your car so you can DIY to save money, discuss alternate repair options with you to save you money, or save your old parts to show you that he ACTUALLY did the work he said he was going to do. Greg's shop gets a double thumbs up fist pump from me, and I refer every one of my friends and family members to check him out. Almost forgot, and he is a certified Diesel Technician as well. Under no circumstance should you bring your vehicle to this shop. Last month, after noticing my car was not running well, I brought my car to this "mechanic." After a complete vehicle inspection that I paid for, I was told that the oil filter was damaged and that the car was low on oil. On the phone, the "mechanic" told me there was no damage to the engine and that I would need a new oil pump and that since the car had close to 80,000 miles on it, I also inquired about changing the spark plugs. The car also needed a new oxygen sensor. $820 later I picked up my car. I noticed at that time it did not sound right and asked the technician about it. I was told it was no concern, that oil needed to circulate and that a bottle of Slick 50 or other lubricant would eliminate the noise. About 15 minutes after that, while driving home, I hear a loud bang, followed by loss of power. By the time I pulled over, the entire engine block was on fire resulting in a complete loss of my vehicle. I registered a complaint with the BBB and asked the mechanic to refund my $820 as a sign of good will. He refused and proceeded to question my character and integrity and said the engine was already damaged when I brought it in. Even if that was the case, how would a mechanic allow me to leave his shop with a damaged engine AFTER a complete vehicle inspection that I paid for was completed. Nowhere was I informed of this and nowhere was it noted! What kind of mechanic would do $820 of cosmetic work and let me leave with an engine that was destined to fail. As well, I could have been seriously injured in the fire. Needless to say, legal counsel has been retained. Use this "mechanic" at your own risk. read more

0 stars. Very bad service. Either lied to me or didn't know their stuff, unnecessary recommendations, pressured into making big purchases right away and seem danger was imminent. Either they don't know what they're are talking about or lied to me and tried to pressure/scare me into making business with them. They told me I needed to replace (back and front ) brakes pads/rotors ASAP and lied to me about brake pad thickness (saying it was 2mm) They didn't show me anything on the car physically when they checked it/when they gave me an overview, and they gave me a big price for all the things they said needed to be fixed ASAP or else it was a big safety concern (over $320 more than compared to the other place I went to) Went over to Euro-Tech auto and they showed me my brake thickness (which was 5mm) and showed me everything taken apart and what the current condition of the brakes/rotors was and when they should be changed (not imminent danger), front rotors were going to have to be changed soon, but back rotors and pads weren't as bad and they could wait another few months bc paying $1320 is a lot of money at one time. Being a young female doesn't help when dealing with car issues, and I feel like I was taken advantage of that here, all along being assured that the car mechanic (Greg) does seminars on auto issues all the time and giving an impression that he knew everything and seeming to be very polite and nice. Wouldn't even say which parts needed to be fixed first or things that could wait a bit when I told him that was a lot more than I expected and I'd have to come back later. I had my Duramax towed in to Advanced Auto based off a recommendation of another diesel shop in the area. My truck had been having numerous problems with a motor swap that didn't go as well as planned. Over the previous two months I had reoccurring electrical issues that no other shop could figure out and this situation left me stranded in the middle of the road. Greg and Sheena did a great job of troubleshooting, communicating, diagnosing, calling the GM tech line directly, and repairing my truck with great integrity. Extremely disappointed. No wait, completely aghast at their methods. I'm from Golden and wanted to support this local small business. I'm extremely capable with cars. I own 7 and have my own lift in my garage. I support no less than five businesses within a block of this shop. I wanted to give them a try with a minor item as a test. I give them a G because an F is too generous. I used yelp reviews to pick them, so take all reviews with a grain of salt (yes, including this one). Here's what happened. I asked them to adjust my parking brake. It wasn't holding anymore when I put the car in park. Nothing fancy. They came back and said the cable had no more adjustment and the parking brake shoes were below the minimum. The quote for work was $760. I paid their service fee and said no thank you. My spidey sense said that paying over $500 for a parking brake fix didn't feel right. So I went to a nearby auto parts store and bought the shoes for $28.71. I then researched the issue, pulled off the wheel, and found both the adjuster and shoes both with plenty of life. I was speechless. A few twists and we were good as new. *And* I returned the shoes because I didn't need them. Overall cost - $0. Total time - 15 minutes. I took pictures of both to show the shoe depth old/new and the adjuster to show the room it had before/after. The worst part is there is no way they could have even looked at it. No way. I'm a very laid back and mellow person. It takes a lot to get me riled and to speak up. I've very fair and patient. Lazy, unprofessional, and dishonest. That's this shop to a tee. It makes me very sad to post this review because I love my hometown, but the truth must be told. Could there have been some sort of misunderstanding or confusion? Nope. It scares me to think if this was a truly major issue how I would have been treated. Buyer beware. read more

A few weeks ago I had some trouble with my fuel pump, leaving my car unable to be started. Advanced Automotive was the closest mechanic around, which is why I chose to go there. I was quoted over $1,000 for the fuel pump, fuel pump filter and fuel pump relay (this includes $120 for a diagnostic, which is not subtracted from the cost of a repair). Greg told me to be sure I got quotes for factory parts as it's important in this region and fuel pumps. I got two other quotes, both included a diagnostic (which WAS subtracted from the cost of the repair, should I choose to have it done). I opted to pay the $120 for just the diagnostic and towed it to another shop for repair. I ended up paying $695 for all 3 parts with labor for the repair (still saving money, even with a tow to Aurora). When I explained to Greg that my quotes were significantly less expensive, he cut me off multiple times. He said there is no way I could have gotten quotes for factory parts for less (all three of the quotes I got were for factory parts, and all three mechanics did explain the importance of a factory part with this sepcific repair). I eventually just realized his communication skills are poor and pushy, and that it's better to just let it go. My father, being a business man himself, called Greg to ask if he wanted to make this right with me before I posted negative reviews. Greg was pushy and interrupted my father also, telling him that I had lied. Overall, the experience was poor and I would not recommend going through this company, especially if you're a woman! read more
