Visited Corner in Austin for dinner with a group of six coworkers. We were seated inside -- not quite the same lively, hip vibe as the outdoor area, but the space was still modern, comfortable, and nicely designed. The food itself was solid. Since I was with colleagues, I didn't take photos, but we shared several appetizers and the ahi and cornbread were definite standouts. The burnt ends were also incredibly tender and flavorful. Unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. We had reservations, but it took a long time before our table was even acknowledged. When our server finally came over, he seemed rushed, quickly taking orders and even forgetting to ask one person in our group what she wanted -- we had to flag him down to come back. The timing issues continued throughout the meal. One dish was forgotten entirely and didn't arrive until we were ready to order dessert. Then, after ordering desserts, one was missed again. We had to flag down multiple staff members and eventually a manager before it arrived -- after everyone else had already finished theirs. To make matters worse, the late entrée was initially included on the bill, and it took additional time to get that corrected. Overall, the food was good, but the inconsistent and slow service made it hard to enjoy the experience. Late night food and drinks are a must here! Since we were tourists in Austin during the week, Wednesday to be precise, things closed relatively early but since we were on vacation, we wanted to continue the night! As we were walking around the city, we stumbled across this placed located on....you guest it, the corner across from the food hall and Elli's. They had tons of seating and it was nice enough to sit outside too. The kitchen was still open for a little while longer so we sat down and quickly ordered some chips and queso for us and our new friends, and burgers. They definitely hit the spot to soak up some of the beverages from other bars we were at throughout the night. We were able to sit here and just hangout for a while until they had to close up for the night. It was nice for us to just chill here and plan our next day! Had some friends in town who reserved us a reservation at the Corner. We arrived and the space is in the heart of downtown so be sure to come ready to valet or park and walk from elsewhere because there is not a lot of readily available parking around. There is a large outdoor bar space and a beautiful indoor bar space as well. The place itself is massive, lots of seating and really pretty interior. We checked in 10 minutes before our reservation and ended up waiting about 25 min past the time of our reservation to be seating when it looked like there were plenty of open tables. The hostess was not even apologetic but rather annoyed that we were getting antsy - not to mention we were on a tight timeline to attend a show later that evening. When we were finally sat the waiting staff was nice, but food service was not super efficient. All that to say the food itself was delicious. The spicy guac is super spicy but delicious so if you like a kick this is for you! And I had the chicken and brisket tacos which were great in flavor as well, though the brisket taco was cold. Prices are just a little high since it's in a hotel so of course you will be charged about three times the price for alcohol. Nighttime ambience is my favorite. The hotel connected to this restaurant (Marriott) was nice enough to watch our bags for free while we ate and then walked around the city, which was greatly appreciated. Service was extremely friendly and super quick despite it being busy. I got the crispy chicken sandwich and my friend got a salad. She loved the presentation of her salad (it came stacked in a container that was overturned and then lifted when it got to the table so all of the ingredients were layered in the bowl). She also said it was one of the better salads she's ever had. My crispy chicken sandwich was really good. It came with avocado, a spicy aioli, and a jalapeño cheddar bun. It was perfectly cooked and juicy on the inside. The fries it came with were also good. I highly recommend getting this. The establishment was incredibly vibrant and busy but that didn't stop our table from being greeted almost immediately. Corner food and service especially from our waiter, Matt, was five star--all day, any day. He's legit as is the queso, salad, and short rib taquitos. The price point was no problem and we left feeling full but not miserable and in a great head space to finish our day. The only reason for knocking a star off was the hostess (and literally Matt and the food offset her awfullness). We walked in prior to the lunch crowd and I said "please do not seat us next to kitchen." She guided us next to thee closest booth to the kitchen. We declined. My hubby then asked for a certain booth and she ignored him and tried to put us in the windy doorway. By now, I was annoyed and ended up picking our own table which was NOT the one next to the waiter station like where she wanted us to be. Btw, I saw and noted other customers experiencing her same controlling table sitting. I saw them throw down and her rolling her eyes. The last thing I wanted on my first trip to Austin was the hostess police. Corner, your other employees and well-being depend on your hostess being respectful and making your guests feel welcome. I liked it! The restaurant is located inside the JW Marriott, but it has a nice ambiance to it. The lights are dimmed inside, and the space has an open layout to it. There is both outdoor and indoor seating, but I did indoors because of the weather. I was able to get a table right by the window, so I had a great view of the downtown scene. The service was great. Our server was very attentive and made great recommendations. He recommended the skillet cornbread as their most popular appetizer, and it did not disappoint. I'm not a huge fan of cornbread, but I made the exception for this one, and I'm glad I did! It was very fluffy, had bits of zucchini, and was very moist. It was not heavy or dry at all, and it had a bit of sweetness to it. I would give it an 8/10. Next, I had the chipotle honey salmon. The salmon was cooked to perfection, and the mixture of sweet potato, snap peas, and the lime crema was so refreshing. It was also a large portion. My partner had the wagyu burger, which was also cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The fries were shoestring style, and they were a tad crispy, which I liked. Pricing is average for a downtown upscale restaurant. As for parking, there is only garage parking, but it is pricey and not validated by the restaurant. I came here because of their 4.9/5 star rating on Google Reviews, but while I liked the restaurant and food, I would not give it that rating. Swanky place in downtown serving American. Loved the clean vibes, there's also couches outside whenever the weather is good. Outside doesn't really have seating for big groups but can handle the more intimate 2-4 Cornbread was pretty standard. Austin Tea Party was great! My favorite thing. I must say there isn't a bad meal on their menu. The one big shoutout is the Wagyu Burger. Heads up it's 2 patties that melt in your mouth. For a Sunday morning brunch, it was easy to get a table and wasn't too crowded - the bar outside was the most busy. I started by ordering their Espresso Martini - it's delicious and definitely on the strong side! Was a great way to start my Sunday, but I probably wouldn't drive after trying it. For food I ordered the Avocado Toast with smoked salmon. When I received it, they forgot the avocado which was pretty silly. Luckily our server was extremely sweet and brought it back for a quick swap. I was confused because when it came out with the avocado, it looked like a completely different dish - but it was so delicious I didn't care! We shared some of their biscuits and those are a MUST. Best ones I've had and they were a fun brunch appetizer/side. Everything here with service was great and fast, only downside is that I feel this place is very overpriced for the simplicity of the food. Corner was a miss for us. The service was lackadaisical and poorly trained. They don't have frozen margaritas. I asked our waiter if they could make me a margarita straight up. He pointed to two margaritas on the menu. I reiterated that I wanted it straight up and shaken like a martini with regular salt on the rim; not the spicy salt. He served the Corner Marg in an ice filled tumbler with spicy salt. He quickly turned to serve drinks to another table. After a couple of minutes I was able to waved him back. I explained in detail that straight up meant served in a martini glass; shaken not stirred. No ice! He returned moments later. He or the bartender simply poured the drink brought earlier (including the spicy salt that I twice told him that i did not want) into an unremarkable cheap champagne glass. Again, he turned without even asking if he had gotten it right. I looked at it in disbelief. No plain margarita salt on the rim. The red spicy salt was dissolving into the drink before my eyes. Of course this played out in front of the rolling eyes of my guest - Mexico's Ambassador. I took a few deep breaths. I then took a sip. It tasted horrible; not even close to a margarita. That was it. I paid $16 for that embarrassing moment and yes we immediately left. I wish I had the presence of mind to take pictures, but I was diplomatically discrete. BTW - We also had a 6:30 reservation. I arrived at 6:15; my guest at 6:20. We had to wait until 6:40. Of course this a Marriott property and toddlers taken to bars have priority over adults with a reservation. It was an embarrassment all around. The poorly trained staff included the waiter, hostesses, and bar keepers. The guacamole and chips were okay, but the Redfish Ceviche's was a non-starter. read more

Very standard beer selection with craft beer options. The food is good but again standard. But, that is ok. When you are hungry an overcooked burger is good. lol. The Corner Restaurant bar is a 500-square-foot bar space. Seating on all four sides. But if you are not in a certain seating area; bartender(s) miss you for service. You have to walk your space if you are bartending. Constant motion around the bar and looking out is essential. You can't see your guests if you have your back to customers. It annoys the bleep out of me. Once you see this, you will know what I mean. Overall, great location for meeting friends or socializing with co-workers. Outdoor table service. Couches for that lay-back vibe. Well-designed restaurant and bar. You just have to watch out for service (can be slow or ?), and the birds flying through the space. Did someone say, Hitchcock?
