I was there on July 18, a Tuesday evening at about 5:30 (ish). First, the food. It was very, very good. I ordered the Adobo Chicken. Yum. I got the brussells sprouts with it. Also, yum. Unfortunately, the service was a problem. Very few people were there so this is not an excuse. There were menus out front on a menu board. (This is important - I'll come back to it.). I peeked at the menus quickly and saw the chicken. It said the chicken came with polenta, which I don't really like. But I saw that you could get extra sides for either $6 or $7 each, including the sprouts ($7). Also, it said the chicken dish was $17. When I was seated, I was considering the chicken but also the shrimp. I asked my waiter how the shrimp was prepared because it wasn't clear from the menu. His answer? "I don't know. I mean, it's cooked, I guess. Yeah." Seriously? This is your answer? It's cooked? So, I ordered the chicken and said I'd also like a side of the sprouts. He said okay. He came back a few minutes later and said "ma'am, your dish actually comes with the sprouts" as if I had made a mistake. I said "well, that's not what your menu says, but okay, fine." (Since that's what I preferred anyway and I didn't want the polenta.) So, the food came out and it was good. The waiter then began to hover. A lot. Really annoying. Eventually, I finished my food and asked for the check. He brought the check with the following charges: Chicken Abodo: $19.00 Substitution: Sprouts $2.00 Um, what? First, why is the chicken $19 instead of $17 when the menu outside said $17? (I didn't really pay attention to the price on the menu when I sat down because I'd already seen it outside.) Also, why am I being charged for a substitution when he said it actually CAME with the sprouts? So, of course, I called the waiter back over and pointed out these problems. He corrected the substitution thing right away and said he entered that initially before he was told by the kitchen that it was NOT in fact a substitution. But the price thing - 17/19? He was clueless. Turns out - and I figured this out when I left the restaurant and looked again at the menu boards outside - they actually had TWO versions of the menu, both posted outside at the SAME TIME with different versions of the same dish and different prices. One showing the chicken with polenta and one with sprouts. And two different prices. And when I sat down, they gave me the one with the lower price but then charged me the higher price. I have had Braised Short Rib Nachos- incredible and a huge portion, the Roasted Squash & Farro salad (amazing!), and the Jalapeño Honey Mustard Grouper, which is quite possibly one of my favorite dishes in Austin. What a pleasant surprise this was! My family and I were looking for parking while out looking for a new restaurant to try and decided to park in the nearby parking lot ... which we soon discovered belonged to the Marriott hotel. We hopped in the elevator, assuming it would take us to the street, only to find ourselves in the Marriott's lobby. We saw Corner on the other end of the lobby and decided to give it a shot. The atmosphere was really nice and surprisingly quiet considering it was Halloween and the World Series was playing all around us. We were seated immediately and the waitress was professional and friendly. The food -- at least MY food -- was pretty incredible. We had two kids in tow, so they had hamburgers and seemed to be pleased with them. My wife had the French dip sandwich and was happy with it. I had the beef barbacoa tacos and was beyond thrilled with the flavor. Would highly recommend. P.S. If you do park in the Marriott's lot, you're getting charged $23 regardless of time spent. read more

I'm staying at the JW and the first time I dined here was convenience, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th were because it's great. The waitstaff is very attentive and knowledgeable. I'm a vodka drinker and Matt asked if he could make me something he thought I would like. It was delightful made with ruby red vodka and prosecco. The food is dandy too. Their appetizer shishitos are flash fried and battered and are crave worthy. I loved the blackened fish sandwich. Chicken chili is hearty and good. Our group shard desserts. The first time I visited Corner I had a terrible experience. First after being seated, we waited quite a while before seeing a server. The table next to us in the meantime was seated and had drinks before we were even greeted by our server. After our server finally arrived, we ordered drinks and an appetizer. The appetizer arrived and we still didn't have drinks. How could two iced teas be so hard to locate? To top it off, the chips we ordered in our dip trio were horribly stale and we sent them back. It the replacements weren't much better. Since we were starving by then, we ate them anyway. The rest of the meal was fine, although the service never got any faster. To round out the experience, our check was wrong and we had to wait for that to be taken care of. Sigh. After that visit I would have probably given the restaurant a one or two, but I always try to go to someplace twice before reviewing it. The second trip was much better. Smooth service and the quality of the food was good. Prices were in line with most of Austin. It wasn't memorable but I felt like I would at least return. Unfortunately, my third trip was just like the first. We made a reservation even though the place was dead for a Friday night and we're sat right away. Our server was prompt with getting drinks and our order but that's where it stopped. Someone else brought our food, but forgot the salad for my dressing. I waited a while but finally my husband had to flag our server down to bring the dressing. He got the dressing but walked away before I could confirm it was the dressing I had asked for. Needless to say, I ate my salad without my dressing since we never saw him again. He brought our check and that was the end. It is disappointing because I pass this place and think how cool the outdoor bar areas is, but I'm really hesitant to go here. read more

For the second year in a row we had come to stay at the JW for the Easter weekend, the location is great, the hotel is new and modern and the amenities, including the Executive Lounge are outstanding. On our last day we decided to try the hotel restaurant being that it had great reviews on Yelp and the food looked great. We were greeted and seated immediately outside. Our server showed up a few minutes after and we ordered chips with queso, salsa and guacamole, it came fairly fast and we placed our order. I asked the server if the could substitute the chicken on their salad with the SEARED salmon that was in the kids menu, I pointed out to my son's menu so that he could understand what was my request, he said they could do it and that it would be an up charge ($4) I said, great. Salad came and first thing I noticed is that the salmon is in between the salad layers and its cold. So, I tell him that that was not the type of salmon I had requested, he then tells me it was. I said no I pointed out to the kids menu, he says: no you didn't... Now misunderstandings happen, but he kind of implied I was making this up and that I was flat out lying. I did not like that, but for the sake of having a good time I said it's fine. He said "but I want you to be happy", which was great but he didn't offer a solution, like:"let me correct this by making the salmon you requested, or do you want to order something else. Nothing. So I ate everything except the cold salmon. When he finally came to check on us at the end of the meal, he noticed I didn't touched to cold salmon and he said that he was sorry, things had not worked out like I wanted. Then he leaves the check and the salmon upcharge is still there!!! My husband ordered the fish tacos that were OK and a side of grits, which never came, in spite of flagging another waiter when ours went missing for the entire duration of our meal. Our kids were also never offered the dessert that came with their meal either. We remembered that when we paid the bill. We should have skipped this altogether, the restaurant is beautiful and they have a great outdoor bar, that I would maybe come back to, but the food and the service was not up to the standards of a JW Marriot. Not worth the price point or the service. It was a total waste of time and money given the wide variety of more interesting food and scenes in Austin. read more

Oh my! It was a mix of sweet and savory and spicy. The seven layer salad is also delicious. I ate that whole massive thing! The service was also excellent. Well let's start off with the atmosphere .Nice outside seating great seats for relaxing . Service was ok although the waitress did come back to the table 3 times to ask is what we ordered . Beer was ok decent selection . Food was on the average . Small portion for the price . Top it all off asked for steak to be medium and it came out well done like beef jerky .. guys in the back cooking should put a thermometer in the meat of there not sure what medium looks like . In town for business and checked out Corner. First off the service was outstanding. Our waitress Kayla took great care of us. She made lots of great recommendations (even other places we should try while in town). The cornbread is good. The trio dips were great. I had the grouper and thought it was great. I didn't have desserts but they looked really good. I had a jalapeño margaritas and regular margarita and they were both great. Great spot downtown with nice outside seating.
