Came here for dinner on a week night. Service was quick and friendly. We ordered regular and garlic naan for appetizers, with Lamb Korma and Chicken Tikka Masala for the main course. Everything was excellent, and I had no points of improvement for the food. Portions and quality we perfect and reasonably priced. If you want a desert the Gulab Jamun is very tasty. I ordered this per our server's recommendation and did not regret it. This is a reliable, reasonably priced option for authentic Indian cuisine. I will definitely be back. read more

Ordered the Royal Feast. The samosas had a much more flavorful potato filling than the norm, and I quite enjoyed the crisp exterior and spiced moist interior. The tandoori was less successful, with dry chicken. I had to add some of the tart, elegant raita for moisture. Overcooked chicken appeared again in a korma dish, but even the korma sauce couldn't save it. The other dishes were OK and enjoyable, but not great, and the bread was pretty flavorless. Overall, it was OK and nothing was bad, with a number of things that were just lovely. I think if they used dark meat chicken and really paid attention to overcooking, it would bring it up a star. Add more flavor to some of the duller plates, and you'd be close to 5 stars. read more

The lunch buffet is excellent. Lots of variety - nice salad bar with pickles and chutneys, excellent appetizers with samosas and doklas and lots of main dishes - egg biryani, Tandoori chicken, butter chicken, potatoes and broccoli, Dal, sambhar, etc. All the food we tried was good. The only thing preventing a 4 star rating was the service which was poor and slow. No one to greet you or seat you. We waited at the front when we came in. Some guy sitting at a table in the front finally looked up and said "Sit anywhere". That's when we realized he was the owner or manager. He was busy writing something. Perhaps the next neo-existentialist Indian novel. There were 2 waiters who showed up after a while to get us water. Never tried up selling us drinks. Ah well, they must be able to live without tips. read more

I had my first sit-in dinner at Royal India last week to celebrate my friends promotion. Before I comment on the food I just want to compliment the owners on keeping a visually appealing restaurant, the decor is very nice. I would easily recommend Royal India for a nice date. My order Samosas: 5/5 love these! I had to resist ordering some to-go as well. Royal Feast for Two: 3/5 The waiter recommended I give this a try because it had a little bit of everything-- Tandoori Chicken, Salmon Tikka, Ajwahni Jhinga, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Bhuna, Saag Paneer, Pilaf Rice, and onion Kulcha. I really like the idea of the royal feast but it just was not for my palette. The Lamb Bhuna and Onion Kulcha were not my favorites. and the Tosi-tosa salad was just okay. Next time I will just order direct from the main menu, or even give their Lunch buffet a try one weekend. read more

Food was delicious. I came here for my birthday dinner on a Groupon and ordered the Veggie Sampler Dinner. It was DELICIOUS! The fried portion of the meal came out first then the rest shortly after. I was pleased that after realizing I forgot to choose which dessert (they had already picked the rice pudding for me) I had really wanted the gulab jaman. The server was nice enough to give me both at no extra charge. I didn't give these guys 5 stars because, well, let me tell you. I asked for a box to-go because there was no way I was finishing all this food myself in one sitting... The man walks and helps another table... goes to the front counter to do something else... the entire time I'm staring at the to-go boxes right through the doorway of the kitchen wondering when the hell he's bringing me my boxes. I sat... waited... saw the man go behind the bar (I thought he was getting the new table their drinks first...wtf?)... oh no, even worse... I see the server in the mirror of the bar DRINKING BEER... I'm sure it wasn't APPLE JUICE and he wouldn't be trying to hide it, facing the wall in the corner thinking no one can see him. Hello... there are mirrors behind the bars and I'm sitting right there staring you down waiting for my boxes.... I didn't say anything because I wanted to get my food, check and go home to have the rest of my birthday evening in peace. Honestly, I would still go back and eat here ONLY FOR TAKE-OUT... and the only reason I sat down to eat was because of the Groupon. BTW, I was here only 15 minutes after they opened for dinner on a Tuesday - so it's not like they were super busy. I heard another table with a single man sitting behind me ask for his check several times... then what appeared to be the owner came and took his credit card before even bringing the check (I heard the server go back to the table and patron tell him "oh he took my credit card")... so something isn't right about the service there at the tables... read more

Best bang for the buck Indian buffet on the city. Good simple Indian food. Love the channa saag that they serve over here. Also the dosa here is a good addition to the lunch buffet. read more

The WORST EVER.. The food wasn't the best even tho it was a buffet.. They leave food empty till you ask them to bring some more..Second, the staff specifically the manager was rude to us "my wife and I" we were inside then my child started crying we decided to go outside so we don't bother.. We went out side then we had to wait for awhile for the water and the high chair.. I walked in and asked the manager to bring them ... He told me " TAKE IT " he meant the high chair !!!!!!! Should I get it myself or should they bring it?? no sympathy for the little boy crying so he help us at least?? Or the way of respect I had to deal with him by taking my babe out of his restaurant?? I took the high chair myself... Don't even think of going there are a lot out there better taste and staff... read more

Variety of buffet options. We always go during lunch buffet to get optimal choices of vegetables and meats at a very reasonable price. Fresh Naan and items. Excellent Tandoori chicken, chicken Tikki Masala and chicken Vindaloo. read more

Just another Indian restaurant to add to the list. As an Indian born living in Austin, I still haven't found a decent Indian restaurant in Austin. If Dallas & Houston can have them, why not Austin? Anyhow, I wanted to try this place out since few of my friends said when they went there it was packed. I assumed it was probably because food was either really good or people waiting in line to just try it. I went there with two Americans and they liked it. I however thought it was somewhat bland. Not authentic at all. It is okay. Would I go there again? Most probably not! Food was just average. read more

Chicken vindaloo, lamb saag, garlic naan was delicious! Will come back again! Portions are big, enough to take home for another lunch treat the following day! read more

The food was amazing and the staff was very friendly. I love Indian food and it was nice to find a place that tasted like the homemade food I ate at my friend's house all the time! I would recommend everyone try this place at least once and if you are not sure if you will like Indian food go by during lunch hours and try the buffet!!! PS if you like really hot food be sure to tell your waiter because they will turn the heat up for you but by request only!!! read more

The ambience is good but the food was okok. We reached there by 12:30 and the chicken kebabs were over and nobody refilled it for a long time. Paneer was missing in paneer tikka masala. I felt the $14.00 was too pricey for the food, as there were very less items on the buffet. There was only one dessert - kesari. read more

We get takeout from Coriander at least once a week and it's consistently great food. Everything we've tried is at least on par with other indian restaurants (and certainly better than other South Austin options), but a few items standout: the vindaloo and marsala dishes, as well as the garlic naan. read more

As a vegetarian I can't speak to the meat dishes, but the meals I've had here have always been quite tasty, and at reasonable prices. I often choose Royal India South when entertaining friends who are visiting Austin. . (The one little suggestion I'd offer management is to consider a different style of serving bowl for the rice -- the ones used at this restaurant, while "cute," invariably entail some rice spilling onto the table.) read more

This restaurant is AMAZING! Hands down, the best food. A great friendly and fast service, a very relaxed environment, food is authentic and delicious. Been here twice in a row. No wonder! read more

This used to be one of our favorite Indian restaurants and have been going there for years. It's under new ownership now apparently because everything changed and it's not good anymore. So sad! read more

The samosas are some of the best I've had! Chicken tikka masala, however, was okay. A little too thin of a sauce for my taste (I prefer creamier/thicker Tikka Masala). But overall, good meal! read more

Great menu with a really diverse Indian flavor. This is the highest of quality - (every grain of rice is separated and not stuck together!) Most Americans have never heard of a dish called ''Chicken 65.'' I didn't know about it either, until my friend from India told me about it. IN fact, it was his opinion that this was authentic. The service is great and the you are never left waiting for the check. It's hard to find on 290. There's a local hotel on your right and Coriander is directly alongside it. Don't miss it! read more

Me and my boyfriend thought it was the best Indian food we have tried in Austin so far. We ordered the biryani and the chicken chettinad. We thought both were extremely flavorful and unique and complex in their flavor. We also had a Somosa that was standardily delicious. Can not wait to try a lot more things! read more

How completely horrible, two dead bugs in our food. Yes, TWO !! The restaurant owner could care less. Kitchen was an absolute disaster raw meat sitting out, flys and more cockroaches than I would ever care to see in an eating establishment ! Please avoid this sickening place at all cost. Food was absolutely terrible ! read more

I actually ordered via UberEats. The chicken tikka masala was really great! The spice level was perfect and it was still piping hot when it arrived. read more

In the words of the urban poet known as Flo Rida: Oh hot damn, this is my jam! (Please don't judge my taste in music.) I had the lunch buffet with my family and I just have to say it's one of the top Indian buffets in Austin. Maybe even in Texas. It's just that good. All of the dishes looked like they had been made minutes ago in the kitchen and all tasted fabulous. The tandoori chicken wasn't dry at all, and the naan was butter soft. There was even a guy manning a dosa station. Other dishes I enjoyed were the saag paneer, chicken tikka masala, and fish curry. The mango pudding was something else. I think they might even have made it from scratch! Funny how that is a foreign concept in a lot of restaurants these days. Did I mention it's $10.99/person on weekends, and $8.99/person on weekdays? Make me throw my hands in the ayer! (Ok, I deserve to get punched for that last one.) read more

the boyfriend and I really liked this place. The chicken tikka masla (masala) was awesome, the chicken - perfect and tender. The cholley punjabi (like chana masala) and the garlic naan were also very tasty. Great portions, we plan to go back for the lunch buffet. read more

We came here on a whim when we drove by it and I am beyond impressed! We had the Lal Maas and Goan fish curry with dal makhani as the side. All were amazing! The lamb was tender and flavourful, the fish was light and flaky and the sauce was really tasty! The lentils had a lot of flavour and the garlic naan was...well, it's garlic naan...it's delicious! I want to come back and try everything on the menu! Lunch buffet here I come! read more

Great food, generous portions and very attentive service. At most Indian restaurants, I order samosas and theirs were fabulous. My only small complaint is our server asked what level of spice and I said medium but the food was not very spicy, so if you like it spicy you'll need to make sure they know you mean it. read more

I typically order Vindaloo whenever I try out a new place, and that's how I tend to gauge how good the restaurant is and whether I want to go bad. The vindaloo at Coriander was really top notch, and you can tell whoever makes it has pride in their receptor. You could easily cut the tender lamb with your fork, and the sauce was the perfect mix of spicy heat and flavor. Unfortunately I was only visiting Austin for my anniversary, but if I lived here I'd be back several times to work through all their curry dishes. Great experience overall. read more

We ordered takeout from here two days ago. What a disappointment. Ordered chicken tikka, cheesy naan jalapeño bread and a goat curry. The total was close to 35 dollars for barely any food. The portion size compared to the price was a complete rip off. The chicken was dry and I found a hair in my dish! Yum! The naan tasted of old garlic bread with barely any cheese and the goat was tough. Not sure where the good reviews are coming from. I'll stick to my favorite Indian that comes out of a food truck. read more

Has the potential to become my new favorite Indian restaurant. I had fallen into a rut rotating between Bombay Bistro and Taj Palace so this was a good opportunity to branch out. Service like most Indian restaurants was erratic. Great at times - ignored at others. But the food was excellent. Had the chicken biryani which was outstanding. The chicken chettinad transported me back to South India. If you want a different flavor profile than most North Indian dishes try this one. There was another eggplant dish which isn't on the online menu which was outstanding as well. Only dish that was a disappointment was the chicken vindaloo. I know it is supposed to be hot, but the chili completely overpowered the dish. I was the only one able to eat it. Prices were reasonable and large portions as well. Will definitely go back to try some of the other dishes. read more

The food at this place is amazing....true, until you find 2 metal wires in your Pakodas. It looked like twist ties or something. The management tried to make it right, but we were so spooked we left. Now my fiancé is having stomach pains and we hope he didn't eat one of the wires. Sad, I really loved this restaurant but we won't be going back. read more

Royal Ick is what this place should be called. Beware the ambiance will fool you when you walk in, but you'll soon see all the flaws this new Indian restaurant has. One of my best friends chose this place for her birthday celebration. After she told me where we were going, I looked at the Yelp reviews and tried to talk her into going to one of the otehr great Inian restaurants in Austin, but she'd already told a bunch of people to meet here. I prayed the other reviewers had been wrong or had just had a one-time bad experience. No such luck. My half-sister had also just come in town that day for the Labor Day weekend to visit. She has been a student in culinary school the last year, and has already won a lot of awards for contests her chef instructors encouraged her to enter...so, this gal knows food (you'll understand the reference in a bit). Here is what happened to us and what we observed happen to another couple of tables. We had 13 people at our table for this party; clearly an overload for Royal India waitstaff and kitchen staff. Our water was served right away, but that was the single quickest thing that came out. It took them about 10 minutes to bring out the couple of sodas that we ordered. We waited another 20 minutes before they came and took our appetizer order, which only my sister and I had ordered Naan bread and nobody else ordered an appetizer. The bread was decent. Over the course of the next hour and a half, our table was randomly served the entrees we ordered. Nothing came out together, and my sister was the last to get her plate...two hours into dinner service! My friend and her boyfriend didn't even get everything that their sampler was supposed to come with. My sisters sampler came with an extra mystery meat that turned out to be way undercooked Mutton...which is a one year old goat. My sister said that it was very dangerous to serve someone undercooked mutton. It stank horribly. I couldn't even get a waiter to come over to take it away. This restaurant is in desperate need of a new chef or they need to just shut-down before they make someone seriously ill. Since I'd read the reviews, I stuck with fried vegetarian appetizers, which I figured couldn't be messed up to bad. They weren't great, but they were better than everyone else's dishes. If you must go, I'd suggest getting the vegetarian sampler appetizer. It's safe enough. Then you can grab a good cheeseburger or veggie burger somewhere else when you leave. The only good thing that happened is that my sisters dish was removed from my ticket and my boyfriend and I received half off our orders. The remaining people in the party also received at least half-off, but were trying to get some things comped that were just utterly awful. As promised, I said I'd tell you what happened to the two tables next to us. Well, one of the tables was served all their plates, and after the kid at the table had already stuck his fingers in the food, the waiter realized the food was served to the wrong table. The food was picked-up, and placed back on the serving tray that was on the stand next to the table. The waiter then walked away for about 3 or 4 minutes. When the waiter returned, he picked-up the tray of food, and stand, then walked the 5 steps to the table right next to the one he had just mistakenly served. The waiter re-served the same food to that new table! I was in utter disbelief. These Royal India staff obviously have had no proper training in food handling or good customer service. I'd highly suggest you run in the opposite direction if anyone EVER suggests this restaurant to you...there is much better Indian fare in Austin than this! read more

We absolutely love Royal India! We are always so happy to see more Indian restaurants south of the river. We recognized some of the staff from another restaurant working here and they are always so friendly when we come in. We usually come here for a "calorie splurge" meal and stuff ourselves with the jalapeno and cheese naan, the chicken tikka masala, and the saag paneer. We've been here 3 times for dinner and have not been disappointed! read more

This place has some really mixed reviews, but we took a chance and were quite pleasantly surprised. The food was fantastic and fairly priced. We went on a Saturday night at 7:30 and it wasn't very busy (a rarity in Austin) which meant we got served quickly and bringing our toddler was fine. Their kids menu isn't all that diverse and has no vegetarian option, but our child happily ate everything that was served to us. We got the vegetarian sampler platter and mango lassi's and it all was delicious. I could see some people complaining about the service simply because no one seemed to have any idea who ordered what and no food was placed in front of the correct person. This didn't really bother us because the service was fast and friendly. We will be frequenting this place for sure. read more

It's just eh. I normally go to Tarka but thought I'd spread my wings. There's just too much going on in their cuisines. If you use the right spices you don't need to overdo it. I got the paneer biranyi and I could barely get though a bite without biting into a leaf, huge strand of fried onions, or a star anise. I get you need that stuff to make it but don't leave the all the random pieces in the dish making it difficult for people to eat. I'll go back to Tarka. read more
