I called to ask about their great buffet pricing and was told very curtly by the man who answered the phone that "it's over." So I asked what the new price is for lunch and he said $7.95. He made no effort to be polite or welcoming so I must assume that they have more than enough customers and not interested in bringing in new ones. It worked because I've decided I am not going! read more

We ate at royal India last night. Some of us were vegetarians. The vegetarians ordered mutter makai curry and a tokri ( which had 3 different naans ). while the others ordered a kheema naan. The entire order came in the same basket. When we asked, they said it was all vegetarian. We started eating the naan with the curry we had ordered. When we tasted it we realized that we had eaten kheema naan. We complained and they took away the plate. But they did not replace the kheema naan for my friends nor did they replace the curry that was taken away with the plate. When we ordered another curry, they said the kitchen was closed. They billed us later with a $5 less for the whole mess. And no one seemed sorry for having done anything wrong .. Inspite of the food being decent, I was very disappointed with the staff, their indifference towards their mistake and their idea of making it up to us by deducting $5 from the check. read more

Mmm Indian food is so good. I am eating my leftovers from here as I write this. I came here with my family last night for dinner. The location is off the beaten path and the inside is pretty quiet. Service was excellent and the waiter answered all of our questions about the menu. To start we ordered the calamari which was salty and fried and very forgettable. Skip ordering that! As my entree I got chicken korma, which is my favorite. It was very good and came with lots of spiced rice. I also really liked the garlic naan. My dad ordered the lamb masala which he enjoyed but it came with a side of mushy vegetables which were pretty gross. We also ordered the okra dish which those who liked okra (not me) enjoyed. The serving sizes are large (hence the leftovers) so you could definitely share an entree. Overall Royal India is decent but not the best. read more

Lunch buffet for around $10/person. Good value, had a great selection, including samosas, which are my fav.

Just had a a very good Sunday Buffett at Royal India while doing errands in Sunset Valley. Vegetarian options taste freshly made with many to choose from. Restaurant is very clean and wait staff very attentive. read more

I love this restaurant...! I have only done the lunch buffets but even that they have excelled in. I am of Indian heritage and I love this restaurant :) I go there every chance I get. Was getting tired of going to just Tarka and Bombay Bistro and this lunch buffet blows both (for us). read more

Came here for the lunch buffet and it was very solid and tasty. They had quite a good selection on the buffet line and the selections were great. The layout of the restaurant was a little interesting but when I eat Indian food I really do not care about much other than the taste, which was good. The service was good as well, however they did not have to do much but refill our glasses read more

I came here on a date and we ordered the Royal Feast for two. The entrees were all really good, especially the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Saag Paneer. The restaurant was kind of dead when we went in and everyone working was waiting on us so we weren't exactly sure who our waiter was. I really enjoyed the appetizers, entrees, and atmosphere, but the dessert was a miss for me. I would come here again. read more

If you want North Indian style food, this is the best place to go to. The food is off the chain. It is so delicious! It is not too spicy but just a perfect amount of spice that captivates your taste buds. They always play Indian music here which is awesome because if I go to an Indian restaurant I want an authentic experience. This place never ceases to satisfy cravings either during full buffet for lunch with quite a variety or for dinner with a nice, peaceful atmosphere. I am a frequent, happy customer. read more

Great service. Paneer pasanda mumtaz and the chicken chettinad were great. Place smells intoxicating.

I love Royal India! My husband and I are frequent guests. We love the Kashmiri Naan bread and all the vegetarian options. They always give us excellent service and they have the best chai tea in town. 5 stars! read more

Mysore chops melt in your mouth lamb chops. Lamb Saar had just the right amount of creamy spicy spinach. Not spicy hot but spicy as in flavorful. The two sample sauces they brought to the table were excellent one sweet one spicy. The service was gracious and attentive without being bothersome. Dinner for 2, with appetizer jalapeno naan, cocktails and one dessert was under $75 with tip. Will definitely go back. Went back twice since original 5 star review. Wow, every time the food tastes like they have a different cook. 2nd visit, medium spicy was no spice, this week spicy was so hot I could barely eat it. There can't be that big a difference between med and spicy or they should offer something in between. The 2nd visit the lamb was way over cooked and dry. I ask for some yogurt and got a $5 dish of watered down riata. I only wanted a little yogurt. We used a groupon for 2nd visit. If you use a groupon appetizers are regular price even if you go during happy hour. So if you have a cocktail and appetizers you are better off to just not use the groupon. I thought the $20 group on could only be used for food not cocktails. I am in agreement with that but then you raise the price of the cocktails and appetizers? All in all, I don't think they are going to make it. Their food is not consistently good, their service people don't speak English so get orders mixed up, and the location is difficult for people. read more

I just left Royal India after forcing myself to go back for another try. This place was once legendary with amazing, fresh, food and attentive service but unfortunately that has changed. I formerly frequented Royal India, especially for the lunch buffet. They featured the standard Indian buffet fare with some unique extras like crispy chilli chicken and different shades of chutney. One of the things that kept me coming back here for years was the service, particularly the exemplary customer service provided by the host. The gentleman that was formerly the host for this establishment was extremely kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, the host that was always so attentive, professional, and real left to find a job somewhere else. Since he has been gone, he was replaced with another man. The new host offers an air of unconcerned triviality and the food has, I'm sorry to say, taken a turn for the worst. This makes me wonder if perhaps other individuals that once worked here have left as well. The current host can often be seen with his earphones in his ears watching episodes of Lost on his iPad while sitting at the bar and ignoring the customers as if he is on a perpetual break. I don't come here for the host, I come here for the food, but the atmosphere of service that once made this place shine is nowhere to be found. The food: I am physically ill while writing this after consuming what tasted like old rancid food. My attractive female companion and myself were astonished at the well below lackluster quality of today's offerings. I seek Indian cuisine for a few specific factors which make it especially enticing to me, those factors are: Freshness: Indian cuisine is notorious for being fresh, this place no longer sells fresh food. Healthy: Typically, I seek out Indian cuisine because it is somewhat healthy and offers a diverse spectrum of essential amino acids, vitamins, and nutrients. Unfortunately, the food offered by this place is mysterious and aged. All in all, I had been waiting to write a review about this place because I wanted to give them a few more chances to get their game back up. I now realize they haven't and I vow to never return. This is unfortunate as my office park is located nearby and many of our staff frequent this establishment. Although, following my writing of this review, our organization's frequency of visits to Royal India will drastically diminish. More stories you ask? I have plenty of eerie tales surrounding my recent experiences at Royal India so here goes: A couple of months ago, my attractive female companion and I decided we were in the mood for some Indian food so we stopped by Royal India for the lunch buffet. As usual, we were directed to our table and asked what beverages we would desire before heading to the buffet to build our plates. I proceeded directly to the main courses section and my companion to the salad section. While I was still at the main buffet section she returned to the table to set down her salad plate before returning to grab a plate from the main buffet. When she returned she whispered to me "Get a new napkin when you go back." and "Don't use the napkin at the table." Dumbfounded, I said "What?" and she replied that she would tell me when we got back to the table. I did as she advised and swiped an extra cloth napkin from another table on the way back to our table and sat down while looking at her curiously. She told me the following story: Apparently, after we left the table, as usual, the waitress came by to fill our water glasses, which are already on the table but have the cloth napkins folded inside the empty glasses. My companion said she watched as the waitress encircled the room filling patron's water glasses while holding onto a leaking open sore on her lips and only removing her hand from her face to pull the cloth napkins out of the glasses before filling them. My companion informed me that she witnessed the waitress come to our table and remove the napkin out of her cup, fill it with water from the pitcher and then before pulling my napkin out of my cup this waitress again proceeded to rub and scratch the giant puss leaking sore that was growing on the corner of her mouth/lips before grabbing my napkin and filling my glass with water. After hearing this story, I looked over at the lackadaisical waitress (there are always two waitresses working here, an older woman with hair typically in a bun and a younger woman with long hair, this incident involved the younger woman) and noticed the large oozing sore she had on the corner of her mouth which made me glad I had grabbed another napkin. All in all, I won't be back to Royal India. I would rather spend my $10.81 somewhere else where I don't have to worry about acquiring Parvovirus B19 or eating food from last week. I would recommend you do the same although the choice is yours. read more

I bought a deal off of Living Social $10 for $20. I didn't have very high hopes. What a wonderful surprise when it turned out to be the best indian food I have had since actually traveling to India. Great service and prices as well. This place is definitely in the rotation from now on. read more

Always past by this place and wanted to try it, finally got the opportunity and stopped in for dinner. Good food plus they have buffet which sounds enticing! Also if you're getting naan the garlic naan is a win! read more

Had dinner here this evening, and was happily surprised at how good it was! The butter chicken was fantastic, and cheesy naan, yum! All the food we received was fresh and very tasty. I am excited that we found a dine-in Indian restaurant that does not require a two hour wait! Definitely adding this to our restaurant list! read more

This is our favorite Indian food place in Austin! We love the buffet. The Butter Chicken is amazing! My wife loves the Aloo Tikki, which they specially make for her when it is not on the buffet. Keep an eye out for the turn in. It is easy to miss! read more

The people posting these negative reviews are either really uptight or just too picky. The restaurant was nice, clean, and seemed upscale for the price we were charged for 2 dinner meals with an appetizer and garlic naan, $28. We waited maybe 1 minute when we walked in. A waiter showed us to our seats. The waiter kept our water glasses topped off throughout the meal. The food was fresh and delicious. The waiter and the host were both attentive and we never had to wait long for our orders or our requests. The only issue I had is, I wished I had shown up for the lunch buffet, so I would've had the opportunity to try out all the dishes that they offer, but I will another day:). Maybe if customers go into these places not expecting to be served like they are kings and queens and instead treat the people that work there like actual people, they will receive the treatment they expect. It's called the golden rule. I will be back soon to check out the lunch buffet and update this review, as well. read more

New and clean. Quality buffet and more offerings than the other 2 Indian buffets ive been visiting. Dolma station was cool, but I still go for the curry and masalla. Good nan. If you want basic Inidan fare with good quality and presentation, give it a try for lunch. Dont be a hero and go off the menu, it always backfires at buffets, ive never had it happen here, but seems the sub 3* reviews here suffer from straying off course. read more

Excellent service and delicious garlic Naan, rasmalai and samosas too!!!! We also had the tikka masala with lamb and the aloo Gobi which were very tasty and worth getting again. The best thing was the samosas though...I can't say enough about them!!!! And they are truly good about service here!!! read more

Let me start off by saying I have never liked Indian food. My wife had a Groupon so I had no choice...I loved everything I ate. We had the Royal Feast for two (can feed 4 by the way) it was delicious. We will be back! read more

This place is awesome! The food is amazing, the service was great and very nice, and the restaurant itself is very upscale. I've tried at least 10 other Indian restaurants in Austin and this has the best tikka masala, pakoras, and salmon tikka. It was scrumtralescent. read more

absolutely wonderful ON ALL LEVELS! Spicing, decor, wait staff, lighting, and the food to die for! desserts very good too. plus a huge menu and nice prices. read more

The food and service was excellent. We had the veggie sampler as the appetizer - this included a samosa, and fried veggies. The accompanying sauces were delicious. I had the chicken tikka masala - the chicken was well cooked and moist, and the tikka masala was a delicious blend of spices (you can order from mild-hot). My husband had the butter chicken, and was very impressed. The chicken, again, was well cooked, and the sauce was very smooth. We had cheese naan with our meal, and it was a great add on (there are several breads to choose from!). The wait staff was VERY attentive and accommodating. They are very new, but give it a try, and see for yourself. Their introductory buffet prices (don't expect them to remain this cheap) are 4.95 for lunch and 6.95 for weekend. We've not tried the buffet, but will be back soon! read more

Seriously bad Indian food. Uncooked meat. Weird pieces of paneer swimming in watery gravy. Bland paneer tikka appetizer. The list of negatives could go on. But I'll stop here because even writing this negative review is not worth it. read more

Great place with excellent customer service. Restaurant has warm, welcoming decor with peaceful music, and all of the servers are very polite, respectful, and attentive. The manager (or owner) checked on us periodically, each time offering great customer service, including offering us a desert on the house. Nice touch. He even had our table cleaned off after dinner. We had the vegetable korma and bhindi masala, which were both delicious. The only thing I could say I didn't care too much for was the pashwari naan, which was a bit too sweet for me. Other than that, very pleased with the experience and we'll definitely be back. read more

Coriander - Amazing Appetizer! - Indian Near Me - Austin, Texas

Visited for the lunch buffet - I found it enticing and the food very good. Good variety of vegetarian dishes - always one of my concerns. Spicy enough to be interesting, but not so much as to cause suffering. Nice atmosphere - cloth napkins. For 8 bucks, I thought it was a very good deal. I will visit again. read more

These other bad reviews seem like BS. We just came and used the groupon. Food was great, service was good, the owner came and said hi and was extremely friendly. The only reason i gave it 4 stars is because I eat a ton of indian food and hold them all to a high standard. Would recommend and will be back! read more

Bland, undercooked food. The naans were soggy and the biryani was the worst I've ever had in this town.

We like the food here. It is good as is, but when we order it extra spicy, they have no issues accommodating our needs. We have Never been disappointed and the service is spectacular. I never have to wait for a drink refill or ask for anything twice. On the weekends they have a belly dancer which is fun. read more

Holy hell, a weekend lunch buffet for just $10.99??! I need to start coming here more often. Wish they had just a few more meat options (when I came there were two chicken dishes and a meatball dish) but other than that, the food was good (sauces/condiments were bomb), the service was on point, and the restaurant is lovely and clean. read more

With the name change came a new and delicious menu. It was some of the best Indian food I've had in Austin!! The first time I went they had a beet masala which was AMAZING!!!! I wish they would put it on the permanent menu. The rest of the dishes were the standard dishes you find at Indian buffets. They were executed perfectly- light with the cream and heavy on spices. Can't wait to go back. read more

Not authentic. High quality, but not authentic. We ordered Chicken 65 and it was drenched in some sweet red sauce, reshmi kebabs and they weren't reshmi at all they were sheikh, they salted the mango lassi, and the chicken biryani was actually good- spicy and nice flavor. I want to call this cuisine AmerIndian. The prices were okay for the quality. I just think that this is Indian food for people who have never had authentic. read more
