I totally love this place. The food is consistently good, the staff is very pleasant and always helpful, and they also offer a to go buffet.

I came to eat here becuase the new place might be better. Alas it wasn't. Infact it was one notch down if that is possible. They not only changed the name but they also went down in quality. I wish there was at least one dish at the lunch buffet that I could say that stood out. Pretty average Indian buffet fare. The gulab jamuns were made doughy and solid. We went at lunch time on a friday and the place was relatively empty. The service was fine. Wish they would improve their food and rise about the bland uninspired far if they want to survive. read more

The worst place ever to have food... most people don't believe these kinds of review because they think it's fake but please take a look at the photos which I post below.. biryani is really worst because it's some kind of mixing biryani in some kind of tomato sauce.. who will really have that kind of biryani .. all gravies are sweet and tasteless.. dosa is dry, Sambar is sour and what else we can expect from such a restaurant.. so Its my kind request to all fellow Indians please don't have food in coriander.. and last of all naans are all just thick batter and wet .. read more

Review on Lunch Buffet: Lunch Buffet here is the worst that I have had in USA. The food was pathetic with no taste at all. There is hardly an item that you can eat and be satisfied. I am a vegetarian & it makes no sense to go there for lunch, as there are hardly any options. I will not suggest this restaurant to any of my friends for a lunch buffet.. Its total waste of money. read more

Today was going to be my first time trying Coriander. I placed a takeout order through yelp, paid and received a confirmation email right away. At that point I was sitting in my car at the restaurant's parking lot and waited about 20 minutes to go in and attempt to pick up my order. To my surprise, once I told the host I was there to pick up my order, he tells me that the restaurant never received it. I show him my email confirmation, he goes into the kitchen and comes back saying "sorry, we didn't receive your order". Frustrated, I said I would call Grubhub to check and the gentleman agreed. The reason why I am giving this a one star review, even though I didn't taste the food, I feel that the customer service that I received at the restaurant wasn't good. No offer to cook the order for me, or to ask the kitchen if they could make a new order. I would have waited, hungry as I was, and eager to try Coriander. But instead, I left without an offer for a resolution. Pretty disappointing! read more

Went to Coriander with my wife and we really enjoyed it the first time. The second time we went, the green curry that I ordered had shrimp and the taste was especially strong of seafood. It was not until the next day that I started to realize that the shrimp was probably undercooked because I was sick for a week. I called the management and they were very helpful about the situation. read more

Used my Groupon - was not disappointed. This is the first time we have ordered Indian food off the menu - having always been to the buffet. This was our first time at Royal India. I just don't see how we could have gone wrong. Strong on quality, ambiance, and service. read more

This place is excellent. The quality of food is always really high, and much better than a lot of other well known Indian restaurants in town. My favorite item is their naan, they make it in so many varieties and they're all great. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for great Indian food. read more

Very welcoming and warm customer service, especially Jay is customer friendly with smile..I would recommend this place to all my family and friends. read more

DELICIOUS food, heaping portions, good prices, and very friendly staff. One of the absolute Best Indian restaurants in all of Austin.

Solid portion size, reasonable price, but bland. Even asked for it spicy which didn't happen. Probably won't return.

My friend had a graduation party there and they were so nice! They offered her all the choices she wanted and even gave her delicious pudding. Even with so many people they managed to fill drinks perfectly on time. They made sure that everything was perfect and normally I'm not a big fan of Indian but this food was pretty tasty! I would recommend this place to my friends. read more

Was going to have dinner at Clay Pit, as that place is great every time, but thought we'd try Royal india because it's less of a drive. Boy are we glad we did! The food is excellent--authentic and creative, service is great and management came by our table several times to make sure everything was to our liking. They are super accommodating and knowledgable as to what ingredients are in the dishes (I have a severe gluten allergy). Will definitely come back! I have never had palak paneer so tasty! read more

I have been to dinner here about 8 times now and its been consistently good. I was not impressed with the one time I had the lunch buffet though. The manager and the waiters are very pleasant. Their curries taste authentic with the right blend of spices. Most places, its either sweet (gag) or spicy. The chicken chettinad is the best Chicken chettinad around according to meat eating friends of mine. read more

The took my order wrong. Instead of mashroom Marat I got paneer matar. Kids were hungry . They made us to wait for half an hour and bread got cold. When I asked them to change they got Mashroom masala , spices were not blended good. Whole coriander were added in masala . I don't recommend this place read more

First the good part - the food is very good, spicy, fresh, hot and tasty. Now, for the "rest of the story" - if you want to eat at this restaurant, you'd better hurry as I doubt they'll be in business long. The service is non-existent. Our waitress -she was also the greeter - apologized that she "wasn't good with a tray yet - I haven't been trained to use it yet" (Huh?) either didn't know, or "wasn't trained yet" to advise us on our dinner choices. I would have really appreciated a heads-up that the chicken Biryani dish our kids ordered was very spicy (I mean HOT, HOT, HOT). I guess I should be grateful she made time to come to our table to take our order. Lots of staff bustling about, but plenty of customers not being waited on properly (we had to continually ask for drink refills). In fact, we noticed people from at least one table who simply got tired of waiting to be served, and walked out. I ordered the Royal Grill and after (finally) being served, started eating it. About 10 minutes into my meal, a server came and gave me a cup of some type of tomato sauce that was supposed to accompany my meal. The sauce was very good and complimented the grilled meats very well, but it would have been great to have had it served at the same time as the rest of the meal. After eating, we waited forever until we could catch the attention of our "waitress-in-training" to get the check. By the way, the lack of service was so profound, I did something I very rarely if ever do - I didn't leave a tip. I know, I know - in fact, I spent quite a bit of time when I was younger working in restaurants, and I know how the staff depend on the tips. I can't actually remember service this poor. This will be our first, last, and only visit to the Royal India. At my age (56), I'm afraid I'd either be too old to eat my meal when it finally arrived, or retired. My wife is a bit more optimistic, but strongly advises potential diners to bring a sack lunch and a pillow and blanket with them to the Royal India. By the way, I gave a 1-star rating for the food, and if I could have given negative star ratings (for the service), I would have done so. read more

We've recently discovered Royal India, the South Austin location and have found it to be our favourite place to go for a night out! Our first observation is Raj (the manager) greets you at the door warmly and leads you to a table. Raj is a fantastic host and makes the experience worth it just to have a chat with him. My husband and I moved to Austin in the past year from the UK (England) where Indian food is very popular and one of our favourite things to eat. We had resolved that the likelihood of finding a good Indian food place in Texas would probably be slim. Then one of our friends found Royal India ( a family also from the UK) and recommended it to us, so we went to check it out. The result was I don't think I ever had a curry and naan bread as nice as the one I had that first evening, when that was added to the quality of service coming from Raj, we were determined we would be back again. We went for a 2nd time the following week, I could hardly wait to get back! Again the meal was very satisfying as was the greeting from Raj. We now are telling friends about this place and plan to go again with several friends next week! So glad to find a tasty curry in Austin Texas!!! read more

This is my favorite Indian place in town! I don't understand the negative reviews at all. It's clean, fast, super friendly, consistent, and delicious. You can specify your spice level--I like spicy things and the medium is all I can handle. Once I got adventurous and ordered medium-hot and I was crying. So the people who think it's bland must not be ordering correctly. I'll admit there may be a language barrier depending on your sever, but they make an effort to get it right and the few times something has been not what I was expecting, they've immediately fixed it and given me something for free. It's hidden behind a big oak tree so it's hard to see if they are open. This is where I go when I've had a bad day and want something to cheer me up. So good! read more

The staff was rude. I purchased a living social and when I called and asked to use it for a take out order I was told it was OK. Then, when I went to pick up my food I was told it was for dine in only. Then, the hostess and another lady snickered to themselves when I asked why I wasn't told that on the phone when I placed the order. Needless to say I cancelled my Livingsocial (5 stars to them for a great refund policy) and won't be going back. I don't care how good the food is, no one likes being treated rudely. read more

There was nothing Royal or Indian about this restaurant. The only thing Indian about this place was the man at the counter who took our money and did not bother to even ask if we like the food. The service was bad, the food was bland, and was not spiced correctly at all. This was without a doubt almost as bad as Pakwan. read more

This place is truly a hidden gem. My girlfriend and I discovered it while browsing Ubereats. We love the Vindaloo (tomato/potato curry), spicy rice biryani, and the chicken tikka masala. Oh, and don't forget to try the amazing garlic naan. Wow!! Coming from spoiled foodies! read more

A great Indian food lunch buffet. Many delicious food selections from stainless steel food warmers. If you like Indian food then this restaurant is a must. read more

I went in not expecting to like this place, and came out a fan. The decor isn't anything to really write home about, but the service was unobtrusive, and the food was great! The place was pretty slow, but I'm not complaining; everything I wanted came out in a very timely manner, and they made sure to keep my wine and water glasses full. I'm guessing they're popular with delivery services as I kept seeing various drivers with massive stacks of to-go boxes exiting the building throughout the night. I eat a lot of Indian food, and I'd say this one is definitely up there. It's the fanciest, but the spices (the most important part to me) are on point. read more

Decided to try this place for the first time today. Between the food and the service, this was just awful, and I've been to a lot of different Indian Buffets. Not one person was friendly - when I walk in the owner or manager is on the phone, looks at me and without smiling just kind of waves me off, like go find a table. Okay fine. I grab a booth and tell one of the waiters I just want water. I go up and grab my first plate and when I get back to my table, I still have no water. Yet they aren't even busy. I start trying my food - basically everything was sub par in terms of taste - some things were too salty, the rice seemed like it was under cooked (like hard pieces), the palak pakoda was mushy and mainly tasted like batter, the eggplant dish was so bad I couldn't even finish it. Meanwhile one of the waiters, a young kid, is constantly walking slowly by my table, making me really uncomfortable. I did finally get some water thankfully. I go up and grab seconds, and the second time around items weren't any better than my first plate. The tandoori chicken tasted like it had been microwaved and then sat out under a heat lamp for 3 hours - completely awful. The chicken tikka masala tasted really salty or something to me, there was a potato and carrot dish that was really bland... The food *was* edible, and if you hadn't eaten in three days I'm sure it would be great, but for me it was very sub par and I could barely eat more than a few bites of everything. You would think the busser would have asked if everything was okay, but not ONE person said a word to me the whole time I was there. I asked for the check and the waiter just looks at me with a blank stare and walks off, not even replying "okay". The waiter who dropped off my check never said "thanks", and in fact after paying, he grabbed the signed receipt off my table without saying anything to me before I had a chance to get up and leave. Bombay Bistro and Clay Pit are so much better. I won't be going back to Royal India. read more

This restaurant was recommended by one of our Indian customers as the best Indian food in Austin, and as far as I'm concerned it is. The chicken tikka masala is so delicious I've been ordering it weekly. The garlic naan is wonderful too. And the saag paneer. Everything I've tried has been unbelievably tasty. The restaurant is a little hard to locate, on the Hwy 290 west-bound service road next to a Holiday Inn. I hope it stays in business for a long, long time. read more

This our first time and we love it. We ordered the dinner for two and there was more than enough for me and my wife. We don't care much for the dessert by it really didn't matter as there was so much food from the main course. We will definitely come back. read more

I had Royal India cater a small party of 20ish adults and some kiddos. I had a great experience and will definitely reach out to them again for future catering needs. Prabhu was polite and always quick to answer my questions, the price was fair, the food was delicious, and the quantity was incredible. Royal India doesn't deliver, so my friends went to the restaurant to retrieve the order. Royal India loaded everything into the car for my friends, which was extremely helpful in the rainy weather. Our guests enjoyed the food and I appreciated the service, I'm a happy customer! read more

Chilli powder is probably a better name for this place. They need to understand that "spicy" doesn't mean dumping an unbearable amount of chilli powder; that's coming from an Indian! Their naan is soggy and their curries just taste like a generic mix of masala powder and chilies. I guess I need to travel way up north for authentic Indian food. read more

5 stars because I honestly didn't like Indian food before I came here , I love their garlic naan and their chicken masala!! I honestly recommend this restaurant I love Indian food now! read more

So, I will start by saying that the environment is the only thing that kept this place from getting five stars. When we went in, it was quite; there was not any music and the ambiance was pretty flat. I could hear other people's convos and they could hear us. After about 40 minutes, music came on, though. Staff was friendly enough. Now for the FOOD! The food was really good! I ordered chicken vindaloo (hot spice) and my wife ordered chicken tikka masala (medium spice). The vindaloo was really good. Nice flavor, but not too overpowering. Tikka masala was GREAT! Out of the three or four places I've tried in town, that was the best tikka masala I've had out of the group. Naan was a little pricey, but it was good as well. Samosas were solid too. My wife got a little sick, but she has a sensitive stomach. Now, this has happened consistently to her at this establishment so if your stomach is sensitive, this may not be the place for you. Overall, really good. read more

The Chicken Curry was spectacular! I brought home the remaining portion of the dinner and had to guard it against thievery from my husband. Seriously, this food is so good that I have been begging to go back and the leftovers from our large portions were eaten before morning. The service was quiet, polite, and efficient. The menu has options to accommodate every lifestyle and religious food choice, including gluten free. read more

Have been here few times for the lunch buffet. The taste has been great (on most items) and would recommend it to all.

Well, that was nice! We had samosas, chicken tiki masala, lamb saag and naan. The meat in both of the entrees was tender and moist. We enjoyed the lamb saag but the sauce in the chicken tiki masala was outstanding. There was a depth to it. The flavor was rich and rounded. Nice! We'll definitely be back. Next time we'll order our food spicy. We did medium this time and now that we know it's safe to do spicy, we will! read more

We went for the buffet with a coupon to check it out. The waitress didn't even ask what we wanted to drink or anything so that was weird. The vegetarian options were ok but not great. Compared to Bombay Bistro, this place is a distant second. read more

I was on my way to my Doctor's appointment and I saw their ad in Community Impact, I decided to give it a shot, there were only 2 customers and I was the 3rd. Took the family to this restaurant tonight and we were the only folks there for most of our meal. It had me worried until the wait staff took over and gave us the best service along with the best Indian food I've had since I was last in London! As a person from that area of the subcontinent, I find it hilarious to see people who are used to the fabulous (note the sarcasm) indian cuisine of austin talk badly about Coriander. This place is by FAR the best indian restaurant i've EVER been to in Austin. Sorry it's not designed for the texan palate but it is very authentic and delicious. As for background..I make indian food daily. This tasted like my food. I was worried that my son, who LOVES indian food, in particular Biryani wouldn't be able to find it...and he was drooling for it. Now I don't have to buy my own Indian restaurant to make outstanding biryani. The service was very nice. If you're having a bad day it reflects on your tone towards your server as well as the taste of your food. Get over it. read more

I am from India and a regular at this restaurant. I am usually very picky about my food but my friends and I absolutely love this place. positives- paneer makhni is good, garlic naan is fresh, if you like rice they give plenty with every dish, samosas are good, negatives -salt level is not consistent last time when i was there there was no salt in the food at all but yesterday we took togo food and laal maas was so salty that i had to throw it. mind it i am an indian and my salt tolerance is way high. - they add food color which makes atleast laal maas pathetic to even look at. no natural color of spices as it is supposed to be - roti was not well cooked - overall every dish is full of cream, so if you feel like tasting the veggie and eat something healthy still tasty forget it - overpriced - portions are tiny - got them many customers after my first visit but food is nvr consistent tasting. i guess they change chefs too often. - went for buffet one day... Food is even worse.. Not even one thing was good except sweet dish, no chaat section in buffet, watery chicken tikka, flavorless biryani, goat curry was nothing but tomato purée , never trying again. i really don't feel like going there again after yesterday's low quality colored salty food i had to throw read more

Service, service, service. It's called Food Service for a reason. They got the food part right, but the everlastingly terrible service was a definite blemish on their score. I went for dinner and while we were seated immediately and our drinks were brought out quickly (don't purchase a cocktail here, the bartender can't mix alcohol to save his life), the experience was all downhill from there. The appetizers took about 15 min to come out (not bad), but they continually tried to take away the plates while there was still food on them. I could maybe understand this if our entrees were about to come out, but no. We finally let them take the plates (by grabbing the last bite on a fork as the plate was in the air) and that was the last communication we had with them for an hour. The tables around us that we're seated after us got their entrees quickly and one table even finished and left before I was able to flag down what looked liked the manager and inquire about the long wait. He apologized, and what do you know, our food comes out immediately after he goes into the kitchen. Granted, the food quality was very good, but that in no way excuses an hour wait for three entrees with absolutely no communication. Maybe the lunch buffet would be a better choice so I won't have to wait for my food, but now I beg the question; will they be able to keep the buffet stocked? read more
