This review is about my experience using one of their PCs. ~~~ I love this place! I'm so glad I know it exists. In the last few years, since that Korean-owned cyber cafe on Telegraph closed down, I haven't been able to find any affordable place to rent a computer. It really sucks when your laser printer runs out of toner, you can't afford to buy a new cartridge, you can't afford to go use Kinko's computers, but you need to print out something important. But all that's changed now that I know about Copy World! For about $5, I used one of their PCs for about 40 minutes, printed about 10 B/W pages, made 10 B/W copies, and bought 3 envelopes. All this would have cost at least $20 at Kinko's. Also, the guys at the counter were efficient and nice. When I approached the counter, they dropped everything to help me, and there was no hint of attitude like you usually get at the aforementioned places. This will be my go-to place for when I need to rent a computer. Yay, Copy World! read more

Copy World is a life saver! I went to Copy World for some faxing I needed done and the employee working was super helpful. They had me fill out a cover sheet and they took care of the rest. I was given a confirmation page for my records, paid, and I was on my way. The place is giant and I was pretty intimidated upon entering but the employees are helpful and clearly hard at work. Copyworld used to be helpful but after this week I'd retract that statement. They used to do UV coating for me a number of times throughout the years. Last week I brought a job in with instructions and a date needed, also asking them to call me once completed. None of that was done. I called Monday to see if it was completed and it wasn't even though my directions said it was needed that day. The lady told me I have to call back in the afternoon to check if its able to be completed and she didn't even know if her "UV guy" is coming in at all. You're providing a service--as general common sense in customer service 101, shouldn't you be calling me back to get my business again? I guess not since they turned me down today too. Had my company driver bring a job over there today. They told him they don't do UV coating anymore. Uhm, you just did it for me two days ago, didn't you? Asked my driver to put the manager/owner on (Hagan). First off, what a jerk. All I got were very sparse answers with "yup" and "nope" as answers. After giving you years of business, grant it, it's not every month but at least its business, you're going to give me "yup" and "nope" as responses? Poor customer service. Poor responses. Not helpful at all and didn't appreciate Hagan's attitude to rush me off the phone without any explanation. read more

I needed to use a pc instead of my mac for certain documents and gave Copy World a try. I believe the rate was $5 per hour. The business seemed well run and capable of helping promote businesses in general with various printing options. I also noticed they take passport pictures. I usually go directly to their SF location which works fine but decided to order prints online this time and paid for next day delivery to SF for pickup. They only delivered half my order and then tried to blame me for the 2nd half of the order not being processed at the same time. They finally admitted that their driver forgot to pick up the other half of the order which was still sitting at their Berkeley location. Mistakes happen but they refused to take responsibility or give me a discount or a coupon for a future order considering I paid for next day delivery and it was now 2 days later. Not to mention I had to go down to the SF location twice which isn't a cheap ride for me. Very poor customer service in my opinion. read more

Wow, very impressed with the friendly and professional customer service at Copy World. I had a very small project (enlarging a sketch and printing on colored paper for a friend's birthday) and was almost embarrassed as this place appears to take much larger business/industrial-size jobs. On the contrary, the guy working the counter this morning was extremely helpful, and took the time to help me through my half-baked plan. Within about 10-15 minutes I had an awesome personalized gift for my friend's b-day. I was amazed too because it seemed like there were several guys working and each would bounce to help several customers who needed help, but as soon as I was done deciding about what I wanted, it was easy to get the attention of the guy helping me again. Hands down one of the best vendors I've ever worked with. The 1st time I used Copy World they were fast, high quality, and offered the lowest prices in the Berkeley/Emeryville area. The 2nd time we worked together, they were all that, and more... I ordered some 2400 copies of color and black and white worksheets. When I got home I realized some 300 were missing - a problem because we were on a tight deadline. I called Copy World and reported the 300 missing. They double checked their printers and confirmed all 2400 got printed, but they told me to double check my count. If I couldn't find the missing 300, they would reprint them. I double checked my count and was stilling missing the 300, so I called back and they said the reprints would be available w/n half an hour. 3 hours later...I discovered the "missing" worksheets. I had placed them on a chair, pushed the chair in, and had no idea they were hidden there. So in short, I messed up, and Copy World *still* saved the day. We hit our deadline and absolutely couldn't have done it without them. I'm so impressed by, and grateful, for their customer service. If you're considering using Copy World, I highly, and unequivocally, recommend giving them a shot. read more

I often wonder how you can screw up a copy shop and pretty much this place is a good example of how you can do a bad job. The staff is totally unconcerned and pays no special attention to high cost big volume jobs. I usually do smaller copy jobs and the staff is always rude and the price is maddening. The flyers may state one price, but that is for a high volume job. They nickle and dime you for everything such as 30 seconds on a computer and then a surcharge and then when their printer jams they charge you for that. I live very near here but would rather use the library than this place. read more

I was surprised to find that this place has no notary service, since it so resembles a dingy government office and has computers w/internet, passport/visa pics, etc. The kid at the counter was unhelpful and uninterested, but I'm still rating them rather highly because I noticed that their copies are SO CHEAP! I honestly cannot comment on the quality of work this business produces. However, I will comment on their professionalism and the quality of customer service they provide. I was attempting to have 150 copies of my grandmother's obituary printed from a PDF file I had on a thumb drive. I discussed with Jay what I needed and he advised me to bring my thumb drive with the PDF file before 5pm AND to send the file to him via email attachment, which would allow him to print a proof so that I can review and approve it. I sent the email and called Jay to let him know I was on my way. Jay stated he was leaving for the day, but Ali would assist me. Red flag #1! This is not what we discussed earlier, but time was an issue and because Jay quoted a 24 hour turn around IF I got the file to them by 5pm, I decided to move forward. I asked for Ali upon my arrival and someone just pointed in his directions. I then walked over and asked if he was Ali and he just nodded his head yes. I went on to explain my discussion with Jay and asked if he received the email. He said "no." I didn't understand, because Jay stated they did, in fact, receive it. After stating that to Ali, he checked a second time and said he had it. Red flag #2! He then stated the file was the wrong size, but I explained it was larger to avoid a white border around the edges - which is called a "bleed". Long story short, he didn't understand what I was talking about and said he couldn't accept my order because of the size and even refused to print a simple test copy. Ali even had the audacity to tell me to come back tomorrow to speak with Jay. What, then, is his purpose? Red flag #3. I just should have ran out of there at point, but because I was pressed for time and truly needed to have the document printed as soon as possible so that I can take care of all the things necessary to arrange the memorial service, I decided to try again the next morning in hopes of working with Jay. I arrived at 9am, another rude employee - a woman who kept answering the phone and talking to other customers and her co-workers while assisting me finally informed me that Jay will not be in until 10:30am. Oh my goodness, I think it is safe to stop the story here because the craziness continued. Basically my experience ended with the same rude woman telling me to "go to someone else." Wow! In addition to getting the run around, I had the rudest service I've experienced in a very long while. Jay was unreliable, Ali was rude and condescending, and the nameless woman was rude and dismissive. Turns out, this is a family business; Ali is the manager's brother! They did not, and will NEVER get my business. I went to another company in the same area and they not only greeted me professionally, they knew about "bleeds", and completed the job the same day and for less! BEWARE COPY WORLD! read more

I love this place! We got rid of our printer years ago and ride down here on our bikes to print up what we need. They are polite and helpful. Sometimes you have to wait to get printing help but sometimes not. I appreciate their being there. I do see complaints about security risks for files. You need to be smart about what you download on their computer. You will have to remember to delete them as well as log out of your email when you close up. I see all sorts of private files under "downloads" on the computer. So be smart. read more

I've used a big chain store for the last decade to print business materials like data sheets, case studies, etc. I started using Copyworld a few weeks ago, and am really pleased. Their self-service color printer renders better colors, and pricing is lower. My most recent job was printing and binding a 100-page book, and these guys got it done quickly and correctly. It's often that you hear about negative reviews. But it actually takes more effort to write a positive review IMOO. In fact, my experience started off a little rocky. My printing job while very economical, was not optimized based on the color pallet of our original design. After noticing the discrepancy, I called the Berkeley CopyWorld and spoke with the owner, Ali. He listened intently and provided several options. We finally settled on a reprint in a different format. After receipt, Ali and his team quickly turned the reprint job around. Thank you for turning a dissatisfied client into a fan.
