Copa Vida es una copa que me encanta! This is such a beautiful place and the coffee is amazing! There is a birght space for people to sit and chat while they listen to live music or hanging out. There is a nice back area that was taken up by students and people working on their laptops. The service was excellent and I am looking forward to trying all of the pastries. When we walked in on a Saturday night, it was actually kind of quiet so the boyfriend and I got some snuggling in while enjoying a cup off coffee. Great place for dessert and catch ups. -Hot chocolate: Yes, I'm one of THOSE who order hot chocolate at an artisan coffee place. CV's was incredibly creamy and about 10000x's better than Starbucks' insult to Hershey's Syrup. Chocolate had a bold presence and paired well with my pie. YUM. Pasadena has many good coffee shops and I have to admit, I'm slightly jealous of that since I don't live close to many non-chain coffee shops. This was actually my friend's favorite coffee shop so she brought me here to grab a cup of coffee for a morning pick me up. A nice parking structure is conveniently located across the street from this place, and we didn't even have to pay for parking. Once you walk in, it just feels very open, spacious and maybe even a tad hipster-ish. I love the wooden bar bench tables, and the fact that many of the furniture inside has the raw wood look to it. However, the coffee itself was just ok for me. I ordered a plain iced coffee and to my surprise, their "condiment" station did not include half and half. They only had milk, and an very nice assortment of honey, agave, brown sugar syrup, all the fancy stuff. Perhaps it was the lack of half and half that I thought the coffee was a bit too bitter for my taste. I think I'll have to come back and try one of their more unique drinks to give this place a fair assessment. For now, 3 stars it is. read more

This place is spacious and very classy-cozy. It has cute bar/table to sit at near the window (check) - as well as other various seating, free wifi (omg, pasadena coffee shops don't usually have this - check!), and outlets for your computer! YAY. So all very awesome. The only downside is that a tiny hot chocolate (okay, it's cute and I guess I shouldn't be drinking an ginormous mug of hot chocolate) is almost $5 (with tax and tip - that I think they make you pay). And that hot chocolate was not very hot. They do have free water though. The staff is hipster-friendly. You know what that means. read more

Loved the atmosphere here. My friend and I both ordered from their "Milk + Tea" portion of the menu. I got the brûlée mint latte, and she got the organic masala chai. Both were $4.50, but the mugs were huge. I really liked the pretty milk foam art on my tea latte too! I wanted the brûlée mint latte because I love minty drinks (but this one was really subtle), and it was caffeine-free. It was late at night, so I didn't want to get myself too wired. They have a pretty big drink selection, and their coffees are either considered "hot pressure drinks" or "cold pressure drinks" - I guess this is their way of describing how they make the drinks, which is a process in itself. What a nice place to hang out, chat, or work on a laptop. My mint brûlée latte was so interesting and tasty. The word brulee always attract me so even though it is with mint tea, still tempted to try it. Didn't think those two flavors will mix well together, but I was wrong, It had a nice depth and balance to it, and it wasn't too sweet. Chicken salad open face sandwich was bigger than I imagined and tastes very fresh and wholesome with arugula and cranberries on very crunchy bread. Yum! My favorite has to be the Affogato with vanilla ice cream. The espresso that was poured over the ice cream smelled so good and it tasted perfect with the melted ice cream. The coffee and tea here is excellent and flawlessly prepared. I often order the Organic Masala Chai with soy milk, the Organic Peppermint Tea (hot tea), or the Hibiscus Cooler (an iced tea). I have never been disappointed with my order. The staff at Copa Vida is very friendly - taking the time to learn my name. Frank always says "Hi!" I like the ambience as well as the decor at Copa Vida. It is quite a large cafe. I study here a couple of times a week and actually get a lot of studying done. It is a bit difficult to come here with large groups since most tables are for 2 people, but for my studying purposes Copa Vida is the perfect study spot. read more

Um, this place is awesome!! I wish I lived closer so I could come more often! I was in the area for a work meeting so my friend and I came to grab breakfast. I ordered an iced latte sweetened with agave syrup and a veggie breakfast burrito with bacon (per the recommendation of the guy taking my order). The latte was soooooooo delicious and smooth...... I drank it slowly because I wanted to savor every sip and wanted more when I finished it. The burrito was really big and a good bang for your buck! It even comes with a side of fresh cut fruit so you can mentally alleviate some of that guilt from eating a big freakin burrito for breakfast haha. This was my first time coming here and I enjoyed my experience. I definitely like the energy of the place and the decor was aesthetically pleasing. The coffee wasn't half bad either. I ordered a latte and decided to sit in the shop with my friend in the morning. It was quite tranquil and relaxing. The breakfast menu looked very tempting with their breakfast wraps. I came here on a Saturday around 1130am and we had to wait a reasonably 10-15 minutes in line. We ordered avocado toast, chorizo egg hash, french toast, croque madame, and latte. It is definitely on the pricier side but I think it is worth it and I would come back again and again~ I highly recommended! read more

I've passed by this place a few times on my way to Old Town Pas and I've been meaning to check it out. Since I needed to finish my book and wanted to sit down at a coffee shop, I decided to come here. As many people who frequent Old Town Pasadena knows, there's a building with free 90 minute parking, so take advantage of it! Just remember to set an alarm ;) The first impression I got from this place was that it was really clean, and it seemed a bit hipster, along with the baristas. Don't get me wrong though, the baristas were pretty nice to the customers, especially since they remembered customers' names as they walked in, as well as my name when I left the coffee shop. However, while I was sitting there with my book, I heard one of the baristas give a first-time patron a discount. It's my first time, where's my discount :( But regardless...about the drink I got. I got the Brulee Mint Latte, which was pretty good. It wasn't too sweet, and I liked how they gave you an extra cup on the side. If it was only the small Copa Vida coffee cup by itself, I don't think it would have been worth the $5. But the drink was good and unique, but not amazingly delicious. I liked how the mint wasn't overpowering, but you can definitely tell it was there. Overall, I like this place. Oh and while I was there, they played really good jazz music, but then they changed it to indie, which was still chill. They also serve food, but I think I overheard that their kitchen closes at 3PM! read more

Regrettably, my experience Sunday morning, March 4, 2023, was not very good. Staff seemed stressed and distant. The drink I ordered was a hot mocha mint macchiato and it was neither hot or minty. I've been looking for a coffee shop like this in Pasadena for a veerrrry long time. This is now my go to place for a cup of quality black coffee and a nice baked good if I'm in the mood. Everything about this little coffee shop is an A+ except for whole parking situation. I get that it's Pasadena and it's busy and yada yada yada, but I'm just really not digging the whole parking in structure that only last 90 minutes or paying for a meter thing. I usually like to study in coffee shops so I just really don't like how it feels kinda pressured or rushed. Other than that though.....inside is so cute. Really really spacious for a coffee shop on the corner of the street. I like the whole vintage meets modern vibe they have going on in there; the lighting is great where you order and a little more toned down in the room next door where there's more seating. Coffee was great too. When you order, I like how they give you everything in a mug or a glass and not those cheapo to-go cups. Maybe it's just me and I'm a coffee snob? Hahahaha. I love Copa! My first visit here was for a latte art class last year(whether you're a coffee nerd, budding barista, or a culture seeker I recommend keeping an eye on social media to see when they are offering classes!) and Frank was so patient and passionate about his work. Their espresso is top notch and their baristas clearly work on their skills in each area before moving on to bar, so you can expect excellence in your cup at each visit. This last time around I brought my boyfriend with me and he was impressed with the quality of environment, as well as his order. We came in around 11 on a weekday so it was pretty full but not packed- parking was easy to find right across the street(90 minutes free!) and after we ordered seating was pretty easy to find as well. The layout of the shop is smart- the front is where most of the staff is planted and there's tons of natural light to make your time feel relaxed and not rushed. I don't know about you all but I despise fluorescent lighting. There's some hustle and bustle if there's a line but you can check out their current bean offerings and merch while you wait for your drink. The other side is darker, a little slower, and more intimate. We chose to sit here to enjoy our lattes and read for a few hours. Part of me was hesitant because the drinks were being called out on the other side but the barista was very friendly and she did make her way to the slow bar to call my name, so they're prepared and you don't feel guilty for not hearing your name the first time if this happens. We waited just a few minutes for our food- the Croque Madame, a Yelp favorite from what I had researched in past visits. The ham and bread tasted fresh and full of flavor, the egg was the perfect texture(it was a cloudy day so this was comforting- not too runny but not solid), and it came with a side of fresh potato chips. I think next time I would get the side salad instead of the chips because the food was so rich. Our total before tip was $22, judge that how you will. I have no regrets. Overall I'm still a huge fan of Copa Vida and will never think twice about spending my splurge days here. read more

A lot of people use copa vida to have meetings or to do work (especially on the weekday) - but that is limited on the weekend since they turn the wifi off. This is a order/pay then seat yourself type of venue, so seating can be limited (especially when it gets packed). Most recently they decreased their portion sizes for brunch. Randomly came to this place for brunch with my friend on a Friday. Then it becomes one of my favorite brunch places. Strongly recommend their signature Croque Madame with salad. It served warm and fresh. Love its salad too. I ordered a Matcha latte and it tasted a little too sweet but my friend loved it tho. Although we went there on a Friday morning, this place was a bit busy and almost full of people. I don't think they have their own parking lot. We just parked on the street. Copa Vida is definitely one of the better coffee shops in Old Town, and is perhaps the best (sorry Intelligentsia, your bow ties and $8 cups of coffee are cute but don't quite cut it). I come here when I'm not in a mad rush and actually want to enjoy my coffee, as opposed to hastily gulping something down just to get the job done. I'm a purist when it comes to coffee and don't like to deviate too far outside the box, so when I come here I usually stick with either a pour over or an Americano. Both the coffee and espresso are solid, and are much better than what you'd get if you went to somewhere like Starbucks or Coffee Bean. They have a decent selection of specialty drinks and teas, and also serve light breakfast and lunch. I've never tried the food, but it looks pretty good. Everything else is pretty much what you'd expect at any indie, non-corporate coffee house. The space is sleek and quaint and is totally some place where I could settle in and work for a while. The prices fall on the higher side of average but aren't unreasonable. The staff is sufficiently friendly and sufficiently hip. Parking around here can be a bear. If you're not lucky enough to snag a meter nearby, try parking in the garage on the opposite corner. The first 90 minutes are free. read more
