Food is good but the last couple of times we visited the service was awful. Had to get up and track down my waiter on one occasion to get my check, on another visit it took me asking 5 times for a straw!!!! I will not return to this location again. I have tried the Avondale location and so far it's been good. Let's see if this last or follows the Surprise location. read more

Great food with phenomenal service. Have been here a few times and everything on the menu is wonderful.

My husband and I decided to finally try Cooper's Hawk and we were very pleased. We made a reservation for 5pm through Open Table and arrived about 45 mins early so we could do a wine tasting before dinner. (I highly recommend it!) Our wine tasting lady Deadra was AMAZING she knew so much about the wine and really made the experience 10x better. She explained the wine club and all about the company and needless to say we left becoming members. My husband has a sweet tooth so he opted for the Sweet Tasting while I went for the Lux. All the wines we tasted were amazing and (honestly it was a big part of why we became members). My favorite from the Lux tasting was the Meritage and my hubbies from the Sweet was the Cranberry. An added perk for the Lux tasting (which did have a slight up-charge - but totally worth it) was the added bonus of a chocolate truffle to enjoy with the wine.) We then went on to the dinning room for dinner. With it being earlier the place was not too busy, but by the time we left it was packed. Our server Justin was good, but he didn't explain the wines or that since it was our first time we could try a sample of wine. (Luckily Deadra had told us about it and suggested I try the barrel reserve at dinner - so I knew to ask about the tasting.) The barrel reserve was delicious and if I had not ordered the wine pairing for the cheese plate I probably would have just gotten a glass of it. Food wise, we decided to try the cheese plate with the wine pairing to start and it was all delicious. My favorite had to be the berry and honeycomb cheeses with the accompanying wine. My husband loved the Ice Wine (he definitely has a sweet tooth.) The plate was good but there was not enough bread for all the cheese so we ended up having to use some of the pretzel bread. For entrees my husband went with the braised short rib risotto and I ordered the chicken Madeira. Both of them were delicious, but I have to say I liked my chicken the best. For drinks with dinner I finished off the wine pairing (I don't think I could have handled anything more) and my hubby tried the Cooper's Hawk - Hawk Ale which was great also. Sadly we didn't leave room for dessert but we plan to come back and try some next time. All in all it was a great experience. Service was great at the wine bar and good in the restaurant. Food came out promptly. The place definitely had a romantic vibe and I could see this as a great future date night place. We will be back especially now that we are wine club members. read more

Disappointed Birthday Experience at Cooper's Hawk It's taken me a week to put this review together because I truly wanted to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt. This was supposed to be a special night for my sister's 44th birthday, and I've gone back and forth on whether to even write this because I didn't want to relive the disappointment -- but I feel it's important to share. I made a reservation at Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant in Surprise, AZ for August 13th. My sister had wanted to try it after walking in a few months ago and finding it was fully booked, so I thought this would be the perfect surprise for her. The hosts were warm and professional -- they greeted us kindly and even wished my sister a Happy Birthday, which started the evening off on a positive note. We did have to wait a little while for a booth (even though I requested and confirmed one in advance), but we didn't mind since they handled it graciously. Unfortunately, our dining experience went downhill from there. I lost the receipt but I believe our server's name was Elizabeth, and we were seated at table 332 near the bar area. She never acknowledged my sister's birthday and seemed hesitant about letting us try the complimentary wine tastings. When we found a wine we liked and requested a bottle to enjoy with dinner, instead of bringing it out, she immediately shifted into pitching the wine club. We signed up -- but then the bottle of wine we wanted never arrived. My sister's meal was served cold, and when we asked again about the wine, we were told she "wasn't allowed" to bring it to the table. This turned out to be untrue, as we watched another server bring a bottle of wine to the couple seated behind us. By this point, the evening felt more about signing us up for a membership than celebrating my sister's birthday. We were never offered dessert or anything special for her birthday, and the whole experience fell flat. It was disappointing because this was meant to be a fun, memorable night for her. On the way home, my sister even said we probably should have just gone for sushi -- which broke my heart since I wanted this to be special for her. The one positive note at the end of the night came from the woman behind the wine bar. She took the time to explain the wine club clearly and assured us we could come back anytime to pick up our bottle. Her professionalism and kindness were appreciated. Overall, while I wanted to love this place, the service left us very underwhelmed -- especially for a birthday celebration. I'm not sure yet if we'll keep our membership or give Cooper's Hawk another try. read more

Excellent good! The Italian sausage flatbread pizza is soooo good. Service is excellent. Atmosphere very relaxing. The wine tasting area is completely full. Very nice experience read more

Everything always goes well here! Great food, great drinks, great service and always an atmosphere you are going to enjoy soaking up!

We have had dinner there 7 times in the last year. All of our meals have been very good. Wait staff can sometimes be hard to find.

Food was very good. Love their brussel sprouts appetizer, but service on a Tues night was very very slow and patio location we picked had exceptionally loud from traffic. Strange enough the "to go" black plastic bags are most unappealing --similar to ones i use when walking my dog "to go." I hope next time service will be beyyrrĥy5650-451-2464 þ³ I read more

The wine club pressure has to stop. We look forward to eating the food and we enjoy the ambience but the wine club pressure is unnecessary. We have been wine club members for a couple years yet every time we have come in recently the only thing the server talks about is the wine club. We're already members! We don't want to hear about it!!! In the past we have brought guests in and the servers pressure our guests to join - most of our friends don't drink they don't want to hear about it. All of these occurrences make us question coming in because it simply ruins our experience. Please just let us enjoy our food enjoy our time with guests. Managers - drop the pressure off the servers for wine clubs, it's oozing into the guest experience. read more

I wanted to share some feedback from our dinner visit tonight. Our waitress was wonderful and handled everything with kindness, and we truly appreciated her. There were two issues during the meal that I felt were important to mention. When the bread arrived, there was a hair in the butter. Our server apologized and replaced it right away. Later, one of the entrées at our table was served cold, and the kitchen remade it and comped that meal. What stood out to me was the difference in how the two situations were handled. Even though the bread and butter are complimentary, the issue still affected the dining experience, especially since it involved a sanitation concern. An apology was given, but no additional gesture was offered. read more

Place has quickly become my go to date night spot. Highly recommend reservations, download the app, make reservations, get a wine membership, show up early and make new friends at the tasting bar. Place is low lit for ambiance, you get a fine dining feel, fine dining consistency, but priced at a family restaurant. I have yet to get something I didn't enjoy and I have brought a few families with us and all also enjoyed and got a wine membership (referral bonus?) Overall, I will be back. read more

I can't figure this place out. I have now been here three times and the food and service is so good, and the pricing is so crazy low and affordable I don't understand how they can survive in the long run. So many incredible meals in the $20 to $30 range. 8 oz filet mignon for $46 that competes with the top steak houses in the state. Top shelf wines for $29!!! Travis and all the staff are professionals. Where and how did they gather this crew for this new restaurant?? Again, it's a mystery but I'm absolutely hooked. read more

The food was really good . I really like the space . It was nice and comfortable . The food was really delicious .

Busy place with a somewhat unique concept. You can stop in and taste and buy wine and/or eat pretty good food. There is a membership club that allows you to earn rewards. I don't know enough to comment further. The dining portion seems to be very busy and reservations are recommended. The service is very competent. We ordered the chicken pot stickers 5/5, beef short rib 4,5/5, chicken Picatta 3/5 (chicken overcooked), Caesar salad 4/5, and blackened bleu skirt steak salad 5/5. They have a full bar and good beer selections. The wines are the go to. They are good and reasonably priced. read more

My adventures in Phoenix food have been generally underwhelming. Beyond the amazing assortment of Mexican places, I've rarely been blown away by great food. Cooper's Hawk is the exception to that rule. The place was PACKED. It's loud, it's chaotic, the service is fine given how busy they are. All that aside, probably the best meal I've had in the Phoenix area. I had a simple blackened Mahi sandwich but I loved it. I'd go back just for that. Bites I had from everyone else were great. The birthday boy got a little treat, and the wine and drink options were good. One of my new favorite places in the city. read more

Well I still eat here. Lol it's always hit or miss if I'm getting what I paid for. I got the chief special "grill cheese with short rib on it ",that was recommended by the manager. I couldn't find hardly any meat. Another manager said she wants to take care of me, the lunch was on her and she would replace the sandwich. Well I got it to go and still got a bill for it. Oh well. Got home decided to look at the meat and I had a table spoon worth of meat. Much better than the last one. It's always an adventure coming back next week with friends. I just wonder if the cooks are trained on what is acceptable when they send food out. I'm sure the cook knew he had no meat on the sandwich and just didn't care ?? read more

Hubby and I have been here many times; left 5 star reviews 3 or 5 times. Sadly, our last three experiences were not on par with our prior 10+ visits. Ad of late, our food has taken a great deal of time to arrive and the quality was lacking every time. Today, hubby ordered his usual, pork chops. They were dry, skimped on the sauce and burnt the broccolini. My dish was lacking enough wasabi cream sauce and there were no little radishes on top. I'm a wine member - for $24.99, I receive 1 bottle of wine per month. I think I'm going to discontinue my membership; the value is just not there any longer. read more

Overall good service. The food was good, and the wine drink was phenomenal. Ambiance was a bit loud but good vibe

Leaning towards a wine bar, this new American restaurant is a shade below a white table cloth style restaurant with attentive service, higher quality well portion slightly fancy fare. We went during a Saturday night which was incredibly busy. The wine bar was packed, a common leisure stop for most diners collecting their monthly tasting if they are members, along with tasked to select their bottle or two or three or four per the membership. It was difficult to get a spot and due to how crowded it was, a bit stuffy. The wine? Mediocre, my guess is appealing to the broadest of audiences. Food was good. Get there early as they run out of the more popular fare such as the chicken Parmesan and the crème brûlée. We did have a tasty feta dip and fried Brussel sprout as appetizer. I picked the sirloin wedge, a tasty Italian/blue cheese dressing. Enjoyable. Would I join the club? Not for me. Would I return? Food was good. read more

First time visiting. We walked in and were impressed from the start. We're not wine drinkers but the wine bar and tasting area was pretty cool. We then sat in the bar while we waited for our table. Our bartender greeted us right away and was super friendly. I'm horrible at names... We each had a drink and shared the prime rib sliders. Wow they were amazing! Then we sat at our table and it just continued to be fantastic. The server, the food, the atmosphere... Amazing. We had the calamari appetizer and shared the Valentine's Day surf and turf. Delicious. We'll definitely be back. I'll be honest, I was expecting a super pricey place with ok food. Instead we had amazing food and drinks and I thought what we paid was worth it. read more

After being a loyal, long-time regular at Cooper's Hawk and even considering it my go-to restaurant for a night out, my most recent visit, for my "birthday celebration", completely changed my view of the establishment. I had arrived expecting the same high-quality experience I've enjoyed in the past -- great food, attentive service, and a comfortable atmosphere. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of those expectations. From the start, the evening was off to a rocky beginning. A diner at the adjacent table was extremely loud and screeching, making it impossible to enjoy the environment. When I asked for a different table, the only option provided was another table directly next to the same disruptive group. Fortunately, they left shortly after, but the lack of a reasonable seating alternative was disappointing. Service only declined from there. After ordering drinks -- and then our entrées -- we waited over 25 minutes just to receive the drinks. During that time, I spoke with a manager who assured us the entrées were already being prepared... yet still, no drinks arrived. When they finally did, I decided it was best to end the experience early and asked for the check, which I paid. Our server made it obvious she was unhappy with this decision and clearly expressed her displeasure. I can admit my own response wasn't the friendliest at that point, but the frustration was understandable given how the evening had gone. I paid the bill and informed the hostess of the issues on my way out, thinking the situation was over. However, as I pulled out of the parking lot, I received a phone call from "a manager" -- who refused to give his name -- telling me I was not welcome back at the restaurant. If this is how Cooper's chooses to treat loyal patrons who simply expect basic service and respect, then I am more than happy to take my business elsewhere. There are plenty of other dining options in the area, and after this experience, I will certainly be choosing those instead. read more

My group of friends and I went here for my birthday a couple weeks ago. After hearing so many good things about Cooper's Hawk I was excited to finally check this place out. There aren't many options like it in this part of the west valley. One word to summarize my experience: underwhelming. Mainly, it was the food. Everything took a long time to come out. Granted it was busy and this wouldn't have been an issue if the food was fresh. But it wasn't. Everything was lukewarm like it had been sitting under a heat-lamp for a while before it came out. I got the Prime Churrasco Grilled Steak. The meat itself was decent but my fries and veggies were lackluster in both appearance and taste. It was disappointing for a $40 entree. The service was good. Not fantastic, but good. Our server was friendly and approachable, but could have been more attentive. Especially with the gap of time between taking our drink orders and returning with them. It was almost 20 minutes. The ambiance inside is nice. It has a more upscale vibe than your typical west valley chain. All-in-all, I may give this place a second chance in the future because who knows, maybe it was just a busy night for them; but based on my first experience I'm in no rush to go back just yet. read more

Wow. A home-run, out of the ballpark, top-notch restaurant. Who would have guessed that the West Valley would have a restaurant this good. I was beginning to think the best we could do was another Outback or Cheesecake Factory. But Cooper's Hawk is phenomenal. For starters, it's a wine bar, and I don't drink. Not a drop. Zilch. Nada. So I can't say much about the booze, but it seems wine is what put it on the map. So if you're a wine-o, it's another reason to come. I can't say enough about the good. You'll notice that, on the menu, certain items have a grey box around them. These are the "chef's recommendations." If you're not sure what to order, these really are the top selections. You cannot go wrong ordering one of those. The appetizers are inSANE. The lettuce wraps are the most tender and flavorful I e ever had. They make PF Chang look like McDonalds. They come with 3 sauces (a peanut sauce, sweet chili, and a cashew-cilantro) which are all an explosion of flavor. They're perfect. The list of amazing appetizers never stops and each one is better than the one before it. The Brussels sprouts are mind-blowing. Slightly sweet and smoky. Not even slightly bitter. Just delectable. The shrimp is to die for; every selection is amazing. The entrees will leave you breathless. The short ribs are straight from Heaven. I've not had a better version even in New York or Paris. Just blow-away. If you eat nothing else, order the short ribs. The Parmesan-encrusted chicken is tender, full of flavor, and a taste orgasm in every bite. The magi-mahi is excellent, and the risotto exemplary. For a real treat order any of the steaks. They are some of the best I've had. The shrimp is "meh" and the scallops are just ok. Not a ton of flavor. The burger is very average. Stick with the highlights. Service is good though inconsistent. One problem is this restaurant is PACKED every night, so service can be iffy. When it's good, it's great. When it's not, there are long waits, long periods between table visits, mixed up orders. But it's rare. The standard is quite excellent. We've had some excellent servers. Pro tip: sit in the bar for a calmer experience. The high 4-tops seem to be less crazy. This is a great place for a date or celebration. Reservation are critical. It's crowded and loud. But man, the food is excellent. We needed a place like this in the West Valley. Hallelujah. read more

Dined: 10/12/25... We had a party of 6 celebrating a birthday. We arrived 5 mins early for our 6:30p reservation. However, our table wasn't ready until 6:50p. Our server was below average (she didn't seem like she wanted to be there) and the time it took for the drinks and food was beyond slow. We'd go back to try other dishes and hope for a better server. read more

We love Cooper Hawk. We first came to know this product in N Scottsdale location. This location has the same delicious food. Consistent and well thought out menu. Something for even the pickiest eater. From the amazing starters, to the crispy salads. All menu items have delighted us on our repeated visits. Pot stickers and chicken egg rolls are must on every visit. Great happy hour. On this visit, we tried the Prime Rib dip and Gnocchi. Yummy. Filling. For the price point. The wines are tasty. They offer wine tastings, and it's packed. So I recommend you make a reservation. They're on Open Table. The service here has improved since the opening. Getting their groove on. Although, the bartenders here have always been solid on friendly and high level of service. We finished off our dining experience with a solid espresso martini. We prefer martinis over dessert. Though given the rest of the menu, I'm certain the desserts are delicious. Enjoy!! read more

We arrived a little after 5pm and had to park in the Costco lot as the winery/restaurant lot was full. Inside, the tasting bar was jammed pack with wine tasters and noise. It was a good thing we made reservations. After checking in, we waited a few minutes before getting a text that our table was ready. We were escorted to one of the dining rooms and sat at a table for four, just the two of us. The extra space was nice. My wife ordered a red wine flight of four wines. She enjoyed them and I sipped just a little as I was the driver today. CH makes nice wines. They are reasonably priced. We shared the Napa Chicken salad that was thick with lettuce and light on the many other ingredients. It was tasty but not the rich varied salad as stated on the menu. We also shared the Gnocchi with Roasted Butternut Squash. It was HEAVY with gnocchi which overwhelmed the salad. Too bad. Again, an unbalanced dish. The chocolate cake was tasty sweet with a lot of frosting. CH is a winery first and restaurant next. They do good job of making it all work, but need to add more finesse to the entrees. read more

This place is fairly new, but it's our first time trying it. And wow, what a find! Walked in around 4 pm and the bar was busy with wine tasting, lots of people enjoying the different wines that they have. A great variety, and all reasonably priced. I'm thinking ok, we're off to a good start here. But, I've found that good wineries do not necessarily translate to good restaurants, so I was still skeptical. We were intrigued by the variety, and they offered us two wine samples to try, and even snuck another to my wife who was intrigued with the rhubarb and blueberry wines. I tried the gerwertzinminer which was great, and ordered a glass of that. My wife went with the rhubarb and we also tried the house blend and Pinot gris. All very nice. For food, I just went with the basic spaghetti, but my wife tried the surf and turf, filet medallions and lobster, along with a cup of bisque. The food was just excellent, and the service was very good. The menu offers great seafood choices, which for us is a real find in the west Valley. We will definitely be back for the food, wine tasting, and good times that they offer. See you at the wine bar! read more
