First, how did I not know this was here. Secondly, everyone is so sweet and friendly. There's no food but you can bring your own. And the Mead OMG so good! I personally liked the Mexicali Coffee (8) and the Strawberry (5) and the Barrel one (10). They changed their menu about once a month so I'm excited to see what they have next I will be back read more

Really cool place to visit; loved the inside decor! It definitely felt like I was walking into a different dimension. I ordered a flight, and it was the perfect way to sample some of their meads. My favorite was the Dark Maiden, a blackberry mead. Laura was very kind and super friendly. read more

I happened to be in town from Vegas and I knew I wanted to go to 8-Bit Aleworks, but my husband is not a beer drinker. My cousin told me about this place next door and it was perfect!! My husband actually brews his own mead, so this was a dream for him! The mead itself is delicious and lovingly crafted. The staff really knows their stuff and you can hear their passion when they talk about their flavors. I believe the person working on Thursday night was Michael (so sorry if that's wrong) but they were so friendly and patient while explaining the difference between their meads. My personal favorite was You Remind Me of the Babe. Their selection of hibiscus flavors are very tasty, as well. They have options all the way from super duper sweet (the double honey) to extremely dry (blackberry, tastes like a delicious red wine). The games are a nice touch and I wish I lived closer so I could join them for their silent book club. This will definitely be a staple every time I come to visit. And maybe a few bottles to bring home. If you're into mead, DnD, pirates, dragons, etc.....you gotta check this place out. read more

This is such a fun and nerdy little spot! The decor is very D&D/books/video games inspired. It's a great place to meet up with friends to play games. We tried several meads in 4oz pours, which is the perfect amount to sample! One of the owners served us, and she was super friendly and informative. We'll be back soon! read more

This meadery is very unique in that the name and decor are inspired by a book series. They have a great supplier and use that honey to make some very good mead, some also very sweet. The guy working was great, friendly and loved answering our questions about the meadery, the process etc... If you haven't had mead before, great place to try it. If it's been awhile, great place to give mead a 2nd chance. read more

As a non beer drinker, Im always on the hunt for places to try any other type of drink. I had tried mead at a few meaderies, but none were even remotely close to home. I stumbled upon Scale and Feathers meadery when it popped up on my gps. When you arrive you might think you are not at the right place as they are located in a sort of industrial area. When you walk in, you find yourself in a small, cozy, Game of Thrones vibe, small salon. They have multiple flavors of mead and also bottles to go. We had a flight, so we could sample those who sounded interesting and then order a pour of our favorite. But be careful! Mead, although sweet, packs a punch! Everyone who works there are so nice and knowledgeable of their products! read more

This is such a cute little meadery! It's a bit hidden, but don't let that fool you, they are awesome and go all out with the nerdy decor and it would be the perfect place to host a game night or D&D session! The mead was also very tasty, especially the Feywild and Migrating Coconuts! read more

Once we walked in we were greeted by three very friendly people. Small tasting area but full of so much fun. They have board games and LOTS of decor to look at. We were in search of something nontraditional and stumbled upon this awesome little place. The Oatbreak Paladin and Dark Maiden were delicious. read more

Scale and Feather Meadery - Flight - Wine Tasting Room Near Me - Avondale, Arizona

Amazing time @scaleandfeathermead !!! Highly recommend this establishment for a Mead brew & fermentation tour, for a flight or two of Mead to taste, or simply to gather with friends!! The owners are here and give the tour as well as pour drinks at the bar. They are extremely passionate about their business and the art of Mead Making. They are introducing new flavors that are invented and tested in-house weekly! Food is not served here currently and you can bring in outside food to enjoy with your mead. Our son turned 21 and we called up and spoke to the owner who rearranged his schedule to give us a tour next day. Outstanding! He had so many Mead factoids I thought my head would explode. I love historical facts about how we arrive at a certain etymology in our culture. I know how "Honeymoon" came to be now, as well as many other honey wine histories. Come hear some honey wine stories while tasting the Nectar of the Gods. We discovered we loved the sweeter Meads but the drys were also delicious and sophisticated in flavor. We all want to return for a Blueberry Lemon Slushie next week! Yes, it will be epic can you imagine a fruity mead Slushie on a hot summer day? Thank you so much for the wonderful birthday night celebration for my son's 21st!!!!! ‍ This Meadery is fantasy-themed, which is very cool in itself, and adds to the Meadery tavern experience. This includes all of our favorites (D&D, LOTR, PB, Doctor Who, HP, GOT, Magic, Monty Python, etc....). read more

If you love Mead, or even want to give it a try, this is the place to go. Located in a warehouse district, the place is small scale with a medieval vibe. Bring your own food is encouraged, although snacks are sold there. Amber is very knowledgeable and helpful in choosing the perfect mead to enjoy. Or try the flight for a variety. Just amazing! Currently sitting with my open bottle of Frostwylde- I am in love! This mead is utterly delicious. Their other flavors are amazing too- Peachy Queen, Great Gathering, , Butterbrew, Blueberry on the Inside.... Yum!! The meadery itself is a medieval delight! Walking in is so moody and you feel transported to another world. They are so friendly and always have great tips on how best to serve your mead! Love Scale & Feather! read more

very tasty, the couple who owns the place are super kind. Had a couple of the meads, thisbe's veil was my personal favorite!

I've been coming here for years, not because I live close, but because I love the mead, service and atmosphere of this place! They don't serve food, but they have no problem with bringing your own or having food delivered. I drive across the valley from the East side frequently, it's worth every second of the 45m drive read more

I LOVE this place. The feel of the whole establishment is geeky and cozy. There are fantasy decorations everywhere, a stack of games to pick through and play, and absolutely delicious meads to enjoy. I am not a mead expert but if I was I would give this place a try. I was fortunate to visit this hole in the wall on its first day of business and I will say that I was not disappointed. The mead is amazing and I sampled their current pour list. The venue is cute, staff is awesome and has enough seating for larger parties to sample from their list of assorted meads. My favorite is the double honey at an abv11%. So be careful! I will be visiting frequently. read more

Scale and Feather Meadery - Pour list of all meads on Draft - Wine Tasting Room Near Me - Avondale, Arizona

Fantastic place. The mead is great. The place is perfect to have a DnD session. They let you bring food. They also enjoy showing off thier brewing area. Owners are great! Here is my personal taste scoring for thier meads. 2nd Edition- Stars Sweet and smooth. Nice fruity finish. Great overall simple mead flavor Enchanted Buckler Stars Smooth, Sweet. Nice coffee flavor from mid to end. Bountiful Luck Stars Bite of a honey dipped strawberry. Slowly grows on you by the 3rd taste. Dark Maiden Stars Very dry. Similar to a dry rosé. Not very sweet. Couldn't taste blackberry very well. Summer fey Stars Bites, smooths then bites again. Sweet and different from most meads I have ever tried. Definitely not what you would expect. Worth the adventure. Faerie fire ¾ Stars Sweet yet bitter. Rasberry blossoms quite well. Feywild Stars Starts smooth sweet then a gentle burn at the end. It lets you think you can keep drinking it without punishment but slowly burns more as you drink more. Alduin- The Black Dragon 5/5 Stars Lightly sweet and smokey. You can taste the hickory. Reminds you of sweet marinated meat, smoked in a smoker. The honey you can taste it has actually been smoked. They did not add liquid smoke. By far, my favorite. read more

This place has some great mead. Banshees breath is definitely make favorite. The vibe inside is very chill with cool decorations to fit the DnD theme. Great spot to play board games. The service is top notch and everyone is very nice. Recommend looking into their events, the murder mysteries and other events are very fun. read more

Best mead and atmosphere in Arizona! Great service, adventurous drinks, events, and great vibes.

First of all, the mead here is really very good. I prefer drier tasting spirits and the guy who helped us really listened to our preferences and helped us to choose meads based on this. The staff is very friendly and you can tell that they really care about their clientele and products. As far as the set up goes, the space is small, however, they did such a great job with the decor and the overall theme of the place. It is evident that there is pride and attention to every detail that is put into every aspect of their space and products. We really enjoyed the elder dragon mead, but they have so many wonderful flavors. I really can't recommend this place enough and I wish them much success with their business. read more

So my absolute only complaint is that this place is far away from me. You walk in and it feels like you've walked into the taverns your character enters during DnD. I was waiting for the bar tender to offer me a dungeon to crawl honestly. The atmosphere is perfect with a huge, impressive chandelier, long wood tables and some fantasy decor. The mead options are incredibly unique, and I say that as someone who has tried a lot of mead. More than that, they're all pretty tasty. Even better is they don't just focus on a specific style so they have a mix of dry styles and sweet styles. If you go you need to check out the labels on the bottles read more

Such a great little hidden gem. Between the 6 of us we tried all the flavors of mead that were available. We left with 4 bottles of mead excited to enjoy them with friends over thanksgiving dinner. From sweet to dry there are options for every palate. We will be back. read more

Awesome place to grab a drink! I was leery about mead because I'd never had it, and I'm not a huge fan of honey. The waitress was super kind and knowledgeable. She helped me pick a few drinks that tasted delicious. 10/10 I'd go back anytime! read more

Amazing little hole in the wall. Beautiful ambiance with a fantasy theme through out. You HAVE to check out the fun bathroom decor. I ordered a flight with my friend paid for it left and went to 8 bit next door then they came over and accused me of ordering 3 other drinks and not paying when all we got was one flight and embarrassed us at the brewery and their mead was not good I showed them my bank statement as well for proof and they continued to accuse us of not paying read more

This is located in an industrial park, same area and 8 Bit Aleworks (https://www.yelp.com/biz/8-bit-aleworks-avondale-2 .) It's totally worth a visit. It's a new mom and pop meadery that crafts in-house. Their meads are unique, varied and tasty. Well priced - a 2oz runs about $2 and you can taste all of them for about $18. They have larger sizes if you have a favorite. The saddest part for my visit was they didn't have bottles to go yet. Owners said they hope to have them available late summer 2019, so for now you must drink on-site. There is no food available, but I believe the owners are okay with you bringing food in with you. Mead, I find, is a bit of an acquired taste. I'd guess 90% of the population has never had it or their experience comes from a Renn Faire or bad bottle from a wine store. Good mead can range from honey sweet to very dry. Unlike wine or beer the flavors blend better or have a longer finish. The type of honey can alter the flavor, too. If you've not had mead, stop by and give this place a try. Ask questions on how to taste and how to appreciate it. Some descriptions will entice you and others may make you turn up your nose. I challenge you to try them all. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They take credit cards, too. Plenty of parking. No patio. read more

Absolutely love this place! Such an awesome spot to try some new drinks. Staff is super friendly and informative. We we can't wait for our favorite mead to come back. Dual welder is AMAZING!
