This is a hard one because of the people I know connected to this restaurant. I have many people who said "not great and way too expensive" so we had not gone to check it out but a friend invited us to trivia night. Hard for me to order as I wasn't very hungry so I went for an app but the appetizer options were ehhhh. I ordered the calamari but there were more legs (squigglys) than ringed calamari. So for someone who hates that part of the squid - it was a waste of $18.00. The marinara is also way too sweet. It tasted like tomato paste out of the can. Wouldn't order it again. They are super spendy and the menu is high end for a shopping center BUT..... it's gorgeous! They did an amazing job decorating and making it super sexy. The ambiance of this place is sophisticated and cozy, social but intimate, and modern! All staff that we came in contact with was kind and welcoming. The food was, to my surprise, very good and flavorful! I ordered the Salmon and Sprouts and my husband ordered the Shrimp Sacchette. We started with the calamari which were cooked to perfection and the sauces were......OMG......just delectable!! My only "complaint" with my food is there was too much burnt Brussels. I liked the crispy Brussels and the char added another needed flavor profile but it did become too much for me. The mashed potatoes that came with it were good as well. My husband's Shrimp Sacchette was the perfect amount of creamy and the shrimps were big! To finish we ordered the Berry Cheesecake and it was perfect! I'd also like to note that this place seriously has some of the CLEANEST utensils that I've ever seen from a restaurant!! The only reason I'm giving this review 4 stars is because of our waitress whose service could've been a little better. We waited 15-20 minutes before going to find someone so we can get our check because our waitress had not checked back with us. Other than this small thing, EVERYTHING was great! Before we dined we visited Rumor Has It and that was also nice. The bites in there are a bit pricey but I must say that the charcuterie board they have looks DELICIOUS! We decided to come back and try their brunch. There's several parking spots right in front of the store reserved for the restaurant. I ordered the prologue drink which was so pretty and delicious, but definitely on the sweeter side. I was between the grilled cheese or chilaquiles and the waitress recommended the grilled cheese, which was ok. Cost-wise it was cheaper than dinner, but overall still pricey for the area/location. The food and drinks were amazing, atmosphere and decor are gorgeous, but what really stood out was the holiday brunch experience. They went above and beyond. They had a Grinch who was actually hilarious and interacted with all the guests not just a quick drop by. They also had the kids write letters to Santa and send them off with return info. My kids later got letters back from the North Pole which blew their minds. I've honestly never seen a restaurant put that much thought and effort into something that goes beyond the time you're actually there. We left with full bellies happy kids and a new favorite spot. And the food was pretty great too! The first thing my husband said when he took a bite was "That's a damn good burger", which is high praise from him. My only complaint was that the tomato soup was a little too thick, almost like condensed soup that was still gloopy. But this meal was still closer to a 5 than a 4 overall. I really really wanted this to be a 5 star review because the ambiance is definitely 5 stars! We went with a group at 6pm on a Friday night. We were quickly seated in the outdoor seating area. Loved the vibe. The round tables were amazing and great music playing. Our waitress was Hannah and she was absolutely wonderful. However, our drinks took 20 minutes to get to the table EACH TIME, and our DDs (yay for non-drinkers) had to pay $4/each time for the lemonade in their Arnold Palmers(this is insane, we have nondrinkers who drink these all the time). The drink service from the bar alone made us rethink our choice. YIKES! We are all foodies and eat out regularly and are definitely willing to pay for great food, service and ambiance, so please know that! The ribeye was just ok, it came with a butter knife not a steak knife. He said it was OK. Two of us had the burrata with protein added. My salmon was delicious! However, there was no dressing, no salt and pepper, no balsamic on the salad it did have close to a head of roasted garlic!! I was starving so I ate it and kept dreaming of aomw sort of topping to add depth and some liquid to the very dry salad. See pictures (BTW we took the pictures before removing more garlic we found). Again great base and with a little tweak this would have been fabulous. The smash burger was just okay as well, decent for the cost. The other salmon was over cooked and under flavored as well. Throughout the dinner our drinks were very slow to come so it was a continuous rate for the establishment. We shared our love for the vibe but mediocre food with our friends as we all live in the neighborhood and were ecstatic for a new restaurant. This is the feedback eveeyone gave us as well. Food was ok, however they had added an ingredient not listed on the menu, which could have been detrimental to someone's health luckily we caught it. This place really confused me. On the outside it gives a little country vibe, inside is a bit of an upscale vibe. Go to the rest room and you go through another (yet quieter area with a single performer we had no idea was there nor were we offered seats there) that reminded me of a city hotel bar area. The restrooms, while clean, had the funkiest heart themed wall paper that didn't go with any of the other themes. Let's talk noise, wait I mean music. The music, while just at OSHA standards decible wise, was not conducive to speaking to others across the table. The music playing was basically clubbing music and in all honesty probably kept us from having dessert and another drink. The menu could be called eclectic or maybe even the kitchen is also confused. It has a dish like short rib with burrata then you see Shepard pie (that's a New England dish mom made with the weeks leftovers), two very different ends of the spectrum. We had the bacon app which was suppose to be caramelized but I think it was just a different kind of thick bacon with hot honey, cornbread was nothing like I've seen before it was corn cake. They must be using corn flour instead of corn meal. The bacon app and the cornbread left us unimpressed and sticky. No one in our party was thrilled with their meal and a few items even arrived cold. I will say service was good and our server was personable. Now I might go back and try a few items but the loud music would make me think twice. I really wanted to love Easter brunch at One Story this weekend, but unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. We arrived at 11:15 for an 11:00 AM Easter buffet start, and right away it was clear they were not prepared for the crowd. There simply wasn't enough food available, and most guests spent their time standing in long lines waiting for items to be restocked. Service was also behind from the start. It took at least 15 minutes just to receive water and utensils, and the staff seemed overwhelmed the entire time. Many items listed on the menu--including April specials (on April 5th!)--were unavailable. When food was available, much of it was subpar and often cold in the chafing dishes. Unfortunately, we didn't even get to try a lot of what was offered because it wasn't restocked properly. We ended up eating what felt like about $10 worth of waffles and eggs, along with basic drinks. To make matters worse, drinks we ordered never arrived, and we had to ask multiple times to have them removed from the bill after being there for about an hour and a half. The setting itself is beautiful, but that was the only highlight. Overall, the experience did not come close to justifying the $48 per person price tag. I truly wish it had been different. I came here with my girlfriend and my family and had a BLAST. We sat at the outside patio and the vibes were so cozy and fun. From the moment we walked in and being warmly treated by the friendly staff, to the delicious apps, as well as the fun drinks. We all ordered different drinks and foods and everyone loved everything. I am only giving this 2 stars because the server was good. We have heard about this place from a lot of people in the area, and the reviews were all the same it took forever. This held us from going there as we have children and the constant reviews were 100% correct it took over an hour and a half for French toast chicken tenders scrambled eggs and chilaquiles, and to make matters worse everything came out at separate times. Sure they did what was right and comped the meal, but we weren't looking for a free meal. The restaurant wasn't busy it was slow probably because people don't have 2 hours for food that should take 45 min at max. Based on your experience in lending money to restaurants, I am afraid that this restaurant will not survive if it otinues to operate as we experienced in our visit recently. Items that need immediate attention: 1. Volume and choice of music. The loud volume of the music makes it almost impossible to have any conversations in the bar area. When mentioning this to the wait staff, she acknowledged, and agreed, that the volume is mentioned by a number of customers and it has been passed on to management, but that there has been no change. It is unfortunate in the fact that the interior is unique and well designed with the open-air bar area and fixtures. 2. Menu - Higher than expected prices. Not what one would expect ago see at a restaurant situated in a busy shopping center with Ace Hardware on one side and a nail salon, Great Clips, PostNet, Pizza Hut carryout, Fry's groceries, etc. on the other side of the restaurant. 3. Manager - It is sad to say, but she is "out of her league" in being responsible for all of the challenges in operating a restaurant. We observed how she walked around and through the restaurant but did not engage with the employees or customers. It was interesting to note that as we were leaving the restaurant, we mentioned the issue regarding the excessive volume of the music. Her response was that she had discussed this issue with the owners, but they insisted that the music's volume was to remain the same. Interesting. 4. Owners - By the way, where were these owners who were not listening to the staff or management's report on the loud music? According to the restaurant's web site, the idea for this facility grew out of two couples brainstorming an idea of providing a social setting for patrons to reconnect. Curious as to what prior experience in the food industry do the couples have in successfully dealing with the many challenges that face this type of business that has an extremely high rate of failure as an industry? Not having a least one of the owners at the restaurant is a receipe for failure. One can see that a lot of $$$$$ has been spent with the design, fixtures, and layout of the restaurant which represent key pieces of the puzzle of a successful restaurant. I am afraid that this puzzle is missing the biggest piece of this puzzle......active, on-site, hands-on management. read more

The gravies, potatoes, and sauces had a noticeably watery texture rather than the creamy, well-emulsified consistency you'd expect from a proper béchamel or similar sauce. It came across as though excess water was used, which ultimately diluted the flavor and overall quality of the dishes. I come from a culinary background and enjoy trying new restaurants, so this was disappointing--especially given the price point. With higher-quality ingredients and more attention to technique, the food could truly match the ambiance and make the experience worth it. I am more than willing to pay Scottsdale prices in Scottsdale when the food and vibes are great, but this is a Buckeye restaurant that is obviously trying too hard. The menu is just annoying--again, they are trying way too hard to be kitchy and trendy with food that is weird and country-style. Food itself is also very hit or miss. Deviled egg appetizer is not good, neither is the fried chicken entree. Conversely, the burger and shrimp pasta were both nice. Drink prices are insane. Again, what I'd expect to pay downtown, not out in the sticks. Overall, won't be back -- we get a better experience, value and vibes driving to downtown PHX or scottsdale. read more
