My family and I eat out a lot! This is the first time that ALL OF US (5 ppl) have had food super hot and tasting amazing, at the same time! The service was great, and atmosphere was pleasant as well. Our waitress Chelsey was extremely accommodating and asked us before we asked her, if we needed anything. She has great intuition and was on top of refills, asked how everything tasted, and got us boxes quickly! So..... I guess I should already know if we get sat in a back room, we'll be forgotten. After sitting for a while with our salads, I decided to go in search of utensils for our entire table. Walked through the restaraunt with a stack and no one even asked if I needed help. Server never came to refills on our drinks. We got salmon, steak, and ribs. The salmon tasted like it was marinated in sugar or syrup, otherwise flavorless. Ribs were okay, but the BBQ sauce had no flavor, just more over sweetened sauce. The steak was supposed to be cooked medium. Maybe it was over cooked or a bad cut. I literally had use my upper body strength to saw through it. It did have a nice seasoning though. At the end of this the bill had an 18% gratuity automatically added. The service didn't even warrant a 10% tip. My family will definitely not be coming back here. read more

It's been a while since we've been here, but man, has it gone down hill. We were seated immediately, which is great, right? No... we waited 15 minutes for the waitress to show up. (My husband actually had to bring it to the attention of the hostess that we were still waiting). If we didn't have a gift card, we would've definitely walked out. When the waitress came to our table, she offered no apologies for the wait.. (neither did the hostess) She immediately took our drink order and swiftly left. (Um, hello, we were ready order, lol) when she arrived back, my water had a nasty lemon wedge in it. At this point, I'm ready to leave it again... but we don't, we stay. Again, no apologies. We finally order our food, and at this point, the waitress appears to be hating life. She seems very uncomfortable and doesn't no how to makes things right or the experience better. Now the food. My husbands steak was good, he enjoyed it. My chicken salad, unfortunately, was terrible. Overall, I honestly wish the experience was better. I had happy hour here. And it was actually pretty good. I tried the bacon wrapped shrimp, which is really sweet. We also tried the buffalo wings, nachos, and the crispy mushrooms. The buffalo wings and the shrimp come in a set of four. I would not recommend the nachos they weren't tasty and the chips didn't have the best flavor. But everything on the happy hour menu was relatively cheap. I did notice that the menu said at the very bottom, in the fine print that they request that you order a drink if you're ordering off the happy hour menu. I am not sure if that would be enforced, as I did order a drink. But I thought that seemed a bit odd. read more

We put in our name, were told it was a 15 minute wait. 25 minutes later I asked for an update and we were told we weren't on the list (by the person looking at the list). Then the other hostess, who was the one who took our name, told us we WERE on the list, they'd called our name several times, and it was our own fault we hadn't been seated. Note we had been standing about six feet from the hostess stand the entire time - our name was NEVER called. So they tell us they'll give us the next clean table. Then they seat another party. I have been coming here for the longest time but only on a Friday or Saturday because I love love love their clam chowder! Haven't had anything in town that has a comparable clam chowder. I rarely come here Anymore because it's too far from where i live and i usually work night shifts on fri/sat now. Anyways, i was dying and for some chowder and super hungry because i have been working ALL DAY!! So i had ordered to go, by the time i got here it was 10:20PM. Yes, i understand they close in 10 minutes that'a why i didn't dine in but take out. They didn't give me any utensils, no forks, no spoon, no napkins. My family and I visited the Clovis location last night (Fathers Day) at 8:15 pm. When we were first seated a server took our drink order and gave us menus. When the drinks arrived the server said she would be right back. After taking our order she then informed us that the Beans and Bread were gone, i asked her if there was something to replace them she rather rudely said no when they are gone we don't substitute them. (I thought Hmmm well that's not good, So basically too bad for us). I thought maybe dessert or something could have been offered, I was wrong. After getting our food at about 9:05 (a very long wait for a restaurant that was not crowded at that point). My wife had a Tri-Tip Sandwich that had tough meat and a very small bit of BBQ sauce (basically dry and tough). One of my sons had a Prime Rib that was cooked perfectly and was great. Son #2 had a Rib Eye that was OK, (a bit overcooked) and his Frys were limp and undercooked. I had the Whiskey Peppercorn that was supposed to be Medium but was Well Done and dry. (Not good, thank goodness for the tasty Peppercorn Sauce). It was late so we didn't want to complain at this point. Overall a VERY disappointing $150 dinner! I have since reached out to Cool hand Lukes and received an email that stated someone would be in touch. No one has attempted to do so. :( Very poor overall to say the best! read more

This place is a joke. Food coming out of the kitchen for carry out orders. Boxes were opened laid out on the counter several people walking by leaning over the counter. multiple employees actually touched the food. Checking to see if everything was in the bag and of course it wasn't so they go back to the kitchen get what was needed and go back and re-open the boxes I watched this go on for over 20 minutes. No gloves no mask talking Over the food I seen them touching other things and then actually touching the food which is very unsanitary. We went to Cool Hand Luke's last night for our friends birthday and had a terrible experience. It started with receiving a warm beer, and then continued with no bread or beans until an hour after we sat down. Never actually got the beans just bread but only because we asked the waiter for it. Our dinner took another 30 mins after that. Everyone at the table received their meals besides the one we were there for. It took another 40 minutes for his meal to return, so everyone was done by the time he finally got his food. We never received a refill on waters, etc. Overall just poor service and subpar food. Oh by the way whos idea was it to get rid of the clam chowder? So after our poor experience our waiter didn't offer a discount, compted meal or even an apology. I wont be returning. read more

I tried to go vegan. Didn't work. I fought with my conscience for weeks on this matter but finally my taste buds gave in and all those commercials! I suspect I am just another "robot" of the capitalistic-industrial nation to which I have been born into. Either that or it's genetic and I'm Texan. Excuses, excuses.... forgive me oh Father. But anyway.... So I decided to sneak into this place and have a steak. I should have just picked up a steak at the local Von's and baked me a tater. I paid over $40.00 (including tips) for one plate of food, (sure, it was a butt load of food and okay I will admit I liked it, it was good cowboy food.) but it wasn't worth paying that much for a steak, tater, beans, bread and a drink. I think they got me with the drink(s) too. Because there wasn't anything "special" about that either. I liked the service though. So I can't give them less than 4 stars for that. They were very fun and attentive. I bet if I went here with a few more people it would have been a cool place. But it was just boring and over priced. Much like any place where you eat alone. So why did I bother? Because folks, I like to go out and eat off other people's dishes. Next time I'll go with a few people and not play the "lonely diner Zelda" again. I may be angst ridden because I'm feeling guilty for eating said steak, however I did like the taste of the beans and well, on second thought the steak was really good. In fact, I ate the whole thing while I cried on the inside. I'm sorry poor bovine. But believe me when I say, you were greatly appreciated. Okay, 4 stars has to mean something. The food is good. Not sure why this place gets a bad rap, although in some ways, I can surely understand. I think the best way to state my review, is to coincide with Matthew C's recent review. Best Dining Secret -- There's no way in hell I would label this place as that, so I agree with Matthew. Best Appetizers -- There's no way in hell I would say this place has the best appetizers, all of which are 'standard fare' type items that you can find in most restaurants, meaning they are average. Best Family Restaurant -- I could see this, as there's a lot of families I do see here. Best though? Ehhhh...that really doesn't register with me -- don't really see that. Best in Clovis -- Well, Clovis is frustratingly very fucking small, especially if you think of the technical borders of this city, i.e. there's NOT MUCH at all going on in Clovis, especially restaurants to compare this too....so..... Best Dessert -- Well, the desserts on display DO look good, but I've never tried them. Best Service -- For me, service has never been an issue, nor has it ever been a 'highlight.' They get my food out to me in a reasonable amount of time, that's all I know. The fact that I've never 'thought' about the service could very well mean its good also, since people only start thinking about service when it's bad. Best Steak House -- Damn, #2? Now....that is certainly a stretch. If anything, as far as the limited amounts of "steak houses" in the Fresno / Clovis area, I can honestly see Cool Hand Luke's edging in the top 10, but #2? I don't get that. Best Worth the Wait -- Ehh......If Matthew C. is correct, and these are in fact actual categories that Cool Hand's is listed under, then I have to agree that Fresno Magazine must be on crack. To justify my 4 star rating. I come here for one thing, and that's the steak. It's not for the shitty appetizers... It's not for the average as hell sourdough rolls... It's not for the Western decor (fuck no)... It's not for the 'family atmosphere'.... It's not for even the side dishes WITH my steak... It's for the steak, period. Cool Hand Luke's surely doesn't serve the 'best' steak I've ever had, nor will they ever. But in terms of the price point and what you get, I am 9 out of 10 times very satisfied with my steak. Usually, I compare Cool Hand's directly with Tahoe Joe's since I feel that it is there direct competitor as far as the taste they try to emulate with the steaks. Tahoe has great steaks, although not the best and can be inconsistent. Luke's....however, is cheaper AND usually more consistent, in my book. And the ONLY steak(s) in which I'll ever order here is the rib eye (or on occasion the tri-tip). I love my rib eye 'charred rare,' and coming out on a sizzling plate -- they have never disappointed me. Again, for the years I've been coming here, I only stick to two steaks: Rib eye, and tri-tip, so that is all I can speak for here. Cool Hand Luke's is the steak house I think of when I want to go 'middle of the road,' you follow me? I know that when I come here, It won't cost me a 100 bucks for two people, but at the same time it's not gonna be a shitty steak you would find at a chain, like Outback or Sizzlers. And trust me, I've had some AMAZING steaks in my life, so I feel I can come from a place of credibility. Cool Hand Luke's is by far not the best steakhouse, but to me, it's pretty damn good. The only thing I'm not thrilled about, is the green beans side -- Tahoe Joe's version of this is much better. As far as I'm concerned however, the best steaks I've had are no where near Fresno / Clovis, but more so out of town. I keep trying to like this place, but after my last experience, I think I'm done trying. There are far better steaks around. My husband and I waited some 20 minutes 7pm mid-week for a table. Once seated, we noticed there were empty tables galore. Looked like they just didn't bring enough servers on for the night. Service this time was like our other experiences. Poor. We waited over 5 minutes before being greeted by our waiter who pushed the appetizer special while taking our drink orders. Our appetizer (artichoke hearts) came out quickly and my husband asked for rolls to go along with it. Both appetizer and rolls were warm and tasty. At the same time the appetizer was brought out, a small pot of beans was delivered. My husband had those and there was never an offer for more to go with our meals. We received our salads (very small and nothing special - lettuce and a few cucumber slices) - the pomegranate vinaigrette dressing was terrible - tasted like cheap salad dressing and I did not eat mine. My husband ordered chicken fried steak and I ordered a NY steak. His steak was good (it's hard to mess up chicken fried steak). Mine had a band of gristle running through it, although it was cooked as requested (a first here!). It just seemed easier to cut the gristle off and eat the rest without sending it back. I've bought better steaks at Walmart and cooked them on my stove. I'm giving them two stars because their iced tea is AMAZING. Unfortunately, that's not reason enough to go pay $50+ at a steakhouse for sub-par steak and consistently poor service. read more

I really love this place! Every time I have been here, perfect service and perfect steaks! Last time I was there, I ordered the 14 oz NY Steak and a baked potato. Way to much for me to eat but I even love taking the leftovers home and having them later. The servers have always been so patient, every time I eat here, I can never make up my mind because their are so many delicious options, I change my mind ever 2 minutes. INCONSISTENT AND DISAPPOINTING. Had dinner there last night w/ party of 7 for my friend's birthday. The host who greeted us was not friendly or welcoming, she seemed like she didn't really care (she must've been bored). And then we asked if they could store the birthday cake for us, but the host said per new policy last month, they charge a $10 cake fee. I asked them if we just kept the cake with us to eat after dinner at our table, would they still charge, they said as long as they don't touch the cake, they won't charge, so we hung onto our cake. We were seated and ordered timely, but the chicken pasta dish that two of my friends ordered after the waitress recommended it were not consistent; one had grilled chicken breast, and the other had boiled chicken breast, both were nasty and lacked flavor. I ordered the ranch steak and it was dry/chewy, the gravy for the garlic mashers was salty, and that was pretty much it on my plate. Both portions were NOT worth the $18.50 they charged me. Everything on my husband's trio BBQ plate was dry dry dry. The corn he got was also mushy and tasted like it had been frozen for a long time. For $23 and $18.50 dishes, the food was disappointing and looked like something you'd find at a cheap diner, not a steakhouse. Our friends orders were not that good either, with poor portions for a dish that costs $15. When we finished our meals, we asked our waitress for some dessert plates for our cake. She said there was a $10 cake fee JUST FOR EATING OUR OWN CAKE. We told her the hosts told us the $10 charge was for HOLDING our cake in the fridge, not eating it, but the waitress said no, there is a $10 charge for eating the cake. She apologized for the mix-up, but did nothing as far as customer service towards a group who were trying to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had to omit the cake and birthday song because we did not agree with being charged a ridiculous $10 cake fee after already paying nearly $200 for dinner. What kind of restaurant does this? For the prices they charge for their food, compared to other franchise steakhouses, the food was damn disappointing and inconsistent (a party of 2 and party of 7 gets served the same amount of beans and bread when four of us had meals that were supposed to come with those items), and the service was poor with the hosts and waitress. read more

I visited the Clovis location on a Thursday with a group of friends (8 of us in total). First I called the day before to see if we could make reservations but sadly they informed me that they did not take reservations. When we got to the restaurant at 7:00 it was semi busy so we were told we could sit in the patio or bar area. We chose to sit in the bar area since it was hot outside. We sat there a good 20 minutes before being greeted my our server, given a menu and had our drink orders taken. It took him 30 more minutes to come back with our drinks. When one of my friends asked if we could please have some bread the server stated "Yeah, once you order something." Excuse me? Talk about rude customer service...we would have ordered something 30 minutes ago had he come to our table. Once he took our order it took him another 20 minutes to bring us that bread we requested and he also brought beans. By this time we had already been there over an hour and were still waiting on our salads, soups and refills on our drinks, when I asked to speak to a manager. When the manager came out to speak with us, we informed him of the situation which he promptly got us refills and inquired with our server regarding our wait. I wish I could say that after speaking to the manager our service with better but sadly it did not. After an hour and fifteen minutes we finally got our appetizers and our main courses finally started to come out of the kitchen. Yet sadly it was one at a time and about ten minutes apart. When finally all of our party minus one had received our entries . When our server came up to her and stated "instead of thinking how long your food is taking I want you to think about what you are going to order for dessert for free." How nice, NOT!!! By the time her food came out we were are finished with our food. I understand being busy and having to serve others, yet I can not understand why he could not just come over to our table and inform us about what was going on. I would have been ok with him telling me "I'm so sorry, we are busy today but I am doing my best" or anything along those lines to make us feel that he cared that we had been waiting for our dinner for over an hour. The manager was no help and after giving us a refill on our drinks never came back to check on us. This had to be by far some of the worst customer service I have had. Yet I will say this the food was good, nothing to die for, but good. Once we all finally got our food we agreed that we were happy and really enjoyed it. Sadly the service was just so bad that we will NEVER go back to this restaurant. If you are anything like me and pay for service this is not the place for you. read more

1 star for friendly staff. -4 stars for everything else about this place. My family and I decided to eat here after I received a 50 dollar gift card from my Secret Santa at work. Since it was my brother's fiancee's birthday, we decided to celebrate with steaks at CHL's. Big mistake. The prices were good, but the food was poor. Meat was bland, overcooked, and forgettable. My steak tasted like it was from a cafeteria. Thank goodness they had steak sauce. That helped a little but not enough to redeem this place. The sour dough rolls were super sour and lukewarm. It came out with a side of bbq baked beans that were also lukewarm and bland. They didn't really go together so that was an odd beginning. Dinner salad was good though pretty typical. It was the tastiest part of my meal. The rice pilaf was ok. The ribs were eh. The service was really weird too. Our server was nice but unreliable. I ordered a glass of red wine that never came. My brother mentioned it was his fiancee's birthday at three different times, but our server didn't really acknowledge it or make any comment. Finally a different server brought her a sundae and unenthusiastically wished her a happy birthday. They did not sing Happy Birthday even though we heard them sing for two other tables. They didn't ask us if we wanted dessert so basically we sat and watched as she ate her sundae. As we were waiting for our bill, we witnessed the man at the table next to us get up and get his own place setting from the table next to him. As we were leaving, we saw the same guy getting up in the middle of his meal and heading to the bar to pick up his own drink. I cannot recommend this place. My name is James and I visited tonight with a friend. We had an over the top wonderful experience having dinner at Cool Hand Lukes tonight. The manager Wade was continually walking around and covering the entire restaurant as he greeted us and welcomed us as if we were family. The food was absolutely delicious And Wade even checked in on us after our meal to ensure everything was ok. Our waitress Leah was very persistent with making sure we had everything from beginning to end without having to ask for it. Normally my favorite place to go for steak as the portion is great for the low price. On my last visit, they seemed to be slipping somewhat in the quality. Although my Rib Eye was ok at "Char Rare", it could have been seasoned better. Spouse ordered the "Lite" version of Calamari and stated to server it was without flavor and rubbery. This steakhouse is one of the few in Clovis. Food is subpar at best. Even the higher end steaks seem to be just okay. The service is usually very friendly though and the bar has all day happy hour on apps and drinks. We've been here once before for a late night dessert. We tried the strawberry pizza and were not impressed. It had so much potential but it fell flat. But we decided to give their dinner menu a try anyway. The complimentary beans were good enough and the bread and garlic butter were also adequate. Our drinks were large and came very quickly. They were refilled quickly, too. Waitstaff were friendly and on point. Decoration and atmosphere is interesting and fun. I ordered the "Old West" Chicken salad and had them leave out the salami. Here is the description of the item from their website: Crisp romaine, chopped Fuji apples, salami, bleu cheese crumbles, avocado, tomatoes, caramelized walnuts, and sliced campfire chicken breast. With our creamy balsamic vinegar. There was no avocado OR tomatoes but I didn't notice that while eating. I ordered very quickly and only scanned the ingredients and was happy enough to see caramelized walnuts, apples and bleu cheese crumbles in one salad. The lettuce was mostly the ends of the lettuce heads (The crisper, less green portions, not the leaves) so they were a bit bitter and also I'm sure they didn't wash them properly because they tasted a little dirty. Whatever, I'll live. The dressing was nice I think and would have been a good accompaniment to the salad but the gigantic pieces of slightly burnt chicken threw it off. There was a bit too much "campfire" for me I guess. The chicken ended up with a bitter note and the chunky strips were difficult to incorporate with the rest of the salad without making a mess. The dish the salad came in didn't allow for much initial mixing without stuff flying everywhere. My fiance ordered a rib eye combo with coconut shrimp and garlic mashed potatoes. He also got a salad with house dressing. He didn't care for the salad. I tasted it and liked it; I thought perhaps there was too much lemon for him or something. I would have finished it but I already had ordered a salad for my entree. His rib eye was fine and cooked to his liking. It was a sizable portion, as well. But his mashed potatoes...they were really wonky. They tasted DIRTY. I'm not sure how this was accomplished unless the potatoes were boiled in dirty water? I don't know but those didn't get eaten. The coconut shrimp were over fried. They were obviously frozen and they arrived to our table plenty warm but definitely overcooked. The batter was a dark brown and was unpleasant to eat. They were large and plenty of them but he couldn't finish. At this point we're a little grumpy at the food and the waiter offers to get my fiance a replacement for his potatoes but he doesn't want anything. Later a manager comes to ask about our experience and we told him the above things, although I didn't mention too much about my salad as its really a matter of some small fixes. Perhaps I should have told him but fiance was rather annoyed about his food already. The manager insisted he give us a free dessert and brought us the Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding, telling us it was in a different class entirely from the strawberry pizza we didn't care for. It was gigantic! Four people could have finished it off. We finished a good portion of it and all of the ice cream (fiance loves ice cream). It is a very heavy dessert so be warned about that. It was decent and we may come in on some night in the future for this for a sweet snack. In the end, our bill was $50 for two of us and we didn't even order any alcoholic beverages! Also the dessert was on the house (normally would have been $6.50). My salad was $13 which would have been worth it if corrections are made. Fiance's meal was $28 and he could only stomach half of it. The price seems reasonable for all you get but not if you can't eat most of it. If everything had been decent then I'd recommend this place to friends. Overall not happy with the price. read more

The best prime rib I've had in a very long time! It was very tender and moist. I had the baked potato and salad for the sides and it was average for most restaurants. The service was great. While waiting in the bar area to be seated, the guy at the bar came out from behind the bar and asked me what I wanted. Service was fast and prompt. Will definitely come back here again! read more

Wow, more than we expected! Visiting from our of town and decided to try this place. The inside is really cool looking with neat decor. It was busy but they handled it smoothly. Service was excellent. The chicken fried steak was amazing as were the mashed potatoes. Rolls and beans before the meal were a nice touch! read more

I only ever go to Clovis to see my parents. And like most Clovisians, we usually go out to eat! My parents had a lot to say about this place so we gave it a go. Two salmons and two prime ribs... Mmmm... The service is great and the food was good. We went on a Saturday night so the wait was about 20-30 minutes but they definitely were pushing to get people out of the wait and into seats. Overall it's definitely worth a visit. We will for sure be back! read more
