Smart move on their part by sending the most adorable teenage boy with perfect puppy dog eyes to humbly hand us our bag as he kept saying how sorry he was. Who could be mad at him? Not me. We had ordered on their app as we were passing through the area and they were very busy so I get how a mix up could occur. The 5 stars happened because even though we sat for 20 minutes, our food did not. It was hot and it was fresh. Other places could take note of this and maybe step up their game a bit or A LOT.... I'm not saying any names but their initials being with Whataburger... Anyway, I digress. We both got the same thing. The double burger with chili, slaw, mustard, onions, and pickles. While not necessarily the best choice for a road trip lunch driving down the interstate, it's hard to be salty about something so delicious. Messy? Yes. But it was a glorious mess!! You gotta love a place that not only allows you to completely customize your food, but allows it for relatively no extra charge except on the big ticket items like bacon or extra cheese. And they don't skimp either... which again made for a messy drive but well worth the laundry I had to do as soon as our 7 hour drive was over. The two patties were perfectly done, the buns were fresh and they were very, very liberal with the included toppings. This thing was stacked with a wonderful, meaty chili, cool, crisp slaw, crunchy pickles, and rounded out with fresh onions that added a terrific contrast to the chili and slaw. And the toppings were spread through out the sandwich so that every bite delivered on flavor. They were also generous with the napkins, which is rare these days and very, very much appreciated. The fries were good although I'm not a big fan of the crinkle variety... that said, I do appreciate that you have the option in the app to get them extra crispy. That made for a much better experience. Though they're not my favorite type of fries, these were well cooked, soft on the inside without being mealy like most crinkles are; while having a nice crispy exterior. If I have to have crinkle cut fries, I'd prefer Dairi-O's. I also tried their tzatziki sauce because I love that as a dipping sauce for fries and it was pretty spot on. At first, when I saw it on the menu, my thought was, "what does a burger joint really know about tzatziki sauce?" Turns out, a lot. It was creamy, tangy, with just the right amount of fresh cucumber and dill. Over all, as far as I'm concerned, it's a solid fast food choice that feels less like fast food and more like eating a perfect burger from your backyard grill. We both enjoyed it very much and will be back.

So many places throw on one or two extra and call it a day, but this was a legit pickle situation. The crinkle-cut fries were seasoned and really good, the milkshake was decent, and the burger was solid overall. Nothing fancy, just classic fast-food comfort done well. For two double combos and a chocolate shake, it was $29 and some change, which felt pretty reasonable. I'd definitely grab it again if I'm in that area. Perfect post-disc golf fuel.

Wendy's - 6 PC. Spicy Chicken Nuggets

I keep going back, because I like the spicy nuggets and they have excellent in-app deals, but I am consistently disappointed each and every time. Literally -- e v e r y time. I have been around 5 times in the past month or 2, and every single time they have failed to complete my order in a timely fashion. I mobile order before leaving my house, and when I arrive 5-10 minutes later, they act absolutely flabbergasted that I am expecting food. They very clearly do not begin my food until after I arrive AND specifically ask for it, and even then they take forever. One time, I came several minutes after mobile ordering (plenty of time for them to heat up food for 1 person), and was then asked to park, despite there being no one behind me in the drive through. I waited for THIRTY MINUTES for nuggets and fries. I've also ordered through the drive through and similarly had to wait, so don't assume that this is some issue with the app alone. It's obviously just the staff at this location. And if you were thinking of giving them benefit of the doubt, let me be clear-- this Wendy's has been absolutely empty every time I go. They are not busy, they are not behind, they are not "trying their best." No one apologizes for the wait, no one speaks to me at all other than to say "pull forward" and "park over there." I do not come to fast food restaurants to be wooed, I do not care for small talk or need them to be overly enthusiastic. And yet, I am still blown away by how egregiously apathetic the employees I interact with are. If I were hiring for a job near here, I would specifically reject anyone who had Wendy's on their resume, just to be safe in case any of these kids were job hunting. That is how bad it is. They also regularly serve me cold/congealed food, and one time waited until after I paid for a $4 strawberry lemonade to tell me that they 1) didn't have any and 2) couldn't refund me. This location is clearly only afloat due to the convenient location off the highway and the general brand-trust people put in Wendy's. But unless they get new management and completely clean house, they don't stand a chance in the long run.

After ordering on the Wendy's app, I waited a couple of minutes and then went inside. The restaurant was clean with no trash on the floor and all the tables were clean. I did need to wait another couple more minutes but this gave me time to grab extra napkins. Back in the van and on the way, I started lunch. The fries were hot but underdone and over salted. The nuggets had cooled a little but were still warm and yes, spicy. The Junior Cheeseburger Deluxe was assembled properly with all the right ingredients and the cheese melted. Overall, just OK. I've had better Wendy's experiences lately. And I've had much, much worse. I'll continue to hit up Wendy's along the way with a low expectation. The inside was very clean and the staff was hard at work. We ordered off the kiosk and got to spend as much time as needed figuring out what we wanted to order. Our food was brought out by a very pleasant and polite young lady with orange in her hair. I'm sad I didn't catch her name as she was wonderful! My OJ was missing but she had no problem grabbing me one when asked! We tried a fry on the way home, and I'm glad we did. We have about a 15 min drive and the fries did not hold up hot and fresh. They were still good, but that first car fry was amazing! We'll definitely dine in or eat the fries in the car next visit! The burgers were phenomenal. They were full of flavor and the toppings complemented them nicely! They were nice and hot when we got home as well! Only downside was the missing sauces in our bag. Not a deal breaker and I should have checked before we left, but it's okay! We have ketchup at home and I hadn't yet decided how to use my ranch! As before, I give this a resounding 5 stars. The menu has changed a little bit since I last wrote a review, and I've tried some new items. I have yet to try anything that I didn't like. My new go-tos are the raging chicken salad on a croissant and the berries and cream pastries. If you read my previous review, you will see that I was working up the nerve to try the chicken salad, because I'm somewhat meat-averse at times, and also don't like heavily mayonnaised foods, which is a big risk with any of the so-called "salad" items (potato, chicken, tuna, etc.) in life. I can now confirm that the chicken salad is 1) not overly mayonnaised and 2) made from not-gross chicken (I have no further explanation for this, but picky eaters will know what I mean). It's relatively light, has a nice texture, and is flavorful. It is one of my favorite weekend lunch items (or weekday, if I'm working remotely and in the area) now, not just here but in general. The berries and cream pastry is delicious and I would eat everyday, or even multiple times a day, if my figure and my wallet could afford it. Sweet, rich, flaky. Definitely one of my favorite dessert / sweet snack items currently. I also got a birthday cake made here and it was absolutely gorgeous (and delicious, obviously). Very well executed and totally got my vision. As I said before, there is plenty of seating inside (outside too!) and the volume level is perfect -- lots of people coming through, but quiet enough I can read, study, or do work. We spend several hours at a time in here some weekends. Highly recommend to anyone in the area or passing through.

Pantry Fried Chicken - Side of okra w/fish fillet

After much hype and inquiring with a friend, we decided to try Pantry Fried Chicken, a.k.a. "gas station chicken", selecting a location closest to our house. We opted to order a la carte items, which saved us almost $10 (essentially eliminating drinks). Our meal consisted of chicken tenders, boneless chicken wings, fish fillet, large side of wedges, side of coleslaw, and fried okra. Soft rolls were a bonus! The breading on chicken is crunchy & tasty and comes with an array of sauce selections. The large size wedges could feed an army (at least 4-6 ppl). Potatoes were crunchy on outside (coated?) and soft & tender like a baked potato on the inside (our favorite). The okra was chewy. Now, I'm not sure how to rectify this issue as it had been sitting in a closed container, possibly trapping moisture (maybe wax paper bags?) ‍ Unfortunately , the fish was included in okra container (problem for those who don't like their food touching, but we didn't mind), and fish seemed a bit undercooked, hard to cut, a bit chewy/fishy for my liking. Not sure what type of fish they used, but I do prefer mine cooked a bit more (maybe they accommodate this request?). The coleslaw was tangy (I could definitely identify the horseradish!). All in all portion sizes are plentiful and they provide good value for the money. Everything cooked appears to be deep fried and nothing really stood out besides salt/pepper as seasoning and the potato wedges. You do get good portion sizes and value for the money. Add-ons also seem reasonable. We ordered via app (they have a rewards program) which provided follow-up texts regarding pick-up instructions and thanking us for our order/visit again. You can additional items (per piece price) to a la carte items. Again, this is located at a gas station in a strip mall near Scientific. The ambiance is storefront carryout with lots of parking lot traffic (so be aware). Not sure if dine-in options are offered (aside from your car interior). Recommend checking them out--even if it's once--and form your own opinions. (I was raised on broasted chicken/potatoes, so I may be a bit biased.)
