Normally I don't go back and update my positive reviews, but because I've eaten at the Chat and Chew a disproportionate number of times compared to everything else I've reviewed lately, I felt a 1 year (well, 8 months) revisit might be warranted. As before, I give this a resounding 5 stars. The menu has changed a little bit since I last wrote a review, and I've tried some new items. I have yet to try anything that I didn't like. My new go-tos are the raging chicken salad on a croissant and the berries and cream pastries. If you read my previous review, you will see that I was working up the nerve to try the chicken salad, because I'm somewhat meat-averse at times, and also don't like heavily mayonnaised foods, which is a big risk with any of the so-called "salad" items (potato, chicken, tuna, etc.) in life. I can now confirm that the chicken salad is 1) not overly mayonnaised and 2) made from not-gross chicken (I have no further explanation for this, but picky eaters will know what I mean). It's relatively light, has a nice texture, and is flavorful. It is one of my favorite weekend lunch items (or weekday, if I'm working remotely and in the area) now, not just here but in general. The berries and cream pastry is delicious and I would eat everyday, or even multiple times a day, if my figure and my wallet could afford it. Sweet, rich, flaky. Definitely one of my favorite dessert / sweet snack items currently. I also got a birthday cake made here and it was absolutely gorgeous (and delicious, obviously). Very well executed and totally got my vision. As I said before, there is plenty of seating inside (outside too!) and the volume level is perfect -- lots of people coming through, but quiet enough I can read, study, or do work. We spend several hours at a time in here some weekends. Highly recommend to anyone in the area or passing through. read more

We grabbed a scone and Dubai chocolate cake slice on our visit and they were to die for! The scone was delicious, but the cake "took the cake" on this visit. The cake was perfectly moist and the overall flavor was amazing. We will 10000% be coming back! read more

I love Chat and Chew Cafe! This time I tried a few of their seasonal Lotus drinks. The Scrooge was very sweet but delicious. I also loved the Mistletoe Kiss drink, and was happy that the green apple flavor was not too overpowering. I also got an Asiago bagel with their bacon and chive cream cheese. This was absolutely fantastic and I will be getting it again. The service is always wonderful, but the wait can be a little long if it there are a lot of people. I never mind this because the food and drinks are that great! I usually get my items and go but this time I decided to stay and do some work which I notice others do quite a bit. It is quiet enough to do work but has a good level of background noise so you don't feel awkward. Overall, I love coming here and will be continuing to do so! read more

Pooped in this spot to work remotely for a few hours while in the area and so happy I did! I chatted with the waiter for recommendations and ended up getting a delicious sausage, egg and cheese bagel. The environment was inviting, with ample comfy seating and tables big enough to spread out. WiFi was easy and reliable and the noise level in the building was low. I finally made it to The Chat and Chew and I'm so glad I did! The chicken salad was delicious. The croissant had the right texture and bounce, and buttery. The lemonade was not too sweet and not too tart. The staff is so welcoming and inviting and willing to answer any of your questions. I love the ambiance, it's welcoming, cozy, and you feel right at home. The decor and layout is perfect. You can come for a quick bite, work, or meet your friends here to "chat and chew". What a great place! The Chat and Chew Cafe has lots of glowing reviews over time, I just have never had the occasion to visit. But I happened to have met someone in the area for what was a bit of a salty lunch that left me feeling a little drained, so not only was I in the mood for a sweet thing but also a coffee! Busting out my trusty Yelp app, I had a list of places to do just that in mere moments. Here you'll find a variety of offerings. Want to coffee and chill? They have that as a focus, with seating suiting anything from a meeting with computers out, to easy chairs and couches for casual chats. The coffee menu is standard for your average coffee shop these days, and does include seasonal specials. My mocha was perfect, nice chocolate flavor contrasting with the espresso, just enough milk, not too sweet. Along with that, they are a full service bakery. I saw people popping in, or calling, about cake orders for a few events while there. They were busy baking back in the kitchen, you could smell it. I opted for a piece of butterfinger cake, and it was lovely. Again, not overwhelmingly sweet. Chunks of butterfinger candy, a nice whipped icing that struck a balance between thick buttercream and something too light. Moist and flavorful cake. Yum. They also have a space to get yourself some ice cream if you're feeling that, as well as a section of just curiosities and crafty items/decor. They also host classes in the back from sewing to baking and cake decorating. All told, very friendly service, relaxed vibe, lots of selection and things to look at. I enjoyed it! read more

I came for an event to try the flights and decided to have a full on lunch date with the hubbie. He got the ragin chicken croissant (which I didn't grab a picture of) and I got the Hot Honey Goat Cheese flatbread, which was absolutely delicious! Went in for the first time today due to the close distance from my work and the great reviews. I was a bit skeptical when I pulled up outside of the establishment but when I went in I was literally pleasantly surprised!! This coffee shop is fairly big, has a large variety of options and customization for food and coffee, they have something for everyone! I am NOT a coffee drinker but sometimes I need a pick me up and I don't like a strong coffee taste. I got a white chocolate mocha with almond milk and it was so good! I can say however if you like black coffee you can just tell them the measurements of exactly what you want and they will make it. The ambiance is really nice and I love their chalkboard that describes how each drink is made, that's especially nice for me since I don't really like coffee. I am definitely going back, I might become a regular lol, that's how much I liked it and I read they get their bagels from New Garden Bagels which is another reason why I went. I'm giving it 4 stars but really feel like it deserves 3. The food is EXCELLENT. Homemade chicken salad is 5 star! The service however is horrid. Waited 20 minutes for a sandwich and latte flight and it wasn't busy at all! 5 workers that I could see but no one working together. After two meals delivered, we were notified they were out of chicken salad and that it would be 20 more minutes! Ended up being a total of 40 minutes for food. The next issue was the girl at the register writing everything in a notepad and then typing it into the tablet- was crazy how slow she was and inefficient! There has to be a better system than that and she still asked repeatedly to clarify order and it was nothing different than how it comes! Good grief, really love this place and the vibe inside. Even the latte combos are extensive and delicious- we wanted to order more to go but couldn't deal with the pain of waiting again and she had a line of three people for at least 10 minutes so we just left. Stopped in to check out The Chat & Chew cafe & was pleasantly surprised with everything they had to offer! One side is full of trinkets and handmade goods by local artists and the other side is the cafe/coffee bar! The store was set up for Christmas during my visit and they had pre-made gift basket options as well as the option to create your own basket. There was plenty to choose from for a great gift for that last minute gift. I elected to get a medium Chai Tea Latte and it did not disappoint - all the flavors came thru unlike bigger chain coffee shops Carolyn took her time making my drink and at the last minute I decided to get a biscotti to go along with my latte - they had two choices and I let her decide because I couldn't! In case you need to know, Archdale is the halfway point between Ballantyne (Charlotte) and Chapel Hill. During Covid, I figured this out because The Chat and Chew Cafe was our go-to point to meet my mom to exchange my kids so they got to spend time with her during the pandemic. Besides Archdale being a cute little Southern town and close to HighPoint University, The Chat and Chew is a locals and travelers gem. Kim and her girls are always happy to see customers. They have the best coffee and their cakes are out of this world! Boston Cream Pie cake is my personal favorite. They also serve savory dishes one of which is three different chicken salad choices. The Nutty Professor is so good. It is rare to find a cafe that reminisces the charm and food tastes of the past with the convenience and open daily hours of today.
