I loveeeee a milkshake from here. They're the super thicc milkshakes that you gotta eat with a spoon. I love getting mocha and oreo -- they don't advertise it, but you can totally mix flavors together like that. The chicken nuggets are good, similar to a Wendy's nug. I always order my fries with the cajun seasoning. Deducting points here because the service is usually awful. There is no Chick-Fil-A courtesy around here. I have always heard of Cook Out but they don't have this fast food restaurant Chain in my area of the USA. I tried the junior tray. I ordered the junior burger, the white cheddar bites and the quesadilla. The food was fast and hot! Cookout in Downtown Birmingham was really good. Restaurant was clean and service was good. If you're looking greasy, flavored, delicious burgers this is a great spot. They're menu is large and they have all the basic comfort foods like hotdogs, quesadillas, mozzarella sticks, fries, onion rings, chicken nuggets, corn dogs etc .. it reminds me of a Sonic restaurant on wheels. Horrible Experience! We ordered 3 sandwiches, hush puppies, and Cajun fries everything was WRONG. I ordered The Cajun style double burger with jalapeños which is supposed to have chili and slaw neither was present! My husband ordered a double with grilled onions and several other toppings as shown on the receipt. We received it with mustard and onions only. Not grilled onions but fresh onions. The Cajun fries...no Cajun seasoning. Only the hush puppies were correct. This is terrible. Don't waste your time! read more

I reviewed Cook Out Downtown last year on 04/28/2021. We live downtown walking distance from Cook Out. Since my review, Cook Out has gotten really bad. I want to be clear here, when you go to a high-end steakhouse, you have an expectation. When you go to a very inexpensive hamburger place it is a much different expectation. The Food: Has gone down hill. The Hamburgers have been the worst quality. The Shakes are never what you ask for. You get home and you are disappointed. The Service: This place does most of its business in the Drive Through. You order like at other fast-food places which means through a speaker. I have had wrong orders as indicated above so I clarify my order every time. Then I clarify it at the window. Three times, three wrong orders. Drive Through: The layout of the place does not allow for parking and getting back out because of the drive through line. Folks that park get angry at folks on the drive through. You can't move up or back to accommodate because you are boxed in. I am very sad to do this review. To have a fast-food place so close to where I live was a blessing. Consistently giving me, and charging for, the wrong size of sweet tea. The menu board at the drive thru list a LARGE and HUGE. I would like to have the large ( 20 oz) rather than the hugh (32 oz). If I order large, I'm given a huge. If I order a regular, I get a huge. If I order a small, I get a huge. If I say something, I'm told all the sweet teas are huge $2.99. If I ask for the large, they will give me the 20oz but not change the price. When I told them the board has large on it at $1.99, they just stare at me. Also, don't expect any sauces to be in the bag, or napkins, or straws, or even the right order. Always check before leaving the window. If something is missing, the staff will just look at you like you're crazy. IF they open the window, it may take a couple minutes to get a napkin. Check your sandwich before leaving the window. I usually order a regular hamburger with ketchup and onion. I've gotten a bunch of different combinations. Like the one the ticket was high but the sandwich was CHEESEBURGER with lettuce, mustard and pickle. Just learn to read. To be honest, the food is great. A couple times I've had overdone nuggets or o rings, but for the most part, it always taste great. Always busy in the drive thru and it moves slow. ( Probably everyone checking their orders at the window.) Seems to have a big turnover as well. read more

Cookout is a college student staple in many communities. When I first came to college, Cookout was the place to go for cheap but tasty dinners--not to mention that they also have amazing milkshakes. I typically get chicken strips and cheese curds, but I opted to try a hot dog this time. Since I went through the drive through, I am not able to judge the indoor ambiance of the restaurant. Reflecting on my past experiences, I remember the seating area to be clean and comfortable. The drive through was quick as always, and there was barely any wait. However, I would not necessarily recommend their plain hotdog. I would've tried their popular one, but I am not a big chili fan. The hot dog was decent, and it had some nice grill marks along it to give it that traditional-sunday-cook-out look. The hotdog overall was average, but I can't complain given it was less than $2. What a fantastic addition to the downtown Birmingham area. I have literally no complaints and lots of compliments. We drove through this location for our first trip to a Cook Out. I loved how friendly and positive they were while taking our order. After ordering a milkshake we got an enthusiastic, "Chocolate milkshake? Sounds delicious!" I love that. It was also so so so fast. I don't know how it was so fast. Faster than a McDonald's drive through and the food was hot hot hot and delicious. They are also open late which is fantastic! Their menu is extensive and everything we've tried has been delicious. We got a sampling of items and 10/10 favorites were the burgers (omg my favorite), fries, and onion rings. I also love the variety of sides available. You can get chicken nuggets or a corn dog as a side to your burger (as well as the other traditional options). I have been to this location of Cook Out many times and I always enjoy it. The food is always fresh and hot and the service is quick. I would like to see more sustainable packaging from here, as it is all styrofoam or plastic and I would also like to see an easier way to follow Covid restrictions if necessary. All in all, it was a great experience for a great price. I got a Cajun CHicken sandwich with cheddar cheese bites and I have to say it is a new favorite. We love this place. We don't eat a lot of fast food, but after a show at Avondale this has been our new go-to spot to eat! There is always a line for the drive thru, but it usually moves quickly and our order was perfect both times. The burgers tasted like they were actually cooked on a charcoal grill , very tasty. The experience however was a little bit disappointing. The seasoning wasn't the best tasting Cajun seasoning to me. The grilled onions were more of a success! The sides; I got the onion rings and hush puppies. I've NEVER been to any restaurant and ordered onion rings and then received 4!!! FOUR!!! FOUR ONION RINGS BEFORE!!! They weren't even all that great as far as taste and preparedness! The hush puppies; I received 4 hush puppies......they were the weirdest looking as far as shape hush puppies I think I've ever seen. The taste was okay....a little on the dry side and small as well. The burger was small, the onion rings were scarce and the the hush puppies were as well. I went to this location yesterday and ordered a plain hot dog with ketchup and mustard. I am not a big of hot dogs, I normally only eat them when I go to a barbecue. This hot dog was okay while eating it but I felt uneasy and didn't finish it. I ordered from the drive-through so I didn't get a dine-in experience this time. I went to Cook Out and got a Jr. Tray with a hot dog, chicken nuggets, and fries. Cook Out is one of those restaurants where no matter when you go, the service is about the same. It could be a Monday night or a Saturday morning, and the drive-thru line is still moving at the same slow pace. I had never had the hot dog before, and it was solid although underwhelming. My fries were also undercooked so that didn't add to the experience much. I understand the hype about Cook Out since it is so cheap, but I can't say that the food has always impressed me.
