Not bad--frankly I expected less from what used to be the Comfort Inn. I went here a little cautiously after a recommendation from a friend. It's quite the transformation from what it used to be and a little hard to believe that the Comfort Inn secretly harbored all this space on the ground floor. I think they're still finding their footing because some of our orders were a little hit or miss, but overall a high quality establishment. I came here with 5 other friends for dinner. We were impressed with the décor and ambiance, but underwhelmed with the food. At first, it seemed like there were some great options - veggies, apps, mains, pizzas, etc. However, some of the items were not what we expected, and the portions were off. The tabouleh did not taste like traditional tabouleh (which was unfortunate for my friend, but overall it didn't taste BAD). My one friend found that the flatbread pizza toppings kept falling off and since it was served on a plank, the toppings fell onto the table. Another friend ordered the "Jerusalem Artichokes" which we did not know were so vastly different from the usual artichokes we get (they're more like tubers, and my friend ordered the sweet potatoes so overall her meal was very tuber-y). And finally two of the pastas were a good portion, whereas the butternut squash pasta was tiiiiiiny. Personally, I found the ambiance nice, the drinks overpriced, and the lamb pizza was yummy. I may not come here again but if someone asked me for a recommendation for a nice middle eastern dinner (and I knew they had the money), I'd recommend this place. read more

I ate here the other night and it was delicious. The Cornish hen was amazing. It's like a modern high end New York cuisine with arabic fusion. The gnocchi is amazing also. The flat bread is good. The waiters are very kind and patient and helped explained the menu. I came again for breakfast. I ordered eggs over easy, they came back over medium. They were also too salty. Interesting fusion cuisine with Italian and Middle Eastern dishes. We were a group of 4 and were too lazy to pick our own food (the menu is very extensive) so we went with the $65 family style sharing menu. The best dish was the pear and walnut pizza. I also really liked the grilled halloumi on panella. The gnocchi was good. Lamb ribs were very unique - I've never had lamb like that before (served with a molasses sauce). The nougat dessert is so beautiful and unique. While I normally gravitate towards decadent chocolate desserts, this was really special and I loved it. Good, but probably wouldn't order again: mezze plates with flatbread, swiss chard fritters, spiced carrots. I would go back to this restaurant. I'd like to try their other dishes not included in the family style menu, such as the rabbit papperdelle and wagyu. Other non-food remarks: this restaurant is surprisingly big and busy, decor is beautiful. The service was very good. The cocktails are interesting but pricey ($17 ish). The whole meal with the family style for 4 people, 1 bottle of wine, and 4 cocktails came to about $460. read more

This place may be my new favourite place for pasta in the city. I ordered the pappardelle, split the roasted sweet potatoes and tried a bite of the cavatelli. I loved every bite and intend to go back again - maybe to try the other dishes on offer, but really to devour another plate of that rich, flavourful pappardelle. Beautiful decor, artistic space but I only wish the food and service were better. Food was not bad, everything was freshly prepared I guess that's why it was taking so long. We sat down for like 15 mins and no one came and ask us if we want something to drink or take our order. The apps came and they took it away as soon as we finished but the mains took forever!!! The lamb kebab was good, the veggie app/plate was good too-other than that I don't remember anything special about dinner. The cod was ok-had higher expectation than this. Overall, not a bad experience but not the best as well. Service was polite if they were there. Sunday they have half price on wine bottles which was nice. read more

I stayed at the adjoining hotel (Anndore House) and ended up eating here quite often. The reason? It offered amazing and creative Mediterranean/Middle Eastern inspired food plus it had a fantastic outdoor terrace. My only regret was missing out on the Sunday drag brunch which looked like a blast. I have only one gripe: when someone asks for a bottle of sparkling water, don't bring out a glass of housemade water and try to charge for it. The waiter should have explained that they didn't serve bottled water, not to mention--housemade water should always be complimentary. Recoup the money for the carbon filter in another way. read more

I've started coming here quite often given how close it is to both my home and my work. Overall the food is really amazing. I find myself often eating the Lamb Burger or the pasta, but they have a lot of great dishes. The decor and hotel are boutique and high end. The patio is a great space given the lack of options in the area. Finally, the staff are very friendly and service is really good. Also check out the breakfast. The pancakes are out of this world. The meal was served family style. We got: - 3 salads - dip trio and naan bread - chicken liver mousse on crostini - Cornish hen/ sea bass, potato wedges and veggies - 2 shareable desserts Again there was nothing wrong with the quality of the food; protein portions were a bit small for 3 people and the whole meal overall just kind of felt like a rip off for what we got. Our Family dinner at Constantine celebrating a birthday could not have been more delightful. The service was over the top friendly and helpful but not forced, they are genuine people. The food was amazing, the grilled octopus was the best we ever had, tender and tasty. The vegetables were just delicious, strongly recommend the roasted sweet potatoes, Jerusalem Artichokes as well as the romesco broccolini. Had high hopes for Constantine - thought it was pretty disappointing. The interior of the restaurant is pleasant, although it felt a little cramped when we were placed in the corner. We ordered the tasting menu, which is supposed to be a sample of their best dishes. It was really disappointing to see that the BOH/FOH didn't execute the concept of a tasting menu properly. The food would arrive at random intervals would absolutely no appropriate pace. My friend and I were eating as fast as we could - there were times that the table was so full of existing + new dishes that we had to dump some food from dishes onto our plates. Some of the dishes were really good, others didn't work at all with the overall tasting menu. I could barely remember what we were eating because they would serve a new dish too quickly. We paid quite a bit for the tasting menu and felt disappointed. Definitely not worth the value. read more

Tuck in the south east corner of Yonge and Charles, the restaurant looks a lot better inside than outside. It has chic but still comfortable vibe. The service was great and so was the food. Friend and I ordered burrata, chicken liver, lamb rib, duck kofte, broccolini, and one dessert that had lebneh, coffee, white chocolateand figs (forgot the name). All of them tasted really good and the presentation was really nice as well. My favourite was duck kofte which had pine nuts inside and my friend's favourite was chicken liver on crostini. That one has nice sweetness from bacon jam and creamy like cream cheese. Definitely not a typical pate you would exect. We were not crazy about portion sizes but you almost never expect huge portion when going to nice restaurants so nothing to complain about. Constantine stands out with its unique for Toronto décor and rather large dining area but I wish that the owners had invested equally in the food quality and the service. Flatbread with hummus was so good that we ordered a second one, and would have ordered a third one if we didn't have a steak on its way. For our main course we had their hanger steak. It was mediocre, too hard to chew. Keep in mind, this place has no steak knives, so you have to use a regular butter knife if you wish to cut it. Kale salad and potatoes on the side were okay, but again nothing too special. Service quality was average. They have a huge menu for wines, but when I asked the waiter if they have anything sweet to offer, she replied that everything on the wine menu is dry, which in my opinion just sounds odd. Have one person on the floor who knows his wines, and who can come around and give advice, how difficult can it be. Reserved our table for 5:30 but the host made it sound like the same table is also reserved for other guests at 7, so the entire dining experience was very rushed. Two waiters started cleaning our table at 6:40 when we still had food in our plates. Did not see anyone who looked like a manager, and a lot of the service issues could easily be avoided if there was one. Washrooms had soaps from Aēsop, which was nice, but once again, instead of buying $40 soaps, you should try harder to make the food experience better. Really stylish and interesting ambience. We were excited to grab a drink during happy hour since we were staying at the affiliated hotel, but honestly it didn't leave a great impression. I stood around waiting for any staff member to even look my way, but was ignored for long enough that I just made my way to a dirty table. After a hostess bussed the table and got us menus, we had some of the happy hour specials which were really good (Paper Planes, yum). It pains me to write this review because my initial visit when it first opened was pretty decent. The service needed work but that's pretty standard for a new restaurant. The second visit had great service but the food has gone down hill considerably. I would have complained directly to the server but we were hosting guests from out of town and didn't want to be "those people". The chicken liver mousse is always a winner and we should have just ordered several helpings. The cauliflower dish was half cauliflower and half broccoli and was more steamed than roasted. The pork chop was well seasoned but cooked well well done which means it was dry as a piece of stale toast. The lamb kabab was also tragically over cooked. All in all very poor execution of the dishes and I will not be giving this spot a third visit. read more

My boyfriend took me here for lunch on December 31st. We were hoping for one good last meal for 2018 and wow did they ever live up to that! My boyfriend got a glass of wine and ordered the steak with a side of potatoe fries. I got a cider and the cavatelli "alla milanes" aka saffron cavatelli pasta with braised beef ribs. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The decor was simple and elegant with grey napkins and white vases lining the shelves. The open kitchen was a cool concept, especially if you love smelling great food. The food came and despite the kitchen being busy prepping for their New Years party everything we got was incredibly delicious. This was hands down the best pasta I've had so far. The noodles were cooked to the perfect texture and the braised beef was incredibly flavourful. There was more than enough braised beef to eat it both with the noodles and without. This restaurant is quite pricey, over $100 for lunch but is worth every penny. Delicious food, great service and simple but elegant decor make this a great spot for a special occasion or just treating yourself and/or your loved one. read more

I liked the additional toppings they added to the avocado toast. It gave it a nice flare. My friend and I tried their pineapple tea and Grenadine Grapefruit. The Pineapple Tea was nice as it wasn't too sweet, but nothing special. The Grenadine Grapefruit was a tad sour for my preference but was refreshing. Constantine is a chic new restaurant near young and bloor which presents with an upscale, trendy vibe that is felt from the moment you walk through the door. The dining room is beautiful with a modern but cozy feeling and surrounds an open-style kitchen. The menu features several wood fired items and you can clearly see and smell the succulent creations coming out of the open flames at the back of the open kitchen. If you want to be up and personal with the chefs, you have the option of dining at the bar table that borders the entire kitchen. We started our meal with the kale and jalapeño salad and grilled octopus. Although the octopus was perfectly charred and tasty, we were only given one tentacle which was not worth the $22. When the salad was displayed with large chunks of fresh jalapeño, I definitely was nervous that my face was going to burn off. Surprisingly the jalapeño was pretty mellow and a nice compliment to the kale, goat cheese and pomegranate seeds. I must admit that the salad was lacking flavour and seasoning and would have benefited with more dressing. Compared to the starters. The main dishes did not skimp on portion size. I ordered the cod which was absolutely delicious. The fish was cooked to perfection and draped atop a white bean stew with grilled purple potatoes. The best part of the dish was the avocado crema that topped my fish and was the perfect compliment to all of the components m. The chicken was a feature from their wood fired oven. They brought half a chicken to the table which was well worth the price. The skin on the bird was charred and crispy while the inside was juicy. The waiter tried to convince us to order sides with our main dishes, however, we had more than enough food to satisfy our bellies. I made a reservation for a Saturday thinking this place would be packed but i could have turned up with 25 other people and still have been seated right away. The food was impressive and their Bloody Caesar was one of the best I have had in Toronto, but overall I would say it's overpriced. Came here with a friend recently on a Tuesday night. Was not busy at all, which was surprising. We asked to sit by the bar after seeing that it overlooked the chefs cooking. Chef's table anyone‍? The look, food, ambience, and service makes this a great place for date night or a good girls night out. They have a very diverse menu- pasta, seafood, steaks, even a vegetarian list. There's something for everyone! We ordered the roasted sweet potatoes and fresh fig, Cornish hen, and the wagyu picanah. The Cornish hen was very bland, would not recommend this dish. However if you're looking for an amazing appetizer I would highly recommend the roasted sweet potatoes and fresh fig. Sounds really basic but the way it's made and presented will leave you wanting more! The wagyu picanah was also really yummy. This restaurant is also very hard to find, if you're just relying on google maps. We came here for dinner on a Wednesday night, the place was super busy, which is surprising for a Wednesday night. This place is inside a hotel and although we made a reservation it was difficult to find the hostess. Our server was Bradley. We ordered crudo of the day, which is a tuna. And also broccolini, as well as lamb pizza and the wagyu. The crudo came out first, when I say first, that's a relative statement meaning it came out an hour after we ordered. I didn't realize raw fish took so long to cook, did they catch the fish as we ordered?The dish was very meh and not worth the money. 2/5* Then the broccolini came, basically just broccoli in some pasta sauce. Sometimes we were pleasantly surprised by restaurant vegetables, not so here. It's just broccoli with some sauce. 1/5* The servers then tried to give us the carrot dish, twice, even though we did not order it. We returned the dish saying we did not order both times. We waited some more and then the beef came, with couscous and chimchurri. Hm, but doesn't it come with tabouleh instead you ask? Well, they changed the dish as they see fit it seems. And the couscous came with pomegranate which is slightly odd. Beef was medium rare, and you can taste the coffee rubbed on it. The beef is basically mediocre again. Nothing special. 2/5* I asked for water twice, and they finally filled our waters 15 minutes after we asked. Then we waited, waited and waited for the pizza. By this time it was two hours after we ordered. Another server came by to clear our plates. Our server appeared and asked whether we wanted dessert. We asked where is the pizza? Our server claimed he wrote down everything and we did not order the pizza, he then read to us the three dishes we did order: crudo, wagyu & broccoli. The server was argumentative and gave us an attitude that we did not order the pizza, well we did order and he was wrong. But even if we were wrong, would you normally argue with a customer this way? I think it's in their whole culture as the table next to us waited such a long time for their dinners as well, and the chef came out and argued that basically they were overbooked and didn't expect that many for a Wednesday night. Well a simple solution - do not accept more customers than you can handle. At this point we said no to the pizza, and just asked for the bill. Well the bill came and it included, you guessed it, the carrots we did not order. We flagged down Bradley and he's like you did not eat the carrots? Well no, didn't you just say we only ordered three dishes and read them to us? He then said it will be quick fix which took another 10 minutes. The table next to us actually was celebrating their birthday and they didn't do anything for the birthday lady. Bradley offered a dessert as the gentleman was paying - too little too late there, I think a better and faster service would make a better impression, as it is, probably they regretted coming here for dinner. We went to several high end restaurants, but this is the first with argumentative server, horrible service, mediocre food for $$$ price. Just tried this new resto for brunch and was very impressed all around. They take reservations which is a plus especially for brunch. The restaurant is on the ground floor of a new hotel. The decor is very attractive and warm with tables set up so that you have plenty of space. The service was impressively friendly and attentive without being intrusive. For brunch we tried the duck confit hash, the breakfast pizza and the frittata, all well prepared and very flavourful. We will definitely return to try their dinner menu. read more

The bathroom at Constantine is just as aesthetically beautiful as the restaurant itself, however there are some small issues that keep it from being fantastic for you and your feculence. The design of the bathroom follows the recent trend of providing the customer with their own room equipped with a toilet, sink, mirror; similar to a half bathroom in a home. This in combination with the wood, stained a dark brown, gives me a sense of comfort. Let's get into it: The toilet paper was of a good quality and quantity. The toilet itself was solid but it would trigger a little too often from its motion sensor. The sink was beautiful and gives the user temperature control. Something that may become useful in the winter to warm up ones digits. However, the temperature would fluctuate when the toilet was triggered inside my little Crap Cabana leading to very hot water to flow through the tap and hurt my hands. This is the biggest issue I encountered. However, I don't anticipate this happening to everyone. From bad to amazing: The hand soap was astounding. It had cleaning beads and smelt amazing. I was smelling my hands through desert. I personally prefer to dry my hands with paper towels but I understand that can be more costly both for the establishment and the environment. Constantine has handled this but installing a high powered *brand name* hand drying machine. This machine is a suitable substitute for the lack of paper towels, however it is very highly positioned in the 1/2 bath, almost at neck level. Ideally it would be lower so one's hands can be dried in a more natural position. Other than that Constantine's washroom checks all the boxes and then some! Deadbolt lock with a door to seal you in the room, coat hanger, garbage container for miscellaneous trash. Finally, your little room is tied together nicely with a big, beautiful circular mirror that adorns the wall above the sink. Directly behind the mirror are lights that give the room a dim feel and accentuate the wood that lines the walls. Some small gripes: There is some exposed wire that can be seen in the ceiling. They are definitely safely handled but seeing them is a little bit of an eye sore. The holder of the toilet paper is loose and falls off easily. And lastly, although these 1/2 bath designs are a plus they sacrifice a good amount of quantity for the quality. There are only 3 bathrooms that I saw and although I did not have trouble getting a room, I could see the lack of toilet leading to an issue at busier work hours. TL;DR It's a beautiful bathroom that just has some small issues that hold it back from being perfect. Overall, I would say it's a great lavatory! read more

I tried a few of their dishes, but what really stood out for me was the gnocchi (tomato, eggplant, whipped ricotta). This was one of the most disappointing meals I've had in many a moon. Thank God I wasn't paying; my daughter and I were guests. I should have fled the minute I ordered a Lillet Blonde [a beloved apertif] and the waiter showed up with a bottle which was actually WARM. [Lillet is served chilled]. OK, said my daughter, pout it over some ice. When the drink came, there was so little liquid in the glass I first though it was ice melt. Where's the drink, I asked. "One ounce pour" was the dreaded reply. It got no better. My meal was OK, barely OK, but my host's wife's meal - she pronounced it inedible. This confirmed what I was coming to think: if you get a measly, crappy drink, pay for it and leave. Everything else will probably [not positively, but the smart bet !] be expensive and not very good. The people are outstanding and clearly present a passion and pride in the food and firm and you simply enjoy their genuine character. They love what they do and what they offer. The wine list is extensive and offers a wide range of choices from traditional to interesting to quirky with an awesome Sommelier to navigate the offerings. The food is exquisite.
