Came here with such a high hope but was quite disappointed. First the food. We had liver pate crostini, crudo of the day, kale salad, and a burrata cheese as appetizer. The kale salad was missing balance. It has too many citrus flavour in it and missed nutty/earth flavour (could have been better with some pecans or almonds). The crostini is not proportional to the liver pate - just too much pate and a bit too rich. It felt like a whole meal after eating it. After apps, we had a fennel salad, lamb rib and a braised beef cavatelli. While the other two were good, the lamb rib was a total disaster. It was so dry, over cooked and over spiced. You can't taste a single bit of the fattiness of lamb nor its "lamb" flavour. Other than the food, the service was incredibly slow. This is not our servers fault - more of a combination of understaff and a bad floor design. We came here on a Thursday night and the place got busy after 8pm. It looks like it's seriously understaffed with the amount of seating it has. Also because the huge open concept kitchen is located right in the middle and the restaurant has a few rooms/section/booths behind high chairs, it's seriously blocking servers views as they walk by. We came at 6:30 and we didn't finish until 9:30. I would say we spent more than 30min waiting to get a check and the POS machine. Yelp said this place is Mediterranean but in fact it's more of a Middle Eastern and Italian fusion. You will see once you see the pasta and pizza section on the menu. Not sure about the pizza here, but as of the middle eastern part, compared to the similar themed Bar Sybanne which I just went a few days ago before Constantine's, the latter really needs to do some work! read more

This review is for a brunch visit. I recall a dingy hotel occupying this area as even on a recent trip the area was strange mix of new high rise condos and some parts that would make you even afraid of your own shadow. I guess progress has moved in and a new hotel occupies the old dingy hotel. The lobby and restaurant have a modern look yet they feel a bit overwhelming with low ceiling and lack of windows. Ah well moving on from the aesthetics we ordered the following Toasted Sourdough with ricotta, honey, pistachio and pears. Nothing special IMO. OK for a filler I suppose. Duck Hash. This came with poached eggs as well. A hearty option for brunch I suppose. However I didn't like the taste profile. Also surprising was the addition of potatoes even though it clearly specified sweet potatoes. Its not the same you say potatoes I say batatas as both are quite different in taste. I tried the ricotta pancakes as well, again not what I expected as another place that is known for ricotta pancakes incorporates them in their batter. Not the case here just a dollop with a hint of lemon for ricotta. Serviceable but not worth a detour. The service is all over the place as well as after getting the menus we had to wait a bit to get our order in and follow up lacked as well. Wow. The food here is absolutely fantastic. Me and my husband stopped in here for brunch today (Sunday). We thought the prices looked pretty reasonable and we wanted to check out the new restaurant. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. There's a nice, semi-covered patio, a bar area and the restaurant. The centrepiece of the restaurant is the open kitchen, where you can watch the kitchen work it's magic. It is nice, bright and open for the day time, but I can see how the restaurant could also be perfect for a romantic date night. Moving on to the food. The food is 5-star, in my opinion. We ordered the breakfast pizza, the duck confit hash and the sourdough with ricotta. Everything was delicious, but the breakfast pizza was the showstopper. It has egg, merguez and bacon, and was rich, gooey and delicious. No complaints about the duck confit either. We will for sure be coming back to try more dishes. That being said, I'm giving a four star review because the service is brutally slow. I'm talking snails pace slow. Our server was really inefficient and our food took forever. Especially for brunch, I think people expect a bit of a faster pace. Our waters were filled, but our plates sat empty for awhile and we waited a long time to pay our bill. Hopefully management nabs the poor service in the bud, because the food is fantastic. read more

Giving it 4 stars for a few key reasons: 1) service is great for a sharing restaurant - they must've cleared our plates 4 x and brought new cutlery for every course - great service 2) some of the food was light on flavor while some was spot on. For example, tuna tartar was good but missing some of the zest that normally comes with that. Had the pleasure of staying at The Anndore House on our recent trip to Toronto. Such a great boutique hotel in a strategically located place. The Anndore House is decorated very beautifully with mid century vibes throughout the hotel. What is even more special about Anndore is their in-house restaurant which we didn't get to try for dinner per se, but where we enjoyed a few cocktails and appetizers before heading out for the night. Our cocktails were so delicious, even my earlier glass of wine as well. And our apps were really good as well. I loved and enjoyed the flatbreads so much! Constantine is located in the The Anndore House near Charles and Yonge. My friend and I dined at Constantine on a weeknight where we enjoyed a celebratory meal together. The entrance to the restaurant was confusing at first as we entered from the patio not knowing where the actual hostess was located. Unknown to us we had to walk further into the place, past the lounge, to be seated. Once we were seated we were greeted by our waiter who gave us many recommendations. Based on his suggestions we ordered a variety of food items to share. The concept of the menu is designed around sharing dishes. After ordering drinks we ordered a variety of dishes to share. For the smaller plates, we ordered the chicken liver crostini and the grilled halloumi on panella (with pickled chili and labneh). Both dishes were delicious and unique. The chicken liver crostini was smooth yet refreshing with the pickled carrots that came with the dish. The grilled halloumi had unique flavours of the Middle East combined with the Mediterranean. We also shared two vegetable dishes - the roasted sweet potatoes and fresh figs (with goat cheese, scallion, and chili) as well as the romesco cauliflower (with basil and romesco). Out of the two vegetable dishes, the cauliflower was the winner; the romesco sauce that accompanied the dish was to die for. We both also shared a Cornish hen (food fired with charred lemon and sumac). Lastly, we ordered a labneh millie feullie to share as dessert as well. With the amount of food that we ordered, as suggested by our waiter, we were both full and happy. Overall, Constantine brings unique flavours that combine flavour profiles and combinations of the Mediterranean with the Middle East. Hadn't been to Constantine since before Covid. We'd enjoyed it in those days when it had more of an Eastern Mediterranean focus. Well, it's as good as ever. The Burrata was fresh, the cherry tomatoes (peeled no less) full of flavour. Loved the Salmon Crudo (better than Alobar's). My wife had the Sablefish and loved the vegetable sides. Overall, it was a 3.5 to 4 star experience. The service was pretty good and the food was descent. The atmosphere was impressive although some main courses were just too plain for the restaurant's overall quality and pricing. Another down side was that when we received our dishes, nobody took a moment to explain what dish was made of what and since we ordered a bunch of items for a table of four; we lost the track of it. I thought I was eating potatoes until my mother in law told me they were Jerusalem artichokes. It may seem like a small detail to mention the dishes and ingredients; but at a fine dining experience, especially considering that people might have allergies or diets; they have to explain what's on the plate. The flat bread was very mediocre, to the point where I questioned what was so special about it. It wasn't anything spectacular like I would expect at such a restaurant. The lamb belly was cooked so nicely, tiny bit overdone but it added a bit of charred flavor onto it. Although the garnishes that came with it was poor. The duck was alright; but the kale that came with it was just plain kale, almost too plain that it didn't add anything to the dish. The appetizers are represented well overall but are again not explained so I had no idea what I was eating. We just ate whatever was put in front of us. The desert was poor; the Valentine's Day special cake almost tasted like couple of days old. The pastry didn't feel fresh. We got one of each desert on the menu, and nothing was good enough to remember. My favorite item on the menu was some sort of a ravioli that came with a tangy orange citrus sauce. Where to begin? It's a swanky, modern establishment with a lot of space. Service was friendly and server was knowledgeable. I have tried: -avocado toast (light and delicious) -lox (is a bit of a strong taste for breakfast in my opinion, but good quality fish) -duck confit hash (super heavy but so hearty and yummy) -breakfast pizza (my fave! It was alright, pretty oily. Food was ready fast but it was pretty hard to digest all the grease and oil.

I made a reservation a few weeks ago when I saw this restaurant featured in Toronto Life. I remember how hard it was to try La Palma (same chef) last summer so I rushed to make a reservation and was not let down. The restaurant is very spacious and modern. It is divided into three unique spaces - a bar area that is supposed to be somewhat more lively, the lounge and the dining room. The space we were seated had a fire place and was quite cozy. Our waitress was very friendly and spent time walking us through the menu. She mentioned that before the restaurant opened the staff got to try all the dishes so she was able to provide recommendations based on our desired palette. She also was able to accommodate small changes to the items we wanted to try to avoid dairy. The menu features a combination of Middle Eastern and Italian food (two of my favourites)! Similar to La Palma, the menu has an entire section devoted to vegetable sides. We settled on the cauliflower to start, which quite frankly was a let down. The pepper sauce was great but I expected the cauliflower to be hot and it was cold (not even mildly heated). The mezze plate was amazing and came with a long flat bread seasoned with za'tar and has three dips: labneh, eggplant and red pepper. I was a bit annoyed that the waitress noted in advance that she would omit the feta atop one of the dips yet didn't offer substitute the labneh for extra of one of the other dips (we also didn't notice or ask so I guess our fault a bit too but it literally went untouched since we don't eat dairy). For mains, we shared the eggplant gnocchi (without ricotta) and the eggplant pizza (without cheese). I appreciated that the pizza had enough toppings that it was still very satisfying and enjoyable without the cheese. It was topped with eggplant, raisins and pine nuts. The breading was similar to the flatbread. I appreciated the pace at which the food came out - each appetizer on its own and then the pizza and gnocchi together. The dessert menu left much to be desired so we skipped it. Overall, great menu and I would definitely come back. I felt the prices were reasonable for the level of service and the quality of the food. read more

Came across this restaurant on my way to a coffee shop and was attracted by the beautiful patio! So my gf and I were looking for a patio and decided to try this one out and see if it's as good as it looks! The patio and decor inside was amazing, definitely a great space for a quick drink or snacks. The main entree however I thought was a little underwhelming for the price they posted. We had gone for lunch and I ordered a lamb sausage pizza - which was so small in size and not filling at all, mind you Im a petite 5 ft 2 and don't require a lot of food to fill me up. The amount of lamb sausage on it was also very very minimal. My gf got a gnocchi with Japanese egg tofu which was decent and also not as filling. An excerpt from a longer review... Fennel and Cara Cara ($14) was an underwhelming plate featuring flame-grilled fennel and red endive doused in a Campari vinaigrette and fennel pollen. What was surely intended to be rustic plating instead made the dish appear like it had been thrown together in haste. The only redeeming quality was the juicy segments of Cara Cara navels that were dispersed throughout the mixture. I appreciated the used of this pink-fleshed orange as it was less acidic than other citrus varieties and tasted more like a berry. It balanced the anise-like taste of the fennel nicely. While I don't necessarily think of carrots as a showstopper, the sweet and spicy fire from the Spiced Carrots ($15) changed my point de vue. The perfectly tender carrots were served with baby mustard greens and dabs of herby chimichurri. Although the menu says that the dish comes with pita bread, I was served with sourdough toast instead for some reason? Maybe they ran out of pita but did not tell me? Flavour of the "soup" was great though, I would eat it again. Lamb Burger - my friend who loves burgers thought the burger was average, nothing stood out. Maybe he prefers beef over lamb, but the patty was definitely THICC! The fries that came with the burger was great though! Call me stupid or anything, it's probably my first time drinking sparkling wine out of a regular wine glass instead of a flute. Service over all was really attentive and friendly. I love it. Lamb ribs: unusually bone dry! It even scratched my mouth from eating it. Broccolini: My favorite of the night. I highly recommend. Tomato sauce on it was totally spot-on! Fennel & Ciara Cara: I heard good things about it, but the bitterness from citrus and fennel kinda turned me off. It's probably just my own tastes. The chef from Campagnolo has done it again! I came here on a Wednesday and it was packed - no doubt. Constantine serves Italian/Arabic and to my surprise, I really enjoyed all their dishes! I had their Tuna Credo, Papardelle, Lamb Ribs and Sweet Potato with Figs. The tuna credo was exquisite. Mind you, you're not paying for portions here - everything is delicious and for sharing. The edible flowers and hints of pickled vegetables were perfect with the tuna. The papardelle was served with braised rabbit and green olives in a creamy red sauce. Probably one of my favourites of the night. My favourite was the lamb ribs. They're served with a yogurt sauce on the side but the ribs were marinated perfectly and cooked so well that I didn't even need the sauce. So good. As a "vegetable side", we got the sweet potato and figs salad. It's standard but I love that they grill the figs before putting them into the dish. Do yourself a favour and AVOID! Never thought I'd experience restaurant service this bad (at an expensive place no less). It was painfully bad. Three things to point out: 1. If red wine hadn't been wrongly brought to my table then I wouldn't have had my white sweater completely ruined by one of the waitresses (photo attached) 2. We weren't given cutlery, although pasta was ordered 3. Never received serviettes (also had to ask) Accidents happen, which is fine, but it was everything that happened in conjunction that made the experience shocking. And on top of that the manager LIED. The manager (Jared) had assured me that they would pay for my cleaning bill, and even insisted that I send an email the following day. It's been a week - I've sent emails, even called, and have received no response whatsoever. It's infuriating because what's the point in making false promises? If anything is worth coming for, its actually a dessert. Their dessert strawberry rhubarb tart is amazing and a great way to start off or end your evening with. To be fair we tried two dishes: the duck dish and the chicken. Both were cooked well but for the price I was expecting amazing spices, sauces or flavors, instead it was a very well cooked meal, but something I could get as room service at a 5 star resort. The duck was served with whole carrots that were grilled and slightly undercooked; smaller carrots or cutup carrots would have been preferred. The chicken was again cooked well, still moist but on a bed of fried vegetables that again lacked a sauce. Also, when we went it wasn't particularly busy. We also showed up at the end of the night (9pm) and the place was quite empty. Because of this we thought we'd get increased attention from our waitress, however there was large gaps between ordering food, drinks and being checked on. Now here's a place I would return to JUST to sit and stare at the decor. It's kind of like dining in a hidden cavern with elegant lighting and decorative touches, while still managing to seem cosy and exclusive. Shout-out to the management for not crowding customers into crammed booths/seating. I love the space here, even if the food is hit and miss. It's borderline eleganza extravaganza in a galaxy of greasy spoon locales. We waited for at least 45 minutes for our food after ordering, as the place was quite busy and recovering from the brunch rush. I ordered one of the pizzas and devoured it more quickly than is appropriate for a lady, so I guess I'm not. My memories are hazy, but I recall a distinctly salty note, with few toppings. I don't love the tapas/shared plates concept, so that's one thing I'd change about this place if I could. Washrooms are private and spacious--great for changing into your superhero outfit while phone booths are in such short supply these days. read more

First off, credit where credit's due; the ambiance is very nice. Beautiful decor, beautiful people, open kitchen in the middle of the space, wood burning oven and more. Let's get to the experience: Met at the door by a waitress who with a puzzled face (sort of like, oh you're here to eat? Really?) took us to the front desk to be seated. The gentlemen that seated us was very nice, made good conversation and seated us with our menus. We waited for 15 minutes for the waiter to arrive. The space was less than half full (on a saturday around 1pm we thought the place would be bumping) and there must have been 10 waiter/waitresses just walking about. An extremely pretentious waiter arrives to grab our drink order; 2 mimosas and one orange juice for the little one. We wait another 20 minutes for those drinks that must have been extremely hard to prepare. Drinks arrive and we immediately order our food. Duck confit hash -$22 Lamb burger - $21 Cheese pizza - $15 We wait a good 25 minutes and our food arrives. We are restauranteurs and are very tolerant of all types of things, because we simply know how hard it is and we can relate. The wait, we understand, the pretentious waiter, we understand, but the underwhelming food, we cannot understand and accept at all. The waiter by the way, places the food in front of us and follows to say; well everything looks amazing. (Aren't we supposed to be saying that, way to try and put words in our mouths). The food: The Duck confit hash is constructed as follows; about 4 entire potatoes cut into wedges and charred (beyond recognition). I cannot understand the huge pile of potatoes, I really cannot. But what is even harder to fathom is the amount of duck that is sitting on top of it. Take your middle and index fingers, put them together and visualize the area around half of what you see. Probably around 50 grams in weight. The waiter comes around and asks how our first bites were and my wife says that the dish is too hot/spicy. He says, get this, "Great!" and turns around showing how much he's really listening to the customers. The lamb burger; You all know the sliders they serve at pubs, well this burger was just a bit larger than those. Don't get me wrong, if the taste was exceptional, I could care less about it's size but it was extremely bland. The pizza; A huge disappointment. An elongated flat bread a bit longer than my hand, there was no indication or taste to show that there were three incredible cheeses there like described in the menu. Tasted at most like shredded mozarella you get at supermarkets. Unbelievable. During the service, we ask a waitress (the same puzzled waitress from when we first arrived, because our waiter was nowhere to be found) for a straw which doesn't come. We then ask for our bill (again the same waitress), we wait for a good 10 minutes and nothing. Finally our original waiter/propagandist sees our puzzled faces and asks if we need anything and right as I'm about to explain that I've already asked for the bill, he says "oh no worries"(again, aren't I supposed to be saying that!), turns around without letting me finish my sentence and walks to grab the bill. We have never been ones to regret spending money on food, it's always an experience and we take it as that. But I critique, and that's what I will do here. The price of the food is extreme for what it is and honestly an insult to all the great and original establishments that serve amazing food at the same price point. The ambiance seems to be hightened to cover up for the underwhelming food they are serving. Serving lamb and a shakshouka cannot be the "mediterranean" a place like this tries to represent. There are hundreds of ingredients and techniques that should be used at an establishment of this caliber. We are beyond disappointed about Constantine. Our city has so much to offer and it is a shame that Constantine will never in our minds, be a part of this scene unless they improve themselves immediately. read more

Décor in the restaurant was very nice and chic. I honestly had a really good feeling about this restaurant. The food prices seem reasonable for a dinner and food was average. I understand in this world you get what you paid for. BUT.... I didn't expect the service to be that terrible and unprofessional! Here are a few examples: 1) When the waitress came to take our order, she forgot her paper. 2) They messed up our order up with another table. 3) They keep mixing up the dishes we ordered. 4) When the female server came with the kebabs, she almost dropped the food on the table and BLAMED one of our hands is in the way for her mishap. 5) The waitress frowned on us when we didn't order desserts. Please note we are not a bunch of cheapos who ordered nothing. We ordered sparkling wine, 2 appetizers, 1 vegetable side and 5 main dishes between 3 adults and 2 children. I don't think we deserve this kind of attitude for not ordering a dessert we don't want. If the restaurant wants to stay in business, they should properly train their employees to be more attentive to their jobs. read more

A very nice experience but somehow I didn't feel a connection here. For me it was a little stiff in terms of atmosphere. Like when you go to your aunt's house and you're not allowed to touch anything. Not that I wanted to touch the displays of white backlit vases, but just not what I would call a relaxed feel. Lots of meat came in the pasta which isn't always the case at upper scale restaurants serving pasta for $25+ -Coffee Rubbed Wagyu Steak The server said it would come medium rare which is the way I like my steak. However, it came between medium and medium well which I almost said something about. I didn't however. With that said, the steak was killer regardless. Really tasty. Came with tabule and chimichurri. Chimmi was tasteless though missing seasoning and likely garlic. Misses were... -Carrots I read that these would be good but they were just meh. Nothing special -Sweet Potatoes I read it on the menu and thought that it would be hard for it not to be good. I was just meh. -Falafel like fritters Dont remember exactly what was in these but they were like falafals. Bland and lacked seasoning. I'd try this spot again but I'd be more apt to go to La Palma or Camp before going back to this spot. Still a fun experience though. read more

I think it's pretty ridiculous that this place is rated 3.5 stars. This has become my go to spot in the Yonge and Bloor neighborhood. The decore is well done and the food is great as well. A few things that I've enjoyed the most - the avocado toast, lamb burger, and the breakfast pizza. Coffee is also very well done. If you need a place to work out of and to do meetings, the lounge is a great spot. There are some reviews about poor service but I've never had a poor experience with the service. People are nice, always asking and to refill your coffee. I once had to wait 5 minutes for a coffee and they actually comp'd it. Unnecessary but showed that they wanted to get it right. read more

Food is good Decor is beautiful (Casino Royale vibez, anyone?) Ask for the fireplace seating if you're a group of 4-6 and y'all just want some tapas & drankz (You're welcome;) Watch-out for family-style dining because Constantine gives you waaay too much food. I'm saddened by the inaccurate estimation. I mean, food is good but the experience is less than perfect. Got a last minute reso and was excited to try out chef Harding's new restaurant! The vibe of the restaurant was classy but laid back. Definitely more Mediterranean feel vs the California feel of La Palma. But also not trying too hard like other restaurants in yorkville. Had the octopus and tuna crudo, which were great. However, the octopus at Giulietta is still the best I've ever had. The kebab was amazing and just melted in your mouth. The pairing with the pickled carrots and dill labneh offset the rich flavor and salt of the meat. Finally the sea buckthorn tart was a great finish to the meal! Would come again and try the chef's tasting menu for 75 each. Spent even more per person on what we ordered with drinks but we were told the chef's menu would've been too much food! The chef from La Palmas and Campagnolo, Craig Harding, brings Toronto another home run menu. Cuisine is Arabic/Italian fusion, the intersection of pan Middle-Eastern and Mediterranean Italian. Inspired by a food trip to Istanbul and Israel, Craig's bringing forward Arabic flavours first, with cooking techniques and bases from Italy. For example, his grilled short rib in a tomato zatar, or his artichoke and red pepper branzino roses on bulgur. What I really appreciate about his cooking is he seems to understand the Arabic cuisine, almost as if he's been cooking with those flavours his entire life. It's the first successful attempt at elevating Arabic cuisine I've seen in Toronto. Service wise, a little younger, and gives the place a slightly cooler and more relaxed ambiance. Space wise, lots of gold, blacks, and whites, with the kitchen right in the centre. The space thus feels airy, with pockets of individual character. A smart move, because it makes coming back to the restaurant a new experience each time you're sat in a different style. A personal new favourite of mine, and a must visit. read more

I was very much looking forward to this meal after having enjoyed Campagnolo given it is the same chef behind both. It was a failed attempt at avant garde. The decor is beautiful and I was quite impressed with how tasteful the vibe was. Much to my chagrin however, the food does not live up to the same standard. I went for brunch and was looking forward to some classic cacio e pepe; to my surprise it came out as a pizza with no mention of such on the menu. The item above it was listed as a pizza and this one clearly was not - the server expected me to have a moment of clairvoyance when I brought this to her attention. The dish was over salted, underwhelming and I walked away hungry after swallowing my meal. Also disappointing that this clear misrepresentation by the restaurant was at my own expense. No apology for the manager despite the restaurant being over half empty. read more

the food & service was on POINT, the menu isn't very big but the 4 things we ordered were bang on flavour & presentation wise. the vibe inside was super cute & classy, and the service was professional, fast, friendly and funny. probably the best fattoush salad i've ever had. read more
