This morning, my 10-year-old laptop suddenly developed an annoying Wi-Fi issue where it couldn't detect any wireless networks to connect to. I searched online and tried all the suggested fixes from people who had experienced the same problem, but nothing worked. I walked into Computer Plus in the afternoon without an appointment. Michael helped me reinstall the network drivers and patiently checked every possible cause of the problem. When none of it seemed to work, he told me there was no charge for his time. But when I got home and turned the laptop back on, it automatically connected to the internet! It turned out everything Michael had done had worked, the laptop just needed one more restart. I went back to Computer Plus wanting to pay him, but Michael refused to accept any payment. He said he had only spent about 10 minutes reinstalling the drivers and didn't think it was fair to charge me. How can someone be so kind? Called at 11 AM because I couldn't get internet at work and the boss was back in town in 2 days. Mike was real friendly on the phone showed up in 2 hours and diagnose the problem as a bad router. Researched routers and printed out the page of the one I was supposed to buy and make sure it was in stock at Best Buy. Poor communication- store wasn't open during posted hours, overcharged for a simple OS install. Was required to pay cash. Picked up machine they forgot to include the power cable. Had to come back, store closed again during posted hours. Had to coordinate pickup with owner multiple times, didn't give me an invoice so I had to request it, got back to me days later with no email, texted me a photo of the invoice that was cutoff, requested another photo, got no response. You'd think they would know how to send an invoice via email being a computer repair shop. read more

I found Mike and Computer Plus through a mutual friend. I needed help with my moms laptop because she seems to keep getting viruses on them. (I blame the old age, really) any who, she had gone through two PCs and a Mac. All were out of commission. I called Mike and he was very informative over the phone. He didn't quote me some ridiculous amount. So I took a trip out to the shop. He kept his word with the amount and fixed two out of the three within a few days!!!! I directed my laptop to a different printer for a specific online task. When I attempted to redirect it back to my default printer, the trouble began. My laptop could not find my printer. I'll skip over the hours of troubleshooting and frustration and just say that at some point I realized I was stuck and needed help. I went to Yelp and saw Computer Plus. They had good ratings and they were located close by, so I gave them a call. Within an hour Gary was at my house, at work on the problem. He went through the same troubleshooting process I had gone through with the same unsuccessful results, but in the end he was able to take it further than I could, and eventually work out a successful solution. Computer Plus (CP) is located in an accessible, central area in Pasadena near the Foothill/Sierra Madre intersection. Good thing for me because after a recent disastrous Macbook disaster in the middle of a writing project, I was able to get down to CP in a Pasadena minute. Yes, I know I'm not supposed to pour coffee over my keyboard. What, you think I did it on purpose? Anyway, the first thing Maestro Mike at CP did was to calm me down and have me breathe into a paper bag he had handy, because I was hyperventilating badly. Jokes aside, Mike did a quick and expert assessment of the damage to let me know what my options were. None of them were exactly painless, but the bottom line is that Mike was able to retrieve my precious writing project, on which my life practically depended on, as well as ALL the photos and various other treasured data that had been lost due to the water damage. Understanding the time pressures I was under, Mike put some turbo into the data repair and retrieval and I lost only a couple of days of work before I was back in the saddle again. My feeling is if you take this kind of job to a "large" organization (ahem, Apple), you may achieve the same successful outcome, but in my experience, you won't be able to talk to someone who is sympathetic to your personal situation. If it's five days to get a spare part in, it's five days, period. The customer's agony is not an issue. So, bigger is not always better. Bottom line: Computer Plus? Highly recommended! read more

I contacted Computer Plus because I've been using my old college laptop a lot more since work-from-home started. I was hoping to upgrade my harddrive to an SSD to improve some performance, and Mike gave me a really fair rate. I agreed and left my computer with him. Eventually it turned out my computer's slowness was due to a software issue and not a hardware issue, and Mike helped me clean up and reinstall software on my computer, while being very clear and helpful in telling me what was happening. Over the past week Gary and his associates have installed a 6 IP camera system at my house in San Marino. I learned about Gary through our neighbor up the street whose clean camera installation caught my attention. Gary visited my property and carefully evaluated my options; although he is knowledgeable, he is also respectful of the customer's needs (it helps that I myself work in technology as well!) and we had a productive dialog that converged to an optimal hardware solution. He has demonstrated integrity and a focus on customer satisfaction on several occasions. Although he had plans to subcontract the wiring, he committed to the estimate and ended up getting dirty himself and running the cables himself after learning that his cost would be higher than his original labor estimate. As the job is wrapping up this week, he has made repeated trips to my house for even the smallest of tasks to ensure that everything is perfect. This was by far the best and easiest computer repair experience I've had. I brought in my old desktop because it wouldn't start up. I assumed the computer was done for but I was hoping they could at least recover my data. Michael was fantastic - very knowledgeable and helpful and kind. He diagnosed the problem in about 3 minutes and told me he could save the computer. He said he'd have it back to me by the end of the day if he could get hold of a part he needed. I had called a few other places to see if my laptop could be salvaged. All I got were message machines. I reached out to Computer Plus and Mike answered straight away and offered to take a look at my computer right away to assess the damage.(Your laptop is not a cup holder) Dropped it off and Mike let me know everything he was going to do and that he would call me later in the day. I went to grab some IN-N-Out and within minutes of pulling out of the drive thru Mike called me back letting me know it was all fixed and he just needed some more info from me to double check everything was good to go. Super fast, and super painless. He called me back a short time later and I picked it up. I left with my laptop good as new and with some great recommendations for keeping my computer from slowing down. I'll be coming back very soon to upgrade my ram and perhaps a new hard drive.
