Courteous, fast, and professional. Had a lot of "newbie" questions about building a computer and getting it running, but Sam was patient and walked me through the process. His prices were more than fair, and in addition to saving me money on some parts I thought I needed, he was even kind enough to answer a some questions of mine l a few days after he'd finished the job. Definite recommend. read more

I just got a new computer and I couldn't figure out the new BIOS setup and had accidentally turned off all of my USB ports. After trying a bunch of things I saw online with none of them working I gave up and called this place. I asked the guy what the turnaround for fixing a computer was like and he said he could pick it up first thing in the morning and have it back to me in an hour but first he asked what was wrong with my computer. I explained to him my situation and he told me a couple of things I could try before they pick up the computer. He walked me through all the steps on the phone. Not only did he do that, he also explained why I was running into the problems I had. I tried his suggestions and it worked! I got my USB ports working again. Thanks so much for helping me fix my computer, I didn't even need to have it taken in. Every computer problem I experience from now on I'm taking here. read more

Sam is amazing - honest - and fast. He's helped me twice over the last 7 years... why not more? Because the first time, my computer need fixing again after visiting him. I worked on that first computer 'til it could no longer be upgraded. And just recently, I had an issue with my laptop not turning on. He called me right back and talked me through my options. He was very clear and honest, and in the end, we both determined that it probably wasn't a good idea to fix it cost effective to fix a 4 year old laptop that probably burned out its graphics card. Many repair facilities might have exploited this opportunity, but Sam was clear with my options and I really appreciate that. I'll probably bring the laptop to him when the cost of GPU's comes down, and put that money towards a new AMD Ryzen laptop. A great conversation! read more

Called Sam early morning on Thursday to see about repairing our 2010 iMac that has been lagging for years. He was able to accommodate us with a same day appointment @ 10:30 am and arrived early! He replaced the hard drive and showed me how to save files pictures etc to an external hard drive. Also gave us tips on how to keep the computer running well. Just like you take care of your tune ups on a car;0) Thanks again Sam read more

I wanted a new non-Apple battery installed in a MacBook. Sam warned me that the operating system may not accept non-OEM equipment, and I agreed to take that risk. Unfortunately, that's just what happened -- the laptop powered up and displayed an error message ("incompatible hardware") and would not continue without Apple intervention. Our experiment had failed, and I was OK with that. So Sam removed the non-Apple battery and returned the laptop with no battery in place -- but it would not power on. (A MacBook should run on the charger alone.) I took the now dead laptop to an Apple-authorized business for assessment and they could not get it to power on -- speculating that during removal of the battery there had been a short of the solid state motherboard. (Apparently you have to hold the power off button for 20 seconds to dispel any static electricity.) Anyway, bottom line is that I gambled on the battery being rejected, but never anticipated that routine repair work could cause permanent damage. I should have gone to an Apple-authorized business from the start and had an OEM battery installed by trained professionals. read more

Sam is the man, he put up with my many questions, and answered them thoroughly. I had a virus on my Mac, and he walked me through what I needed to do, before we were certain that I would need his services. Honest guy, will shoot you straight. I ended up requiring his service to restore my Mac. Came by, and did it all in his car outside my house. He also calmed my routine panic, and put up with my anxious irrelevancies. I stand by the guy. read more

It's so refreshing to give a 5* review for a business because I did NOT actually use their services! I left a message on a Sunday afternoon about my laptop that's been overheating lately. Sam called me within the hour and told me how to troubleshoot it on my own. He thinks it's probably dusty inside, so he suggested I order a special screwdriver on Amazon & told me exactly how to carefully clean the inside of the laptop. He also recommended I order a cooling pad from Amazon to keep it cool in the future, and suggested that if cleaning the inside does the trick, that I set a calendar alert for every 8 months or so to make sure it's always clean. If cleaning doesn't do the trick, I'll absolutely bring my laptop to Sam & trust that this is an honest business. read more

If your computer's in trouble, look no further. South Pasadena Computer Repair should be your first choice. I selected this company because of all the 5-star reviews. My aging PC had a disk failure on a Sunday afternoon and Sam had me bring it over within an hour. He did an insightful triage over the phone, and clearly described what he would do and the (very fair) pricing based on his findings. While he fixed the relevant problem, my computer still wasn't operating properly. He had me bring it back to him, saved all the data from my hard disk, and got it working again. To say that Sam is a stand up guy is putting it lightly: he gave me time, insight, and "above and beyond" service. All for the initial price quote. Honestly, I give him my very, very highest recommendation. read more

My dad's desktop stopped working after a power surge took out the surge protector and apparently fried the power supply. We needed a quick fix and decided to take it to Sam. He didn't disappoint! Sam quoted us over the phone (with what I thought was a fair price), and we took the computer to him the next day. Sam had a brand new power supply ready to go when we got there, and tested it out to make sure it worked. He even decided to run a quick virus scan on the computer since my dad had mentioned he thought it was running slower than it should. Sam only charged us what he had initially quoted us over the phone and basically threw in a free virus clean-up. Sam was a really nice guy, clearly knows his stuff when it comes to computers, and was able to provide a very quick fix for something that would've taken about 2 weeks had we brought it to a Best Buy. We'll be going back to Sam for any future computer troubles! read more

Looked this place up on yelp and called because my computer had a cracked screen, they had the screen replacement in a few days and I brought my comp in and it basically took like 15 minutes for them to fix it. New screen works perfectly, no issues, and they downloaded a program that limits the really annoying aspects of windows 8 with all of the jumping around on the app button. Anyways they cost much less than their cheapest local competitor. I heard prices of anywhere from 200-300 for the repair. I would recommend this place to anybody for cracked comp screens. read more

Tried to drop my computer here in the middle of the work day and pulled up to a residential apartment complex. Was unable to find the location so I called the number. After reaching a machine multiple times someone finally answered the phone telling me they weren't there. He wouldn't be back for a while but told me my problem was most likely the logic board after I told him hardly any info, he also said he probably didn't have the part. Luckily I found another repair center who figured out it was a simple software issue. All in all, I wasn't happy with my experience. read more

I love how Sam makes this whole process convenient and efficient for busy people such as myself. My laptop wasn't acting properly --- super slow and not opening some websites. He picked it up at my work, determined that it needed a new hard drive, and checked in with me before proceeding to move forward with the job. After I gave him a go signal, he fixed it, dropped it off my work. No hassle! Efficient and quick. read more

Do not call them. Do not call them. Do not call them. They are rude. Very rude and will yell at you and tell you you are stupid for updating, the last thing you need or anyone needs is to call and ask for help and get yelled at my a supposed business. They answer the phone unprofessionally and are extremely rude. read more

Sam is professional. You won't get that feel in the beginning though but once you leave your system for him to fix, by the time you come back to pick your laptop/computer you'll feel like you've known him. He's the friend that's good with computers. He's the smart friend you'd wish to be on your side in case of global cyber war. I found Sam through Yelp. Now, I thought I was lost when I ended up in an apartment complex. Called him and told him about my laptop. He explained in details the possible faulty part that's causing problem to my laptop. Explained why it's causing the faulty sound. Yes, he was right. I've dropped my laptop once, twice, or three too many times. But the recent drop, I believe was the cause of the downfall. Also the age. Sam replaced my hard drive as he explained they last about 4 to 6 years from certain years of model. When I got my laptop back, check it out and the sound was gone. He explained how he repaired it and what he replaced. He also told me what I need for back up. Satisfied with his work. read more

Sam is honest, friendly, has very good rates, and really knows his stuff. He diagnosed an issue with my computer that another shop couldn't. He also walked me through the simple but time-consuming fix in order to save me money. I'm truly impressed with his integrity and cannot recommend South Pasadena Computer Repair enough! read more

This "business" is one guy (as far as I can see) running an operation out of his apartment. He appears to know computers and did literally what I asked him to do and no more. My complaints have to do with his lack of professionalism and customer service. He does not appear to antcipate questions or follow-ups, and acts annoyed with you if you question him or if you show you aren't tech literate. I'm sorry, if I was tech literate, I wouldn't have sought his services in the first place. I have taken my business elsewhere since then. read more

Really helpful, walk me through what it would look like over the phone, and I'm overall very satisfied with their service

Sam is THE Man. I just returned from being deployed for six months and while I was away my computer contracted a terrible virus that prevented me from doing school work or communicating with family. When I returned on leave, I found him conveniently located in South Pas where I was staying. I called and there was no pick up. However, within 20 seconds he called me back and we arranged a time to drop off my computer. Within two hours of dropping it off he had completely fixed my computer and rid it of the virus. Thanks Sam!!! Take your computer to him ASAP!!! Now my computer is working better than before! read more

I contacted South Pasadena Computer Repair after my MacBook Air unexpectedly crashed. I contacted them on Sunday afternoon and Sam was incredibly helpful and was able to pick up my computer and within several hours and provide me diagnostic information to let me know the logicboard had unfortunately failed. Within 12 hours he was able to retrieve all of my computer files (including an important project I needed by the next day) and return everything to me the next morning. He quoted me a price range prior to using to his services and his final bill was within that range. I greatly appreciated the help and personal service in an emergency. Sam was very professional and I will use South Pasadena Computer Repair in the future if needed. read more

In response to Sam, here are a few clarifications on my earlier review posted in 2019. The repair by Sam was done a couple years prior to that. In 2019 I came across the laptop drive Sam had installed since I had not destroyed it. I did not forget the repair experience and decided I would write my review in 2019. The technician was given more than 6 additional hours than promised to complete the hard drive downloads. I called about 6:00 p.m. (did not force my way in) and requested the work be completed. I drove to the apartment and waited while the downloads ran. I was not told more downloads were needed before I left, and I only discovered that when I returned home. My review stated that within a MONTH (not 2 years) after Sam's service, I had an unrelated computer issue. This time I took the computer to a different repair shop. I was there when the technician opened the computer. He pointed out the dangling laptop drive ( it was used and had a date on it of 4 years earlier) with no mount. The other computer issue I had was repaired, and the drive problems were also fixed at an additional expense to me. read more

Sam was super helpful on fixing my laptop. He also gave great advice on where to locate the parts I needed and made sure I got the best bargain for it. He fixed my computer, which has been out of commission for quite some time, and now it's running even better than when I first had it. He's a genuine guy who wants to give you the best service he can for the money you're giving him, and he is very reasonably priced. He gave me a quote over the phone on how much the repair would be. He made me feel comfortable and safe, which is important since you are handing over so much information to him on your computer. So great to have a go-to guy for my computer needs. read more

My broken cracked laptop screen was repaired here fast LCD replacement in no time!

I think Sam has mistaken Pasadena for the Wild West. I went to him in desperation and after he informed me that he couldn't retrieve my data, which is what I wanted, he told me he had installed a new hard drive and tried to quote me for a price on it. I had no intention of rebuilding an old laptop, unless it was going to save my data. When I confronted him on this, he became hostile and tried to bully me. After our dispute, he tried to sell me the unfixed laptop and a broken hard drive for 100 dollars. When I said it sounded expensive and irrational, he started threatening to sell my stuff. His hostility, unprofessionalism, and threats were totally unnecessary. All it would have taken was some professional communication and integrity, but I think he was trying to pull a quick swindle. People like this make it hard to support small businesses and entrepreneurs, forcing consumers to needlessly rely on big business for purchases. In the end, Sam sold (stole) my computer without giving me the opportunity to either pay him for his labor or negotiate a fair deal. If you go here, expect snake-oil salesmanship and quick-dealing double-talk. I read more

My husband and I needed a power cord for a laptop. We found on Yelp this "business" that had it. The address led to his apartment. On Google, this power cord ranges somewhere between $6 and $24. He asked $60 cash for a used cord. This man/makeshift store makes profit off people's desperate circumstances. I understand that we live in a free-market society. However, making profit by taking advantage of a persons' plight is something to be aware of. read more

I'm a court reporter. On a Saturday night, I was working on an expedited transcript due the following Monday when my laptop died. I panicked and thought I had lost all the edits I just worked on plus all the hundreds of files related to previous transcripts. I woke up on the next morning and called all the local computer repair businesses I could find, and Sam was the only one who answered the phone that Sunday. Within an hour, he was PICKING UP my laptop from me, and within two hours, he was DROPPING IT OFF to me. He was able to retrieve my files and get my laptop running again quickly enough for me to get the expedite done on time. And although some other computer repair people may disagree, I believe Sam's professionalism and expertise prevented my whole head of hair from turning gray overnight. I will absolutely be calling Sam again for any computer-related issues that may come up. read more

I was in desperate need of someone to fix my laptop. I received a few referrals through friends, but decided to do a search on my own to see if there was someone closer to where I lived. I searched here on YELP, and found South Pasadena Computer Repair. Which is very close to my home. I thought 'what the heck, I'll give it a try.' I called, and Sam immediately answered the phone. I explained my situation, and he arranged a very prompt time for me to bring over my computer to him. He also explained what his thoughts were about fixing it, and offered an estimate of how much it would cost. There was a huge possibility because of my problems, that I would be losing hundreds of files, personal pictures of my child and family, and work files. I was praying that this would not happen. Mind you....I don't know this person, I don't know anyone that knows him, but the reviews I read earlier made me feel confident that he would be a good guy. I drove to his location, he was very friendly. I left my computer, and honestly hoped for the best. 24 hours later, he called and said my computer was done and ready. He charged me less than what he thought it would be, was able to save everything, AND improved some of my files to assist me in the long run. So here we are,... you don't know me, I don't know you.......Based on the personal service that I received from Sam, I can assure you that he's THE GUY. We will be using him for all of our computer needs and I will be telling everyone that I know about him in the future. read more
