BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! PLEASE READ!!!! MUST…read moreREAD!!!! I have a 65 inch TV that went out and after trying some attempts, I researched on Google it would not come back on. It appeared that it may be the backlights.... I searched Google, found this place and reached out. He came immediately to my house to look at the TV ...I didn't know how this worked. I assumed that they opened up the TV at my house and took a look at it ...nonetheless he told me that he needed to take it into the shop. I then ask him. How are you going to get a 65 inch TV down to your work truck...He tells me that I can help him carry the TV down, that it's not that heavy! I am 59 years old with back issues. I do not work for this company nor should I be helping him carry a 65 inch TV down to his work truck... if you came to my house and you accepted the job why are you not prepared with assistance to take the TV down... that should've been the RED FLAG and I should have ask him to please leave my house. But instead, I call my son who lives in the same apartment complex as me, different apartment ...who happens to be off work this day..he comes down to help him carry the TV to his work truck. He's not happy about it at all because he also feels like why is he here to take the job if he can't get the TV to his truck? Why doesn't he have someone helping him? I don't work for him. He takes my TV to his shop. Has it for one week brings it back. I help him put it back on the wall. The TV works for two days and goes out again. I make a call to him to let him know that the TV has gone out after two days of having it back. I also let him know that I am not willing to pay more than the $300. I've already paid him to fix the TV ...because for a couple hundred dollars more I could buy a brand new TV. Arthur then tells me don't worry about it. It's all covered under the warranty! He comes back to my house for the second time and once again my son has to help him carry the TV downstairs. He has my TV for a few days and brings it back, asking where my son is to help him carry it upstairs. I told him that my son has a job and he does not work for him so at this point again I'm 59 years old with back issues and I have to go down to his van to help him carry the TV upstairs into my apartment upon putting the TV back up on the wall. I say to Arthur wait a minute ...this is a scratch on my TV, you scratched my TV!!!! Arthur's reply was come stand over here on this side. You can't even see the scratch. So according to him he picked up a TV that was not scratched, returned my TV scratched, but it should not matter because if I stand in a certain position in the room, the scratch is not noticeable. Unbelievable!!! At this point, this is where the arguing starts ...because I can't believe he has the audacity to tell me that it shouldn't matter. It's not a big deal.. if you stand in a certain position, you can't see the scratch. At this point, he says he wants to make it right! and give me a discount and is going to refund half of the $300 that I paid him to fix my TV...at this point I'm pissed off!!! and I just want him out of my house... so I ask him is he going to Zelle me the $150.00... he then says to me that he didn't say that (complete lie) that the additional part that he had to fix when he took the TV back the second time cost $150 and he's not charging me for that. So basically what he's telling me is that I paid him $300 to fix my TV. He brings it back two days later it's not working again. He takes it back brings it back with a scratch on it and I am supposed to just accept that! It gets better!!!! He then tells me that he can take the TV back a third time and fix the scratch on the screen, but it's going to cost me a lot of money. Oh, I forgot to tell you that when I immediately noticed the scratch and pointed it out to him his initial response was I don't know when the TV got scratched ...maybe when your son was helping me ...I stopped him in his tracks. Don't you dare try to put this on my son ...who should have not been helping you in the first place. So after telling me that he can take my TV back for the third time ....the TV he scratched he can fix the scratch, but it's gonna cost me a lot of money. So Arthur proceeds to give me the $150 cash out of his wallet and tells me please don't write a review.. Please beware and don't use this place!!!! Doesn't deserve the one star that I had to put in order to post this. I forgot to add when he first came and was going to take my TV...I asked him who's going to help you. I'm worried about you carrying my TV downstairs by yourself It's a 65 inch TV and I don't want it scratched his reply to me was "we don't scratch TVs" and then he proceeded to tell me that I can help him. It's not heavy. And when he returned my SCRATCHED TV. That I pointed out to him ...because he was not going to tell me about it... he was hoping I missed it and He could get out the front door.

We got a VHS/DVD combo from my husband's grandmother who passed away and after testing it we…read morerealized it's not powering. We wanted to fix it. Who used a VCR nowadays? Well, us, for work related transfers and as cinefile-s (some movies - and they're rare were never released passed the VHS era). I started to look into Electronic Repair stores in the area and there aren't many left. Not surprised, but it's LA, so luckily, there are a few left in business, like FET Electronics. I read the Yelp reviews, it was encouraging and bookmarked it! Fast forward 3 months later, we had another issue with a similar Panasonic model that we own, so we decided to give the place a shot. My husband called over, talked to Mark, the owner and felt reassured after their conversation because he identified the issues just over the phone. We stopped by one day and dropped them and met Mark, who is very nice, knowledgeable, a real professional. Not many like him left behind! Too bad that is a profession that is going away. You don't always feel like throwing out equipment that has an issue and get a new one, not always that easy for your set up. Everyone has their reasons! The place is in Burbank, on Burbank Blvd. (close to the Hollywood Way intersection), we found street parking in front. The store might seem small, but it goes all the way back! It's a geek electronics paradise, lots of audio equipment around. Mark also did work for major musicians like Van Halen among many others - check his photo gallery on the wall! Famed clients! We left the VCR-s, called in about 2 weeks and he fixed them, he was testing them to make sure! After a few days we picked them up, he checked them for us, and he gives you a 3 months warranty which is great. If you're in a rush, this might not work out since Mark is busy, but if you're patient, he will get it fixed in a few weeks. It's not cheap, but he gets high quality parts and it makes sense for the repair to last. If you have an old piece of equipment that needs to be fixed, Mark is the guy. Hurry in before he retires! He is very nice, kind, nice to chat with, reassuring, calm, and very, very knowledgeable, you will trust him on the spot. Closed in the weekend! Great experience, great place, hope it will be around for a while. It helped our situation and the location is great! Nice to get great service at a local small business in the area!

We have an older Samsung plasma TV, and one day when we turned it on, it just kept cycling on and…read moreoff with hardly any time in between except for a quick clicking noise. I noticed this happened to someone else on a review, and it has happened to others who have posted online in forums. Short of opening the TV up, I tried everything I could from the forums and YouTube and with Samsung customer service, but I didn't have any luck fixing the TV myself. On Google Maps, Val's was pretty close to our place, so I called him up and asked about house calls and diagnostic fees. He quoted us a really great price for a diagnostic fee, especially for a home visit, and he was able to fit us in within a few days, so I figured it was worth paying (well under $50!) to find out whether the TV was worth fixing vs. buying a new one, especially without my having to carry a big, heavy plasma TV somewhere. Val arrived on time, was super nice, and was extra kind to my daughter, who was a little interested in watching him work. Long story short, several things could've been wrong with it, so he took apart the TV and took out some of the circuit boards to take back to his shop to test. (Then he put the TV back together, of course, without the boards, before he left, so we wouldn't have a mess.) Within a few days, he was able to tell me those boards were fine, and he would stop by and replace them and get one last board to test. This was the most expensive board, and I think that's why he hadn't taken it, since I wasn't sure if I wanted to pay for a big repair for my old TV (though I like the plasma's picture better than most modern TVs, price would be a factor). Fortunately, after some research, he discovered he could buy just the piece on the board that was likely faulty instead of replacing the whole board. He quoted us a price, and altogether, including the earlier diagnostic fee, the price to fix it was under $200. When the part came in, he fixed our board and brought it back, and the TV was magically fixed. The price was exactly what he described every time... the diagnostic fee for the first visit, then the price for the part, and then the labor. It's been several weeks, and our TV is still working great. We are very happy to have our TV back and to be able to keep our plasma model. Also, we were very lucky to have a conscientious repair person who was open and fair and did what he said he would do. Troubleshooting is both an art and a science. Repairs may not always work out. But Val's prices were super reasonable, and we got spot-on estimates, great service, and a fixed TV from Val's TV Repair. Thanks so much! We're very happy customers!

I needed a DLP chip put into my TV, so because of the raving reviews of Val's, I called…read more I told whomever it was that I was speaking with that I had the part because I was going to do it myself, but when I opened the lightbulb compartment, I thought forget it, I'll have someone else do it. He responded that he wouldn't want to touch it because I opened the TV and he didn't want to be responsible as there may be something else wrong. NONSENSE! That's bunk, there is nothing else wrong with the TV and I only opened the light bulb compartment, it's actually made for the consumer to open and replace the bulb, it's one screw and a slide in compartment. NOTHING could have been touched and/or broken, by opening that. And either way, the bulb compartment has absolutely zero effect upon the DLP chip/mother board, they are separate components. My guess, based upon some friends in Chicago who do TV repair, is that this shop is one which wants to hit you with a huge mark-up on the part and then diagnose something else wrong so they can make more money. Kinda like how tire shops won't install tires you bought somewhere else, they want that mark-up & over-charge. Why else would someone not want to take my money for an easy 1-2-3 job to install a part, they could be in and out in a heartbeat and not have to go through the pain of ordering the part, and be onto the next job. Ridiculous, I won't be recommending anyone to use Val's (dare I call it) "service". Sorry, but whomever it was on the phone that I spoke to, I call BULLS**T on you. EDIT: OK OK, look, maybe I jumped the gun, I was informed that there are people who dig into their TVs and f--k them up, then call TV repairmen then blame the technician for the damage they did. Yeah, I get it, and I feel for TV guys in that scenario. However, I told him what I had opened and he immediately flipped the switch to off. he didn't ask for clarification and I grant him that he doesn't know me from the next joe... plus how many of those scumbags can there possibly be? Do they outnumber those who wouldn't be a scumbag? Regardless, I don't want to do business with someone who is scarred from bad customers, just like I don't want to date a woman who is scarred from other guys & holds me responsible--because those bad people are everywhere, we can't avoid them, we have to do our business as though it's a business. Sometimes we strike out and sometimes we hit home runs. That's business in America.
