We were served water, but our waitress didn't ask if we'd like cocktails, wine, or any featured Valentine's drinks. For a special occasion dinner, that felt like a major oversight. The bigger issue, though, was the food. Several courses were noticeably undercooked and difficult to enjoy. The carrot salad had hard, undercooked carrots and a very bitter sauce that overwhelmed the dish. The grilled Badger Flame beets were also undercooked and had an unpleasant flavor. The beet risotto was firm and lacked the creamy consistency you expect from a properly prepared risotto. The halibut tasted overly fishy and seemed undercooked in the center. For $75 per person on Valentine's Day, we expected a polished, thoughtfully executed experience. Instead, the meal felt poorly prepared and not worth the price. It was an unsatisfying way to spend what should have been a special evening. The ambiance was very nice but the rest of the experience left a lot to be desired.

The cocktails are pretty pricey going as high as about $19. I had seen online that they had a flight of sparkling wines and before I arrived I was considering that until I realized it was $40. But the cocktails are very well mixed. The food menu I'm sure would not appeal to everyone. It's kind of eclectic and they have some small plates and a few entrées, but it's pretty limited. I would recommend the charcuterie board because you can just pick and choose from the charcuterie menu as to how you want your board created. We were all pleased with the charcuterie board. We would most likely return there for cocktails, but I don't think we would do it as a dinner spot, we ended up going elsewhere to eat our dinner. The second time I went with the pasta TAGLIATELLE BOLOGNESE hand cut tagliatelle, classic ragù bolognese, grana padano cheese. For sure a 5 star dish. As we were catching up with a friend we hadn't seen in a while, we sat for several hours outside.  During this time we ordered more than $100 in wine and food and were among a small handful of visitors that evening.  There was conflicting information about what time the place closed; their website and social media had contradicting times.  Regardless, one of the servers/food-runners, a young gentleman, helped us close out our check at which time we asked when they close.  He informed us they'd be closing the kitchen and drink sales within the hour, but continued saying we could stay as long as we'd like since we were sitting outside.  Fast-forward about an hour an older gentleman, who was the bartender and I'm assuming the owner, came up to our group and said in an annoyed voice, "You needed to be out of here an hour ago.  So, you need to get going."  He then stood there and stared at us while we gathered our belongings, made our way to our cars, and drove away. Had it not been for this negative experience I would have gladly returned as everything else about this place is pretty great.  Management should make sure their hours on their website and social media match, and, most importantly, get their staff on the same page about the policy for visitors outside who aren't staying on the property.

I placed a reservation request in the morning, and they called me in the early afternoon to let me know there was availability, which was great. I appreciated the variety of 15 wines from which you could sample to create your tasting. My picks consisted of: -2020 Sauvignon Blanc -2020 Fusion (white) -2020 Cellar 1599 Riesling: Cellar 1599 is a Waltz label, for reference. -2018 Cellar 1599 Red Blend -2017 Baron Red I won't go into detail on my experiences with each wine, but I did have a glass (and then buy a bottle) of the Riesling. The tastings come in little tasting tubes that are basically test tubes. While some might find that unusual, I'm a science person, so I liked it! They also have a cheese board (choose one of four cheeses) with chocolate and crackers, which I added. The tasting room staff were friendly and accessible. It was a beautiful day and lots of families were out on the large lawn. Too bad there isn't a restaurant here, or it would be even more of a win. In any case, Waltz is a winner!

Last night we stopped in because they have spiced apple and maple ciders that we wanted to try. The spiced apple was the best cider I've ever had from Levengoods. It had the perfect amount of spice and was just damn good. The maple was also good. It's more of a maple aftertaste, but still good. We even took a can of spiced apple home. You can get three sizes of cider. They have a flight glass for $2, a half pint for $3.50, and a pint for $6. They also sell large bottles, crowlers, and growlers to go. Every time we go it is always the same bartenders, who are beyond nice. Even when it's pretty full they still take the time to talk with you and get to know you. If we lived closer, we'd be there so much more because it's just that good. I really wish we lived closer. We'll be back soon because that apple spice is just worth it to us!
