Dined here tonight for the first time with a local flavor deal. Place is huge and looked remodeled. Didn't care for the order at bar and seat yourself policy, yet tips are expected. For the size, I would expect waitress service. I ordered a cake cake and hubby the equivalent of an Italian sub. Food was delivered to table without napkins. Had to walk to front of restaurant for tge lone dispenser. Asked for mayo but had to flag someone down for a knife. Food came out quick and immediately I could see my crabcake was burnt. Not only was it burned but was unrecognizable by taste, sight, and smell. I had a few bites before aborting. I literally have no idea what it's made of but it was spicy and left the worst taste in my mouth. I got it without sauce and added mayo myself so wherever the heat was coming from it was coming from the "meat". The pickles had the same hot, metallic taste. Hubby didn't eat his sub because the balsamic it was drowning in was super salt. We threw both meals away. Speaking of throwing your trash away, the lone trash can is located beside the register/ where you order, so you have to basically wait in line. I was excited about coming here, even though you have to pay to park, but will never come back. Feeling nauseas as I have no idea what I even consumed, but know it wasn't crab!

Columbia Kettleworks is an interesting industrial space with a nice variety of beers brewed on site. The spacious bar area faces the brewing tanks and open kitchen area. Service at the bar was very friendly and efficient. Columbia Kettle Works also has a nice food menu, which I did not try (hence a four star review). The bar and dining areas make great use of the building's industrial past--plenty of room here for groups of all sizes. There are about a dozen site-brewed beers on tap with a nice mix of styles ranging from the "usuals" (IPA, lagers) to interesting takes on wheat beers and other styles Great atmosphere and beers--definitely recommend a visit.

Food was pretty solid. Good sandwich, good pizza, good soup. Anyhow, me and my party of 4 walked in and Everything was well and when We ordered the waiter said okay and put a number on our table and walked away, all of a sudden this old hag comes over with just my food which came out first and tells me "you need to move your arm I can't fit the plate" he said this in the most disgusting way possible, I said okay and moved my arm, but then he goes "can I take your number off the table now or are you guys getting more food?" Who raised this guy? Wolves??? Why would a party of 5 get one sandwich are we all gonna take one nibble at a time?? I didn't realize I was dealing with the sandwich Samurai!!!! I wouldn't recommend going back to have to deal with the sandwich samurai.

I went to Hershey's Chocolate World and the Turkey Hill Experience in the same day and had time to kill after leaving Hershey but before my scheduled time at Turkey Hill so I decided to grab a bite and a drink at Columbia Kettle Works. I ordered a flight as well as a turkey panini and cheeseboard. My friend ordered the crabcake sandwich. I loved the flight, but the food missed the mark for me. My panini was nothing special and, despite only ordering half a panini, I didn't even finish it. The cheese board was mediocre. My friend enjoyed the crabcake sandwich, so that would be the only food item I would recommend. Definitely come for the beer, but you can pass on the food. The parking out front is metered, but if you turn down the street in front of or behind the place, there is plenty of free parking around (as long as you're willing to walk a bit).

Great beers, friendly atmosphere, and helpful staff! Looking forward to coming back. Pups are welcome outside.

Good beer- awesome place to hang out with friends. We have been wanting to check this place out for some time, and finally had an opportunity on a Friday afternoon. Parking was easy, on the street or there is a lot out back. Kerri behind the bar was friendly and welcoming. Allowed us time to look things over, gave us some tastes so we could decide which beer to start with. There are several games to play (shuffleboard, darts, and corn hole) so we ordered some lunch and then played games until it arrived. Food isn't fancy, but it is good. This is the kind of place you could go with a small or large group and have a good time. They have outdoor seating as well as a large space upstairs, I'm not sure if they rent it out or just have bands up there, but it's a good space. All in all - so glad to have finally checked it out, and we will be back.

This was my 2nd time coming to Mad Chef!…read more The first time I came here was about 2 years ago (before doing yelp reviews). I was not very impressed. This time around I cannot complain! Their specials are all revolving around the Masters which was unique! We tried the Pimento, Fried Green Tomato, Chicken Sandwich (The Pimento Birdie). This was a delicious sandwich that just screams Georgia! We also tried the Madfather Chicken Sandwich! Pesto, Vodka Sauce, Mozzarella, this thing was outstanding! The fries are always a highlight here! We got the bucket (had a bigger group) and it came with 3 sauces. 1 tiny little knock on the fry bucket....the entire bucket was not filled with fries. The bottom of the fry bucket had about an inch or 2 of crinkled up paper..... All of the food was outstanding. The beer was good. Tons of space and seating. Very easy ordering process. Go up to the counter, tell them your table number, and your food arrives shortly! Prices are high here! Expect a larger number on your check if consuming both food and alcohol!

Maybe what I smelled upon walking inside Mad Chef, were hops; I'm unsure. There was a lingering, unpleasant scent (hay/old peanut shells, an earthy staleness). When my food arrived, the scent dissipated. I purposely took a picture of the fish, on my fried fish sandwich, to illustrate what $17 and some change, looks like - very thin. The fish fry was tasty, slightly undercooked, soft crusted and soft bun, fresh condiments and those "pickles" were stellar. They were the best part of my meal. I would seriously purchase a jar of those pickles. Was wary of how hot honey would mesh with a pepperoni pizza, but surprisingly, the sweet heat and the savoriness of the pepperonis, worked well together. The only miss and it's a pretty big "miss," was the paper thin, tasteless crust, acting only as a vehicle to hold the toppings. Suggest you improve the crust and then, you'll have a stellar pie. Loved the peach bread pudding with brown sugar ice cream, but once again, for the price; the portion was skimpy. Liked the touch of homemade whipped cream, but it was overly whipped (stiff and tasteless), making it actually, impalatable.

I stopped by here yesterday with my family for dinner. We had ridden the Strasburg Railroad earlier…read morein the day and were looking for a place to eat when I fired up Yelp and found the Tavern by Spring House Brewing. It is located on East Main Street in downtown Strasburg. The inside consists of a large main room with an L shaped bar, a number of TVs, and then a second dining room off to the side. Since no one was seated in the second room and we had twin four year olds with us, we chose that space. Unfortunately the TV in that room was broken, so we were not able to watch the Steelers game that was on. Aside from that, the room itself had a cozy and slightly eclectic feel. There was a decorated Christmas tree lit up in the corner near the staircase which gave the space a warm seasonal vibe. The walls were decorated with brewery signs and beer themed banners, and a bright yellow decorative mantel stood out against the darker wall colors. Overall it felt casual and welcoming and worked well for a family dinner. For dinner on this evening I went with the Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak while my wife chose the K Town Mac Bowl. The menu described my wife's dish as three cheese cavatappi pasta with smoked pork slaw, Korean BBQ drizzle, sesame seeds, and scallions. My sandwich was described as smoked chicken, American cheese, buffalo sauce, gorgonzola, onion frizzles, ranch drizzle, and a hoagie roll. I thought my sandwich ended up being good, especially since it was chock full of chicken. The hoagie roll was toasted and buttered nicely and added a good crunch, which the onion frizzles helped reinforce. The gorgonzola added a nice pungent pop of flavor. While I did get some buffalo flavor, I definitely could have used more. Because of that, the sandwich was a little on the drier side despite having cheese, buffalo sauce, and ranch drizzle. My fries were seasoned and had a nice texture, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I decided to go with a flight here. At Spring House Brewing, a flight consists of four beers and I chose the Cucumber Salamander, Backroads Shadows, Daily Planet, and Love and Rockets. The Love and Rockets ended up getting mixed up and I was instead served Grease the Poles. I started with the Cucumber Salamander, which is a sour. It was a bit tart right from the start and that carried through to the finish, with a little extra pucker at the end. Up next was Backroads Shadows, a lager with a crisp, clean start before the malts came through on the finish. This felt like a really good easy drinking beer. Third was Daily Planet, an IPA that had citrus up front followed by a solid hop presence that carried through the finish. Last was Grease the Poles, a pale lager that started off very clean before finishing with some lighter hop notes. Out of the bunch, the Cucumber Salamander was definitely my favorite. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Our food and drinks were good, and I would be interested in trying more of their beers.
