A perfect time at a micro brewery with great selection of beers, fantastic food, the best service in a long time, and entertainment as well! If you're looking for a night out to go to a micro brewery in the Lancaster area look no further. This jam in a strip mall totally exceeded all of my expectations! Starting with the beers. They have a very large selection of beers I was able to find IPAs, others in my group were able to find whatever they were looking for The next very important thing is to tell you how great the food was, and I mean, top-notch! Often food in these types of places is just good. Here it was excellent! The pizzas, the burgers, honestly, you could literally come here just for the food, even if you don't drink beer. Now get ready for this, I had the best service I can remember in a long long!! we were waiting for a table and our waiter came up for us and said would you like a drink now? Wow! Of course the answer was yes and everyone in my party got a beautiful beer while we were waiting to be seated! Now we're having a great time instead of standing there impatiently waiting for a table, which did take about a half hour, but that's because we got there late. That's another thing, you may want to get here a little early. Part of this place was rented out for a private party, yet there was still enough seating for everyone! Keep that in mind if you have a group that wants to have their own section. Now, as if everything I have told you wasn't good enough, we were there on a weekend and they had a fantastic band playing music! I mean, seriously what else could you hope for? We randomly decided to try this place on a Sunday night. There's a parking lot with plenty of spaces. When we got there, there weren't many people so we were sat immediately. The place looks a lot bigger than it appears from the outside. Our server was super nice and attentive. We ordered different rounds of food. The wings were good and had great flavor. The pretzel was a hit and enjoyed the two different dips. I loved my veggie burger and my husband loved the featured special sandwich. Portions are a good size for the price. Decent beer selection. Instead of flights you can purchase 5oz size but a 16oz is $6.50 and the 5oz is $3.00. So 15oz at that size would be $9....seems a little weird. A nice little spot in a strip center. Stopped in for dinner tonight with my daughter. She got the Mac & Cheese and she loved it. I got the hot chicken sandwich, ordered it with tots instead of fries but it came out with the fries which I was sad about but the fries were seasoned really good. The chicken sandwich was super large and breaded perfect. My only complaint is about a half of an onion was on the sandwich which is way too much. A pit-stop visit, while on a road trip from MD- essentially pre-gamming the nearby Renfest (chosen over other breweries nearby because of their expansive tap list offering ample IPAs). Located within a shopping center strip mall, w.easy parking, when I walked in I had an initial "are we in the right place" concern, as the space gave more of a local diner feel than brewery/bar-amplified when a welcoming staff called me "honey" & "sweetheart" while seating us; learned they were a restaurant brewery combo-with a full kitchen expansive menu. When selecting beers, our waitress was super nice about offering samples before we made final selections- though helping to narrow down between all the delicious choices- we still opted for numerous varieties selecting two full IPA pours each & some tasters (creating a shared flight) of the seasonal brews (porter, pumpkin, brown ales). So, I'm sitting in Big Dog right now after having lunch. I tried their chili and a salad. The salad, a caesarr was fresh and tasty with just the right amount of dressing. The beef chili was very good with a pretty good spicy kick. Covered with cheddar cheese and chopped inion and a side of sour cream, it had great flavor. It definitely had me sweating. The chili also came with homemade corn bread which really complimented the chili. Overall, I definitely enjoyed this and will return when I'm in the area again. This was a fun brewery I checked out on a short visit to Lancaster. There was live music, plenty of seating, and the staff were really kind. Food was decent, not the best pizza or burger that I had but definitely good for a quick eat if you need a place to stop. My favorite part of the meal of the pretzel! I had the quesadilla BBQ brisket with jalapeños and it was great. Everything here to eat is a little messy, but are all Big Dogs a little messy? The beer I had was a Cloud Kicker IPA and it was nice and cold, in a glass that fit my lips well, and tasted really good. They do growlers and have cans to go as well. Service was on the spot and I enjoyed their interaction. They have 3 TVs and you can eat at the bar too if you are only 1 or 2 people. I suggest you just try it, you'll like it. read more

Overall, I'd say this place is average. Both the beers and the food was good, but nothing knocked my socks off. The flatbread my Big Dog burger was served on was not soggy or floppy, it was the proper amount of firm and fresh. It was deli to my juicy and flavorful. Their unique fries are my favorite thing! Driving down Manheim Pike at dinnertime we decided last minute to get take out. We were both craving a well-made burger and decided to give Big Dog Brewery a shot. They're located in the old Isaac's building which I used to frequent often. I was anxious to see what they did with the place. I looked up their menu online and called it in from their parking lot and waited. In addition to us both getting burgers (his well done, mine medium) we got an order of their pickle chips. When I went inside to pick it up it wasn't quite ready so I waited and observed the atmosphere. Not much was done to the interior, and the place felt pretty bland and void of any branding or personality. Since they're new maybe a theme or some personality will come at a later date. The most noticeable difference was the wooden bar that was built where the old Isaac's deli counters used to be. High top tables were butted up against them to encourage social distancing. I did know in advance that they charge a whopping 4% markup for paying with a card. I'm assuming given the challenges that restaurants have faced due to covid that this will become the norm. I asked for a to go menu and they did need to scramble to find one. Aside from the menu items (pizza, burgers, salads, appetizers) there was a blackboard with specials and soup. I'd love to try their creamy crab chowder and spinach strawberry salad someday, as they were two of several specials. At home we opened the take out and was surprised to find flatbread instead of traditional buns. In looking at the paper menu I do see that was mentioned and an oversight on my part. While the flatbread was really good on it's own we both felt it didn't pair well with the burger and would have preferred a bun. Both burgers were made correctly, well-seasoned and delicious. Each came with an order of hand cut fries, more like small wedges, that were equally as good. Neither of us felt the need to add additional salt which is rare! The portion size of the pickle chips was a little skimpy but they and the dipping sauce was good. The take out packaging was made of high quality biodegradable materials. There was a few threads of random shredded lettuce in with the pickle chips which I'm assuming was some sort of garnish but wasn't needed and didn't look appealing. The fries and burgers were also thrown about in the container and could have been packaged more nicely. Other than the above we were both pleased with our meals and will order take out again. read more

Excellent service and a variety of beer to please all types of pallettes. The Gaslighter is a wonderful example of a standard imperial stout. It's full bodied and oaky without the bitter IBU. Just outstanding from beginning to end. Walked in and was immediately greeted. Gentleman seated us and checked in on us. Our server was pleasant and continued to refill our drinks as they became empty. I was not very hungry but I wanted to try the brisket so I opted for the brisket on the tots with extra jalapenos. Everything was done perfectly with the brisket being tasty but overwhelming either bbq sauce, the right amount of seasonings and cheese also. Got tenders and they were cooked to perfection. Tried a couple of beers. All tasted great and served at a nice temp suitable for our U.S. palates. Only one wish is that they carry less IPAs and more of the other types like hefeweizen and brown ales and lagers, etc. but I understand most customers prefer IPA. The ambiance is simple with no frills. Maybe a band when Covid ends? I actually drove by weeks ago and bought some shirts because of the name. Visited on August 3rd, 2022. Beer and food were excellent. Had the burger and it was fresh and prepared exactly as I ordered. The fries are unusual, kind of like folded home fries but very good. Great service as well. If I had one suggestion it would be to ditch about one half of those high top tables and put in normal height tables. It's hard to seat a group and frankly older folks don't want to sit at those. When we were there all the guests were seated in the left wing of the restaurant where there were a few normal height tables, but that kind of takes you out of the open restaurant area and off in a wing. Ditch 50% if those high tops and get some comfortable seating in the main area and this place is perfect. Went here again last night. A good amount of crowd for a Saturday night. I got a full rack of ribs and crab Mac n cheese. The ribs were huge!!! Lots of meat and the bones slipped out of the meat. It was so good. The sauce was pretty good on the ribs too. I did not get too much of a smoked flavor, but it was still amazing. Uhh, the crab Mac n cheese was okay. I should have asked for fries.
