"I don't remember what day it was I didn't notice what time it was" (Spiral Starecase) No, I don't remember what day it was or where it was, but I know it was at a Yelp Elite function. One of my friends asked me (quite earnestly) if I had ever been to the Community Room Cafe for breakfast because "it's really great". Well, we went there today and I sincerely want to thank that unknown Yelper because the Community Room Café is excellent. We found it in the Constitution Square retail area bounded by Cedar St., E. Main St., Market Sq and Lowrey Place in the center of Newington, CT. Parking is plentiful in the Square's large parking lot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Their space is amazing -big, cheerful, inviting, comfortable, colorful (plenty of orange and black). There are plenty of various seating options in the form of couches, upholstered chairs, table/chair groupings, and counter-style seats by the windows.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We saw a few medium sized groups gabbing away at the upholstered seat area and a few industrious folks clattering away on their laptops.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We each went with an Avocado Toast (@ $9) with mashed avocado, diced egg, diced tomato, bacon crumbles, cilantro, and Everything bagel seasoning blanketing a big slice of toasted rye. Seriously, one of the best breakfasts we had this year. I went with a small cold brew coffee and a shot of sugar-free caramel ($4.25) while my wife went with a small light roast coffee ($3). We loved everything about the Community Room Café- the food, the vibe, the décor, the service.... Everything. I finally had the chance to visit on a Saturday during the late morning after an appointment in the area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were only a few people there, and there was plenty of seating. I chose a comfy chair with a table by the window[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered an egg, cheese and sausage, breakfast sandwich, and to drink a raspberry cheesecake latte. My coffee was ready right away, and my sandwich was brought to me at my seat. Both orders were very good. The egg sandwich was huge. The egg is actually a large square. It was flavorful and satisfying. There are a variety of many items that include coffees, pastries, and breakfast items. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience is fairly cozy. There are couches, comfy chairs, and tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After eating, I stayed another hour to finish a book I was reading. I would definitely visit again. read more

Ct greatest hits cafe with good seating Once again, expanding out my breakfast searches. Found this place randomly so headed down to give them a try. Walking in, immediately greeted by the owner. The place is very much a family owned and run location. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is smaller but lots of comfy couches and modern decorations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu was a mix of breakfast hits. They know they are a smaller shop, do they highlight some of the best of the best in the state. Giv coffee, Goldberg bagels, Neil's donuts, and other local shops, announced with pride and on display. I appreciate places that recognize they might not be strong on certain items do they source from those who can. I got an affogato, sausages and cheese bagel, and a few Neil's donuts. The food came out quick, took some artsy pics then dug in. The affogato had lots of pistachios, coffee was strong and ice cream was nice and sweet. Could have done without the whipped cream, but the flavors were there. The sausage egg and cheese bagel, the bagel was very good, but didn't match well with the sandwich. A very good bagel has a chewy exterior and soft interior. This bagel has that, but it wasn't a good match for the soft egg slab and sausage patty. This bagel is a very good lunch sandwich or a schmere bagel, but not the best for a sandwich. The Neil's donuts were fresh and tasty, no complaints there. Pricing was higher than expected, but the quality was there to help justify it. I may skip the donuts next time I go and swap out the bagel for a biscuit, but it's a very good breakfast spot for the area read more

My wife and I had a delightful Friday off recently and made the trip on over to this wonderful spot for some biscuit sandwiches and treats to take home. The biscuit sandwiches were delicious. My only complaints would be that the egg is a little too thick and it could use a titch of pepper and/or tabasco in it. That said, the biscuit, meat (I got sausage) and cheese are a great combination. The biscuit is crumbly in the best way too. We also nabbed two cheddar, chive, garlic biscuits to go as well as two Neil's Boston Creme doughnuts, which were killer. I can't personally vouch for the coffee but we met a lovely guy there who is obsessed with great coffee and he said that Community Room coffee is awesome. Check them out. The Community Room Cafe (CRC) just opened adjacent to the parking area behind Newington Center businesses like Rooster Company, Carvel, etc. It shares a building with a Century 21 and Allstate Insurance. It has some nice elements like colorful and comfy seating, but it also has the ceiling of what looks like an older small office building. Changing the ceiling at some point would help establish a more friendly vibe. CRC serves coffee, coffee beverages, breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday. They have donuts from beloved Neil's and bagels from OG legit bagel provider Goldberg's. I'm familiar with both Neil's and Goldberg's and the food from there looked on point. CRC sells bags of Giv coffee, which is one of my favorite CT roasters. I assume this means that CRC's coffee is made with Giv, but I don't know that for sure. I do not have the impression that CRC is looking to compete with area coffee places that sell high end specialty coffee beverages. For instance, a customer asked if they could make a chai beverage, and the customer was told they could only give her a pre-made chai. So if you're looking for a specialty drink with a name such as "Lavender Haze Lattez", you may need to find that elsewhere at least for now. I ordered a black iced coffee. CRC is still developing muscle memory for its ordering system. It took the cashier about 2 minutes to process my black iced coffee order. I assume they will figure out that sort of thing and I'm not factoring it into my review. I like Giv, but this one didn't stand out fpr me. It seemed like the coffee to water ratio may have been a bit off towards the water side. It was pretty good though. CRC seems to emphasize a certain purpose and bolstering a sense of community. There is a neon sign that says "gathering" and an artsy sign that said "Drinking Coffee and Praising Jesus." I've seen references to the fact that you can reserve or rent the room for meetings. I'm interested to see how CRC evolves. For now, I would rate it as 4 Stars. read more

Even though Newington isn't "my" town, I'm here pretty often, as some of my closest friends live here. Their brand new Community Room Cafe aims to bring the community together while slowly creating more of a downtown feel. What a tastefully designed space! Given that the Christmas season is fast approaching, they have some cute holiday decor already out. They have a pretty large menu of some tasty breakfast and lunch options. I was intrigued by the Brussels Sprouts Salad. On this occasion I wasn't hungry, so that will be for my next time. They have Neil's Donuts and Giv Coffee as their partners. They also offer Avery's Soda. I got a mocha, a cappuccino, Avery's Fruit Punch soda and a very large Neil's Boston Creme donut. Would you believe it, but these four items were just $11.35!? Maybe they charged me in error, but whatever it is, I'll take it. My mocha tasted as it should. Rich, chocolatey, frothy and delicious. The Boston Creme donut was perfect for sharing.
