Sausage egg and cheese biscuit
Kara S.

Do you like baked goods? Do you like sandwiches, both breakfast and lunch? Do you like good coffee, comfortable seating and friendly staff? You've come to the right place. I am a breakfast sandwich person, big time. Always savory too. My wife and I had a delightful Friday off recently and made the trip on over to this wonderful spot for some biscuit sandwiches and treats to take home. The biscuit sandwiches were delicious. My only complaints would be that the egg is a little too thick and it could use a titch of pepper and/or tabasco in it. That said, the biscuit, meat (I got sausage) and cheese are a great combination. The biscuit is crumbly in the best way too. We also nabbed two cheddar, chive, garlic biscuits to go as well as two Neil's Boston Creme doughnuts, which were killer. I can't personally vouch for the coffee but we met a lovely guy there who is obsessed with great coffee and he said that Community Room coffee is awesome. Check them out. I think you'll love it.

The Community Room Cafe (CRC) just opened adjacent to the parking area behind Newington Center businesses like Rooster Company, Carvel, etc. It shares a building with a Century 21 and Allstate Insurance. It has some nice elements like colorful and comfy seating, but it also has the ceiling of what looks like an older small office building. Changing the ceiling at some point would help establish a more friendly vibe. CRC serves coffee, coffee beverages, breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday. They have donuts from beloved Neil's and bagels from OG legit bagel provider Goldberg's. I'm familiar with both Neil's and Goldberg's and the food from there looked on point. CRC sells bags of Giv coffee, which is one of my favorite CT roasters. I assume this means that CRC's coffee is made with Giv, but I don't know that for sure. I do not have the impression that CRC is looking to compete with area coffee places that sell high end specialty coffee beverages. For instance, a customer asked if they could make a chai beverage, and the customer was told they could only give her a pre-made chai. So if you're looking for a specialty drink with a name such as "Lavender Haze Lattez", you may need to find that elsewhere at least for now. I ordered a black iced coffee. CRC is still developing muscle memory for its ordering system. It took the cashier about 2 minutes to process my black iced coffee order. I assume they will figure out that sort of thing and I'm not factoring it into my review. I like Giv, but this one didn't stand out fpr me. It seemed like the coffee to water ratio may have been a bit off towards the water side. It was pretty good though. CRC seems to emphasize a certain purpose and bolstering a sense of community. There is a neon sign that says "gathering" and an artsy sign that said "Drinking Coffee and Praising Jesus." I've seen references to the fact that you can reserve or rent the room for meetings. I'm interested to see how CRC evolves. For now, I would rate it as 4 Stars.

Neil's donut, cold brew with cold foam, yogurt bowl, egg sandwich

Ok to start- what genuinely nice people!!! So many great options and great coffee drinks. We got the yogurt bowl, banana cold brew, and yogurt bowl and everything was delicious. So many menu items I need to come back for! Also a very good selection of options for gluten free AND celiac safe (they know cross contamination procedure etc). Great seating options inside and out. Cozy couches and table games if you want to hang out for a while. Great way to start the day

Even though Newington isn't "my" town, I'm here pretty often, as some of my closest friends live here. Their brand new Community Room Cafe aims to bring the community together while slowly creating more of a downtown feel. What a tastefully designed space! Given that the Christmas season is fast approaching, they have some cute holiday decor already out. They have a pretty large menu of some tasty breakfast and lunch options. I was intrigued by the Brussels Sprouts Salad. On this occasion I wasn't hungry, so that will be for my next time. They have Neil's Donuts and Giv Coffee as their partners. They also offer Avery's Soda. I got a mocha, a cappuccino, Avery's Fruit Punch soda and a very large Neil's Boston Creme donut. Would you believe it, but these four items were just $11.35!? Maybe they charged me in error, but whatever it is, I'll take it. My mocha tasted as it should. Rich, chocolatey, frothy and delicious. The Boston Creme donut was perfect for sharing. I'm not kidding, even the half was a generous portion! I also got a Cranberry Lemonade. It was sweet, cool and refreshing! The Community Room Cafe is a wonderful addition to the area. You could come here to socialize with friends or to get some work done.

Wonderful & inviting cafe! A prettily designed space featuring a great set up with tables and chairs. Best part is the comfy chairs. This is where I sat and enjoyed my delicious latte. They feature Neil's Donuts which are amazing. Prices are good too. You should check them out!

Latte and snickerdoodles

Stopped into the Community Room to study and get a drink. Such a welcoming atmosphere and the employees were very friendly. They have multiple gluten free options to choose from. I had a vanilla latte and some of their gf snickerdoodles; both of which were great! Super comfy seating. They have free wifi as well. Will definitely be back when I'm in the Newington area again would highly recommend this cute little cafe to anyone!

Match Latte special and a chocolate glazed Neil's donut.

The staff is friendly and welcoming, and makes you feel right at home. They never rush you-my friends and I spent over an hour here after we finished our coffees, and we were never rushed or asked to leave. In fact, we practically shut the coffeehouse down - right after we walked out, they started locking up and cleaning. I was thrilled to see that the Newington location was finally opened. When I'm back, this will definitely be one of my first stops. I would love it if they opened a location in downtown St. Petersburg. I'll become one of their regulars.

The barista then came into the lobby, closed the door, and smiled directly at me, which made me think she was returning to prepare my drinks. Instead, she picked up both tickets, looked at them, and threw them away without starting my order. She then began cleaning the machines and eventually went to the back, leaving me waiting for about 20 minutes with no update. When she returned, I asked for a refund since I needed to leave. Rather than processing it, she repeatedly insisted on making the drink, even after I clearly said I preferred a refund. She told me she would process my refund. Two days later the charge went through. The interaction felt confusing and poorly handled. I completed their survey, submitted a comment via their website, and sent them a Yelp message. None which were responded to.

They have plenty of sweet and savory treats to go along with your coffee cup - cannoli's, macarons, baklava, cake pops, savories, tortas, croissants, bombolinis, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, scones, etc. I stopped in to do some prep for a morning Board of Directors meeting and ordered a large drip coffee and a cheese and spinach pastry with a criss-cross latticework top. Breakfast was around $10. The coffee was excellent, and far too much for me to drink at one sitting. It was served in a huge ceramic mug, so I asked them to pour it into a "to go" cup when I left. The pastry was delicious, a great balance of spinach, cheese, flaky pastry, and crunchy top. I loved it. I grabbed a small table in the back and went through my notes while sipping my coffee and people watching. I got a kick out of the young lady to my left who was simultaneously working on her laptop and two phones while having her breakfast. She sure beat me in the multi-tasking department. Service was excellent, the friendly gent and lady who helped me were wonderful and super friendly. I sure enjoyed this private non-chain coffee stop.

My favorite is the vanilla caramel mocha. The coffee is a medium bodied and very flavorful. Depending on what you like you need very little creamer. I used to be a light coffee drinker now I've switched to oat milk (I know weird) but it's less calories and no where near as heavy as regular coffee mate. Works perfectly! The bags come in either ground or whole bean. We've gotten both and they are 12oz bags (not resealable so get something to put it in). Their Keurig pods are also flavorful and recommended. My only reason for 4 and not 5 stars is the vanilla mocha Keurig pod seem to clog my machine, maybe the grounds are too large. Check their website or emails they also send coupons all the time! Our order was a Chai Latte and a Cold Brew - each was $5. The pours were very large, and I swear that my cold brew was the very best I've ever had. I love coffee, drinking it hot or cold, and what I had here is in my all-time Top Five Percent. It was that good. I had a sip of my wife's Chai Latte and thought it was excellent as well. What really impressed me were the flavors of both drinks- not overpowering, but strong enough to appreciate them. I was expecting a little more flavor, especially from the turkey. I didn't try a pizza slice, though I was told it's good. The pastries, however, were a highlight. The Dubai tart was flavorful but on the drier side for my taste (definitely needed some milk). The pumpkin croissant was very light and airy--absolutely loved that one. Drink-wise, the tiramisu latte with oat milk was tasty and a solid 7.5/10. The strawberry lemonade with boba was just okay for me--nothing fancy, but I'd be open to trying a different drink next time. Overall, the ambiance was really cute.
