The ambiance at this restaurant is perfectly in my wheelhouse. I loved all the decor, the large wine room, the bar, the pineapples. The only part that wasn't beautiful was the restroom area. The service was exceptional. Our waiter was very attentive and some of the other waiters who dropped off items were great as well. The food was worthy of the 5 stars to me. We started with the oysters Rockefeller and fried green tomatoes Caprese. The oysters were delicious but we were left talking about the Caprese, it was a hit with everyone at our table. For my dinner, I was torn between a number of items but after a discussion with our waiter Andrew, he urged me towards the short rib hot plate, and I am so happy he did. While I don't know what I missed, the sweet cornbread that was the base of this dish was so absolutely delicious, I cannot imagine a universe in which I did not try that. In terms of the food I have mixed reviews and might need to try again. The Oysters were delicious and probably my favorite part of the experience. I got the Brisket Sandwich, it was very greasy and missing flavor/salt in the brisket. We had the Ponzu Oysters with mandarin and pickled ginger, and they were a total flavor explosion. If you want something richer, the Smoked Oysters Rockefeller packed with creamed collards and crispy pork belly--are legendary. For the main, the Short Rib Ravioli was pure comfort hand-made pasta that just melts in your mouth. I have come back here every time I find myself in Savannah, because of their happy hour oysters. It is a big restaurant, very lively, and attractive decor. They also seem to have a lot of staff running around. However, I have not had great service while sitting at the bar. It took a LONG time to get any attention, and it was lukewarm at best. I ordered a dozen oysters and a glass of wine. And then waited again. There was only one person shucking oysters and he was working hard, but did not look like he had much experience with the task. I was sitting down the bar near him, and he was struggling. There were tons of people about, and the restaurant was busy, but there was a lot of hanging out and chatting around the bar area and no one helping this poor shucker. When the oysters did come out, there were bits of shell in them. I do not blame him. He was trying. But he needs more training and someone else there to assist. This was probably my last time, as there are plenty of other places to grab my favorite mollusk with much better service. read more

Our dinner at Common was probably one of the best dinner experiences I've ever had. I made a reservation for myself and family (5 people total) a few weeks in advance and also paired it with their "wine tour" experience. We're not from the area so I didn't really know what to expect. When we arrived to the restaurant, early as requested for our wine tour, we were greeted by the wonderful sommelier. His 3-piece suit and twisted mustache gave the initial impression that the whole experience was going to be amazing! He showed us over to the main restaurant wine cellar and showed us their wine portfolio. It was wonderful but since some of our party didn't know anything about wine, it would have been helpful for him to ask what everyone's experience with wine was before he started. We also got to see their "secret" wine cellar on their 2nd floor of their very lovely event area as well. When we came back to the main restaurant area and were seated we have the most amazing and friendly waiter. We started with the fresh baked sourdough and freshly made butter! My husband and I ordered some oysters to try and share as well - I loved their house made mignonette! We all ordered some sort of pasta dish, since all their pasta is made in-house! I got the Pasta Fattoria and my husband ordered the Short Rib Ravioli. Both dishes were amazing but the short rib ravioli was definitely my favorite! Once we ordered, the sommelier paired two wines within our requested price range. Both were exquisite! They have a wonderful 32+ page wine list which is a bit overwhelming but also very neat! I added the mimosa poached shrimp for $9 and that was not worth the 4 pieces that didn't taste like anything. The hollandaise had beet in it, giving an interesting pink color. Since we were in town for the annual St. Paddy's Festival, we stopped there on Broughton Street with the parade in full swing. We had a very satisfying brunch since that was what was on the menu. The menu had so many options that looked amazing to us, and the waitress helped us narrow down what to get. We split the Fried Brussels appetizer to start, and it was incredible. Whenever I see short rib on a menu, I usually have to order it, so I went with the Short Rib Ravioli, and it was extremely rich and filling (not always the case with ravioli). My husband enjoyed the Southern White Gumbo. If we were hungrier, we would have done the tasting menu, but we knew we wouldn't be able to finish it. I'd highly recommend this place!
