So we get a call that surprise visitors are in town and want to come over- ack, the house is a wreck, just had a death, no one is feeling very festive and REALLY don't want to cook. What to do? I Google pizza and Commodores comes with stellar reviews throughout the usual review sites. Table of 6 seated right away (afternoon on Sat). Our waitress was super accommodating (Natali) and very warm & welcoming. We get our drinks right away and order the pizza. The place is fairly large and would be great for a group. There are 3 mounted tvs all playing the same game in the dining area and a decent size full bar. The dining area was clean and tastefully decorated. We ordered XL Commodore and Greek pizza. I tried the Commodore with sweet sauce- not my thing, but the ones who ordered it loved, it was full of meat and cheese. The Greek (isn't really Greek but french fries aren't really French either) was delicious and only made better when I ordered anchovies added. Both pizzas were ordered thin crust. The crust is very good but don't think it's going to be crispy. It gets soggy from the cheese and meat grease, but I'm not complaining. One of our guests had the kid's chicken strips and french fries- it was huge and looked great- if I hadn't ate so much pizza I would have definitely checked out that chicken. The ONLY con for this place for me is they don't have a white pizza, I like selections. We also had a pitcher of beer. The total bill without tip was $64. We took home leftovers- So all in all this is our new go-to take out place. read more

We used to toss up between here and Tommy's when we're in Hammond, but after our past two visits to Tommy's, it's clear that Commodores has been the most consistent. I still need them to work on more accurate times given to pick up the pizza, but it hasn't been too far off. I'd rather wait a few minutes and have a hot pizza than to be told at time and the pizza has been ready for 30+ minutes like Tommy's does. We've only ordered the Greek with chicken instead of gyro and the Commodore. Both are obviously pretty good because they're the only two we ever order. read more

The place was noisy, the owner was BS'ing at the bar with some dude in pajama pants and crocs. 2 guys had kids at the table next to us who were in Pj's. We waited 30 minutes for salad which never came. We threw $5 on the table for 2 Coke's which had taken 15 minutes. The waitress was busy goofing with a table that had paid already. Walked in to order after seeing reviews on Yelp since we had no idea of any pizza place nearby (out of towners). I wish I would've gotten the servers name at the counter who greeted us as soon as we walked in, he was very nice and helpful and offered to include two sauces with our breadsticks since we didn't know which one to choose. We placed a to-go order and waited 15 minutes (if even that) for our godfather pizza and breadsticks. The pizza had a very hefty amount of cheese; we didn't really expect that but if you aren't big on a smothered pizza you might want to ask for less cheese. This place was suggested to me from a coworker and it was the best advice I've received in a while. I was so impressed I put them on Yelp because I couldn't leave a review. I love Tommy's on Thomas and will not knock them but this place is just as good if not better. They have 2 for 1 happy hour everyday from 4-6pm, perfect for when I get off work. They even have the buffalo chicken cheese sticks like Tommy's. I think what I liked better is that the owners themselves worked there and they were genuinely personable. To top it off, they were cheaper than Tommy's too! This place is a must if you love pizza like I do! read more

If you like pizza you have to try. This is one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. It is right there with my favorite pizzeria in Miami. This pizza tastes exactly like the original Tommy's pizza. Great food, great scenery and a great atmosphere. Sadly, the service was really bad- it took us forever to get a server, refills were hard to come by in the first 30 minutes, and we waited for a long time (45 min- hour) due to the cooks 'screwing around', as I remember hearing. Here's why this place has such a high rating: the owner came around and asked how everyone was doing. My compatriot and I hadn't been served, and we told him of our plight. He said he was sorry about that and that he'd see what was going on. Less than 10 minutes later, we got our food! He came back by and told us our meals were on the house. Real friendly guy, definitely someone you'd want to sit down and have a drink with. Usually this would be a 2- star ordeal, but the owner was just such a great guy that you couldn't help but be happy when he talked to you. We read the yelp reviews so decided to eat here. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a mistake. We ordered pizzas and were given the choice of either the traditional or sweet (pasta) sauce. Both my sons chose traditional. My husband and I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. We weren't asked what type of sauce, so I assumed it was traditional. The sauce was sweet, with a cinnamon aftertaste. Growing up in a Sicilian family, there is no place for cinnamon in pasta sauce! Further, I don't know what kind of meatball that was but even after being told it was made of ground beef, hubby and I couldn't help but wonder if it was something found on the side of the road. it definitely did not look like, taste like, or have the texture of ground beef. If you eat here, stick with pizza with traditional sauce. read more

First time eating here and I will for sure be back. Best pizza I've ever ate. I was here with a friend and we got the buffalo cheese sticks and they legit were the size of a medium pizza. The buffalo sauce that you dip the cheese sticks into was AMAZINGLY good. The cheese sticks themselves were great too. It was just cheese and chicken. The chicken had great flavor as well. We got The Godfather pizza and the commodore pizza and they both were outstanding. I definitely recommend getting the sweet sauce. We didn't try the other but the sweet was perfect. One of the owners was working the bar and came around and introduced himself to us and also brought us our pizza once it was cooked. This was the worst pizza I have ever attempted to eat. I couldn't even eat the pizza itself. The crust was the only edible part of the pizza. The sauce tasted like the pizza sauce that comes in lunchables for children. The mushrooms were obviously from a can. I have no idea why this place is still in business. First time at Commodore's, 7/29/2017. My husband and I ordered a large house salad with shrimp. Usually when you order a salad the thing is huge because of all the lettuce. This salad was very skimpy on lettuce and shrimp. I think there were 3 shrimp in the salad but each shrimp was cut into 3 pieces and scattered on top of the salad. The pizza, medium with traditional sauce, pepperoni, black olives and canadian bacon, was very bland. It didn't even taste like we were eating pizza. The sauce had less flavor than Prego pizza sauce in a jar, there was so little pepperoni and canadian bacon on it you couldn't even taste the meat. Won't be going back. read more

So let me start with this. The food at Commodore's is good. I have been there several times and the pizza is pretty good. My one star is for the service. Now I am well aware that one server can not justify a bad review for the whole place but that wasn't my issue. We arrived at 6:30 on a Sat night. The place was not full but they were setting up for a large party coming in. A waitress asked how many we had and I said 6. 4 kids and two adults. She said it would be about 25min. A party of 7 came in a few min past us. A booth became available, it was cleaned, and the waitress proceeded to sit the party of seven. She then came up to us and explained that they were willing to squeeze in without asking if we would be willing to squeeze(we had 3 ten year olds, a 6 year old, and me and my wife). We would have and could with no problem. Not long after that, a couple got up and left because no one ever did wait on them and they were disgusted. By now the large party was there and was getting all the attention. It is now 7:15 and a table of six got up. As, (who I guess was the manger) asked why that table was not cleaned for us, the manger was told by the waitress that she was holding for a group coming at 7:45. We then walked out. Service Sucked. WARNING GROSS: I drive by this place all the time and want to try it.... So last night my friend and I go. We walk in and sit at the bar. The server "Katie" comes over and is very friendly. We both order an Abita Amber. We decided to order the signature pizza the Commodore's special I think it was, he gets the sweet sauce I go with traditional. Our food was delivered in a timely fashion, and I have to say the pizza was pretty good. When we get our bill I am very surprised to se that our beers were $4 each! Yes 2 beers for $8 dollars, my friend only ordered one..lucky him. So this is the part where I would give a good review other than the price of the beer.. right? WORNG! The next morning I SH*T my brains out for 45 minutes and then 4 more times that morning. After the 2nd dump my friend txt me asking if I am having the worst poops of my life. I travel for work to Hammond and was in the mood for better than average pizza, this place seemed worth trying from the reviews. Pizza was ready when I arrived and I will definitely come here again. The crust and sauce are what stood out the most. The crust is thin yet soft and slightly chewy. It almost reminded me of a breadstick in texture. I got the sweet sauce and it was tasty and sweet. Toppings were quality, and just the right amount of cheese allows you to taste everything (Pizza isn't buried in cheese). All in all I was very happy that I tried them and will be back. read more
