I really liked how they incorporated the beams in the middle to create a natural standing area without disrupting the flow. Even though the line was pretty long when we arrived, it moved quickly and efficiently, which I appreciated. When we got to ordering the owner thanked us for being patient and even took a little time to explain how his wife designed the space. We ordered the Spanish latte and the matcha. The Spanish latte was excellent! Perfectly balanced, smooth, and not overly sweet. The matcha, however, leaned a little too bitter for my taste and could have used a touch more creaminess or sweetness to round it out. I visited on a Thursday at noontime and it did not disappoint. The vibe here is really something and the matcha tea was smooth and fresh - delicious with ice on a warm day. We sat on the windowsill and enjoyed the fresh air and air conditioning altogether. And the views of tattoos, motorcycles, and a lot of cool. There are a lot of cliches here and they all work. Anytime I order a flat white and it's the correct temp (not too hot) and the person doesn't say "what size?" (That's not a thing... flat white is 8oz max) then I'm happy. They don't offer anything special and no vanilla syrup. Lumen or Modu are better. Alfred, La Monarca, and Go Get em Tiger are about just as good and only a short walk away. New neighborhood coffee shop alert!! Coffee shop is in its soft opening. It was kind of busy as I expected it to be since it just opened this week. The space is very beautiful and has plenty of tables. Had some good music playing in the background which was enjoyable as we stood in line to get our drinks. There was a good variety of espresso and Matcha drinks. I got the Matcha coconut, which was delicious and refreshing. My friends and I had to take our drinks to go because all the tables were filled. Unless you're looking for one of those adventurously flavored sweet milky drinks (in which case, you can go across the street to Monarca) this is the place to go the best, espresso drink anywhere in town. On top of that, although this place looks like you would get the stereotypical unimpressed hipster service, everyone I've dealt with there has been entirely pleasant and helpful. Comet Over Delphi is a gorgeous spot in Highland Park that's minimal and industrial without being cold and impersonal. Instead, it's spacious and airy with plenty of natural lighting. Service is warm, friendly, and informative and the venue boasts one of the nicest and most spacious bathrooms I've ever seen in a coffee shop. I ordered their reserve matcha latte with oat milk. I absolutely loved the presentation of the drink. It came on a silver tray complete with a delicious butter cookie as a bonus treat. The matcha is fairly traditional in taste. Super bold and full of umami. I could tell it was high-quality on first sip because it was incredibly smooth with very little astringency and no bitter aftertaste. If you're someone who loves a sweet matcha, this is not that. However, after adding simple syrup to my drink, I enjoyed it. I will say it was pricier than any other matcha I've ever had. At $12 and $14 after tax/tip, it far out prices incredible matchas I've had elsewhere in LA and in the world. That said, they did have options matcha lattes that were made without their private selection matcha that were around $8. I'd be curious to try those, because I don't think the reserve one was worth the price tag. I wish I could've tried one of their light bites, but they weren't offering them the day I came in. With seventeen new coffee spots popping up every nine minutes all over the Eastside, and almost every single person who lives in Irvine heading up for an Instagrammable Matcha Latte to shoot on a Sony A7 camera on a daily basis, making for crowds and lines, I find myself seeking that one place that maybe isn't quite so trendy but that still has a vibe. I mean, I waited in line in the rain for 45 minutes in K-town the other day for a matcha with a friend. This is not a good use of time. But I digress: this review is about Comet Over Delphi, and if you're running short on time, let me save you some: this place is perfect, unique, and a true addition to the cultural and social landscape of the area. I mean, even the name. Is that a Sun Ra LP title? A rare celestial occurrence? Code for the optimal coffee buzz? Whatever it is, they get it right. It's located a little off the beaten path. The wood-lined front window is also a seat. There are very beautiful textures of marble, brick, cement, and wood intersecting in intriguing ways. A stunning Aremde espresso machine sits on the counter, a metallic counter-point to all of the texture, something that could pass for an interplanetary portal. High ceilings, leather sofas, plenty of spaced out places to seat, and kind employees are also present. Maybe this is another hint about the name. Space is the Place. And the menu -- we caught matcha lattes and pastries from the OG Café Tropical. A guava cream cheese from said establishment was one of the first things I connected with after moving to 90026 a long-ass time ago, so it was nice to have another. There are some very creative drinks on the menu, too. I loved how the drinks came out with two small cookies on a metal platter that echo'd the elliptical shape of the espresso machines. All very intentional and calming in a Le Cime kind of way. I think it's also noteworthy that my friend and I were able to have an impassioned extended conversation without any disruption from the employees -- in fact, one came by just to grab our dishes and give the table a wipe-down 'so we could continue enjoying each other's company' -- and that's a vibe. And Comet is full of vibes but in a very relaxing way. And in a city that is in challenge and flux, sometimes vibes matter most. read more

I noticed this place a few weeks ago when I was on my way to yoga, today my partner and I decided to go check it out but upon arrival we noticed a couple of people lounging on the window with their BARE FEET on the ledge. Really confused about the hype of this spot. My wife and I try a different matcha spot every weekend so we wanted to try out this new location. We waited in line for a long time, which we expected so that part was fine. The quality of the matcha is where we weren't very impressed. Is it terrible? No. Is it good? Not really. For serving matcha from some of the better Japanese farms, we were surprised the taste didn't meet our expectations. I didn't get a chance to watch them make it so maybe they were busy and they couldn't meet the standard. Either way, I don't think we'll return. Note: They do not have any sort of artificial sweetener, whether it be syrup or Splenda, Sweet n Low, etc. I heard a girl ask for it and they said they don't provide any.
